MSF brings hope tot he most unimagineable Hell
I am a grade 10 student who recently used this book for an english project.I found this book to be highly insightful of MSF thoughts, goals and ideas.The book painted a bold picture that sends a impactful image of our world.It sheds lights on many projects MSF is currently working on and also makes you think of these people who give their lives for strangers in order to provide life.
Very Good Book
This book really helped putting the finishing touches on my sister's research projects about doctors without borders, especially since many books don't offer as many insights and pictures as this one.

impersonal and repetitive
I would say that Hope in Hell is a good read and an interesting book but I have to say that the style is very impersonal,very repetitive, very introductory and does not do justice to the many MSF volunteers who were interviewed for the book.Read more

Our Recent History
First and foremost, The Deep Dark is a really enjoyable read. If you've ever worked or lived around men who work hard for a living, whether it's in mines, steel mills, logging or commercial fishing, you'll recognize the men in this book.They range from hard-drinking live-for-the-moment types to family men who garden, work on their cars or collect stamps. It never felt like I was reading an important history of events that helped transorm an industry - but I was.
Realistic, detailed documentation of mine disaster
In 1966, between my junior and senior years at Dartmouth College, I spent the summer working in the Sunshine Mine. Given my experience, I can attest to the accuracy of Gregg Olsen's portrayal of life in the mine and in Kellogg.

This Book is a Steal - Get It!
I have had this book for over 5 years. When I compare what I paid for it then to how cheaply it is available now, it's a no-brainer...GET IT, especially if you find one in good condition with a nice dust-jacket.
Magical Era
This is the definitive history of the Airship from it's creation to it's untimely demise and of the future. History of the Hindenburg & Other Airships
To this day, I don't know why I am so fascinated with the Hindenburg, but I do know that she is an amazing airship to study. Her firey crash as well as some other famous crashes (Macon, Akron, Shenandoah, etc.) are discussed, in detail, in this book. So it's not just the Hindenburg's history, but the whole history of airships in general, right down to the present day Goodyear blimp. I've absolutely enjoyed reading this book cover to cover because of the history that has been detailed throughout the career of the airships of the past. "Hindenburg: The Illustrated History" is worth getting for anybody who loves airships or history's great disasters. ... Read more

A Theory of Terror but NOT a Theory of Terrorism
Pyszczynski et al have done a fine job of presenting a theory of the human emotion of terror. However, most people browsing in Amazon.com would be more interested in books explaining terrorism. Terrorism is an extreme form of violent, political activity; terror is a profoundly distressing human emotion. The two concepts are distinctly different, and readers interested in the former will be disappointed to purchase a book on the latter.

Another Winner!
'Rescue' carries on the series' tradition of choice excerpts (19) from well-and lesser-known authors.Therein lies the beauty of this series - I had never heard of Spike Walker (!) but after reading the riveting excerpt in 'Rescue' I ran out and bought both his books.Two of the selections are fiction, not my taste, but the other 17 tales of peril, shipwrecks, avalanches and plane crashes will have you reading all night.The stories range from professionals who take one risk too many to everyday folks who find themselves over their heads without warning.A great gift book for anyone who thrives on adventure and especially if you you know someone in search/rescue or the Coast Guard.Get all the books in this series - I have and I love 'em! ... Bullet Train
This book reads like a bullet train from New York to Mogadishu, from heaven to hell, a pageturner if ever there was one. You get a privileged insight into the life of a reliefworker, a first hand account of the absurd madness of a godforsaken place where anarchy rules and where lives have no value.
A Great Read about today's Heroes
Superbly written and very hard to put down, this book throws quite a few surprises. Burnett provides first-hand insight into the adventurous and dangerous world of those on the field who distribute humanitarian aid. A Startling Real Life Adventure Story
"Where Soldiers Fear To Tread" is a startling, well-written book, that revealed to me a world I never knew existed. You hear about relief workers in some far away regions of the world and sometimes you read that they are kidnapped or killed.But to read a first hand account of how John Burnett survived these hazards brought the news of these stories straight home. Recommended
Emergency Animal Rescue Stories looks at how disasters affect rescuers behind-the-scenes. I found it a particular poignant point by Terri Crisp to illustrate the enthusiasm of new volunteers in the field and the devastation felt by all rescuers when they find they cannot help every animal.
All About What Really Matters- Animal Rescue
While this book might not contain as many fuzzy, feel-good, heartstring-tuggers as Crisp's earlier book, Out of Harm's Way, I think her second effort measures up just as well to her first. This book features stories from disasters that didn't generate as much press and also focuses on the nitty gritty of animal rescue work- she describes some of the dangers, the politics, the risks, and the disappointments. The book isn't intended to be a bunny-hugging Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul- it serves as an eye-opening introduction to the difficult but ultimately satisfying world of animal rescue, written by a true trailblazer in the field. Recommended (and inspiring) reading for anyone considering volunteering for EARS.

Great Book Brings It all Home
What great reading for the animal lover! This book gave me a feel for what it's like to work in a real disaster and what goes on behind the scenes.It made me realize what hard work animal rescue can be and made me appreciate the people that devote their lives in this way.There were times I laughed out loud and times that I wish someone had warned me to get a Kleenex!I thought this book was a great follow-up to Crisp's other book, "Out of Harm's Way" because it shows disasters that were not necessarily as "media-worthy" but still just as important to the lives saved and impacted.It shows that not only is Terri a true asset to animals, but also to the people that care for and love them.I highly recommend both books and anxiously await a third from Terri Crisp! ... One of the best books about 9/11.
I shredded Reuters earlier 9/11 book, but this one seems refreshingly clear of soapbox lectures and political propagandizing.This is the book Reuters SHOULD HAVE released earlier.As one who has been to ground zero and taken many photographs, I will tell you that the photos in this book are reason enough to purchase it.The record of the 9/11 aftermath contained within is STUNNING.I found the text to be informative if not always necessary.The photos really speak for themselves.Along with Life magazine's 9/11 book, this is a keeper.It is hard to believe that only months ago I stood so close to this sacred site...

The book/DVD set is a superb documentation on the CBS News live coverage of What We Saw as the events unfold and the aftermath on this horrible day of Sept 11, 2001. Cuny was a man with a mission !
I read this book a couple of years ago, and just recently reread it.What a fascinating story.For those who are interested in humanitarian crises, and what it takes to make things happen; within the myriad non-governmental organizations and governments as well; this is the book for you.
Mired in Mystery
I selected this book because I'd read the author's previous work, wanted to know more about Chechnya, and was curious about a man who would try "to save the world."Anderson's telling of the tale of Fred Cuny is illuminating and thought-provoking.I wanted to share this story with others who also knew little about the world where Cuny lived and worked.The continuing unrest in Chechnya makes this book as timely as it was on the day it was published.
a little less author, a little more Fred
This is definitely a captivating tale about a horrid and bizarre situation, but one wishes for a little less of the author's not so interesting tale.The author strikes me as a bit too macho, exaggerating the risks and missing out on important details of Fred Cuny's life (focusing too much on the macho aspects that the author clearly favors).Definitely worth a read but don't be turned off by the author's overblown bravado. ...
