1-0 out of 5 stars Good book to have, but crappy otherwise
THis book is replete with errors. Beware! Don't think what's in this book is gospel. If you get it, get it for the factory documentation that is reprinted in there.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for a restoration of a 1964-1972 Olds
This book provides answers to tricky questions. It breaks down option lists, VIN tags, Specifications for 1964-1972 Olds & W-machines. Book contains spotter tips for certain models of Oldsmobile's and has many excellent B&W photos. Also has copies of various build sheets and dealer sales brochures. 4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not a how-to book
This is a great book with lots of historical info, but I was hoping for more of a how-to guide on maintenance and restoration. This book is perfect to determine if a car for sale is factory original. In my case,I've already got the car, I need to know how to keep it going.Maybe I'llget lucky with an out of print shop manual? ... 1-0 out of 5 stars A BIG (BLOCK) DISAPPOINTMENT
Well one of the other reviewers is 100percent right. While full of technical info, the book is WAY OUTDATED.Many of the GM parts listed are no longer available, there is no mention of GM Perforamnce Parts engines, or the GEN V and GEN VI big blocks since this book was written in the 70's, and as mentioned by someone else here, claims aftermarket parts are usually inferior. Not true today. The book should be updated at a minimum. A nice read if you are restoring an old Vette or Chevy. But if you are looking to build a modern big block, look elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic motorhead must!!!
This book is the best engine building bible to live by for early big block Chevy fans. You must understand and appreciate how people built up engines in the "early days" to really see why people do it the way they do today. The information might be outdated to some, but truely valuable to others (pertaining mostly to classic engines). If you have a sixties or early seventies big block Chevy, then this would be the book for you. This book today might be called "How to Build Durable Big Block Performance".It really goes in depth with early big block engine specs., cylinder head upgrading, a great section on carbs., and wonderful photos of these early motors with awesome tips.If you are building a Ram Jet ZL1 454 fuel injected big block, then this book would be too outdated for you.But if like me you have a 1969 original Chevy C20 with a stock 396 and are looking for durable street performance, (not racing performance) this book is for you!

2-0 out of 5 stars This Book Is Outdated!
I purchased this book to use as a guide for my first big block hot rod build up.What I have is a huge disappointment. This book is very old and outdated, and most of the points do not make any sense. It continually says that aftermarket parts are inferior to GM parts.Plain and simply put, a lot of steps have been taken in the automotive aftermarket world that this book does not talk about nor should it, since it was written so long ago that Jegs, and Summit did not even exist.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Automotive Fire Analysis: An Engineering Approach

4-0 out of 5 stars A good guide to Performance upgrades for Mustangs, but...
This book is basically a republishing of articles from Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords Magazine. But that is pretty much the only negative thing about it.If you haven't had a subscription, or you don't categorize and bookmark issues you do have, this is a good thing to have, especially, if like me, you haven't worked on a lot of cars.In introductions to chapters, it adds information that may have been left out of articles, which I found answered questions I had.It makes a good addition to the Haynes manual, which just covers stock items.I find it good reading even for those items I have no plan to upgrade.More pictures of the projects and references to chapters (or information on) other projects on the same vehicle would have made this a five star rating.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book to make modifications in your Stang
This book is full of details and has several tests with different modifications done. You can see the one that suits better with your ideas and with the much you can afford.5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
Although I ended up buying a Z-28 Camaro, this book is great. It has the dyno numbers and timeslips before and after the mods. This is very important because you can predict how much faster you'll be with the money you're about to spend. Most books don't provide timeslips which [stink]..the use of power is to make your car go faster. What use is knowing how much power you've got when you don't know if you can dust you're competition or not. Most of all, it covers the 96 to 98 style mustangs (which I was looking for) with the 4.6.Not many books are out there that cover these GT's. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars It's good, but missing the mark.
This is a good book. Its just that it's geared toward the person that has thousands of dollars in tools and equipment,a mega shop, and twenty years of experiance. For the average streetrodder who is working out of a 24X24shop,it will be about two foot over there head. It's a good referance book, but shows very little for the budjet builder. Shows Chevy & Ford V8installs, any other engine, your out of luck.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book provides a foundation in more ways than one
Book is logical and provides pro/con review for different engineering/issues. Knowledge is power - this book is well written. Glad I'm not in competiion with Boyd.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good graphic instruction on hot rod frame building
I found this book to be a very good practical guide to building a frame from scratch. The pictures were well thought out with good timing. The text supplimented the photos to give a good feel for frame building do and dont's. When I had a question I sent it to their web page and got a phone call with the answer a day later. These folks know thier stuff and they love it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT book for all Shark owners!!
As an owner of a 1981 Corvette looking to learn more about his Shark, and the restoration process in general, I found this book to be an outstanding addition to my Corvette library.
4-0 out of 5 stars A valuable guide.
As an enthusiast of Corvette's this book impressed me.A good size book with plenty of advice, photos in an easy to understand format makes this book worthwhile.
3-0 out of 5 stars Original perspective, but lacks test data
This book offers a unique perspective on Corvette restoration. The author restores a 68 Corvette and summarizes the process throughout the book. The car is kept looking stock, but has been fitted with some high-performance modifications such as a high-torque motor and racing-style suspension components. This book gives the reader an alternative view that differs from the factory original restoration.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Modern Middle Ground Book
This is NOT the foundation book for MGB maintenance and repair. That honor is still held by the Haynes MGB 1962 thru 1980 book published in the 1980's and often delivered as part of the "kit" to anyone buying an original MGB, as I just did.
3-0 out of 5 stars Its a good book, but not a great book, but still a must have.
There is a lot of really good information in the book that is not in the workshop manuals. However, there is not a lot of explanation of the processes for some of the jobs in the book.Nevertheless, its still the best book of its kind. What I would like to seel is three or four more complete books covering separate phases of restoration in greater detail. Also, more coverage of the difference between different years would be great.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable !
This book is a very good pictorial record of F1 from the 50's up to 21st century. Although somewhat concentrated on the latest Schumacher era, it takes one back to the early and romantic times of Clark, Stewart, Fittipaldi, Peterson, Lauda, Piquet, Senna and many other great drivers. It brings some nice photographic material of people and machines that makes it a very enjoyable book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Paint Handbook: Paint Technology for Auto Enthusiasts and Body Shop Professionals
The description and a review or two state the book is "revised and updated" but the last revision was in 1998. I bit on this line, a mistake, since I wanted to know about current methods.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
This book covered everthing except installation of the kitchen sink!! Very nice how the author explained the painting techniques over the years and how things have changed. I also enjoyed the section on inspecting a car for hidden repairs.
2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing...
I was disappointed when reading this DIY paint book. While it does provide some background on paint, spray guns, techniques, tools, and painting, it lacks depth in any of these areas.Seems each chapter is really a high level view, but reading the author's background, he could have put more detail in the book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars For the enthusiast
This book is not a perfect guide to restoring a GTO but it is an invaluable aid in that effort. It does not read like a how-to book, however, and if that is what you're after you might look at a number of other excellent guides along that line. But you will eventually most likely wind up getting this book anyway simply because it contains so much information.Sometimes it's hard to find, some of the illustrations were not well reproduced and some of the material infers what you want to know as opposed to outright statement.3-0 out of 5 stars A Lukewarm effort
I would have to agree mostly with the comments from the person from Locust Grove. The book makes a real attempt at naming all the part numbers but thats it.The organization was terrible. The blow up diagrams are helpful (if you have a magnifying glass) and it can be real confusing matching pictures to their proper years. If your seriously going to restore a GTO, buy the car first and then buy the original shop manual, wiring diagram parts list and so on.You can get it from Llyod's website which is linked under DealsonWheels.com.It'll run you over 200 bucks but its well worth it, it covers the specific year and some of the manuals come printed on oil resisitant paper, A nice touch.2-0 out of 5 stars Disapointed
This book is not really a restoration guide, it is more like a parts catalogue. There is very little info on how to restore a GTO. Instead it is just a book of endless part numbers with some exploded diagrams. Also the chapters are confusing, they should be divided by the year of the car. Instead the chapters include all years on the same topic. You can be on one page reading about a console for a 67 GTO and you turn the page and all of the sudden you are looking at a dash board for a 72 GTO! A very poor efort. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Super Bee Reference Outstanding
I purchased the Interchange Manual plus the Restoration Guide for our 1970 Super Bee and they immediately became an outstanding reference source for our MOPAR muscle car.Information is indexed in such a way that it is easy to find what you are looking for in the book.Pictures and diagrams are clear and easy to see.Information is easy to understand.

1-0 out of 5 stars Chrysler Muscle - Still a Mystery!
If you see a part at a swap meet, auction or garage sale you want to know if it will work with your motor. This Parts Interchange Manual won't help! Take carbs, for example. This manual lists 141 interchange numbers with NO REVERSE INDEX. Want to know if you should bid on that 4671A for your six pack? Scan every one of 141 listings until you come to 4671A at number 124. Now all you know is it was stock on eight models and which ones those are. Will it work on that Mopar Performance intake you just bought? Who knows? Will it bolt onto anything other than the eight listed models? Who knows?4-0 out of 5 stars Great Parts Guide
