5-0 out of 5 stars For the price, the best book out there, and probably the only one you need
I took the CAT based GRE general test on 9/1/06. To prepare, I got this book, as well as "The Ultimate Math Refresher", the larger Barrons book, and the ETS book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great info and tips
This is excellent to brush up before taking the GRE.The tips are so useful and easy to remember.I would definately recommend this.

4-0 out of 5 stars Portable is Good
The Barron's books are always great. This only gets 4 stars because the normal size book is obviously better because it is more detailed and has more examples. However, I got this book so I could easily transport it with me everywhere. It's easy to hide it at work. -Recommended if you want something portable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceeded my expectations
This book changed the way I design my college level courses in a very effective and enjoyable way. It will give you a lot of insight on the design of courses that will encourage students to continue learning.I also enjoyed all the reference on the results of scientific work that deals with innovative teaching methods. You will love this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Detailed ideas applied 2 work equals a new answer.
This book is worth it. I graduated from a graduate program (in education) and this information has increased/expanded my knowledge as to how things must be done in the classroom (when teaching, when testing, and when lecturing). For example, each square of information must be related to the other square of information in order to reach ones point with ones students. Education is about detail. Let this information from this book change the way you see and teach the information you have obtained a degree in. Let it take you to new spheres, or portals of information that were always present in the work that you do, but that you never saw because one lacked the tools in order to open up those worlds. Create beauty in the work that you create (in the quizzes, in the lesson plans, in the rubrics chart, in the surveys, etc.) What you lecture must be from the book, and what you assign for reading must mirror the lecture, and that equals learning.
4-0 out of 5 stars Creating Significant Learning Experiences

5-0 out of 5 stars If you can only buy one MBA admissions book, make it this one...
If you could only buy one book on MBA admissions, make it this book. How to Get Into the Top MBA Programs is the most thorough and comprehensive guide to MBA admissions; Montauk answers nearly every possible question an MBA hopeful could have. The caveat is that because this book is slightly outdated, it is best paired with a more updated book like,"Your MBA Game Plan," by Omari Bouknight and Scott Shrum.Although Montauk has this new edition (I am referencing the 2nd edition, so be sure to get whatever the most recent edition is), I think Your MBA Game Plan puts forth some important, more up-to-date advice that is slightly different, because it comes from the perspective of recent admits to a top b-school.However, it is not nearly as comprehensive as Montauk's book.

The delivery is smooth. The content is nice.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have - Read as early as possible in the process!
A friend recommended this book to me while I was preparing to apply to business school and I found it invaluable. As a strategy consultant at a "Big Five" from an Ivy undergraduate with the standard GMAT of 700 or above, I could have easily blended in with everyone else with my qualifications. This book helped me to figure out what would help me to stand out at each individual business school. Moreover, it helped me to identify my weaknesses in time to address some of them. For example, because I read this book two years before applying, I had time to become a leader in several community service organizations (instead of just participating) and to take some classes in areas I'd neglected in undergrad. Finally, I was able to choose consulting projects that created a more compelling application. Thanks in large part to this book, I now have an MBA from a top five school. More importantly, the school was the right fit for me and I loved the experience. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Responsible Teaching
Research Professor Derek Bok's "Our Underachieving Colleges" (2006, hardback) presents a new way of thinking about education in American colleges.Understanding that his presentation could create academic criticism, Bok builds his argument upon a substantial foundation of convincing research (with 49 pages of endnotes).
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, complex look at the problems of undergrad education
In this book, Derek Bok does an incredible job of laying out the shortcomings in undergraduate education. However, he does this without failing to acknowledge the good being achieved. As a former college president Dr. Bok speaks from a position of authority on the subject. The problems he identifies he backs up with thorough, thought provoking research. He does not just leave the problems as they stand but offers helpful, realistic suggestions for improvement. The greatest strenght of Dr. Bok's book is that he appreciates the complexity of the problem. The issues he raises as well as the solutions he proposes are not simplistic answers to superficial issues. This book is a must read for anyone involved in education. On top of all that, it is well written and thus a pleasure to read.In fact, I recommend it for anyone who enjoys reading a well written book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Delivery time
It took a long time from Amazon to deliver the item to me and I did not feel good about since my exam was getting closer to the date of delivering the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Physics Practice
This book has a pro and a con associated with it. The pro is that it is a plethra of free standing questions and will definitely prepare you for that aspect of the MCAT without a doubt. The con is actually only a semi con...there are no passages in this book which means you won't get practice in scanning for important facts. This isn't the end of the world, though, because the MCAT physical sciences section is highly conceptual, and this book drills the concepts like there's no tomorrow. For practice with passages, you can go to the AAMC site and download a few of their practice tests.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Physics Practice
I really found this book very, very helpful.I thought it covered every topic on the MCAT.Some of the questions were a little easier than McAT, and some seemed a little more difficult than MCAT, but they all seemed like McAT questions to me.You can't beat the online help offered with this book.THe author himself answers your science questions. Two enthusiastic thumbs up from me. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars great techniques, excellent read
"The College Administrator's Survival Guide" was by far the best book I read all summer.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book has much to offer, even to those outside of academia
Although I am not a college admnistrator, I attended a presentation by C. K. Gunsalus (full disclosure:I attended because I know her relatives in my area)and found myself looking forward to her upcoming book. Her commonsense approach to awkward situations and challenging personalities is both novel and imminently practical.I am a small business owner.I encounter the business-world counterparts of the characters in Professor Gunsalus's book regularly, and I can tell you that her approaches work equally well in both worlds. I heartily recommend this book.In fact, I am purchasing a copy for each of my staff with the hope that we can bring Professor Gunsalus's positive and ethical systems into practice in our offices and we will be discussing her examples at our next staff retreat. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Kids know what they WANT, but do they know what they NEED?
If you eat chips in class, the teacher will give you a detention.
4-0 out of 5 stars one of the best books for new or old teachers
I was in the bookstore browsing and found this book. I've been teaching college students for over ten years, but only began teaching community college four years ago, and thus feel a bit at sea sometimes with the "high school mentality." This book contains some things that are obvious to those who have been teaching for a long time, but it's almost certain that at least one or two of the views of the kids will be helpful and will translate directly into classroom practice in a way that few books on teaching do.
5-0 out of 5 stars Please read this book teachers!
This book ROCKS. I wish that all of my teachers would read it. High school kids are sick of being treated like second class citizens or caged animals and finally here we get some respect. 5-0 out of 5 stars Worked great for me!
This was the only book I used to review/practice for the NCLEX-RN.I just took it Sept 2006 and passed.I have the 2005-2006 version of this book.I thought the first half was really helpful on question type analysis and answer choice strategies.I did not think this was common sense and I wished I had read it earlier in my nursing program, it would have made a difference when we started getting "application" questions. The second half of the book was also helpful for review and practice.I learned to read the question once or twice, read and eliminate answers, then choose one instead of obsessing or overthinking as I have done in the past.I know there is some luck involved in passing the NCLEX - apparently some people are unfortunate enough to be randomly selected to receive 265 questions, while others are unlucky to get a lot of questions on an area with which they are uncomfortable - as well as some luck in surviving nursing school itself (what a bizarre culture, like trying to get into a sorority at times), and I was lucky to get a minimum number of general questions. However, I waited 3 months exactly (2 is recommended) to take the test and did very little study/review.This was the only book I used for a few weeks before the test.Risky, but it worked - I would highly recommend this book.I think Kaplan did a fantastic job.Good luck to all!
5-0 out of 5 stars This book helped me pass!
I thought this book was great.I needed a book to help me mentally prepare for the test and to give me test taking tips.I didn't need to review content, that's what nursing school is for!So, this book was perfect. When I came across a question that I wasn't sure of, I thought back to the tips in this book to help me answer the question.Very helpful!

2-0 out of 5 stars SAVE your $$$ on a better book
I was able to get through this book in only 2 days!! This entire book offers the reader ONLY strategies and no review of content. For some of you, this is what you are looking for, BUT the strategies they offer are all common sense. I have confidence that, if you were able to graduate from nursing school (ADN/BSN), you have ALREADY mastered the techniques they have to offer.

4-0 out of 5 stars A teen's perspective on an almost four star book
"Odd Girl Speaks Out" is a book of short stories by teen and preteen girls about their experiences with relationships between other girls.Opening the beginning of each section is commentary by the editor relating to what the section will be about.
4-0 out of 5 stars Memory Reminders
As we age I think it becomes harder and harder for us to remember our childhoods accurately.I was finishing up this book as I was giving a final exam and one of my students asked me, "Why are you reading that?"I tried to explain to her the research on female aggression that psychologists have been doing.I also tried to explain to her that authors like Simmons are making these research results and the personal "case studies" they apply to more available to the public and accessible to the people who need them (i.e., young girls, parents, and teachers). Both of these reasons should be enough for a person to read this collection of accounts of aggression, but I also feel things like this are important to read specifically because our memories are not accurate and maturity overrides our negative experiences sometimes.Even if you've forgotten what it was like to have no friends or to fear losing the friends you do have, your daughter, student, or client has not.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK!
I am a Registered Nurse, with 3 college degrees, working on a Masters in Education.I bought this book for my 14 year-old daughter. After we read it together, I will give it to my friend, who is a Professional Counselor for children. She has a Masters in Ed already.I'm not saying that all these degrees I'm speaking of are important or that you need them to order this book.I think anyone with a daughter should order this book.I am only speaking about our education because I want you to know that professionals are also buying & using this book in our profession.Thank you. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource!
I bought this after working for the federal government for 20 years!I was looking for a position after the agency I work for within the Department of Defense was BRAC'd.I needed some serious help in the KSA writing department. This book helped me tremendously.I breezed through the KSAs after reading what government managers are looking for in an applicant's KSA.Well worth the money.Oh, and I did get the job!

5-0 out of 5 stars Federal Resume Guidebook
I have this book as well as Ten Steps to a Federal Job.What a lifesaver.Who knew all the detail needed to get a federal job! These books are easy to digest, easy to follow, then they become a resource that I have used repeatedly. These books will take the fear out of the application process. In addition, a time saver is the "free" access to templates to help build the necessary documents. I used the template, and had a problem (turned out to be AOL as the problem). At 8am I wrote an email using the "contact us" tab on the web site the templates are located on.With-in fifteen minutes, the author herself (Kathryn K. Troutman) emailed me back and stayed with me until the issue was resolved.A short time later a technical support person contacted me by phone to make sure things were resolved. If that was not lightning fast, I do not know what is.A person whom I did not know recommended these books to me, now I am telling everyone I know (and don't know) about them!

5-0 out of 5 stars An Invaluable Book!
This book is wonderful! Whenever I have a very specific question, I can always pick this book up and refer to exactly what I need. 5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
But never pretends to be a tell-all... simply a year-long narrative from inside.

1-0 out of 5 stars A step backwards
This book really made my heart sink. I am in a sorority and if Robbins were to come spend a year in my sorority she would have reported a very different story. I think Robbins generalizes way too much in this book and purposely gives greek life a bad name. We greeks know that we have a stereotype we are all trying to break and the stereotype was layed out perfectly in this book. It is important to understand that every greek system is different from campus to campus. most campuses have a hazing policy and greek life is nothing like what is reported in this book andvery few do not have a hazing policy and personify the behavior of this book. Robbins decided she was going to focus on that small percentage and help to give greek life the horrible stereotype it allready has. I would like to see Robbins travel to a smaller non-state school and follow the sisters there. If she were to do this all she would find is good times, community service, and sisters with an undying love for one another. I strongly urge all women out there who are considering greek life to go through recruitment, there is no obligation and it will give you a look at what sorority life is really like, unlike this book. Be brave, step outside your element, and don't fall for the stereotypes.

3-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining... But not surprising!
I went to a Southern university.I was not in a sorority.I never saw the point of "buying friends."However, I feel that Robbins went into her project with a view that sororities are bad.The ONLY bad aspects of sororities, I think is the conformity and superficiality.I remember watching girls during rush, focusing so much on appearance.I remember when my roommate was in tears b/c only the "ugly" sorority wanted her.I remember how sorority girls in the top sororities would only really talk to me, an independent, when their sisters were not around.I remember how my friends who were in sororities couldn't be themselves around their sorority sisters.I also think eating disorders really may be more prevalent among sorority members. On several occasions in the dining hall, I recall overhearing one sorority sister admonish another not to eat too much or to avoid carbs etc.

4-0 out of 5 stars Exam Style
This book is a hasty review of Orgo, but it covers most of the MCAT material in relatively small number of pages. Although some diagrams are not very helpful, it tells you most of what you need. It is basically a good book if you are a time-pressed pre-med trying to take the MCAT in 2 months. If you have more time, I recommend reading over your orgo textbook once more and doing problem sets in various other MCAT preparation materials (the ones with only MCAT style problems). Hope this helps.

2-0 out of 5 stars Decent
This book was decent in that it reviewed some of the fundemental concepts necessary for the MCAT.However, most of the questions were too easy, and none resemble the format of an actual MCAT question (not passage based). There were some errors, but easy to identify. The book was worth having for extra practice if you have the money, but don't expect much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect practice problems for MCAT
Practice is the key to the MCAT.Review is an essential first step, but is only part of the complete preparation for the MCAT.ORGO 1001 will help you guys ace the Biological Science questions.Everything from stereochemistry to lab techniques is in this book. There are over 90 stereochemistry questions alone. This book won't guarantee a 15, but it may help raise your score a couple points. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!Wish I had bought it months ago.
I wish I had this book when I was doing my final core class preparing my prospectus.I had it on my 'wish list'.It would have made things much easier if I had obtained it earlier.I read it one sitting.Written in layman's terms. The best book out of several that I have bought to prepare for my dissertation.Highly recommend this as the one to obtain! You will find it valuable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Handy Guide
This book is providing me with excellent guidance throughout my dissertation process. Honestly, it has even been more helpful than my advisor. As many doctoral students do, I keep odd hours while writing, often getting my best ideas in the middle of the night. It is great to be able to access my handy advisor 24/7, meaning that my ideas have been easily acted upon no matter what time of day or night I think of them. A bit pricey, but well worth it for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and Clear
This is an outstanding guide for the dissertation process. I have consulted several other similar works on how to write a dissertation but this is the one I have relied on the most because it is comprehensive and very easy to follow. The entire text can be read in a few hours for a very good over view of the process. Then it becomes a very handy "survival" life line when problems come up. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best
One of the best books introductory books in psychology. A school of psychology without this one is surely missing an action. The authors are top most in the field.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very compelling
The authors' use of case studies and real-life examples makes this more than a textbook -- and much more readable than one. I found myself excited about reading each chapter. And I know I'll be looking up things in it in the future. My only quibble is that I found many copyediting errors that I hope the publisher will fix for future editions.

5-0 out of 5 stars go professor Gerrig!!!!
I had the pleasure of taking intro psych with professor Gerrig (one of the authors),and surprise, this was the book we used. I found it to be a great resource;it is so jam packed with useful information about things that we encounter in life that i'd recommend buying this book even if you're not a psych student. ...
