2-0 out of 5 stars how to paint your car
Typical over load on words pertaining to auto body shop repairs and prep for painting,"but lacks in information on painting a car. Out of 159 pages of print there is only 6 pages that actually decscribes anything that ressembles painting. I wish i had known this before i wasted my money. I would not recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The complete guide to painting your car.
Firstly,I noticed that there was an earlier edition of this book.Be sure you get the "Motorbooks Workshop" series version.

3-0 out of 5 stars A useful collection of information, but nothing special
This book collects a lot of basic information in one place. I didn't discover much, though, that couldn't be found just by purchasing some detailing products at your local auto store and reading the packages. A nice introductory guide to detailing, but not much more than common sense.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beginner's Guide
Great intro to auto detailing, primarily for shade tree and driveway detailers. Technique, equipment and chemical suggestions are all first rate and affordable.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not so complete.
I found the book to be a good general guide for a beginning home detailer. As a car enthusiasts, many of my questions were not answered.I also feel that product and tool recommendations are outdated. The book is well-written and easy to read.A good start for beginners ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars H 2 brute'?
This more like a high school paper gone wrong than a serious book for adults. Typical of the nonsense circulating around lately regarding Hydrogen as an alternate fuel.Poor science, terrible reading......Does not factually deal with the real issues such as cost of distribution, storage and gasification. An insult to any reader with a brain.

3-0 out of 5 stars what the Hydrogen Revolution is about
This book has been in publication since 1985?That is quite impressive that he started thinking about this stuff way back then.I can't believe all the negative feedback and this book is in it's 11th edition. If there are so many errors and everyone has the time to write about it here don't you think you could send the author a little note?Like "Hey Mikey, photovoltaic cells are made of silicon and implants are made of Silicone."The book is good as a rough start, I'll admit it has been very helpful to me - a professional engineer.Yes the facts and calculations need to be checked but what facts and calculations don't need to be checked? The web sites out there dealing with this stuff are either so simple that a 5 year old could understand or so in-depth that only someone very familiar with the technology could understand the tradeoffs. This book does a great job at bridging those gaps. With that said, good Job Mikey and to everyone else - if you don't like something fix it, or shut up that's what the Hydrogen Revolution is about people fixing something they don't like.

3-0 out of 5 stars Acutally not that great
It's really only for the beginner, it gives general information on everything related to the Civic, even custom paintjobs. 4-0 out of 5 stars good startup book for those with a honda and an itch to mod
book focuses mostly on basic suspension theory and NA performance, as well as a quick glance at on how to mod your car visualy4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good actually
This book would help you to get to know your honda civic engine even more. Good book for beginners. It would tell you which mods are worth buying or not and what kind of power to expect. It tells you what kind of HP gains you can expect from your engine when modified from "don't even bother" to "mild" to the "best". The only thing I think it didn't cover is the auto tranny which some has... it mostly concentrated on the D16Z6 SOHC and B16A DOHC Si engines and manual tranny. All in all get this book if you wanna learn more about civics and it would help you get on the right track. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great book if you are rebuilding an old block out of an old car with original parts
Great book if you are rebuilding an old block out of an old car with original parts. Lots of basic info. Apart from the basics, this book is useless if you are (re)building an engine using new and modern performance parts for a hot rod or kit car. Then again, the book is 22 years old. Missing were Torque tables and how to basically tune the engine and the carb for the breaking in milage. Not much point having the engine professionally tuned or dynoed if the engine is not yet broken in, you have to do it again after a few 1000 miles.

5-0 out of 5 stars don't start without this book!
I rebuilt my first engine, a 390 FE, with this book.It is worth it's weight in GOLD.From pulling the engine to bolting it all back in and turning the key, it's all covered here.Rebuilds are surprizingly easy and the satisfaction of doing yourself is the best reward.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a very in depth book
This book is very in depth and informative. The previous comment must be from hate or maybe jealousy as I have reviewed many parts books and contacted many supply houses for this kind of info with out a clear understanding. Most refered me to this book and I am ever so thankful to them and the writer for making it easy to understand.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Introduction to Hot Rodding Small Blocks
This book covers all aspects of increasing the performance of your small block Mopar.Simple hop ups to full blown race ready engine modifications are covered in this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars PERFORMANCE ORIENTED.Read this quote from introduction:
This book seems good for PERFORMANCE rebuilds. But if you're just learning about rebuilding engines, follow the books advice, and start elsewhere. Here's a quote from the book's introduction:"[This book] was written with the performance enthusiast in mind, and contains large amounts of information generated by Chrysler's internal research and development engineers. This book was also written with the assumption that the reader is already familiar with general overhaul, disassembly and assembly practices, especially those peculiar to the Chrysler A engine.Complete standards and techniques for these engines in stock form can be found in HPBooks' HOW TO REBUILD YOUR SMALL-BLOCK MOPAR and in the Chrysler factory service manual for your particular engine. For factory manuals write:Chrysler Service Publications, 20026 Progress Drive, Strongville, Ohio, 44136.This book begins where those two books end--and that is on how to build a high-performance Chrysler small-block--very high-performance."

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference for building a performance Mopar
I'm not quite sure what other reviewers read, but this is not a book for standard rebuilds. This covers performance work only, and would not be a guide for the first-timer. It contains info on building up circle-track,drag, and street/strip cars, with general advice and specific part numberand machining spec's.The book is written with a heavy factory-slant, asmany of the parts and suggestions concern Mopar-sold parts. There's nothingwrong with that, as a lot of fast Chryslers run Mopar-brand equipment. Thethank-you list in the front reads like a who's- who of Chrysler racinghistory, and some of them work at Chrysler to this day, so this isn't someguy out in left field telling you to slap a 800 CFM carb on your 1978 LeanBurn 318 and go Corvette hunting- he and his advisors know small blockChryslers better than almost anybody else I can think of. I've known orworked with several of them, and they've turned out an impressive pile offast engines over the years. This book is well worth the $15 investment, considering the money you'll dump into a good motor ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars All right for LS1 novices
First off this book is very basic. The author reveiles some performance combos that can be beneficial to the novice crowd, but for anyone has researched the great gen. III small block, this book is a too redundant. My advice to anyone who wants to learn more about the LS1 should look it up online for free.2-0 out of 5 stars Chevy LS1/LS6 Performance....misses the mark.
The Third Generation, Chevrolet Small-Block V8 was introduced as the LS1 in the 1997 Corvette. A slightly different version came in the 1998 Camaro Z28. Light-truck versions arrived in 1999 and 2000 and, in late 2000, a special high-performance variant, LS6, appeared in 2001 Corvette Z06es. 4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the weekend hobbyist
This book takes you well through the ins and outs of the Gen. III small block. While the technical detail is a little lacking, it perfectly complements the standard skills and comprehension levels of the average weekend racer. I'd recommend this book for anyone contemplating a modification to this superlative power plant. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A reasonable book to start with.
This book has been around a lot longer than most books. It does offer a lot.A good guide from inspection of your engine to assembly, installation and tune up.Tom Monroe writes in an easy to understand way.His books are helpful so you wont be wasting your money.Plenty of information throughout make this a reasonable book despite its age.The 351C isnt included in this book.
1-0 out of 5 stars Good book if you are not ACTUALLY rebuilding an engine
This book has some good information. When it comes to the valvetrain portion of the rebuild section, the information contained in this book is perilously incorrect.Following the instructions contained in this book will ensure the speedy failure of your valvetrain. If you have $2500 to throw away, I recommend buying this book and doing everything it says.I gave the book 1 star because that is the minimum possible on Amazon.com.Tom Monroe has written several books on this subject with differing and conflicting information. He should try to write one book that tells you how to do the job correctly and find an editor who can eliminate the plethera of spelling and grammatical errors that rittle his work.
4-0 out of 5 stars Clevland
The 351C is a small block, every book that I have ever read has always referred to the 351C as a small block.Granted it is a "special" engine but is still in the small block family. But this doesn't really help people figure out if they want the book or not so you should have left it at, "This book does not include the 351C." ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The best car audio book I have purchased
This is the best book on car audio I have purchased or even read. I highly recommend it to anyone building a system or just replacing a head unit. It is well written, yes it does get rather detailed about things, but that is what I was looking for. Thanks Mr Yoder, Cliff "Cyclops" Bryant

1-0 out of 5 stars No stars for auto audio
I would rate this book at 0 stars if I could, but 1 star is the minimum. Just think about the fact that this book has an infinite number of pages which narrate the history of car audio, the first amplifiers and how they worked, the first transistors, bla bla bla. - All of this without explaining some usefull information such as wire connections, amp channel manipulation, etc. I bought this book but I was very disappointed. I read a lot of books about auto audio, and I must say that this book is not usefull at all, especially to beginners. Dont repeat my mistake by buying this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth its money... and more!
Believe me when I tell you I was a complete novice where auto audio is concerned. While I have setup several home systems, I have always got all of my cars' systems professionally installed, with the shop providing recommendations on what to buy, etc. I had no real understanding of amps, pre-amps, cross-vers, impedance, etc.I didn't even know what speaker specifications to look for.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A real insight to Trans-Am racing
I saw this book last weekend at a Vintage Race being held ther by HSR-West and figured it would be a great collectos item. But it is a lot more than that; it is a real insight to the trials and tribulations of racing and race car development. Donohuecomes out as a very humble driverand he is not afraid to admit his mistakes and thatof the team. This is a book that you don;t to put down but you also don;t want to be finished with it. I did see Mark Donohue at one of the Riverside Trans-Ams in 1968. I was always wondering what really happened at the end of the 69season to makePenske swith to that AMC junk and now I know.. Do not miss this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the great racing tomes
This book is easily one of the best narratives about racing I've ever come across. It is a personal and honest account of the late Mark Donahue's racing career from his impromptu start to the zenith of his career in Formula 1, Indy Racing, and Can Am to his retirement.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Own Classic
There are very few motorsports books extant that can be called true classics or world-changers. This is one of them, and it's one of the best on top of that. Mark Donahue was an extrordinary individual, not only a blindingly fast driver, but also a talented, disciplined, and most importantly, curious engineer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spectacular technical overview of automotive engineering
I recently submitted my resume for a management position at an automotive repair tech school, and a friend of mine told me I needed this book. He was right. I'm an EE and I know vaguely how cars work, but I never needed to go much beyond a high-school grasp of four-stroke engines.

4-0 out of 5 stars Oldie but Goody
Hugh MacInnes was a first-rate automotive engineer and car guy who had "been there, done that" with turbochargers and turbo projects, and this book is packed with good stuff about all kinds of turbochargers and turbo engines. There is even interesting stuff in here about turbo aircraft, two-strokes, and much more. There is also some nice turbo history, and it is interesting to see the return in modern times of older ideas--like water-cooled turbos and ball-bearings.Anyone who is really interested in automotive technology will enjoy this book.Keep in mind, it was last updated a long time ago (late 80's?), so there is too much about carburetors and too little about elecronic fuel injection and engine managemant. But for real gearheads that won't matter:Have we lost all interest in steam locomotives because there are now diesels?I think not.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelent!!
Excelente book!! Very useful for that who have old turbocharged engines. Excelente print quality also.
