5-0 out of 5 stars More True Today Than Ever
Perhaps I am not as objective as other reviewers of this book in that Robert Kennedy is one of the people I most admire.Having read numerous books about him, I was delighted to find this little book.More than any biography, this book speaks about who Robert Kennedy was.
5-0 out of 5 stars Bobby knew what America needed....and needs
Most campaign speech collections (including from the candidates whom I liked) are light on substance. Those campaign speech books which actually dare to have substance unfortunately find themselves weighted down as being a product of their own time and the issues which they speak are not necessarily valid any longer.
5-0 out of 5 stars What would Bobby do?
Robert Kennedy's humanity, common sense, humility, and passion shine through his own words in this wonderful little book. The editor, Norman Macafee, does an excellent job of culling the best from the final 1968 campaign speeches. Most movingly, Macafee provides crystal clear brief introductory comments which set the context for each of Bobby's speeches and indicate how relevent his evolving thinking on the key issues of war, poverty, racism is to today's dangerous world. The echos in Kennedy's words of our own times are heart-rendingly prescient. The book's conclusion is achingly clear: if Bobby had lived we would not today be tangled in a pre-emptive war without end. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A much-needed counterpoise to most poli sci dreck
Prof. Frymer has written a book that many different audiences will find useful.Political scientists will appreciate his skill in demonstrating a counter-intuitive, and yet ultimately convincing, account of race and party politics. Those from other academic fields will be grateful for Frymer's decision to eschew political science jargon, and will find that the book makes contributions to our understanding of history and law. Finally, non-academics will find the book both accessible and informative.I highly recommend "Uneasy Alliances."

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent
This is one of the best books I've read on race in America. It shows why racism persists, and how our political leaders collude in its persistence. It takes on conventional wisdom among intellectuals and political leaders, and it does so in a way that is accessible to an average reader.I can'tpraise it too highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars you'll never think the same way about parties again.
This book is a masterful combination of historical research and party analysis that will reshape the way we think of political parties.Frymer argues convincingly that party institutions have generally sought tomarginalize the issue of racial injustice in American politics.A majorcontribution to the literature from a young scholar and excellent teacher. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Thought-provoking call to action
John Fund insightfully explores the world of stolen elections - a problem no longer limited to corrupt governments on the other side of the world. It is hard to believe what is happening under our noses, so often orchestrated by those who claim to be proponents of honesty in government.

2-0 out of 5 stars In a democracy, John Fund says Blame the People
This book properly recognizes that election shenanigans are virtually an American tradition, but slinks into pure propaganda with its implicit and explicit contention that Democrats are solely to blame. But, if there's an equivalent book out there for Democrats that focuses solely on the misdeeds of Republicans, then perhaps we all can agree that elections need protocols to determine fraud by officials, by parties, by voting equipment vendors, and by voters. And that we especially need officials with an attitude capable of protecting the integrity of elections, and not one that pooh-poohs every conceivable threat.
1-0 out of 5 stars This book is a shameful attempt to ignore the real causes of election fraud
This book is nothing but a shameful and disguised attempt (notwithstanding his denials) to discredit Democratic voters and to advocate the enactment of "election reform" laws that will disenfranchise voters, while at the same time ignore and dismiss the greatest threat to our democracy today - the privatization of our elections with corporate owned electronic voting machines that count our votes using secret software and leave no paper trail for auditing them.To be more specific:

5-0 out of 5 stars review appeared in May 1998 issue of Choice
The editors of this excellent book have brought together a collection of useful and interesting essays on the role(s) of interest groups in the US political system, particularly at the federal level. The contributions treat a range of interest group activities focused on four major areas: elections, Congress, the executive, and judicial selection and case activity. These essays are framed by a general introduction to the different types of interest groups and their activities and by an assessment of their place in the contemporary political system.Aimed primarily at a student audience, the book would be a valuable resource for anyone curious about what interest groups do and why they do it.Recommended at all levels. - A.L. 3-0 out of 5 stars Good at expounding a viewpoint rarely heard, however...
I greatly appreciate Professor Smith's analysis. If nothing else, the rarely heard opposition to campaing finance reform is set forth clearly in this book. There is, however, some shortcomings in his analysis.

5-0 out of 5 stars Votescam
Right now, we Americans face the most vicious and corrupt government our country has ever known.
5-0 out of 5 stars Weight of the evidence
I am a forensic certified public accountant by profession, with experience as a poll worker.During any fraud investigation the evidence uncovered is assigned a weight, meaning some facts trump other facts to determine the future course to be followed. Some facts are an elephant in the room. To attempt to discredit this book as another "conspiracy theory" without refuting the charges contained within it's pages is to ignore the weight of the evidence.Names, events, places, and charges are enumerated in detail. If you read this book, a simple dismissal as a "wild eye conspiracy theory" will not satisfy you.It will only reinforce the authors evidence. If you are concerned about our Democracy, read this book. ... Political Polling: Strategic Information In Campaigns is a "how-to" book written by Jeffrey M. Stonecash (Professor of Political Science, Syracuse University) especially for professionals looking for guidance in the skill of extrapolating strategies based on information gathered from political polling. From advice to keep in mind when writing questions; to pulling a suitably representative sample; to tracking polls; to drawing recommendations from the results, Political Polling is a very useful and highly recommended primer. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars A very Biassed Book.
The author is a shame for my country. He is a very bright intellectual, the problem is that he has been a member of the three main political parties in the last 10 years. 5-0 out of 5 stars The Dedazo
From 1934 to 1994, each president of Mexico singlehandedly chose his successor--it was called putting the finger (dedazo) on him. Technically, each president simply recommended his candidate to the ruling PRI party: but that choice was always ratified. Each president then served for one six-year term and, ineligible for reelection, chose his successor. The result was something like term-limited absolute monarchy, with much of politics revolving around the choice of a successor.4-0 out of 5 stars An In-Depth Analysis into a Unique One Party System
Jorge G. Castaneda has written a well-researched and thorough look at the succession of Mexican presidents from the 1970 to the 1994 election in Perpetuating Power (How Mexican Presidents Were Chosen). This book is made all the more fascinating as this system no longer holds true in the Mexican system as the essentially one party government (PRI) no longer holds power for the first time since the 1920's.The author takes the reader through each presidents decision before each election as he selected and annointed his personal choice for his successor in Mexico's system, resembling closely the appointing ofa new dictator every six years as the successor chosen always became the PRI candidate and, thus, the Mexican president. It is intersting to see the combination of personal, political, business and myriad of smaller factors work to move the winner ahead or pull the losers back. The series of essays on the successors are followed by a series of interviews with the Mexian presidents, for which the essays nicely prepare the reader. Some of selection process can become repititious and this book is only for those interested in Mexican politics, particulary with a little previous knowledge, but it is an important subject presented very well.An invaluable resource for examining relatively recent Mexican politics. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT BOOK...BRILLIANT WOMAN
eleanor clift's latest book Founding Sisters is her best yet.it is not only informative and insightful, but also beautifully and eloquently written.i think it is important for women in this country to know our history and to honor those women whofiercely struggled, fought, and were in some cases even martyred so that our voice could someday be heard.for those who find ms. clift's book indolent and her research remiss, they should check again. if they are at all honest with themselves, they must admit that there were a lot of facts stated in this book that we (especially women) absolutely should have known, and because of our own complacent ignorance have never taken the time to explore.we need more women like eleanor clift to remind us of our history and give feminism a much needed resuscitation.this book defines the true meaning of girl power and sisterhood!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ladies, if you can't get real, then maybe you'll not vote.
