Another great title from Seth Lindstromberg!
Seth Lindstromberg has edited several excellent books of ideas for language teaching. This one is filled with brilliant ideas for teachingwriting, business English, and other areas, as well as some warm-upactivities. One thing I really like about his books is that instead ofmerely putting together a random collection of activities, he shows you howthe ideas can fit into your class, and be a part of one's own developmentas a teacher. As always, the author has done a great job in selecting somevery original and interesting ideas.

Excellent anthology of 110 activities for the EFL classroom.
33 experienced and creative EFL teachers from around the world have contributed to this anthology that contains most valuable teaching ideas for many areas of EFL, e.g. warm-ups, vocabulary, communicative activities, working with a coursebook in a different way, using magazines/newspapers/literature. Most activities are intended for use in classes of intermediate or advanced learners of English, but some (such as the 'warm-ups') are suitable for lower levels as well. In general, the activities involve students in pairwork or group work and challenge them to be 'active' and 'creative'. Ideas for rescue the arts
The best from this book is the idea to let the industry people to understand the importance of the arts for the job scenario. Mr. Fowler is very focused and well centered in his proposal. As an educator-artist, I have been talking about the same idea but few understand the point; the idea of pushing the arts and it's uniqueness to the academic structure can be a self destructive idea. Real world of student's minds
Always seems a bit arrogant when one claims to know "the real world of kid's minds."Also worth mentioning that "Understanding by Design" is really a modest variation of the behavioral approach to educational planning.That is:figure out what you can and will test for and then design instruction."Course Design" proceeds from considerations of content and learners.Assessment is not the first consideration in the planning process."Course Design" does incorporate brainstorming but the brainstorming is based on substantial content knowledge and grapples with what it means to understand content. Thus it is a book best used in planning to teach content area courses and units rather than skills.The real world of human minds is a world of ideas.Teachers need to grapple with issues that center on what ideas have power for their students, how do students learn and what does this suggest for how they might best be engaged in the teaching learning process.No book on how to "do" educational planning is perfect.I'd like teachers to have a book that engages them with substantial issues of content and what it means to understand rather than working backwards from "how am I going to test this stuff."

Add Depth to you Poetry Instruction
I used this book as a basis for starting a poetry study in my classroom of 4th graders.The information and ideas that Ms. Heard gives are fantastic. It helps you create an poetry friendly environment, not just a few lessons. My students responded whole-heartedly to the suggested activities.The heart map activity was one of their favorites.She gives advice on how to help children write from their hearts and access true emotion (as opposed to writing about surface feelings,"I like my Nintendo").This is the best poetry book for classroom instruction that I've found. Also, it is an easy and quick read. Excellent support for creating a vibrant poetry classroom

Substitute Teaching Survival Guide
This book has been a wonderful suppliment to my substitute teaching. The options are fabulous and I always take this book with me to every secondary subbing job I have. Also included in this book is a number of emergency lesson plans. I haven't needed them yet, but it's comforting knowing that they are available to me. Not exactly what I expected but still really good.
As with other Schaum's outlines, this one has lots of exercises for students to practice with. I was confused because I thought this book and Schaum's "theory and probs of english grammar" were different. In fact, they are the same (basically), but this one is simply an earlier edition...
