Excellent and Engaging Resource
This is one of a few books on teaching I read over and over again. I have found this so incredibly useful in bridging the language acquisition gap for my English learners. The reflections on the case studies are just as useful for their insights and information on what to expect when you use the strategy. Knowing that my colleagues have little free time, I recommend this book as a resource for teaching that has become invaluable. It's good for the busy teacher as well because each chapter stands alone.

Excellent Read for Any Educator
The American educational system is changing through the introduction of immigrant children.These children need teachers and other adults in their lives to stop and hear their voices.Igoa allows these voices to speak loudly to her audience.
FOR TEACHERS/EDUCATORS
This is an excellent book.Please, be aware, that Cristina Igoa doesn't state that she is using the Language Experience Approach (LEA)for early emergent readers, but she is.

Lots of information presented in an easily read format
This book is perhaps one of the best ESL books I've come across recenlty.It is easy to read and understand.It is practical and it gives lots of great suggestions without sounding pompous or preachy.The book would make a suitable textbook for those studying to be an ESL teacher, or a good reference for those who are already an ESL teacher.The book is divided into clear chapters, giving the reader some practical hints on how to welcome a newcomer into the class, and how to create an inclusive classroom.The book then goes into how English works, often citing and detailing the famous experts of language acquisition like Krashen, Cummins, Mohan and Swain just to name a few.Coelho also gives the reader ideas on how to integrate languge and content instruction, and finally, she goes into assessment options.The book is full of pictures and cartoons, with sidebar hints and cautions, as well as an annotated reference section at the end of each chapter.A very practical and useful book. ... Spanish Grammar Goldmine
This is an absolutely fantastic grammar.First of all, the way the table of contents is set up makes it easy to find the sections that explain the grammar.The explanations themselves are easy to understand (not grammar-jargon), and the book provides examples to illustrate how each part of the grammar functions in context.I consider this to be one of the best Spanish-materials investments I have made.This book would be a tremendous help to any serious Spanish student and an invaluable resource to any instructor.

A wise choice if your serious about the Spanish language
This useful book is the best I could find on the Spanish language written in English.It has 685 pages and was written by a member of the Royal Spanish Academy and Director of the Carlos V Department at the Universityof Gent, Belgium and Director of the Institute of Hispanic Studies at theUniversity of Antwerp. If you are put off by the price, consider that youwould probably spend the same amount on other books that are not ascomprehensive as this book is. This work shows a wide range of usage.Covers the usage of the verbs ser/estar which are difficult for the Englishlearners of Spanish and the verb 'to become', the correct use of por andpara, and has a good section on suffixes. I highly reccomend this book.

Comprehensive is right
Though this thick grammar is a translation of a Dutch work, it is the best thing I could find on Spanish.The length may put off those who are only casually interested in the language, but others will appreciate gettingsuch minor questions as how to say numbers ( 'mil quinientos' and never'quince cientos' ) answered.The book is linguistically sound, andsentences from novels and newspapers are used as evidence to support thegrammatical rules.Conversely, the book does not waste space.Thetreatment of irregular verbs uses easily learned patterns rather than abrute listing of forms. ...
