Great job
As journalist and car lover I think that Quentin Willson realize a great book, because he worked with a lot of information that is presented in a didactic style that invite you to read it. Great Car Book
Great Car has 1 or 2 two-page spreads on each car. There are good photos of front, side, back, and something else of interest, such as engine, depending on the car. Minor irritation: pictures split across the fold. Book is sewn, so you can open it fairly flat without having the pages pop out, but it's still a little annoying. Read more

Great Book! A must have for anyone considering leasing.
I highly recommend this book is for anyone considering leasing. Eskeldson does a great job explaining all the basics of leasing including terminology, pros and cons, calculating payments and negotiating the bestpossible deal. Included are many easy-to-use worksheets and tables. Alsocovered in depth is all of the sleazy tricks and scams commonly used by cardealers to rip-offunsuspecting consumers. Many of these scams I havepersonally seen (I analyze leases for consumers and attorneys for aliving). Eskeldson is clearly not afraid to tell it like it is. In the bookhe outlines a fascinating web of investigation and class-action lawsuitsagainst car dealerships and the number 2 auto maker - many of which areongoing today.

Too much bashing!Not enough unbiased information!

A Comprehensive and Historically Accurate Resource
Mitchell'saccount of AMC cars and history is the best I've seen.It has the most current rendition and explanation of the AMC story of all the books on the subject. One of the books highlights is the amount of truelywonderful pictures of very rare cars that are not just cutouts of the AMCdealer brochures.These cars exist today and that means alot to anyenthusiast.It is surely a must have for any AMC buff and is reccomendedreading for any car enthusiast. ... Although this book is catered to the UK market, there is NO books catered to the US market that delve this far into the car itself. Don't buy this book
This is an Audi book written for English consumers--with English address for information and repair, and (I think) models that were popular in England.Not much applies to cars common in the U.S., like Audi 4000's or 5000's (are they the same as the 80's, 90's, A6's (I don't know and the book doesn't say.)) Better than nothing, I guess...
As an Ur-Q fan and owner, I had high hopes for this book but was disappointed by several factors: 1) The amount of filler (does a book targeted at such a narrow audience really need a section on how a radiatoris rebuilt or a wheel is refinished? I think not); 2) The lack of originalinsight into the design or production of these cars (frankly, this bookcould have been written ten years ago) and 3) The total lack ofnitty-gritty details about the car that requires years of firsthandexperience with them to uncover ... although the author is also an owner,one almost suspects he bought the car simply to establish his bona fidesand not due to any longstanding attraction to or fascination withthem.Read more

Awesome book - Very helpful
With every retailer out there trying to rip you off, it's nice to have the inside secrets on how the car dealers do it.
some misguided advice
This book doesn't really provide any advice you can't find on the internet. The author's tactics also resemble those of car salesmen themselves.For example, he recommends a certain company that sells extended warranties and goes into great detail over its product.I did a quick search of this company on the internet and found it had gone into bankruptcy and did not have the most reputable business practices.Yes, perhaps the author just made an error in judgment.Are you sure, however, that you want to follow someone's advice when it comes to spending this much money?I would think your money better spent just scanning over a few books at a local bookstore or picking a better book online.

Great refrence and a fun read for Camaro faithful
This buyers guide is a great resource for Camaro information and history.Whenever I see a title by Michael Antonick, I just buy it.Often these kind of books are poorly done with poor photography and incorrect facts.For someone like me, I can forgive an occasional mistake but if I readabout something I know and find a series of mistakes, the authorscredibility goes down the drain.Read more

A general overview of VWs but not a detailed buyers guide
I bought this book for getting detailed info about vintage VWs before I tried to buy one. I disappointed after reading it because I had learned all knowledge available in this book from the World Wide Web before.This bookis only for getting general information about historical background of VWcars.

Nice history book but, not a buyer's guide.
This book is a good overview of VW models and should provide an adequate starting point for those just bitten by the VW bug. Most VW fanatics, however, should know everything here. As for a buying guide, this book isnot helpful as it doesn't go into detail on features available by modelyear and doesn't include a summary of potential problems to look out forwhen in the market for a used VW.

A high level overview of the marque
The author uses a "star rating" system on the possible collector value of the varied VW models since the Beetle's creation. While useful at high level, the book glosses over some of the details between model years,such as why the 1967 Beetle is sought after by folks who plan on driving'em rather than collecting dust in the garage. Some more detail on whatmakes some models more desired by collectors and hobbyists would bewelcome.For the beginning VW nut, this book ought to be in thecollection, but the hard core VW fan, spend your money elsewhere as youknow most of what is in here.Good, clear phots for the most part and theediting of the text decent. ... A useful overview
This book is a very useful overview of the more popular Jaguars.I think Michael Cook does an excellent job, within the scope of the book.Good coverage of the E-type, XK's, and sedans.A great book for readers who are new to the marque.If you are already a Jaguar expert, you won't learn much here. Also, if you already have selected one particular model to buy (say, and XK 120 OTS) then there are more specialized books for you.But if you're looking for an overall introduction to the marque, and some basic advice on model selection and what to look for -- this book hits the mark, especialy considering the price.Great value!

Why is it called a buyers guide?
I bought this book because I am in the market for a Jag and I am new to the make. I wanted some specifications, history, options, problem areas to look for ect. I was extremely disappointed. This book is very lacking in content. It only list a very very few specification for a few models and gives hardly any detail on options that were available through the years. The same could be said for any reviews on the cars. The XJ12 info was especialy lacking, and this happens to be a model of particular intrest to me. There was no mention of problem areas for this model, such as where they rust, what common mechanical problems they have ect. The last two books I have bought in this series were disappointments. From now on I will review the book more before I decide to throw money away. ... Read more

Disappointed
I was disappointed in this report.In looking for a used car, my primary interests are safety, reliability, initial cost, maintenance cost, insurance cost and probability of theft.While this report provided good information on reliability and initial cost, the profiles contained no information about crash tests, insurance costs, or probability of theft.The report indicated that its own crash tests were conducted, but they were not presented.Safety information included only a section listing important safety items (such as air bags, anti-lock brakes) and a report of same in each car profile.The report gave two web sites that could be visited for crash test information and I visited those web sites.The result is that I've spent hours on the web and am compiling my own information from the web, this report and other sources in order to get all of the information I need.If you just want information about reliability and price, this is your book.If you want comprehensive information, maybe there is a better book somewhere. . . I haven't found it.

A great Guide
As usual, Consumer Reports does an excellant job of providing information about used cars. Unlike the Consumer Guide on used cars, Consumer Reports accepts no funding from car manufacturers. Consumer Reports gives anon-biased, excellant source of information. We have already bought one caraccording to their suggestions and the car has been the best car we haveever had!
