A good read that tells you what to do.
I enjoyed reading this book; it is broken down into several chapters that address the various needs older cars have when they need to be restored.The restoration advice was quite complete, whether you intend to restore your car to concours standards or just create a drivable, presentable car, and I especially liked the timetables.For example, the suggestions about chrome restoration were quite helpful, and I think that following the author's advice about sending the chrome out to be done first thing since it takes so long to get done would make the process of reassembling the completed car a lot more fun.
How to Restore Your Collector Car CHECK EDITION
This is a very good informative book. However check which edition you are buying. This book was published in 1984 with the newer edition in 1999. A lot has changed particularly as to suppliers, paint technical information and welding information. I would highly recommend you skip this edition and go buy the newer edition.

Best Car Restoration Book I've Seen
Tom covers all of the details you need to know to help you restore your car.Yes, he mentions some products by name or manufacturer but only because he thinks they are the best for the purpose being discussed.He has restorered many cars and it is helpful to get his opinion of certain products.Much better than some books that tell you to do your research or, worse even, that all products are about the same so it doesn't matter which you buy.

Good fundamental information
The late Carroll Smith is certainly opinionated, but knowledgable on the fundamentals of materials engineering.Although much has happened in the materials field since this writing, the basic fundamentals are covered well.

Not really a book on engineering
Smith's books have become bibles for many racers.This one has very good sections dealing with detail aspects of race car systems although it felt like something was missing in the area of suspensions.But suspensions require their own book so that is probably unavoidable.
Just Get the Book.It is that good!Period.
I have read many books pertaining to chassis design, construction techniques, automotive materials selection, suspension design, engine design, engine components and construction, aerodynamics, downforce, sheetmetal fabrication, welding, machining, car tuning, etc.Few I have read more than twice.This is one of those few books.But why?Read more

A must have for Case tractor owners
A excellent book that covers the history, development, specs, and production of J.I. Case tractors and machinery (they even cover Cases' involvment in cars and airplanes!).Erb and Brumbaugh cover darn neareverything Case owners would want to know.

If you like steam, this book covers it.
This book covers the steam aspect of Case that other books neglect. If you want to learn something about Case steam machines, read this book.If there was one soft point, it would be that there could be more pictures ofsurviving machines in addition to the excellent older photos. ... Read more

Okay for model history
Okay for general information. Covers too many years for details about any one model or year.

Standard Catalog of Chrysler, 1914-2000
A great resource with almost TOO much info to devote alot of print to each car. Lists production numbers, and brings back alot of memories. For having so many models, the book does quite well. Also, nice histories of each Chrysler brand, incl DeSoto, Eagle, and Imperial.Lots of pictures of just about every car listed.

Great book, beautiful!
This is a great book of historical sports cars, with lots of information and beautiful pictures. This is a neat reference and a great coffee table book, very informative and very very classy too! I really recommend this for a car person, of just someone who loves the history or simply the art of beautiful cars.

An ideal guide to American Muscle cars.
This is a big book.Its mostly color photos throughout.Each car has 1 page devoted to it,1 color photo (sometimes 2 photos)and plenty of information.Its a great book.

A very nice guide
I purchased this book for my grandson to use. Had a chance to scan through it prior to giving it to him. It is fairly easy to use, although there are some models not put in the order you would think they should be listed in. Though not intended to be a full history publication, it is an item to quickly look up a model and find the differences specific to that year. Production numbers listed for most models. The Original and Still the Best Book on Tubular Spaceframes
If you are thinking of building a "Locost" replica of the Lotus Seven according to Ron Champion's Build Your Own Sports Car for as Little as �250 and Race It!, you would be well advised to consult this book to see how Champion's design could be improved.As reviewer Ian Carter can probably attest, a chassis built straight from Champion's book will not pass the Australian government's mandatory test of torsional rigidity.A Web search for "Locost" will yield thousands of hits from which you can eventually dig out some minor improvements to the Locost chassis that will allegedly double its stiffness.But if the principles so clearly presented by Costin and Phipps were applied in a complete redesign, the chassis stiffness could probably be doubled again due to improved triangulation and the use of round rather than square tubing.(Sure, square tubing is easier to weld but structurally it's equivalent to round tubing that has already collapsed on four sides!)

The Chassis Designers Bible, Amen
There is yet to be a book written, that describes the why's and how's of designing a light-weight, high-performance sports car chassis in a more informative, yet pleasantly readable style than "Racing and Sports Car Chassis Design".There are other, more contemporary titles on this topic, and having read many of them, I have a strong impression that their authors were much influenced by this book; perhaps having studied it in their college and university years.That would not be surprising, for it is forty years since the author, Michael Costin, then Development Director of Lotus Cars Ltd., with technical writer David Phipps and automotive artist, James A. Allington completed what was to be acclaimed by the industry, and motoring enthusiasts, as the Chassis Designers' Bible. the best book in existence on automobile chassis design

Excellent book - unfortunately I didn't buy the british version right away - which comes with an extraodinary CD. So I bought the british version as well and offered the american one to a friend. LONG LIVE OLD EUROPE

beautiful, humorous, thrilling
Recently I bought the UK-version of this book. It is called 'Into the Red' and comes with a CD with sounds of the sportscars described in the books. I agree with all other reviewers: this CD plus book is a must-have. Thepictures in the book are beautiful, the text by Mason and Hales istechnically, humorously and very interesting to read. Even if you are notfull into racingcars, this is still a very nice book to have in yourbookcase !

A must-have for the serious model car collector
Collectors of model cars prefer to spend their spare cash on model cars, not books on model cars. I can understand their priorities, but in the case of Ford in Miniature they really ought to reserve a few dollars for an exceptional book that puts an important part of their hobby in perspective - 1:43rd scale handbuilt models of classic American cars. Randall Olson displays a knowledge of Fords and handbuilt models like few others with a stunning array of color pictures and loads of inside information. His book will surely become a standard work for the model collector - at least for that discerning collector who is willing to spend a little on books on model cars, and not just model cars.
