This book will save you money!
In a sense I'm also writing this review for several friends of mine who have bought the book and found it extremely helpful as a prepration for shopping for a car. The information, tactics and strategies proved to be right on for both me and my friends. We all saved money with this book. As to a previous reviewer who said the "fax" ploy doesn't work. Well it sure did for me.I suspect he's a car salesman.

This book saved me [a lot]
First of all, this book was written by someone who sold cars for a living and you get the "inside" scoop.So inside, that when I went to buy my first new car ever, as the saleman's banter was taken chapter and verse from the pages.I used every resource suggested and every response suggested by the author and, as a result, paid [substantially] less than the lowest price I was offered by groups like AutoFinders.Not a bad return for [such a small investment!]

Don't use this book. It only helps the dealers not you.
If you'll use the advice in this book, like faxing the dealers in your area for a bid on a car. You will get the worst treatment from them that you can imagine. They will be waiting to get even with you. And they will. Read more

What an eye-opener!
Given I hold on to my cars for an average of 8 years, and I am not by nature comfortable with the entire bartering process, I really dread buying a new car...doing the purchase takes all the joy out of it for me.
It helped some.
I had no idea how to buy a used car and this book helped with a tidbit here and there.It didn't help all that much, but I got a few ideas.

Entertaining book, effective technique
This book explains how to avoid paying more than you have to for a new car by getting new car dealers to compete with each other on price. The premise is that unlike used cars, each of which is unique in its own way, new cars are a commodity, that is, they are all the same (given a color and options). It does not matter who you buy that new car from, so why not buy from the dealer that offers the best price.

The only BMW 6 series book worrth buying.
This book is the most up to date one on the market.The only problem is that it tends to focus on alot of the european models.The BMW Buyers Guide from Fred Larimer is more useful on US models.

Amateurish drivel
Having worked on a number of 6-Series cars, I can confidently say that this book is average at best, toilet paper at worst. Thorough
Given the fact that this is the only book available (to my knowledge) on the great BMW E24 6 series, it is a must for fans. Apart from that, there is heaps of info on all the different models and on BMW history. Jeremy Walton has certainly his share of research. There are just a few things that I would like to have read about/improved, but these things are just minor things. Some topics are not covered in chronological order, which makes it a bit confusing. The good things about this book is that is covers cars manufactured for both the American market as well as the European market (although I get the impression that mr. Walton focusses more on the English market), so it is a good read both sides of the atlantic. Bearing that in mind, most numbers are given in American and European units. Good stuff! ... Read more

This book was very informative
This book by Peter Sessler was very well writen.It has enough information to make anyone a respected mustang informant.This was my first mustang book and I still go back to it for information from time totime.I bought the book when I was 15, and now I own a 94 GT convertable. Great info, good for anyone
Anyone who needs to know the facts. This is for definitions, not fixing anything. It is a great reference to look up stuff as you are reading a manual, hell, even an issue of Road and Track. The answers are concise and easy reading. I always look for definitions of the Miller Cycle, because it is a simple process yet the first time I read it in Bosch's Automotive Handbook, it was confusing. It is well laid out in the Dictionary, with figures that could explain it on its own. I just found out what the difference is between an A pillar, B pillar, and a C pillar is, well lets say it clarified things :) That does bring up one interesting thing. In "A pillar" I would assume you would find the definition at the start of A. Actually you would find it at "Ap". For some reason the A in A pillar is not considered a word. Anyway kudos to John Dinkel it is an excellent book.

A simple easy to understand explination of a complex subject. Not required reading for engineers but if a machanic has youbamboozled this book could help. ... Read more

A pale imitation
This book looks superficially like the Standard Catalog books dealing with American cars, but the data is incomplete and the editing is grossly inferior.Just a few of the problems I noticed flipping through a few sections: Lots of information on lots of cars

Illustrated Corvette Buyer's Guide
Interesting book if you are looking for details - only goes to 1997 Vettes. Was looking for current pricing information (book has sticker prices); somewhat like blue book values on various models based upon mileage, etc.Was trying to avoid my own cost analysis process as I am looking for a vette and trying not to spend months trying to figure out going market prices.

A Must Have
This book was by far the most valuable one I purchased while I was car hunting.I would reccommend it to anyone who has either no experience or overwhelming exeperience with buying cars, and to read it before they buytheir next one.A little dated, but a short read with nothing but thefacts you need.

What an eye opener!!!
My sister bought this book and saved several hundred dollars at a dealership in Canada and then suggested I buy this book. I bought a Saturn, no haggling, BUT I did learn A LOT about buying a car.There were a few things that I was able to save money on even though it was a Saturn. I have suggested this book to a clerk at Geico and even the person I am dealing with by e-mail in the Customer service dept. at SATURN. The book answersa lot of common sense questions and lets you know about things I NEVER would have thought to ask about.If you are going to buy a car...buy this book first and study it!!!

Value depends on what you are looking for...
If you are looking for a "Toyota Way" level of insight in to Honda, it's definitely not here.If you want a manual for how to implement Honda's BP tools, it's not here.The BP material seems to be mostly just treated as magic that floats in and produces fantastic gains.

USELESS
These 85 odd pages would be better condensed to 8 pages. The author repeats every two pages that car people are scoundrels and spends half a page doing so; assuming that such is the truth there is no use in repeating this so often and for such length except to fill in pages.
I should have bought a burger!
I was going to get some lunch. Instead, I ordered this book and ate left-overs before going back to work. The book came in the mail and the excitement of wondering what insight it may afford was lost when it read like a bathroom time killer. The information is out of date and not very accurate at all.
