Showed me how to teach writing
I have taught 2nd grade for 5 years.The first three years my district did not have a "set" writing curriculum.We used 6-traits, but the structured limits of that way of thinking did not help make me a good writing teacher.Those three years I tried my best to teach writing with the limited experience of writing myself.Two years ago we addapted the Lucy Calkins series.These books have changed the way I see writing and how I teach it.

These books are excellent guides for both old and new teachers.They guide you through each genre of writing.They include lessons in their entirety and scripts, as well.

Repetitive at times but lots of enlightening information.
Some beginning parts of this book are a little repetitive, if you've been through a teacher credential program.However, I found lots of useful information that I definitely think can be incorporated into any curriculum.

Thought Provoking, Critical, Essential
With respect to some of the previous reviewers, I really don't think they have done justice to this book.I'll completely expose my inner geek and admit that curriculum design is fascinating to me, and add that I own a considerable number of books on the topic.I am particularly interested in differentiating curricula, and I purchase books about educational theory and classroom ideas the way other women purchase shoes--insatiably.I have constantly challenged myself to create personalized lessons with meaningful learning goals throughout my teaching career, but I will say that this book has definitely changed the way I view teaching and curricular design--and for the better.

Exceeded my expectations
This book changed the way I design my college level courses in a very effective and enjoyable way. It will give you a lot of insight on the design of courses that will encourage students to continue learning.I also enjoyed all the reference on the results of scientific work that deals with innovative teaching methods. Detailed ideas applied 2 work equals a new answer.
This book is worth it. I graduated from a graduate program (in education) and this information has increased/expanded my knowledge as to how things must be done in the classroom (when teaching, when testing, and when lecturing). For example, each square of information must be related to the other square of information in order to reach ones point with ones students. Education is about detail. Let this information from this book change the way you see and teach the information you have obtained a degree in. Let it take you to new spheres, or portals of information that were always present in the work that you do, but that you never saw because one lacked the tools in order to open up those worlds. Create beauty in the work that you create (in the quizzes, in the lesson plans, in the rubrics chart, in the surveys, etc.) What you lecture must be from the book, and what you assign for reading must mirror the lecture, and that equals learning.

Graduate student review of Program Evaluation
This book is used as a text book in my graduate class on evaluation in Instructional Technology. The book is clear, easy to understand, thorough and a good "primer" on evaluation.

This text surveys evaluation theory and practice in a manner that is easy to understand and teach.It's appropriate for undergraduate or graduate work in performance evaluation.The authors do an excellent job of reviewing the history and key literature.They also briefly explain popular methodologies and discuss different approaches, such as objective and holistic.The book includes case study material that highlights processes, advantages, drawbacks, and potential problems of evaluation efforts.The authors avoid consulting hype and focus on building the evaluation body of knowledge.An update with Fitzpatrick listed as the first author is now available and also is excellent.

if using for a graduate course
I really found that this text had enough case studies and information when used for my graduate course.It makes you see how you can apply the information to scenarios in the text and relate it to the educational system to enhance student learning.I recommend this text.

Little Detail
I have read many methods books over the past 4 years. This book was the initial text required in a methods class. I found it to be very poor in detail (especially for the preservice teacher). I finished the book wondering, "where are the specific how to's?" I felt that I wasn't prepared to go into a classroom to teach a lesson. We were all struggling in class.
Teachers are Pivotal for Learner-Centeredness to Occur
Finally... I found an author and educator who states the obvious. In order to be a successful teacher, one has to first understand oneself as a person - the positive and negative aspects of our personality and identity that impact our instruction. excellent book
I've read a lot of homeschooling books in planning for my children's education. This book is a parent's dream! It truly helps you plan from the bottom up, apply thought to aspects of homeschooling that are not considered by other books. It would be the first book I recommend to anyone if they are thinking about homeschooling, just starting homeschooling, or even have been homeschooling for a while and need a good curriculumteaching resource.
THE book I have been looking for as a beginner!
I've read a lot of homeschooling books in planning for my children's education and I learned something from each one, whether I liked the book or not! This book, however, is a planner's dream! This jewel caught my eye as I was browsing Barnes & Nobel.I winced at the price ($29.95) but while perusing the book my brain began filling with flashes of inspiration, creative neurons popped like fireworks, and I was hooked.Plus, it would look pretty on my book shelf.

Repeated Information
this book had a lot of information, but nothing that required an entire book to cover. there were a lot of "methods" and ideas to incorporate in the classroom, but the organization of the book made it cumbersome to follow the examples. If you are the type of learner who appreciates a ton of examples this would be a great reference.
