4-0 out of 5 stars Great insight into Iran-Contra
Despite some flaws in the writing style, this book is a terrific read.
1-0 out of 5 stars Conspiracy?
Truth be told, even "fruitcake conspiracy theories" are right occasionally. This doesn't measure up that well. This is an interview with Bobby Nieves, one of the agents working with the Nicaraguan Resistance. Here it is for good and all:

5-0 out of 5 stars The Wanderer as preamble to the AmericanCivil War
Despite a lifelong fascination with the Civil War, the Wanderer and the events and characters surrounding her were quite unknown to me. My focus had been up north with those trying to save the Union by a means short of war. Calonius has advanced my perspective and understanding of this period in having introduced me to the Wanderer. A very readable book, with consistant devotion to fact and detail. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars my two sense
I too feel compelled to write upon reading a prior review which said "The Turkish government used its right to get in and saved the lives of thousands of Turks out there. Why did they only took one third of the island? Because at that time the Turk population was the one third of the population of Cyprus. What do you expect?"
5-0 out of 5 stars This must be a great book. Here is what I remember from those days
Sorry,I have not read this book yet,I certainlly will. As someone serving in the Greek military the days of the invasion I would like to point the following. It was well known in Greece that when "Atila" starting rolling on the island many fleeing Greek Cypriots gave the keys of their houses for safe keeping to ***their Turkish Cypriot neighbors***. I think this speaks volumes. It was talked about in our army that the pupet of the US inspired regime in Athens Mr Sampson, who had led the coup against Makarios that meant to anex Cyprus to the dictatorship in Greece had gathered many Turkish Cypriots in a foot ball stadium with some very bad plans for them. We should not forget that the attack on the Turkish Cypriots was part of a general attack on the Cypriot republic.Readers may want to go back to the interview of Makario's in Oriana Falatsi's "Interview with History".Britain of course had been practising for a while there the old and tried "Divide and Rule".I saw with my own eyes right wing connected members of the Greek military cheering at the overthrough of the government of Makarios. It was their dream come true, of course some days later they saw that the Turkish generals had been ready for a very long time to take advantage of that unique oportunity, clearly for the generals in Ankara the well being of the Turkish Cypriots was not a major concern.NOTE: The reviews of the book on this site do bring all sorts of important points to the attention of the reader. This is the most informative collection of reviews I ever read at the Amazon site.

5-0 out of 5 stars Joel S.
Excellent book and well researched. I am half way through the book and find it hard to put down. It is unimaginable that all the beliefs that I was raised with could have all been a well conceived lie. It is a must read for those who want to know the truth about how our lord and savior was cast aside for self interest of a few. It is a sad commentary but one that must be told.

5-0 out of 5 stars End of History Messiah Conspiracy
In light of the recent World Trade Center bombing, this book is especially valuable. On page 813, it referred to the 1993 failed bombing and predicted the Arabs would succeed in the 21st century.Written in 1996 (the 20th century) just five years later on September 11, 2001 (a day we will never forget!), Arab Moslem terrorists, indeed, did succeed. The author illustrates, in the opening pages of chapter 20, that the Koran (the Muslim equivalent of the Christian's Bible), advocates terror and the killing of Jews/Christians should they refuse to convert to Islam.Actual passages from the Koran are quoted. It would appear to avert future Islamic terror that the Koran is in need of being edited.4-0 out of 5 stars thoroughly researched

2-0 out of 5 stars Gee, conspiracies don't happen in America
This work is interesting to a degree, but each case has to be looked at individually. Conspiracies are everywhere- the last 3 major shootings Columbine, DC Sniper & The recent Phoenix shootings were all conspiracies! Not lone nuts.TWTC the first one in '93 was a conspiracy OK City was a conspiracy & so was 911. Dos that mean a missile hit the pentagon, or explosives were planted um... no. If you can't find a conspiracy in the JFK Assassination after seeing the Z Film, reading Crossfire,or farewell To Justice, or Murder In Dealey Plaza stick yer head back up yer rear end where it belongs. The opposite of a rabid conspiracy theorist is an ardent debunker with an agenda, and there is no way the latter should have anymore credibilty than the former.

1-0 out of 5 stars CONSPIRACY.No such thing according to this author. Let's remove it from the Dictionary
This book is incredible! This author "poo-poos" any idea of Conspiracy as if it's in our deep inner mind.Just notice he equates it with "Paranoid".Does he think Bin Laden and his gang "conspired"?Well if you read one of Mr. Pipes other books, he certainly believes that, so I guess we can say he's paranoid.Conspiracies most likely are natural and normal, an abscence of conspiracy would be contrary to how individuals, nations and institutions work.Mr. Pipes ought to know that well. He's a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, an organization which was founded by J.P. Morgan and has ties to the Federal Reserve Bank, which is a private bank: not Federal but a cabal of private bankers serving their own best interests. You can't join the CFR on your own--you must be invited! It's a club of the elite, by the elite for the elite. Every high ranking member of the Bush Admin is CFR: Hayden, Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, Powell, Paulson, Snow, etc, etc, also so is Ms. Clinton and many other ruling Democrats. Is this a coincidence, hardly! Compare Mr. Pipes book to Tim Carney's "The Big Ripoff", recently hosted on CSPAN book reviews and available on Amzaon.Tim gets close to the target by seeing the symptoms. Mr. Pipes writing of this book is highly suspect. One has to question his motives. It's like the Big Bad Wolf writing a book:How to Raise Chickens in a Hen House and Keep Them Safe. You would be better reading G. Edward Griffin's book: Creature from Jekyll Island-a second look at the Federal Reserve.

3-0 out of 5 stars So So
The book seems interesting but I really wonder what his motivations are to discredit ALL theories of any conspiracies. The assumption is made that there arent any Conspiracy FACTS, just theories. The author needs to do some reading before painting anybody that doesnt believe the spoonfeeding the media tosses out to us as a nut. Interesting but Suspect. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Clancy Novel- but real
Gerald Posner opens up a whole new aspect of geo-politics that, when I heard myself summarizing to those around me, sounded like a bad Clancy screenplay- except this is true.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and Timely Insights!
Posner begins by relating the outcome of capturing Abu Zubeydah, the highest-ranking al-Qaeda operative captured so far by the United States. The U.S. arranged to mislead their captive into thinking that he had been turned over to Saudi's. Zubeydah's reaction was one of relief, and he quickly spit out the phone #s of two Saudi royals, stating that "they would take care of the situation." Unsure what to make of this, the U.S. then informed Zubeydah that the phone #s were no good. He then provided several other Saudi names and that of the Chief of Pakistan's Air Force, adding that the Pakistani and one of the Saudis knew of 9/11 in advance.
2-0 out of 5 stars Polemical Rather Than Historical
Those who are looking for an introduction to Saudi history will be disappointed with this book.It is a polemic that, from beginning to end, seeks to persuade rather than to explain.

4-0 out of 5 stars Research for more
This book for me was very good. There seems to be some "connecting of the dots" with other topics during a certain administration and other 'strange occurences'.Not a conspiracty theorist, but some things are more than obvious.

4-0 out of 5 stars As author I agree with A. Abruzzese's criticism
I am Four Arrows, the lead author of this book.(See also my newest text from the Univesity of Texas, "Unlearning the Language of Conquest: Scholars Expose Anti-Indianism in America). 5-0 out of 5 stars A Strange Death Indeed
"American Assassination: The Strange Death of Senator Paul Wellstone" expands the report filed by the NTSB with the information received from eyewitnesses, U.S. government log files, local government reports and interviews with people related to those who died in the crash.Using this information and deductive reasoning/logic to sort through the gathered evidence, the authors display their conclusion: Wellstone, his family and friends, and the pilots were killed through sabotage.Conspiracy theories generally don't hold my interest too long unless there's proof, but I found this book to be well-written and strong in the use of logic. The book was extremely interesting to me, as I had suspected that the Senator's death by plane crash (another plane crash death) to be very peculiar, to a very suspicious degree.Read the book with an open mind, and see what kind of death you believe this to be. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Quite Good
Paul Fisher's important book is thoroughly researched, meticulously documented, and well written.Certainly, it is the clarion call of a Catholic against the dangers of freemasonry in American society. But that is no reason to condemn the book.Rather, understanding the perspective of the author helps us to appreciate more fully what is reflected in the corpus of the work.
2-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat disappointing
I eagerly read this book and found myself somewhat disappointed by the fact that the author's only evidence against Masonry seems to be "guilt by association".1-0 out of 5 stars Uncited Catholic Opposition
This work while attempting to appear objective is clearly a work of an Anti-Masonic Catholic. It is no secret that the Catholic Church and Freemasonry have a longstanding relationship of less than amicable terms. Mr. Fisher attended a Catholic University and has since written for several Catholic magazines. This book is even published by a Catholic Publishing company. (Talk about conspiracies!) On top of all these, Mr. Fisher's endnotes cite unidentified sources. (I'm still trying to locate Ibid!) For a truely objective study of Freemasonry and its history, try Robinson's "Born In Blood," a much more scholarly and less sensational book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Spotlight on Corruption

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating and readable
At last a clear, short, well-written and captivating account of how Saddam Hussein managed to amass billions of dollars under the table during the United Nations Oil for Food Program.Though the book is based on the dreadfully dry, multi-volume report issued by Paul Volcker's investigation, it is actually a pleasure to read. This book explains, without sensationalism or political bias, how United Nations policy, international political compromises, greedy companies, nations, and individuals helped Saddam control the sale of oil and the purchase of humanitarian supplies so that he could receive kickbacks and surcharges. The story is not just one of individual or even U.N. corruption, but the story is at core about the weak will and lack of commitment of the international community to follow through when it administers economic sanctions against rebel regimes. As we face the question of how to handle nuclear proliferation and terrorism, this is a must-read, for if we do not learn from the past we are doomed to repeat it.The book is also a fascinating account of how international cooperation and a crack team of independent investigators, funded by the United Nations, managed to expose the corruption, causing several nations to institute prosecutions and jump-start their own investigations, and forcing the United Nations itself to get serious about institutional reforms. That this international investigation could be so successful shows that international cooperation is possible, and this alone gives me hope that economic sanctions regimes can be better designed and administered in the future. ... Editorial Review

There are two ways to look at this bestseller by Watergate scoopmeister Woodward. First, it's an original take on Clinton's sex scandal, framing it as the latest consequence of Nixon's assault on the U.S. political system. Woodward sketches each president's tussles with scandal managing after Watergate permanently turned up the press heat on the White House. Ford lies about a meeting concerning a potential deal to pardon Nixon, but remains convinced he did nothing wrong. Carter's pious advocacy of truth telling backfires when he's confronted with conundrums involving his pal Bert Lance, the fallout from CIA-provided hookers, and cash for King Hussein. Reagan's men try to make him understand the lies and shocking wrongness of the Iran-Contra debacle, but he simply, stubbornly doesn't get it. And by the time prosecutors interview Reagan in 1992, he's so ill he can't remember his own oldest friends and advisers.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Inside of the White House
Another Bob Woodward book, another masterpiece. I am getting great pleasure from his books. Detailed research, witnesses, and main character interviews are combined to revealed truth with every respect. In Shadows, he discovers the last five presidents scandals and events around them. Book starts with Ford, Nixon and Watergate, This is the most interesting chapter of the book, and it is explained with every detail. Secondly, Carter and payment made to Jordan King and Iran Hostage crisis. You can feel Carter's pain in this chapter. After that, of course Reagan andIran-Contra weapon sale and Oliver North incident. This chapter is also very interesting. The role Regan and Senior Bush is much different than public knows. Senior Bush's role is very controversial. There are always something learn from his books. When Senior Bush was at the White House, subject is the war again. First gulf war and Saddam stories given. There is also little bit information about Bush-Saudi relations in that time. Inevitable, Mr. Bandar's name is also here. Finally, Clinton era, Whitewater and Monica. This is also very big chapter. In Whitewater investigation is explained very well. Also Monica scandal is the fun part of the book. Star and Clinton have not a bad relation as we know.
4-0 out of 5 stars The effect the Independent Counsel had on the Presidency
I think this is a pretty good book on the Presidency of the United States since Watergate.Of course, Mr. Woodward played a significant role in reporting Watergate and has written extensively about the Presidency since then.5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, disturbing look at the presidency

Written to be a persuasive "reference" before the 2004 election, CAN is thought provoking, though at times a slanted view.

This book does an excellent job of documenting the Lincoln "conspiracy" and telling the story of John Wilkes Booth-and it's a great read.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Crime of the 19th Century

This is the second book that I have bought by Alan B Jones, the first being How the World Really Works. How the World Really Works is an excellent book but I enjoyed this one better (Secrecy or Freedom?).
