1-0 out of 5 stars Horrific Story - Terribly Written - Very Disappointing
This book was a HUGE disappointment for me because I have used the Amazon Recommendations wizard for a long time and this book was the #1 recommendation based on my preferences. How could this book be likened to ANYTHING on my list? The similarities come to a dead stop other than being on the topic of 'child abuse'.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Real Pageturner
Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. I am still stunned that this woman is alive today and that someone hasn't shot her dead. Her poor children will never be right. All I can say is that I would like to be in a room with Terry for about 1 hour. How was she even allowed to have children. She should have been spayed long ago.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a good read
The reason I gave this book such a low review is because it was so poorly written. I felt like I was reading something intended for a second grader. I was very diappointed by the author and the way the book was written. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Learn why some police hate homosexuals and others.
In the chapter on sex crimes in this book, the O'Haras explain how homosexuals need to be closely watched and how they have a predisposition toward negative and criminal acts. Much of this is very stereotyped.5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to understand, yet comprehensive
The Fundamentals of Criminal Investigation by Charles E.O'Hara provides a particuarly informative and comprehensive insight into the specific areas of criminal investigation. The author includes detailed explanations and supports his theories with the use of factual information and case studies. As I am currently studying law, I have been searching for a text which provides me with detailed information and everything I need to know. This book certainly has it all. This is must-have for those studying criminal investigation. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the finest Bloodstain texts I have read. OUTSTANDING!
This is one of the finest reference books I have had the pleasure to read.It is easy to understand, no far out explanations.I believe this bookshould be on the shelf of any and all investigators, new or old.The tableof contents was very informative. You are taken from the history of thisdisipline, all the way to case study.Nothing is missed and you can carrythe book by yourself!!Credit was properly given to those that were first, there was no attempt to make one believe the editors were the"first" to discover this disipline.Photos often assisted text. I believe this is necessary for those investigators who do not see this asmuch as others. There was even a glossary !! EXCELLENT WORK !I lookforward to treating my eyes to the next book by James & Eckert

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for anyone interested in Criminal Law and Enforcement
Anyone involved in law enforcement or Crimial Law will cherish this informative, well written text. It takes a very complicated, mind numbing subject and pilots the reader in an organized, comprehensible manner to awell rounded understanding of the subject. This one should be requiredreading for all law students and Criminal Law practitioners. AMasterpiece!!! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars What was this supposed to be?
I've read everything Michael Connelly has written.I'm a huge fan. What was this?Apparently all the news articles he wrote as a reporter organized by criminal into chapters. The result is unending repetition of the facts, as newspaper articles are wont to do.When you're reading one article a day, that's fine. But when you're reading the articles in succession, it definitely is not fine.

2-0 out of 5 stars Save Your Money and Your Time.
The flap description had me intrigued, as I have loved to read all things Connelly.I expected more of an analysis of his experiences and how they formed his work. The "Telling high school yearbook caption" was simply a reprint of the caption. Not anything more, not more about who the person was, etc. This is literally a reprint of newspaper articles, and each one repeats much of what the previous handful on each subject had said.A disappointment.Move on.

1-0 out of 5 stars if you like to read old newspapers cuttings, then go ahead,
but if you think you'd get a thrill out of this deadbeat cash-in newspapers cuttings, dream on.

5-0 out of 5 stars A history buff gets shamed...
I am embarrassed to realize the extent of my own ignorance regarding the Wahabi menace. As a lover of history and one who could draw a fairly accurate survey of the events that shaped the West during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, I was grievously unaware of the monstrous theology and murderous campaign of Ibn `Abd Al-Wahhab.One wonders how the terrors of the crusades could compare to the genocidal murder of "impure" Muslims by the fanatical armies of Wahab. One wonders still why the West fails to see the ever-present and growing threat posed by the Wahhabi poison which spans out from Saudi Arabia (our allies?) to infect Muslims around the world. This book is required reading for every American who feels the need to make some progress toward understanding why some Muslims cultivate hatred above all other "virtues."Want to know why supposedly godly people feel compelled to murder innocent women, children, and men?Want to understand why they have no difficulty murdering their own kinsmen and fellow Muslims? It's the poisonous Muslim heresy of Wahhabism.Where does it come from and how is it funded and propagated across the globe?Saudi Arabia is Hatred's Kingdom as Dore Gold has dubbed it.This book is a good starting place and a dreadful portent of things to come as long as Saudi Arabia is not held accountable. The Saudi mission to spread Wahhabism has been incredibly "successful" in Indonesia, Chechnya, Bosnia, America, and of course, Palestine where their PLO has become the center of a maelstrom of Islamic hatred. One stat that might be instructive for all those who think the extremists are a small minority is that 79% of Palestinian children state that they want to be suicide bombers when they grow up.It would seem the "extremists" are the few who want peace. If you think this is all an academic discussion for Americans consider that 70% of the Mosques in America teach the Wahhabi doctrine.Get this book and learn what those "friendly" neighborhood mosque-goers really think about you.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good start, weak finish
I found the historical chapters of the book (up until about 1960) to be most useful section. As we pass into King Fahd's reign, the reasoning becomes much more speculative.Nonetheless, the author presents a plausible scenario. Careful documentation of the links between the major players is useful, and however you slice it, the latter chapters show the razors' edge the political leaders of Saudi Arabia must walk.

1-0 out of 5 stars Politically driven with no real substance
I've read this book out of curiosity, but unfortunetely found it to be without real or factual substance and no objective conclusion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eaves dropping on the Ranger world
This is a fascinating look into the experiences of a Texas Ranger. I was born in Texas but had little idea what it meant to be a "Texas Ranger."Joaquin Jackson has written an incredibly truthful book that not only gives the reader a look into his Ranger world, but thrillingly allows us to peek into his conscience and eaves drop on his values system.
5-0 out of 5 stars Understanding the Texas Ranger
Joaquin Jackson provides an insightful excursion into the mind and deeds of a Texas Ranger. He does not attempt to aggrandize his labors, and expresses reasonable concern about how political agendas can and often do impede effective law enforcement. There are passages that were seemingly added by a technical writer (e.g., description of the terrain and historical points), which detract from the highly personal message that comes from the heart and soul of Ranger Jackson. As a professor who works with law enforcement, I increased my awareness of how the officer must be highly dedicated and willing to sacrifice personal gain for public service, as well as face a constant barrage of criticism from many sources and accept that threat to safety is a ever-present condition. This book is excellent for understanding the psychology of a Texas Ranger.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a life
One of the few biographys/autobiographys I've ever enjoyed. A rich tale of life in the Texas Big Bend country as seen through the keen eyes of a Texas Ranger. Filled with both tragic and humorous tales of life on the border and hilarious accounts of famous and infamous Rangers throughout history. I'm truly envious of a man who loves his profession as much as Jackson. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars An International Perspective on Foreign Legal Systems
"Comparative Criminal Justice Systems: a Topical Approach" is a study of a few foreign legal systems with a political approach and an "international perspective". According to the author, Phil L. Reichel, the goal of his book is to extend the reader's knowledge about other countries, their citizens and their cultures but most important to find ways to improve society; not only at a local but at a global level as well.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars You want this book
I've taken the basic exam, and did ok. Unfortunately military points, and other factors I wont get into here, okay is not enough. This book is the exam. The methods he recommends using involving making up your own stories to help with memory (something with sex usually works for me)has its advantages, although I think he overplays it in the book. I'm not completely through it, I still have mathematics left, but at this point I must say it is worth the money. And in my humble opinion, you get what you pay for, and more. However this is just 1 of 2 books with the words "Police Exam Prep" in the title that I bought, I'll let you know how the other one turns out.
