Oh boy, more "lets understand the terrorist" garbage
The religion of peace is at it again!In response to the popes words, muslims all over the world respond with violence, destruction, rage, hatred, burning down buildings, burning papal effigies, issuing fatwas against the pope, and even shooting a 70 year old nun in the back.Wow, such peace from a religion of "peace".If Islam is a religion of peace, then all the guns in the world are pink flowers, and every nuclear bomb, a soft feathery pillow.Violence for words.Destruction for speech.PLEASE!This is a religion of war, and bereft mindless 70 year old bags like Noam have begun to lose a lot of mental function with age.This old bag of a man gives Muslims free passes and blames America.
Chomsky is a lunatic, take with a grain of salt
I picture Chomsky in a sunless, cluttered apartment full of scattered yellowing newspapers, surrounded only by walls of his own clippings.Yes, his recent writing is the result of too little exposure to the real world.Not everything is a conspiracy theory, and not all facts or events paint an overall trend or picture.The world is too random for all similar events to be related.But when you surround yourself with your own highlighted facts of history and dwell on them day after day trying to sell your thoughts, the result is going to be nonsense.I respect Chomsky's right to say what he thinks, and as a liberal I often find myself agreeing with him (but for vastly different reasons).What I do not respect are those readers who take his words as gospel, when they are simply the rantings and ravings of someone who has lost touch with how the real world works.Throwing together a bunch of events across history does not make for a lucid view of how we got to the present and what to do about the current problems.To me, he is no different from those who have assembled enough disjointed evidence as to convince themselves that 9-11 was perpetrated by the U.S. government.

If you have an interest in offshore racing, take the time and read this compelling book about the father of the the industry. Ever heard of Thunderboat row? Find out the impact he had on some of the largest manufacturers in the country, and their attempts to to keep him out of the boat building business.You will learn about the rise and murder of Don Aronow and how state law enforcement of Florida(at the time led by the infamous Janet Reno) either bungled the investigation, or for whatever reason, let his death go unsolved. Foucault's Disicpline
Foucault's "Discipline and Punish," is an excellent read. On point in his breakdown and analysis of where our modern day system of prison come from; readers will find this book well written easily understanble in its translation of the history of the prison system.

Excellent
For the people saying that this book is dense, impenetrable, hard to understand, etc., I would suggest simply going a little slower and, if possible, studying other works by Foucault in order to get used to his style. Among Foucault's books, I think this is probably the "easiest" to read in that the motives of its writing are clear, the themes are laid out for you in black and white, and the documented evidence/archival history that he returns to time and time again is at least documented and built on solidly. Foucault had a way with seeing history in new ways, this book is a beautiful demonstration of that, it uncovers and unveils currents at work within history other than the "accepted" or "offered" ones, one of his favorite projects, and as such...I think it's essential. As with his other books, though, be prepared for bold, grand statements and stylistic flourishes that are not always backed up with demonstrated evidence, but...he knew that part of writing was rhetoric. He states his case, and does so with amazing eloquence...this is a very powerful book.

BUYER BEWARE
I bought the book on a recommendation a year back and tried to read it but failed to concentrate enough as it was a pretty dense book. Recently I picked it up again, this time determined to finish it as it is considered an important work.

Pretty darn good for a promotional book
This book is currently being used for the Lt's promotional exam in Houston, Texas.As promotional books, it is pretty useful.The text covers all of the topics that a supervisor/ manager should know (Management Styles/Leadership Theory/Communications, etc..)without going into too much depth as some texts do.There is enough material to make it challenging, but what is important to me is that after the test is over, there still is worth to this book.They list resources, ideas, and plans that can be converted to your departments use.If your studying,good luck.If you just want to pick up some ideas on the latest in police management theory, this is still a good book to study!

I like this book.
I like this book. It is filled with a lot of interesting information about how the U.S. justice system uses psychology and psychologists. It also clearly defines what a forensic psychologist is. I am a fourth year psychology major and have read many psychology books about a variety of psychological subjects, and this bookis one of the most intresting I have read in a while. The only thing I do not like about it is that it has no glossary of the bold words, only a subject and name index. This makes it a little difficult to completely understand what the vocabulary words mean especially since many of them are legal terms.

The worst textbook I've ever wasted money on...
Poorly ordered, extremely dry, and almost impossible to read.And I've read a lot of textbooks.

Absolutely the best
Fisher provides the absolute, hands-down best text out there for basic crime scene work.This is the one that is in everyone's bookshelf - we even keep all our old editions!When I began working in crime scene investigations, this was my 'go-to' reference, and several years later, I still read through it every once in a while to keep fresh.I teach part time, and this was the book my co-instructor and I suggested that we use for our basic and advanced crime scene classes - thank goodness it's our new text!I can't wait to share Fisher with our students.Invaluable book.

it is a good book and it helps me keep up in class.I like looking at the pictures.I also like how real crimes are described to give examples.

For Forensics Buffs
This is a great book for ne body interested in knowing more about forensic science, it has a great overview of many different aspects of this varied area and the case studies make for some interesting reading, its set out in away thats easy and clear to understand, I left my copy lying around at home, and was amazed at the how many people picked it up to flick through and then couldn't put it down (including my brother and he hates to read!) Must Read for Any Correctional Employee

If my office caught fire, this is what I'd bring with me.
At first I was hesitant to spend $120 on a reference book I couldn't manually look through (aside from the pages available for viewing through Amazon), but I took a chance.As a forensic scientist who is new to death investigation, this reference is well worth the money.From front to back, this book is packed with well-written, thorough discussions of the different causes and manners of death. Thompson's Best
In my opinion it doesn't get more gonzo than this.Thompson goes in and becomes a part of this degraded and bizarre world, promising a keg of beer to his friends after the book is finished.Although he never did give them that keg of beer,he got his butt kicked for not going it.I believe that sets things even.

WIREBIRDS ON FIREWHEELS
Hell's Angels is an all-time enduring classic by the late "Gonzo" journalist Hunter S. Thompson. It is a very interactive, very detailed description of one's affiliation with the dreaded motorcycle outlaws known as the Hell's Angels. The writing style is quite fascinating, for if it were not based on actual accounts or the interpretations thereof, it would be a most fascinating series of pulp fiction stories.

Good reference
If your idea of forensics is CSI on television, this book is not for you.If you are studying forensic science, or need an excellent reference book, by all means - buy it.This book gives one a strong foundation, and the photographs are an excellent source of information, of which to look at after reading the descriptions.
??No gunshots??
This seems to be pretty good, comprehensive, and easy-to-read text on forensic pathology... but there is *nothing* at all on gunshot wounds... not even basic guidelines on entrance and exit identification.You have to buy his separate text on gunshot wounds to get anything on the subject.This book is cheaper than Spitz and Fisher, but when you find that there is nothing on gunshots, the price advantage is lost. ...
