5-0 out of 5 stars Standard Catalog of Jeep
Beautiful illustrations and a great amount of information. Very enjoyable as long term Jeep owner and enthusiast.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but dissapointing.
In addition to the first reviewers comments; this book also omitted the optional Perkins diesel used in the 1960s in CJ-5s and CJ-6s.This engine was used domestically. The F-head is listed as standard in the 5/6, the V6 is listed as optional in the right years but no Perkins is listed.I can almost understand not including export engines, but it is sold as a standard catalog of the Jeeps that were built in Toledo as I understand it.Omitting options that are fairly well known among enthusiasts domestically and overseas keeps me from giving this book a better rating.
3-0 out of 5 stars Standard Catalog of Jeep
The book was good, but it did not cover all the jeeps :0(, I expected this to cover all the jeeps ever built, but it completely missed the 2.4 litre and 2.7 litre diesel CJ5's, CJ7's, & CJ8's that were built in Ohio for export.

3-0 out of 5 stars My first GT40 Book
This was the first book that I acquired on GT40s. It was not expensive, and doesn't have much in the way of technical information, but that's not what it's about. It pulls together almost all of the cars in one book with reasonable photos and anecdotal comments of an enthusiast rather than those of an expert, although John Allen could be regarded as an expert as well.
3-0 out of 5 stars Some Interesting Tidbits
There's little new technical information for the GT40 enthusiast, but the pictures are,for the most part, good. It is interesting to see that most of the original cars still survive, and many are still raced.2-0 out of 5 stars Colorful
Lots of pics of the outside of the car.The book was lacking when it came to detailed data and interiorpics. Also missing were aan abundant photos of the area under the front and rear bonnets, as well as extreme close ups. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars in search for hard to find parts
when looking for books on a particular make of car (crosley a kind of rare car)I came across "rays wrecking yard roster", this book wasbeing sold on an online auction, so I looked for it on Amazon.com, where Ieasly found it (for a 3rd of the auction price). this book is broken downstate by state, and car make by car make, has phone#s, addresess, opentimes, even some e-mail and 1-800#s. it is very acurate and even containsmaps for each state. after looking though the related sections I found morethen 30 yards that contaned at least 1 or more crosley, 1 of the yardsbeing only 25 miles away from my own town, this book is great for anyonewho is looking for parts for that restoration project or daily driver and Ihighly recomend it. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A pleasant picture-book
I originally thought this book would serve as a helpful travel guide for adventures on unknown So Cal roads...but it's really more of a nice coffee-table photo book with a bit of history wrapped around the shots.Great photos, though.

5-0 out of 5 stars Discover Where Only the Native Californians Know to Go
I grew up on Southern California. My family was always more attracted to the twisting two lane roads that wound through the hillsides, mountains and deserts than to the bumper-to-bumper traffic on the freeways.
5-0 out of 5 stars wyman shares his knowledge and photos
Dave Wyman knows California's backroads as well as Huell Howser! I've driven many of these roads, and am amazed at the research Dave has done to make their history, and their present, come alive in interesting, readable prose. His photography is colorful, easy to look at, and makes you want to be there. If you're headed to the backroads, or just want to travel by armchair, this book is for you! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Gift that keeps on giving
I received this book as a gift and it was all that I had hoped it would be. So I bought two of them to give as gifts to my "Tractor" buddies.

4-0 out of 5 stars Farmall cub research
I bought this book because my late grandfather owned a farmall cub that has several implements, although it belongs to my uncle now I wanted to research it for its originality and the year it was made, a very informitive book.
4-0 out of 5 stars Farmall Letter Series Tractors
I am restoring a 1951 Farmall M, and purchased this book mainly because the description states that it contains, among other things, factory original decal placement. To my disappointment, however, when I turned to the decal section, there was no info. available for the Farmall M. Thinking I would simply try the Farmall H decal placement section, I found it also to be void of the needed information. Understanding that this particular info. was not available to the author, but perhaps book description could be revised. Otherwise, a pretty informative and entertainig read. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots and lots of pictures!
I bought this book to help me to identify and differentiate between various models of Case construction equipment, mainly, and it helped out considerably, and although I would have preferred to have seen pictures ofevery model they put out, it probably just isn't possible! 5-0 out of 5 stars A survey of the most memorable vehicles of the times
The 1950s were the heyday of innovative American automobile design, a fact celebrated by CARS OF THE FANTASTIC '50s, a survey of the most memorable vehicles of the times. The colorful tri-tones and chrome, wild design features, and glamorous embellishments come alive in a presentation featuring photographer Dan Lyons' lovely full-page color shots. 5-0 out of 5 stars A fun time
If you have read "The Last Open Road" and liked it, you'll like this.It has the same fun characters and starts where "Open Road" leaves off.If you haven't read "The Last Open Road" you may not enjoy this as much... but, in my opinion, "Montezuma's Ferrari" would stand on it's own.I'm looking foward to reading the next book in the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buddy"s next big Smash
This book is Beatufiuly written and is very entertaining. If you have not read any thing by Mr. Levy you must read this book.Like catcher in the rye? Read this book. the advertising section is beautifully done . Come on be cool.NOW BUY THIS BOOK AND ENJOY IT!

4-0 out of 5 stars For all lovers of "The Last Open Road"
The sequel to "The Last Open Road" it is a must read for readers who loved it.As a stand alone book it isn't quite as good and might not be appreciated as much if read by itself."The Last Open Road"is multi-dimensional, it is a great car tale and also a coming of age storyof a young man who wants to be a sportscar mechanic and is pursuing agirlfriend at the same time. All three threads are intertwined. The bookis wonderfully evocative of time and place, you can smell and feel thesummer nights which he describes. In "Montezuma's Ferrari" theprotagonist is a successful mechanic and married so the focus is mostly onthe car tales and the descriptions are not as engrossing but the book isstill wonderful. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Miata fan's must have.
This is a presentation-quality, two-volume boxed set with marker ribbons attached to each book. The first tells the story of the development of the Miata and also traces the history of the many sports cars that inspired the designers. The text is accompanied by beautiful photos of everything related to this wonderful little car.Photos include versions of the car through sketches, clay models, alternate body style mock-ups, to the final production machine. There are even photos of the many individuals who contributed to the design and manufacturing of the Miata. The other volume is a gorgeous photo essay showing the car in many locales. If you are a Miata fan this set belongs in your home or office

4-0 out of 5 stars Good general knowledge provided
Maximum Muscle is the story of Detroit's high powered muscle and pony cars whose direct design and implementations were borne out of the need to win races. The book takes a general look at how cars such as the Boss 302, Dodge Charger Daytona and others came to be and how successful they were in their respective series. There is some good general knowledge provided about these cars and their development (including the failures such as Pontiac's attempt to enter the Trans-Am series in '69 with their 303 block) as well as the race series they performed in (NASCAR, SCCA Trans-Am series, etc). The author separated the chapters into the different racing series with a chronological view of who did what when and how and included sections on Indy Pace Cars, dealer specific cars and the current state of muscle/pony cars.As mentioned earlier the book does give a good general look at what happened but I found the book does suffer from a lack of detail. Most of the information provided can be considered general knowledge for many automotive enthusiasts interested in that era (i.e. why the Hemi was brought back, why AMC was so successful in the '70-'72 Trans-Am series, etc).I do not mean to bemoan this book as it did a very competent job of providing all the necessary facts.I just expected more thorough detail.Overall the book was well written and gives the reader enough information about an exciting time in racing. If you want more information and detail however, you will need to look at other books that deal with specific manufacturers (such as Phil Hall's "Fearsome Fords: 1959-1973" and Larry Mitchell's "AMC Muscle Cars"). ... Does anyone know if this book is available as a cd rom

5-0 out of 5 stars An indispensable tool for collector car enthusiasts.
The Standard Catalog of American Cars is the best source for in-depth information on all makes of American cars. In addition to thousands of photos, the catalog includes specs, serial numbers, production totals, and current values on a 1 to 6 scale. Specs include original prices, weight, options, engines, overall length, wheelbase lenth, locations of factories, and much more. It's a great first source for anyone that's thinking of buying an older American car. It arms the potential buyer with enough information to have an intelligent conversation with anyone selling classic cars. With the information in this book, I've talked to sellers and knew more about their car than they did. As an old car collector and hobbyist, I've found it to be an indispensable tool. The only criticism I have is that I wish it had more photos in general, especially color. ... Read more
