I got everthing I needed here
This has been money well spent,I am happy I got it and everyone who cant leave their car alone should own it. Not for the faint hearted or old fashioned fuel injection systems.

A good read, with a few shortcomings.
Overall this was a worthwhile book to read, especialy for someone like myself trying to learn a little more about engine tuning in general.I thought the author jumped around a bit on different topics, it could have flowed from one topic to another in a more logical order.There was also a bit of repetition, as though topics were pulled from previously written articles.I found the cases studies to be worthless - one or two would have sufficed.The font could also be a bit larger.Those nit pickings aside, I learned a great deal from this book, which was what I was hoping for.

Holy Cow Why Didn't I Find This Book Sooner?
I have a few books from the "Motorbooks Workshop" series and I am happy with all of them -in fact I'm kicking around the idea of building a library of them for myself, as they are all instant reference books full of valuable information. I could waste a weekend away just thumbing through them.

I Built One!
Great book, made the process straightforward and understandable. If you simply follow the steps in the book you will end up with a really good little sports car. If you also incorporate some information from Caroll Smith and Allen Staninforth's books you will have a car that will beat the pants off a Caterham.
This is the beginning
I know how to weld, cut metal design and tune suspensions from scratch adapt junk to something useful the list of things I can do seems endless sometimes. Before I got this book I could do none of these things THIS is the book that gave me the bug which bit me and inspired me to learn to do all these things and to search for knowledge online in books etc. It all began with this book. This book has forced me to take back all my sarcastic cynical remarks about actually building your own car when my wife bought this book for me. It is not a perfect book If it was I wouldnt have learned half of what I do now about suspensions etc since ford cortinas are not sold here But that is part of this books charm its hook is in getting you off your back side and into the pursuit of your own personal sports car. Its been a fantastic ride and I hope you buy a copy too

This book has everything you wanted to know about the Chevy Smallblock. It gets kinda wordy, and very technical for someone who just wants to play around. If you are serious about rebuilding the Chevy Smallblock perfectly then get this book

Nao espere muito deste livro
Se voce esta procurando um livro que ensine como montar um "gaiola" ou "dune bug", esqueca este livro. Ele fala muito sobre motor, freio, etc. Sobre a estrutura, ou "frame", so da algumas dicas de como procurar para comprar. Ridiculo ne !

Great for Beginners!
This books starts with laying out the steps needed to build a buggy from parts, including a list of tools and some idea of the time it will take to complete each step.Not all the choices he made will be the same as my project, but it did break it down in terms of what order things need to be assembled, and what sort of work would go into that.It helped convince my wife that the project was reasonable with the skills and tools I had.

Muy buen libro, simple, bién explicado, con buenas fotografías
Muy buen libro, refleja claridad de ideas y sus recomendaciones son de gran utilidad. A pesar de estar en idioma inglès, se entiende perfectamente. Las fotografías son las adecuadas para este tipo de libro y ayudan mucho. El autor hace recomendaciones de productos y herramientas necesarias para llevar a cabo los procedimientos descriptos. Me parece de lo mejor para llegar a reconstruir el motor del escarabajo. Bien redactado, aborda el tema sin caer en detalles superfluos. Lo recomiendo.

From a Porsche 914 Point Of View
My opinion of this very useful book is from a Porsche 914 perspective. This book is going to really cover the basics and give a good overview of what you're getting into. I really like the breakdown of the book and the photos. Yet, if the photos could be color it would be better - but the detail of the B&W give a fine detail of each step.Of course most 914 nuts are going to buy anything that will help them with any aspect of the 914. For a general book, I think it takes a good "how to" stand on each section of the engine rebuild.

This is a great one
Of all the vw books I own (a lot) this has been the most useful so far. I cant find the info for rebuilding an engine to stock condition anywhere else not even in the rightly fabled Bentley manuals. How To vs. Can Do
My purpose for ordering this book was to gain the knowledge of how to do this type of work.While the "how to" is limited, the advantage to me is to learn what can be done and this book covers this well.Overall, I am pleased that I ordered it.

This book paid for itself at page 3 and has continued to do so ever since. Why no 5 star rating well its because I cant afford some of the equipment and he provides no poor mans alternative.

good but old
This book was written in the early eighties, and it shows. There is some valuable information, but it is aimed at the sheet metal shaping world- for instance, how to put compound curves into metal.

the textbook on Bosch fuel injection
Written as a textbook and how-to. Good illustrations.Best when used with the Bosch factory manual

Very good book
I bought this book as a companion to my VW Vanagon book.Since I was new to fuel injection, and the Vanagon book had little/no troubleshooting information, I was completely stumped with fuel injection/ignition problems after a major overhaul of my '85 waterboxer engine.The Bosch book was a life saver. Not only did I (quickly) get my engine running, but I now understand how the whole thing works.Even for people who don't have Bosch systems and want to learn how fuel injection works, this is a good book.

Great book, but...
This is an excellent book detailing the theory of operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Bosch fuel injection systems. It covers in great detail all models of the Bosch systems. The modifing and tuning chapter is a bit lacking, though. It gives you some ideas about how to modify the system, but doesn't go into very much detail. The part I was most looking forward to reading about was recalibrating the air flow meter. The book only had three paragraphs on recalibration and didn't even touch on how to do it. TEXAS STATE OF MIND
Billy Gibbons Rock'n Roll Gearhead is really fantastic for all of those who love the Texas culture ... do you need something more?

DAt's what BFG say.The man is a GENIUS.This book is a fascinating read, and shines a whole new light on that little old band from Texas. I've always loved ZZ Top, but now I have a whole new respect for Billy Gibbons- the guy just oozes soul, is so understated yet so creative.This book shows how detail oriented, how creative, and how cool the man is.A great artist, a gearhead, and most importantly a genius on the gee-tar.Gotta love his life story.Buy it!

ZZ Top Fan Must Read!
If you are a ZZ Top fan,this book is a must read for you--it shows some of the private side of "The Reverend Billy G" and some of his passions on guitar and car collecting--although not really diving into the bands personna as much as I would have liked, seeing this side of one of Rocks "Major" influences was a very nice read---plus it is a nice bargain at Amazon--I was very pleased to get this book--I first saw this book at a guitar show in Orlando and when I was upset at myself for not buying it at the show I went to the Amazon site and purchased it for 15 bucks cheaper!Shazaaam!I had a friend of mine once tell me that before I buy any book to always check Amazon first--I guess she wasn't wrong--anyway--a really nice book that will draw much attention if left on a coffee table when guests are over-- ... Modern Automotive Technology
I read this book as part of a college class, I enjoyed the detail and step-by-step education it gave. The ASE Review questions and chapter review helped pin point areas that needed more study. Two negative points I should tell you about there is no answers to the review questions in this book and no NATF Outline for areas you need to know per (ASE) areas of knollege, (A1-A8). For a Basic to Mid Level education in Auto Mechanics this book covered what was needed. In this Day of buying alot of books to get an education. Buying one well rounded book Helped keep the money in my pocket.

Extremely well written book !
This is a very well written book. I bought the book after reading the entire build diary on the website and so did not have the disappointment of it not covering the chassis build. It puts a lot of perspective on the trials and tribulations of a kit car builder and how to think "outside the box" to solve the glitches that come up.
A great companion to Champion's
Nobody should buy any single book and expect it to answer every question they have.People planning to build a Locost should expect that they are going to be swimming on their own once in a while.Yes, this book doesn't show you how to build a chassis from scratch.It doesn't show you plans for mounting a Miata dif.It doesn't tell you a lot of things that you'll want to know.Champion's book is missing a lot of useful detail as well.No book is going to answer all your questions, which is why there are so many different books available for sale!Keith's book answers a lot of questions for me and gives me plenty of ideas that I'll use on my own build.I wish other builders would publish similar books - I'd buy them in a heartbeat!

Having chatted with Cliff previously via email, I was happily surprised that he had finally put his wisdom to paper.While it's clear when reading this book that he is a Pontiac fan, he does a good job on the Chevy, Buick, and Oldsmobile Quadrajets also.

solid rear axle only
This book is useless for anything other than info about setting up solid rear axle systems. everything else in this book is either incomplete or filled with editing errors. A whole book about chassis engineering etc that at no point whatsoever mentions Ackerman angle is unbelievable. Mr. Adams says that to find the C of G position is difficult so he doesnt tell us how he tells us to assume where it is based on other cars hhhmmm Then how come in race and rally car source book mr staniforth explains how in less than a page. Save your money or buy staniforths book and see how its really done

There are much better options
Despite the title, it's mainly focused on suspension design and tuning. It has some useful stuff, but nothing you can't find in many other books, and there are some basic errors on it.

Supercharged!
This book is really supercharged for those who are developing their own stuff. Filled with reasonably easy understood formulas to calculate the specifications and enginerequirements, this book makes things a lot easier instead of relying on guessworks. Great Book!

fantastic for most applications
This book was perfect when I wanted a basic introduction to the theory and practice of supercharging. It does re-use alot of material from his Turbocharging book but that is good because that book was fantastic as well.
Awesome Book
This is the first time I'm going to tune an engine.....I'm 39 and have a background in thermodynamics, electrical and mechanical design from operating nuclear power plants. Granted, I don't have an engineering degree, but have made all the calculations to properly size a supercharger for my Audi A8 4.2 liter motor.

Thunderbird Restoration Guide 1958-1966
Book pays to much attention to the "top of the line" Models.
Excellent starting point for the restorer
This book isn't a detailed step by step guide in the specifics of restoring an old T-bird but it does give the new Bird owner a good idea not only of what he or she has, but what it is worth.There is a lot of very good info on the history of the 58-66 T-birds as well as an excellent section on the rare M-Code T-birds of 62-63. This is THE book if you are in the process of restoring a 1958 - 1966 Thunderbird. This book goes into every detail. I mean, they even give thespecifications of the M390 engine, right down to the cam lift andduration! This book goes into more fine details about the classic 4 seatTbirds then any other book I have ever read. This is a must have if you areeven thinking about buying or restoringone of these classics. It haschapters for every year from 58 - 66, and talks about every model for everyyear. Such cars as the 62 and 63 Sports Roadster, the Princess MonacoLandau, the 65 "Special Landau", and the 1960 sun roof are evenincluded. For vocational school students
Using many diagrams and a utilitarian style, this book aims to train future mechanics. No chances are taken ("inverted" is defined) and no fact is too obvious (dipsticks are explained). The authors struggle with the science: the two contradictory conventions for depicting current flow are explained as an ongoing scientific controversy; engine oils are "distillated".
