Good for beginners
This is a great book. It covers all of the basics of engine management. The book is well written and easy to understand. He also has reviews of various types of engine management systems like the AEM EMS, GEN7, and FAST. My only dissapointment is that he does not actually explain how to tune fuel and ignition maps, which would make this book complete. It's still a very valuable book to have.
Great subject matter but too many technical errors.Sorry, but his book's a looser
Amongst automotive do-it-yourselfers, a pressing need exists for basic information on electronic fuel injection (EFI). In addition, the proliferation of aftermarket EFI systems intended for DIY installation has created a need for a "buyer's guide" covering the many, different EFI packages available to enthusiasts.
Book for beginners only.....
I was extremely disappointment when I received this book. On the cover it said "modifying fuel & ignition maps" however; it doesn't even scratch the surface on how to tune a vehicle. Excellent book for beginers!!!!
This book is really detailed out to everything from the setup of your equipment to spraying kandies!!

Fantastic...
This is a great book for people who want to learn about show car custom painting.I like the fact how much the book talks about spray booth setup and safety issue.Personally, I would like to see more about the spray gun technology section as well.I need a little more depth about different guns features and capabilities.Jon did mention a few of the guns but not detail enough, as least for me.I also like how the book take you through the entire painting process step by step from body work to lay down the final coat.It's amazing how much is involve.One more section I was hoping to see is how to paint the under carriage for normal day to day driving cars.It would be nice to see how to prep and paint rust proof coating.I guess that might be out of the scoop for the subject of this book.All in all, I do like this book very much. ... Good intro to advanced composites
There aren't too many good books on the fabrication and repair of structures that use high modulus fibers like Carbon and Kevlar, modern core materials, and high performance resins.While this British title "goes on a bit" and is not for the illiterate, it does an excellent job of walking you through the process of building and repairing parts that would not be out of place on any track in the country.It will also be useful to airplane and boat builders.

Good book on composites for any home-workshop application
This is a great book for learning about working with composites out of the home workshop whatever you're doing. Although the title of the book is "Competition Car Composites," only the last chapter deals specifically with the auto racing field. The book is broken down into chapters dealing with the materials used in composites, the tools and equipment, the methods, etc. There is also a chapter that talks about the equipment available to industry and professionals.

Definetly a Practical Guide
Simon McBeaths book clearly explains the different fabrics and outlines the equipment and procedures to start experimenting with composites yourself.The equipment assumes you are working out of the home shop, though there is a chapter on expensive industrial techniques.The book is a little on the wordy side for quick reference when working on a project. ... Just right for the beginner
This is an excellent resource for the 1st time engine builder and clearly differentiates blue printing from rebuilding.Don't expect to read this book and understand everything needed to properly rebuild an engine. However, combine this book with "How To Rebuild Your Small Block Chevy" by David Vizard.

A good overview, but more meat please!
This book gives a good overview on common tools and practices in blueprinting an engine but lacks fine detail. Certain machine practices the author just mentions and then states to have your machinist do this. Hello? I bought this book to do the stuff myself and save $$.
This book has to be on your workbench!!
We just bought the updated version of this book to go with our almost worn-out original copy. Hands down, the best book on learning the correct procedures for blueprinting an engine, not just rebuilding it. Anyone who desires to understand the how's and why's of setting up their engine correctly will want to have this book on their workbench. The material is easy to read, pictures are descriptive, and the author makes the understanding of complicated procedures easy to understand. Read more

Not worth the excitement
I eagerly awaited the release of this book.Unfortunately, it did very little to live up to expectations.The book LS1 has much better advise and guidance if you are looking for knowledge in support of your 'mod' appetite.

Another Great Book
Newton has written some outstanding Corvette books over the years. This book on the C5 continues that tradition. He gives us good honest advise about the things we can do to make our Corvette experiences enjoyable.
A Great Book
This is a great book for the C5 owner. The information is honest and helpful. Corvette magazines give people a totally false picture about C5 performance. This book tells you what you can expect from a modification and how much your performance can be improved. This book can save you a bunch of money.

Well worth a look
This book has proven to be an excellent resource for facts and information on the E30 3 series. The detail is exquisite. It has proven indespensible during the build up of my first BMW. If you are interested in the vintage three, you need this book. Although written by a Brit, the U.S. cars are represented well.

better than the haynes manual

Helpful information...
The book is pretty good. A lot of help if you are a novice, wanting to do a swap on your Honda and not sure what steps will need to be taken. I personally am satisfied. I used this book a couple times to help friends with engine choices for their cars and even helped me out when I did a D16Z6 swap in a 91 Civic DX.
For FI cars only
Disappointing.Says is covers '84 on, but nothing on pre-'88 carb cars, other than a mention that they're orphans.Better advice on the Web for carbed cars.Disappointing.

Great book for both novice and pro readers!
I am a novice when it comes to engines and cars, but I can understand this book very well! And it will be one of the main things helping me out when I swap a new engine into my CRX!This book really does cover just about every swap imaginable into any chasis...Even gives u great advice on what not to do, such as swaping out a V6 Accord for an inline 4, or trying to swap a fuel injected engine into a carbed chasis... It dosnt go really into detail on the wiring, no schematics, but with the broad options on engines and ECUs, I can certainly understand why, it tells you which service manual you will need to find those in tho, it dosnt leave you hanging there... It also gives u a broad idea of whats in store labor wise, what parts you will need, what you will need to wire (dosnt show exactly where tho), shows u where to get the engine mounts, sub-harnesses, and other parts you will need along the way, and from which cars... Really a great book and I highly reccomend it to anyone who is thinking of doing a swap into their Honda/Acura! ... Read more

An Excellent How-To Manual
I found David Shelby's Camaro book to be an excellent tool for upgrading and modifying my 1990 Camaro Z-28. The articles are extremely detailed and although some may be out of my price range, it has given me additional ideas on how to upgrade my car. I also have the book by Jason Scott and it is good too, but Shelby's book is obviously written from hands-on experience.

Not as good as I expected
The book has very basic information, just giving explainations of how the car's systems work. It does a good job of explaining the differences between stock and aftermarket parts. But, if you are looking for serious modifications and step-by-step procedures you will be disappointed.

Very Comprehensive, Best F-body Book Available
Found out that the author was a former editor of All Chevy and Super Chevy magazines, not just a Camaro enthusiast. The information is VERY detailed, including camshaft recomendations that are NOT generic. The chapter on PROM chips and performance tuning is very helpful in properly tuning TPI equipped F-body Camaros. The car on the cover is well known in the serious '82-92 Camaro community. Very good basic info
Written a few years before the rebirth of the flathead in street rodding, this book has lots of good basic info to help you rebuild your flathead, or just have an idea of what will happen when you send it out.Not a lot of info on modifying the flathead, better to look for another book for that.Good info, and complete. ... just what I needed
I am in the process of rebuilding two 1966 Chevy cars and
Pretty good but not great.
I'm doing a partial rebuild on my 454.I picked up this book because I know next to nothing about rebuilding motors.This book gives a pretty thorough walk-through, beginning with removing the block, stripping it down, taking it to the machine shop and reassembling it. Quality content orderly presented without leaving out detail
Wilson's book presents a step by step how to rebuild your BBC without being an "upscale" list of bullet points.His presentation, while perhaps a bit grammatically insensitive, appeals to people who won'tmind getting their hands dirty taking on their own rebuild project.Irecommend Tom's book for anyone considering a rebuild of their Big BlockChevy.You won't find hot rodding performance tips here, but you'll comeaway with all the practical knowledge needed to work through it on yourown.The one piece of advice I'd add to the book is that you use an oilpump primer to spin up your oil pump before first starting your newlyrebuilt motor. ... Pure Genius!
Another truely sensational book!
Good in-depth instruction on building your car PC plus apps
This book takes you through building a car PC, using the VIA EPIA Mini-ITX series of motherboards. The case for putting a PC in your car is becoming increasingly compelling with the demands of the modern driver. As well as "infotainment" applications - keeping the kids amused on long journeys, occupying passengers in traffic jams, providing music and rich media for all passengers etc, there are also a great many more "serious" applications such as navigation and route planning, avoiding traffic jams and so called - "telematics" where in-car communications and car computing are fused seamlessly into a single solution.
Great information, but the review on here is not correct.
The book has some really good information.It goes in depth in every aspect of building a car computer.The only thing I am mad about is that on this site, it says that it shows you how to set up automated air and heating, and ultra sophisticated security system.

The All-American Hot Rod: The Cars, The Legends, The Passion
This is one of the best books written about Hot Rods, it is throughly well written. It has everything you ever what to know about the Hot Rod. It has beautiful detailed illustrations and also the best pictures of the Hot Rod's. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in everything you would want to know about the American Hot Rod.

The Real Deal !!!
Having been a Hot Rod fanatic for over 40 years I have collected my fair share of books and every thing else on Hot Rods and this is by far the best compalation of the history of "REAL" Hot Rods.

MY HIGHEST RECOMENDATION

Great book for 1984-1999 Honda/Acura owners
There is no better book for 1984-1999 Hondas and Acuras.If you have a newer car, I also just bought ANcas' new book (same title, second edition) which is in FULL COLOR and covers 1999-2005 cars, including a special section just for RSX and S2000.But if you have an older Honda or Acura, this is the book for you

Disappointment is an understatement
Let me start by saying this: if you are an early Civic (late-'80s through early '90s) or CRX owner, you will probably get some use out of this book.If you are not, however, YOU WON'T.Much of the focus of the book is contributed to older, single-slammer engines like those found in older Hondas.There is extremely little information about DOHC, B-series, or VTEC motors in general.I'm not saying that the information in the book is wrong or useless, but I think calling giving this book an all-encompassing title like Honda & Acura Performance gives the false impression that late-model Honda enthusiasts like me (I own a '97 GS-R) will find useful information.They won't.Also, it becomes obvious that this guy is probably on the payroll of only a couple companies, because he uses their parts as examples over and over again. Mike Ancas' Honda and Acura Performance Handbook is an excellent introduction to Honda/Acura performance mods.This is not a how-to book, but rather a great introduction to the types of modifications, what works, and what may be a waste of money.I like the fact that the author points out the importance of considering the sum of the parts of each system when upgrading as opposed to just bolting on certain brand name parts and expecting serious performance increases.I would highly recommend this book as a great beginning to anyone just starting out. ...
