4-0 out of 5 stars Red Star Rougue Review
I found Red Star Rougue to be a very interesting book about K-129 and how it failed to launch a missle strike on Pearl Harbor so the author writes. Although the absolute truth may never be known, often truth is stranger then ficition. If you like a good cold war story you will find this book a good read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Interesting Book On An Important Event In The Cold War
I found this book to excellent. All of his evidence in the book comes together to present a very possible reason for the sinking of the K-129.Very easy, exciting read.I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the Cold War, and submarines.

1-0 out of 5 stars Could have, maybe, possible...definately!
...are just some words with discrete meanings nevertheless confused in "Red Star Rogue", which tells the story of the Soviet K-129.A nuclear missile sub that sank in the Pacific in early 1968, K-129 was already famous because of the attempt to salvage it involving the "Glomar Explorer" (told in 1998's "Blind Man's Bluff", but already well-known).Though K-129's loss had long been thought an accident, the authors boldly argue otherwise - the K-129 disaster resulted from a botched attempt to hijack the sub and attack Hawaii, a plan sanctioned at the top of the Soviet leadership in the hopes of instigating a Chinese-American war.The authors also repudiate accounts of the Glomar Explorer's only partial success in recovering K-129.

5-0 out of 5 stars Disturbing But Yet A Riveting Read!
Any citizen concerned about the manifest threats to our constitutionally guaranteed liberties emanating from the Bush administration in its approach to the "War On Terror" will do well to read and appreciate the frightening story contained in these pages. Author Stephen Grey takes great pains to carefully document the astonishing ways in which the Executive Branch has unleashed the least principled elements within the Central Intelligence Agency and fully endorsed the crypto-fascistic policy of "extraordinary rendition", which is a clever euphemism for the unlawful abduction and illegal international transportation of certain designated "terrorist" suspects to avoid domestic legal complications. In other words, when the CIA and Executive branch determine that a specificsuspected terrorist might have critical time-sensitive information, it employs this technique to deliver the the suspected terrorist into the hands of foreign governments that sanction and practice torture. Thus, the fundamental purpose of this policy is to do an end run around the constitutional guarantees which everyone within the borders of the USA enjoys by situating the suspect in countries in which brutal torture is both tolerated and practiced.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read
This book is a must read for all catholics. Thanks to Tom Doyle, Richard Sipe and Patrick Wall for having the courage "to do the right thing" and reveal what the catholic church wants to ignore and keep "secret" - power, control and abuse.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Superb Book
This book is a most useful one - to say the least - for those of us, within the Church, grieved by these scandals and the utterly appalling manner in which they have been/are being handled. This excellent book should be required reading for bishops and priests everywhere.
3-0 out of 5 stars Sex, Preists and Secret Codes: The Catholic Church's 2000-year Paper Trail of Sexual Abuse, by Doyle, TP, Sipe, AWR
I found this book a fascinating and courageous examination of the clergy sex abuse issue. The historical perspective shed much needed light on contemporary atttitudes of Church authorities to the problem. The insights into the nature of the spiritual damage done to survivors are particularly welcome and valuable.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Protocols:Anti-Semitisim for Another Century
What is striking about this book is that is a rare contemporary contextualization of this nasty little tract...written at the end of the 1900s and which provided fuel for the fire of National Socialism.
5-0 out of 5 stars A study of Anti-semitism from a Secular Jewish Viewpoint
The Protocols of the Elders of Zion is still worth reading about since it one of those books that it helped start a social movement of increased intolerance and violence towards Jews in Nazi Germany. It is still taken seriously in the present-day middle east. 3-0 out of 5 stars A sloppy history of anti-Semitism.
This is a good book because first it is short and easy to read, it discusses a notorious fabrication or conspiracy theory, and it shows just how confused the Jewish position is with regards to the "other" or antisemitism. The author seems to meander between numerous concepts and explanations of antisemitism, but never really embraces a coherent theme. Oddly, this is very similar to "The Protocols" that he attacks.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Icke before the fall
I've followed David Icke's progress for some years now and I can say with certainty that this was Icke's last decent publication before his credibility took a nosedive.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Young Icke For Neo-Politick
Icke has changed his world view many times. this was before he stumbled or should i say stole / found / was given; the theory of our reptilian origins and how all illuminati and their illuminatuses link up to this.
5-0 out of 5 stars IT WILL MAKE YOU VIEW THINGS FROM A DIFFERENT ANGLE
I am just going to keep this simple. I dont read many books because I find that so many "writers" are only following the latest trend and writing about how to make money when the only thing they make money on is a book that they paid someone else to write. David Ickedoesn't try and preach to his readers. He has a style that will just blow you away with events that media has labeled "Conspiracy Theories".After checking for your self these events and theories start really coming together in really wierd ways and David Icke ties it ALL together with verifiable facts. These facts aren't a real big deal untill someone points out all of the very odd coincidences that link them together. David Icke is that person!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Deftly deconstructs popular and influential movies
In Hoodwinked: Watching Movies With Eyes Wide Open, one of America's foremost alternative media analysts, Uri Dowbenko, deftly deconstructs popular and influential movies ranging from "The Matrix", to "Fight Club"; to "The Truman Show", to "Wag the Dog", and so many others. This 323-page compendium of cogent observation and informative insights is organized into six major sections: Poli-Sci-Fi (Political Science Fiction); Illuminati, Mind Control and Other PsyOps; Into the Mystic; Secrets and Lies of History; Pop Idolatry: Sex & Death and Other Games; and Government-Business (Scams) as Usual. Thoughtful and thought provoking, Dowbenko's commentaries are rife with a humorous intelligence and attention-gripping iconoclasm that makes Hoodwinked "must" reading for students and critics of American cinema.

5-0 out of 5 stars Here's the evidence that it was
How can a democratic country allow voting machines that cannot be verified? How can it let interested parties run elections? How can the media stand by while people are not allowed to vote? The answer is that a democratic country can't do this and remain democratic.
1-0 out of 5 stars are you kidding me ?
this is too funny Ohio exit polling must have been much like Illinois?
5-0 out of 5 stars Where's your evidence? Here!
This is the one. If you've had a hunch that the 2004 election was stolen, but have been stymied in arguing the case by too much conjecture, too little hard evidence, and vulnerability to people who think you're a paranoid, tin-foil hat, conspiracy theorist, this book is going to make your life easier. Not a lot easier, though, because 1) people want to believe that America is innately good; and 2) the the cheating is so widespread that it boggles the mind and will. But Freeman and Bleifuss provide the essential facts and key questions for attacking the problem step-by-step. The book is very clearly organized with sections about voter disenfranchisement (especially African-American), corruptible voting machines, legal and illegal suppression of votes, the particular cases of Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004, and biased polls.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hail The Master Of Knowledge - Wilson Has Done It Again
Wilson has done it again. from james joyce to leary. just when icke was starting to wake up to some of these things...
3-0 out of 5 stars A decent follow-up, but nothing outstanding
R.A. Wilson's "Cosmic Trigger: The Final Secret of the Illuminati" was a fascinating look at the events leading up to the writing of the classic Illuminatus! Trilogy. An intriguing look at relativism in literature and reality, the first Cosmic Trigger delightfully wove acid, Uncle Al, and conspiracy theories into a head-trip of "cosmic" proportions.Wilson's follow-up, unfortunately, fails to break any new ground.2-0 out of 5 stars George Burns was right!
It's funny how Robert Anton Wilson's chosen subject matter has effectively invalidated criticism of his books. One of his central themes is the mistrust of authority and "experts".Also, much of the chapters in any of his book are dedicated to intentionally misleading the reader in order to force said reader into performing the heinous task of thinking for themselves.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amy goodman is an invalualble informer to the public!
This has to be one of the most insightful books that I've read all century (several years).
5-0 out of 5 stars Information Reigns over Monarchy
Distibuting investigative reporting information in every way possible is important to leading mankind and the world into the future and preventing a recession into the chaotic tribal wacko nationalism of elitist government. This book does a great job of describing the elements and attitudes currently at work which are placing the United States and the world in great peril.Amy Goodman is clear and succinct in her delivery and avoids the appearance of liberal fanaticism which triggers blindness in many people. She has carried over this style from the Democracy Now! radio program that so effectively broadens the view of world news which has been sadly and horribly narrowed by the established media.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional book the delves deep into today's news
This is a great book that exposes many ugly, but important-to-know facts about our nation and world.

5-0 out of 5 stars If You "get this info", you're ready for the "Perenial Philosophy"
If this resonates with your intellect, but you don't like the "slams" against Masonry,a very good moral philosophy, you're ready for the Universal truths.Dr. Steven Greer's latest book on remote viewing, meditation and Oneness will help greatly or any version of the Perenial Philosophy. Also Manley Hall's Secret Teachings of All Ages has all the truths you'll ever need and more. Thanks for someone being open here in this book with the stuff they don't want to talk about much here in Mormonism. . . . and, don't get me wrong, I care for plenty of these people deeply, but this "brainwashing" stuff they do on them is just too much. . . such an aberation of universal truths into something supposedly "so exclusive" that is meant to be for everyone freely and with no "strings" attached. . .

3-0 out of 5 stars THE WEIRD MORMON PARADOX
After many years of studying the Mormon church, attending some of its services, knowing its people and rejecting the entire concept I think I know the problem with it: it's too much of a paradox. If you take the Methodists or Baptists or Catholics you have a mishmash of ideas and behaviors and they're not that exciting. In those churches, can you imagine being called into an office for a discussion of your CONDUCT?? To be told what might happen to you if it continues?? Of course not. But with the Mormons you have incredible discrepencies that keep them talked about. What do I mean. Well, you take any small town with a high mormon population (like Mesa, Az and Loveland, CO)and what do you see? Spotless cars, immaculate yards, well mannered children, clean cut teenagers, non drinkers. But, what puzzles people and gets their attention is the Huge Business Conglomerate of the leadership. The Arrogance of the "Twelve Apostles" on television. The popularity of Prozac amongst the women. The exhaustion of the home teachers. The guilt of the teens. The end of year check you write them based on your income for the past year!!! The constant pressure to have huge families. The behaviors of the founders that are debated ad nauseum like Joseph Smith's fondness for alcohol, the church's denial that Brigham Young had That Many wives, the ever changing explanation for how the so called Golden Plates came into existence and translation, the "courts" you must attend if you're found to have done something against the church (like talk too much about it in a negative manner), the Mountain Meadows Massacre--I could go on and on. I had treated the missionaries like Gods in my home for weeks. But the last time they came over they brought their Bishop with them and threatened me with, "I'm warning you: you're playing WITH FIRE." And here I had given them my birthday money from my mother, knowing their awful living conditions. I thought we were friends. And yes, if you have casual friends who are members and think you MIGHT become a member they're very friendly. But when they find out you are Not being baptized you get this big chill. Do Methodists and Catholics act like that? Do they come to your home with lessons? Send you letters?
4-0 out of 5 stars Thorough!
This book is thorough, almost to a fault. Each section contains info covered in previous sections. This, however, has value in that each section is a small book that could be read for detailed information about each topic.About me:My ancestors were some of the first people into the Salt Lake Valley with Brigham Young. My mother was the middle child of family of 16 kids raised in a small farming town outside of Salt Lake City. They were so poor that they slept 5-6 kids to a bed and didn't have adequate clothing or other resources for the family. However, in keeping with church beliefs my grandmother continued to have children. My mother remembers her childhood as a nightmare of hard work on the farm beginning when she was 3 yrs. old, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect. She sent me and my siblings to church despite her own decision to not participate. While reading this book I had many dreams about this Mormon doctrination and the confusion I felt as a child. I left the church as a young adolescent when I was shamed for being attracted to boys.I requested that my name be removed from church rolls when Sonya Johnson was ex-communicated for her stand on the ERA.For many years, even without leaving forwarding addresses, I would have missionaries show up on my door step, knowing my name & personal information, and asking to bring me back into the church.Talk about persistence! Although I am now middle aged I still feel some confusion and guilt about the possiblity that I am wrong in thinking the church is not right.I have read many books about the Mormon religion in an attempt to understand my own experience and to understand the extended and immediate family I came from. This book was helpful to me in affirming that the Mormon religion is a cult.I would also recommend Martha Beck's Leaving the Saints, and another book on the Mountain Meadows Massacre whose name is escaping me, but I believe is called Red Mountain. One detail not addressed in Wood's book is the prevalence of heavy drinking among the early Mormon pioneers who were living in harsh dirty cold circumstances.I have no desire to put down anyone of any faith, but am concerned when any religion has a goal of national or world domination. ... Editorial Review

In the first major book on AIDS, San Francisco Chronicle reporter Randy Shilts examines the making of an epidemic. Shilts researched and reported the book exhaustively, chronicling almost day-by-day the first five years of AIDS. His work is critical of the medical and scientific communities' initial response and particularly harsh on the Reagan Administration, who he claims cut funding, ignored calls for action and deliberately misled Congress. Shilts doesn't stop there, wondering why more people in the gay community, the mass media and the country at large didn't stand up in anger more quickly. The AIDS pandemic is one of the most striking developments of the late 20th century and this is the definitive story of its beginnings. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book I Read in 2005
And the Band Played On is an act of phenomenal research and writing, and a very frightening book on many levels because of the political wrangling, political bumbling, and political disregard for a medical crisis which cost the lives of so many, the scientific in-fighting which slowed medical break throughs and sacrificed lives, and the insanity of national agencies which were supposed to be saving lives, but which in this case knowingly risked the lives of many either because they didn't want to do the work, didn't want to spend the money, or didn't want to anger certain political groups.Gay men were deemed to be utterly dispensable by so many.
5-0 out of 5 stars AIDS: A Biography
Good stories work on several levels; they are multi-dimensional views of the same event. To honor the 25th anniversary of the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, I reread Randy Shilts's groundbreaking work, which was published a mere six years after the reports of a `gay cancer' first surfaced at the CDC.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the most important books written the previous century
To me this important expose on the begining of the AIDS crises and Reagan's response is extremely important. It's now classic and old information. But it's a valuable history lesson we all must read. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars not just about sheep
If I had told friends I was reading about alleged disease in sheep they would have missed the true significance of this book. It's about big government intervention against the rights of citizens. It's about a Vermont family's creativity and dedication and how all of that was trampled by the USDA run amok. It's also about what happens when special interests and lobbyists overwhelm a government agency.
5-0 out of 5 stars We need to rein in government.
In 2001 the USDA swooped down on two farmers in Vermont and killed all their sheep without proof of any disease in the animals. This is a scary foreshadowing of the USDA's plans for 5-0 out of 5 stars USDA TYRANNY IN ACTION
A PAGE TURNER!I couldn't put this book down until I'd read the last page.As other reviewers have said, "Mad Sheep" will make your blood boil!

5-0 out of 5 stars If a Constitution falls in the woods when no one is listening, does anybody care?
I am unfortunately not suprised by any of the revelations in this book.It seems that the vast majority of Americans simply do not care what kind of scumbags claim to "represent" us.Unfortunately, I do not own a multibillion dollar corporation, so I suppose I do not deserve representation.Hey, didn't the Declaration of Independence say something about people not being represented properly?
5-0 out of 5 stars Finally--an investigative reporter takes on the important issues
This book is a terrific volume for understanding what's gone wrong in America over the past 30 years.Unlike many best-selling authors, who spout only uninformed opinions and vitriolic ones at that, this guy actually does substantive research on his issues and helps us understand the deeper context behind them: the history, the players, their connections to other folks. What good is that you'll learn how much of our world is being controlled/destroyed by people and regulations that you've never even hear of or about. If everyone read this book and spoke up, we might actually preserve this democracy and live better lives. We'd understand what in our democracy and world is going wrong and have some ideas as to how to fix this.
4-0 out of 5 stars You Can Count On It
Actually, you can't according to Greg Palast who challenges the results of the 2000 election in which he charges Jeb Bush with instituting his own style of Jim Crow laws to ensure that his brother would get elected. It's unique because time and again conservative papers and organizations conducted studies to show that Bush would have won anyway. Palast concedes that a recount of the actual votes would back that up. But Palast is concerned with the voters who were not allowed to vote, and the votes that were not counted.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Fun Romp through the World of "Secrets"
Russ Kick has written a fun little book that combines the "truthiness" of tabloid journalism with paranoid conspiracy theory in 50 little bite-size chunks. It's a blast to read if you don't take it too seriously.
