Porsche Excellence
The history of Porsche like no other. An absolute MUST HAVE for anyone who wants to everything about the Porsche cars. Wish the 964 chapter was more detailed (since I have one) but that is a minor issue.

The best automobile history ever written
"The best automobile history ever written" -- that's a big claim and is easily misunderstood. But I think it would be exceedingly difficult to find a more thorough, better researched, more comprehensive, and better written automobile history, regardless of topic or marque. One may argue that there are more "important" cars (or not); perhaps the story of Daimler and Maybach's pioneering efforts, or Henry Ford's, are more "important" in a larger historical context than the activities of a relatively small maker of specialist sports and racing cars, but that's not what I claim here. I claim that this is the best WRITTEN, most thorough autombile history ever. Porsche, as an automobile and an enterprise, is a very special phenomenon, and Ludvigsen's book presents both company and car to an audience that may otherwise never appreciate it. If you don't like Porsches, then that doesn't matter. If you do, you need this book. If you're not sure, then this book may be the beginning of a lifelong passion for all things Porsche.

If I'd realized Mr. Ludvigsen had a past history of writing for Automotive Quarterly, I would never have wasted this much money buying this set.Just like Automotive Quarterly (which never had a bad thing to say about any automobile) Mr. Ludvigsen glosses over the problems with the 356 and early 911 road cars, the internal power struggles within the company and board, and so on.Read more

This book could save your life
I've been riding for 3 months daily when I bought this book.I've had an absence to riding a bike for 26 years.I rode for 5 years when I had a low side accident that scared me out of riding for the next 26 years.Back then no Motorcycle safety classes existed, everyone you asked for advise gave you confusing or bad advise.What Keith Code does in this book goes far beyond what you learn in the MSF classes and gives you a great foundation to understanding how your body reacts when in panic mode and what best ways to correct this so you can safely steer, stop, or control yourself to survive.He uses mostly layman terms so most people can understand and there is bold type on all important points.There is even word definition like a dictionary at the end of each chapter so if you need to understand a meaning you can immediately flip to the end of the chapter you're reading and get an understanding.Some of the information is highly technical and can really make you sound like an expert if you are explaining to someone else why you should ride a certain way.What helped me with my riding was in the beginning of the book where he covers riding in head and cross winds.After reading this section I improved my riding by 100% and I was no longer sweating and holding my breath whenever I would get hit by a wind gust.The next section that improved my riding was pivot steering. He explains the way to safely and controlably do quick right, left, right flick turns at speed.The section on wide screen vision and the exercises there also helped me tremendously to have less eye fatigue and enjoy the ride by seeing more.I would recommend this book to anyone who plans to ride a motorcycle on a regular basis and anyone who wants a better understanding on ways to improve their riding skills.

Awesome book, well written and easy to understand. As A new rider I was making a lot of mistakes (SR's) this book will help take me to the next level of riding. Highly recomend it to any one looking to improve their riding skills.

Beautiful book , short on technical details
This is a beautifully produced book, with many high-quality photographs and drawings. A perfect gift for the F1 enthusiast, especially as an introduction. It devotes a chapter to every aspect of an F1 race car, and is lavishly illustrated and well written. The author, having designed F1 cars himself. obviously knows his topic.
A book for every Formula One enthusiast
This book is very well put together with a right blend of images & text. Covers every aspect involved in designing & building a formula one car with a focus on the Ferrari F1-2000.
Coffee table material for the engineer

Another good one from Carroll Smith
This is a great introduction to vehicle dynamics and a basic guide to the overall tuning of the vehicle. Carroll Smith gives just the right amount of theory to go with his practical advice toward the end of the book so you can understand why it works (or doesn't).
For Aspiring Race Engineers
The late Carroll Smith's book "Tune to Win" will appeal mostly to engineering minded car racing enthusiasts. Smith, in his patented blunt style, tells you everything you need to know about suspension geometry (both static and dynamic), handling issues related to alignment, springs, dampers, and anti-roll bars. While somewhat dated (1978), this book is still a gold mine of useful and accurate information. He goes on to discuss steering, under- and oversteer, and methods to set-up a race car based on what is actually happening with the car.
Fantastic and important for any motorsport professional

Worth The Wait
I patiently waited out many Amazon "order delays" figuring the book had a high order rate after the movie was released.Finally arrived about a week ago. The book is very well written and gives a great amount of detail on this slightly "odd" but determined fellow.I have not seen the movie yet as it came and went in our town in about one week.The one character flaw that shows up for Mr. Munro is that in the pursuit of his goal he seemed to forget he had a family.Worth the read.Could use some more pictures......

very frustrating
Disappointed with this & all Chilton car books. If you are a complete beginner , the explanations & pictures are not clear enough to make you feel comfortable.

This book has saved me $$$ many times.Although it is not in depth as a Factory service manual.It is money well spent!

Chilton's Honda Civic and Del Sol 1996-00 Repair Manual
Adequate for simple repairs and a general understanding of the cars covered, Chilton manuals are a cheap alternative to buying the "real" shop manual. Unfortunately, for whatever the reason, they are fraught with errors and omissions. Wiring diagrams may not be correct, and often simple step by step instructions are unclear. Indispensable for automotive suppliers
This is a "must-have" book for anyone who sells to the automotive industry. It presents the requirements of ISO/TS16949 in clear and easy-to-understand language, provides tips to facilitate implementation and offers pointers after each clause on what auditors generally look for during an assessment. This is a great resource.

Great info/instruction, difficult to locate subject
We haven't completely dived into any major repairs, but have referenced this book for information about fixing the horn, fixing electrical wiring that's been noodled around with and tune-up specs, etc...So far it has provided enough detail, that is easily understood.It does seem to assume some prior vehicle mechanical knowledge or experience.My only complaint has been the lack of an index....sometimes it's difficult to locate your topic.The book is divided into 8-9 sections, each section has a table of contents....but when you're looking for something small, you have to guess which category it might fall into -- then read the table of contents to see which subheading it might be under...and if you don't see it in the tables of contents, you have to scan the sections.

Volkswagen offical service manual
very detailed lots of photos showing how to install and work on your particular car.Would recommend it to anyone with a volkswagen.

Italian in a harry
I have found this proudect very usefull in helping my learn another language.
Not for students of Italian
This is not an audio course for a beginner student, or any student for that matter.Had I not had Italian lessons in my past, I would have not been able to use these lessons to speak the language.The initial sounds are clipped so completely that the true word is not audible. I absolutely do NOT recommend this program to anyone interested in learning this beautiful language.

Very good, but...
I got the set recently and enjoy it very much. I bought it, after listening to the German Learn in your car version, which I found very useful. I like the (mostly) clear pronounciation, the vocabulary and the double repetition which is helpful, if you did not get it right the first time.

It's interesting to compare the aquatic exploits of Teddy Kennedy to those of his brother John, who, in time of war and under heavy enemy fire, after having his PT Boat shot out from under him, swam back to rescue a wounded fellow crewman and swam him to safety, holding him with his teeth.

Not a Good Book For Canadian Built Cars
This book is very good if you have a US built Chevelle. Has no Info on Canadian Built Chevelles. You can find more info on the web than what's in this book.

Great for Everything!
We have had this book ever since we restored a 1970 ElCamino.We are currently in the middle of a 1971 Monte Carlo, and although some of the information is different, much of it is accurate for the MC as well.Ourfriends borrow this book so often we have to sign it out to them. Currently it is invaluable in researching a 1975 Nova.As with the MC,most of the information is the same (paint codes, etc.).I highlyrecommend this book to anyone researching their car!

Extremely well written book !
This is a very well written book. I bought the book after reading the entire build diary on the website and so did not have the disappointment of it not covering the chassis build. It puts a lot of perspective on the trials and tribulations of a kit car builder and how to think "outside the box" to solve the glitches that come up.
A great companion to Champion's
Nobody should buy any single book and expect it to answer every question they have.People planning to build a Locost should expect that they are going to be swimming on their own once in a while.Yes, this book doesn't show you how to build a chassis from scratch.It doesn't show you plans for mounting a Miata dif.It doesn't tell you a lot of things that you'll want to know.Champion's book is missing a lot of useful detail as well.No book is going to answer all your questions, which is why there are so many different books available for sale!Keith's book answers a lot of questions for me and gives me plenty of ideas that I'll use on my own build.I wish other builders would publish similar books - I'd buy them in a heartbeat!

Bemtley Saab 900 16 Valve Official Service Manual 1985 through 1993
It is a great manual and is what I've come to expect from all Bentley publications.

Strictly for the pro
As the description clearly indicates, this is the service manual for professionals. Period. It's as dry and detailed as as you would expect prose written by swedish auto engineers to be. There is nothing to read, no anecdotes nor unofficial tips or fixes. Use it if you are a black belt in mechanics or keep it in the trunk for the day a mechanic who doesn't know your car has to work on it. Pretty disappointing
I bought this book to help with some work I wanted to do on my Girlfriend's FWD Subaru Legacy. I highly recommend finding another book.
Don't Buy a Chilton's Subaru Legacy Manual
This book has errors of omission and commission.It will contradict itself from one section to the next, and doesn't portray information in a coherent format.I have learned to regard the guidance given in the book with a certain amount of skepticism.Only recommend this book if you absolutely cannot find anything else.

Worse than worthless
This manual is garbage.I've tried to use it for three separate jobs onmy 96 Legacy and every time it has proven worthless.The latest exampleconcerns the camshaft position sensor.The manual lists trouble codes thatwould confirm the diagnosis, but lacks sufficient info to get the car todisplay the codes. The book gives only a vague arrow in the generaldirection of the sensor location.It details the steps to remove thetiming belt in order to change the sensor on the Legacy.As I look at it,and as my mechanic assures me, the sensor can be removed and replaced on a96 Legacy without disassembling anything else.Worse than worthless, thisbook would have me spending hours on a 2 minute job!Read more

A wealth of hard to find information.
Having chatted with Cliff previously via email, I was happily surprised that he had finally put his wisdom to paper.While it's clear when reading this book that he is a Pontiac fan, he does a good job on the Chevy, Buick, and Oldsmobile Quadrajets also.

Don't waist your money
I bought this and returned it by the time I got to the 3td CD It was nothing but talk.The first CD was just the author yapping about himself and saying stuff like if you don't get it right away don't worry and I took half a dozen other languages etc. The 2nd CD didn't work and the third one was still talking about nothing that had to do with actually learning Japanese. Translation or otherwise. The box says "The Complete Language Course" but the CDs say something like "The Secret to Learning a Foreign Language" I was so ticked off I didn't even bother to listen to the rest and realized it was a total waist of my money. If I need an "encouraging" book or book on the if you do this or that I would have bought that type of book or CD.

The hiragana are helpful
One thing that makes this a great supplement to the excellent all-audio Pimsleur is that the Learn in Your Car series comes with a booklet that has sentences written out in the latin alphabet and hiragana.It's wonderful to practice reading hiragana with this set when the brute memorization efforts seem intimitating at the beginning.

Great supplement to Japanese study
I used this course, Pimsleur, Japanese for Busy People, and Remembering the Kanji as the foundation of my Japanese studies. While the other products I mentioned are more useful for the initial learning stage, particularly Pimsleur and Japanese for Busy People, this product is a terrific way to review material and is very cost effective.
