My sister saved over $6,000.00 'cause of this book!
My sister Jeanie, fresh out of university was looking for a reasonable deal that would keep her transported safely and affordably for at least a few years. Her know-it-all friends had plenty of advice but when you sawwhat they were driving and what they put up with (breakdowns and breakups)you'd wonder about their counsel.Anyway I came across Bruce's bookfollowing a search for advice. As it happens there isn't much written thatdoesn't slam certain brands and take nasty cracks at the industry. "So you wanna buy a car" is a real easy book to read... nohi-tech, macho car bunk. I picked it up for Jeanie on a Thursday; she hadit all together and even made up her own check list from the model in thebook... If you dont know much about cars and dont know what to look for then this book will help you.This book is all about what to look for when you inspect a vehicle for sale whether its in a 2nd hand car dealer,private auctions or at a private sale.There is so much advice here.Plenty of tips will help you buy a car.It gives tips on what to look for when inspecting any car,things to do on a test drive and so on.Written in simple to understand format with appropriate photos throughout make this book superb.Read this book before you buy your next car.Comprehensive advice.Good value.
Excellent required reading for used car shopping.
Well written, quick read, lots of important illustrations.This book is for used car buyers looking to not get burned and put the right amount of effort into inspecting potential purchases.Great for both the mechanically inclined or inept.Specifics and illustrated examples and photos of problems to look for.Covers quick filtering by phone, quick walk arounds, thurough test drives, careful inspections of potentially good vehicles, and a final inspection by a mechanic.If everyone read this book used car buying would lose its stigma and shadey used car sellers would go out of business.

Fantastic book full of useful information
This book tells you the kinds of things to look for that you wouldn't know unless you knew a bit about cars. Not only does it tell you more commonly known stuff like where to look for rust, but then gets into more detailedhandy information like how to tell if there is body filler underneathpaint, what you can learn by looking at the exhaust pipe(i.e. black andgummy could be burning oil or covered with white stuff shows that the fuelmixture is too lean) and has photographs of all of these. This is wellworth the money if you are looking at a car because you can find out a lotjust by inspecting the car. You could also save hundreds or thousands(orjust avoid getting ripped off) by being able to point out problems that maynot be considered in the price asked. You will also appear(and be) moreknowledgeable so the seller may not try to take you as a sucker. Thislevels the playing field a bit so you have a better chance of finding a carthat is appropriate for you. ... Read more

Worth The Money
If you're just beginning the wonderful and endless journey into the universe of Ferrari, this book is a good place to start. Lots of useful background information, stats on models from inception to 1995 and helpful guidance on investment value. The black-and-white photos give this book a dated look, but the information is accurate and it's worth the price -- most Ferrari guides cost much more than this one.Good luck!

Necessary starting point
As a buyer who was unsure of the model i wanted, but knew i wanted a prancing horse in the garage, this book became well used.The information on each model, especially those that get less other text on the shelves at bookstores, was excellent.The worst part of this book was that it made me want to buy several models - a classic v12 and a newer v8.In summary, when i finally purchased my first ferrari, the pages of this book were as well worn as a shop manual at a sears automotive repair facility.

Could be better
This is a good book for buying a Ferrari, it provides details on each model and provides useful insights. However, Ferraris should be seen in color and this book has only black & white pictures. Ferraris deserveto be seen in their brilliant colors and this book's pictures do not do themodels justice. I have often said that there should be a law prohibitingpublishers from printing black & white pictures of Ferraris and thisbook is no exception. Most Ferrari enthusiasts interested in buying aFerrari would gladly pay more for this book to get color pics. ... Read more

Disappointing lack of information
I was very disappointed with this book. It was severely lacking in information and seemed inaccurate as far as values. For example, I checked for the current market value of my turbodiesel Dodge Ram, but it wasn't even in there! It only had the base Rams, and the closest to my truck I could find was valued at half of what Blue Book values my truck as. The additional options is often not listed, and that is what gives the accurate values of a vehicle. Very limited, innaccurate information. You do better just going to kbb.com. ... Read more
