5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I've learned more then I could of imagined from this book. I've read it twice, and I'm starting on it again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally,a real step-by-step guide to restoring ANY car.
What a great book.A colour book on restoring a car and its a step by step guide. Finally a book that deserves to be called a step by step guide. This book is an ideal restoration manualsuitable for all cars so no matter what car you want to restore this book is the way to go.Colour photos show what to do.This book covers so much and each section is covered in great detail. Its great value for the price alone and for what it offers.
5-0 out of 5 stars Worthy of owning!!
Really nice restoration book! I have a 68 Charger R/T and look forward to starting the resto using this book as a guide. While no book could cover every obsticle you may encounter, this book gives a very good idea of what you will face and how to fix it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Ford V8 "Pushrod" Engine Book
Pat's book takes us through the "modern" pushrod V8s of small and big block Ford engines. It starts with a discussion of the Windsor small blocks from 289-351W with mentions of the 260, though this section focuses on the "6-bolt" bellhousing SBFs.
5-0 out of 5 stars For those who can read
I read the book, many times. One must remember all things start in some type of begining, as this book does. No matter if you are working on a 1954 Ford or a late model 5.0 all things in the bottom end are the pretty much the same. For those that worry about aluminum heads, well, why are GT-40's from Ford cast iron?4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book covering Windsors, Clevelands, FE's, & Limas
If you are building one of the above engines for the first time this is a must have book that teaches you the basic tricks you need.Another reviewer unfairly blamed the book for not covering the new 4.6L engines. It only says on the cover exactly what engines are covered, duh!So, ignore his comments and buy Too Tall Ganahl's book with confidence. The only thing I would have liked to have seen are a casting number list, otherwise an outstanding book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Answered Lots of Questions
This book answered alot of questions I had when I painted my hot rod. The book is written in a very easy to understand, no nonsense style. It does not waste space on things you don't need. I especially liked the troubleshooting chapter. That came in very handy. One thing that helped is that there are plenty of pictures. There is a photo for every step of each technique. You can really see how it is done. If you are looking to get a tool that will make it easy to do any kind of custom paint work, this is the book for you. It covers flames, tribal graphics, even airbrush artwork. It tells the tools and materials you need for each each kind of artwork. Best $16.00 I ever spent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love the Real Fire Flame Tech
I saw the cover car at a GoodGuys Car Show and then saw this book. So I bought it and all I can say is wow. It was amazing to see the process of how the real flames were painted. She takes you through the whole thing, from start to finish. The story of how she came to paint these flames is pretty funny even. The rest of the book is also great. The author JoAnn really goes into detail explaining all the techniques, from traditional flames to graphics. I really liked the wide variety of techniques she goes through in this book. There's a chapter on painting pinup girls that really blew me away. I can now mix up skin tone and paint people after reading that chapter. There are good explanations of the tools used, airbrushes and spray guns. It was very easy to understand and you don't need to be an experienced painter to use this book. I am a beginner and I could follow the lessons in it. But my favorote was the real fire process. The photo on the cover does not really show how incredible this car looks in real life. Some of the photos inside the book show the car more accurately, but the depth of the flame layers is unreal. If you want to paint real flames, check out this book. I do have another of JoAnn's books and thought that one was good, but this one goes over things that the first one does not. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sc/Tc and NO2 a must
A great book, the author(s) did a wonderful job of describing information and kept it from being too complex. Examples given for real world understanding... very recommended

5-0 out of 5 stars what you need
this book has all you need to know about turbochargers, superchargers, and nos. I also suggest giant spoiler, loud exhaust, and fast driving. this has all you need to give your car the extra little horsepower you need to push minivans into the road to be run over, or to get a few more mpg. good buy

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Solid Information
Yes, at one time a cover for this book was incorrectly displayed on this site, however, the one showing is what you will get. At any rate, there is an old saying that you "don't judge a book by its cover" and any serious performance enthusiast will understand that. The contents of any book are what count. If you are looking for information to help you differentiate between superchargers and turbochargers and the various types of nitrous oxide applications, along with other information on systems to help you make a knowledgable choice, this book will be of great value to you. It has a large amount of in-depth information for those already familiar with these applications, but was also written to aid newcomers to the field. In addition, any good mechanic also understands that information is not "make and model" specific when it comes to theory, production of boost and horsepower, staving off detonation, and gaining the most from your vehicle for what your budget and ability can handle. This is a great reference book for learning about these particular applications, and no matter whether you are a Chevy, Ford or Toyota enthuisiast, principles of producing horsepower remain the same! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of pictures and details.
This book offers a very good overview of a complete restoration job for a 1969 Corvette. Unfortunately, the type of Corvette used is not specified in the title or on the cover, and you'd never guess, since on the cover there's a picture of a Sting Ray and a C4. I won't complain too much, since I have a 1968 and am in luck, but it might be a disappointment for others. Other that that, the book is great, it gets you off to a great start, it's not a NCRS level reference, but for a amateur mechanic who's looking to fix up his vette, it does more than a good job. It's also good at recommending the tools and materials as well as pointing to other references that might help you accomplish a specific task. They are also doing a frame off resto, so the pictures are great, as they were taken from angles you'd never get when you're doing a frame on resto. It could go a little more into detail for a inexpirienced mechanic, but I noticed that books like those are pretty much impossible to find. You just have to pay the dues and learn the basics yourself. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Heavy on math but lots of useful info
This book is all that it promises - if you are unsatisfied with the explanations given for handling behavior in "consumer-level" handling books you won't be disappointed. On the other hand, if you aren't an engineer you might want to review your college math textbooks to get through some of the explanations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great engineering and vehicle dynamics book!
Great book, kind of in the same category as "Race Car Vehicle Dynamics," but without such a racing orientation.Great explanation on the dynamics of tires.Slip angles, where tire judder comes from, and the like. Can get pretty mathematical in it's explanations, but since that was what I was looking for (mathematics explains everything) that part was fine.It has a great explanation of roll centers, withe the accompaning diagrams of jacking and the forces and their directions.Really helped me understand that complex subject.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good general knowledge provided
Maximum Muscle is the story of Detroit's high powered muscle and pony cars whose direct design and implementations were borne out of the need to win races. The book takes a general look at how cars such as the Boss 302, Dodge Charger Daytona and others came to be and how successful they were in their respective series. There is some good general knowledge provided about these cars and their development (including the failures such as Pontiac's attempt to enter the Trans-Am series in '69 with their 303 block) as well as the race series they performed in (NASCAR, SCCA Trans-Am series, etc). The author separated the chapters into the different racing series with a chronological view of who did what when and how and included sections on Indy Pace Cars, dealer specific cars and the current state of muscle/pony cars.As mentioned earlier the book does give a good general look at what happened but I found the book does suffer from a lack of detail. Most of the information provided can be considered general knowledge for many automotive enthusiasts interested in that era (i.e. why the Hemi was brought back, why AMC was so successful in the '70-'72 Trans-Am series, etc).I do not mean to bemoan this book as it did a very competent job of providing all the necessary facts.I just expected more thorough detail.Overall the book was well written and gives the reader enough information about an exciting time in racing. If you want more information and detail however, you will need to look at other books that deal with specific manufacturers (such as Phil Hall's "Fearsome Fords: 1959-1973" and Larry Mitchell's "AMC Muscle Cars"). ... 5-0 out of 5 stars what I can do myself
the best book I have found for the backyard do it yourself type corvette owner, very helpfull.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the investment for C4 owners.
This is a good supplementary book to a Chilton's, Haynes, or Helm if you are a novice mechanic. It breaks simpler projects down in really simple terms and pictures for a first time mechanic or even a first time corvette owner.I think most of the information contained can be found on the internet or on forums, but the nice part is having it at your finger tips.It references instructions for quite a few jobs quite well...but for the complicated jobs it pretty much just tells you to take the car to your mechanic(steering wheel mounted blinker/highbeam failure)Overall this is a good supplementary book to owning a C4 Corvette and well worth the money. It's a great fingertip reference and a good general maintenance reference too.It tells you about the cheaper performance modifications and what REALLY works and what doesn't and what is appropriate for the associate expense. If you have a C4 and are new to Corvette ownership I'd say this is a must buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you have a C4 you need this book!
When I got my C4 I read all the Vette mags and ads that told me "just add this miracle part and it will increase your horsepower by 200%".

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful
I got a lot of useful suspension and brake tips from this book but as someone else pointed out the parts and cars mentioned may not be available in your country. I got what I needed and would buy it again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Close, but could be better
Add it to your collection, however, it has it's shortcomings. The author is defintly knowledgeable about his subject, however the presentation of the material could be better. The book reads like a compilation of magazine articles at times. If you have a good collection of VW Trends & Hot VW's magazines, you probably don't need this book. The author is also from the UK, so there are references to items, that if you are in the USA, may not be practical (i.e. brakes from a Horizon Talbot or something like that). He presents alot of options on various topics, but never really tells you what product "in reality" is the best (pros/cons).He also does not really get into true suspension tuning.Things are left pretty loose (i.e. adding an anti-sway bar will improve handling)....Well, as a race driver myself I could disagree with this statement in certain cases. He does not outline, basic vehicle dynamics tunings.Example:He does not say that Stiffening the rear of the car increases oversteer, and stiffing the front increases understeer.Let alone define under/over steer. The affect of tire pressures, alignment, etc. These TRUELY "tuning for High-Performance" items are either left out or glossed over.4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Start
As the first book written about volkswagen suspension,(that I know of), it has a lot of good information; I was however, a little dissapionted in the way the information was presented, it is sometimes hard to find what you want without having to read a whole chapter. I was looking for a comprehensive book that included setups for racing, including formula-vee, and this book is geared more towards just street applications. good info on brakes. A must buy if you want to modify your susp., but I'm hoping for a better second edition. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A lucid how and why explanation of a revolutionary managerial approach.
Monden's book on the Toyota Management System emphasizes that the productivity of Toyota is not the result of any single factor like just-in-time manufacturing or total quality control, but a synergy of new thinking in many different areas: financial management; costing; functional organization; production management; product development management; international strategy; personnel management etc.

2-0 out of 5 stars very little info here
i purchased this book thinking it would provide me correct info on my 1967 442 but found out it contained very little usable information . I am trying to do a correct restoration on my car and found only a few pages on my model year with a few black and white photos of no great use . You can use the internet to decipher your cowl tag for free if that is what you are looking to do
