Enduring Passion
This book gave in great detail the beginnings of both Benz and Daimler up to merger in 1926 and then to 2005. It takes you through the thinking of both men and their values. You can see how and why things were done and not done through the years. The author explains the goods and the bads over the years. The pictures are great! Anyone interested in MB's or own one should read.

It provides a really broad and tensing look at how the Mercedes Benz brand developed from the foundation of the company in the 19th century untill today. Richly illustrated and with numerous anecdotes it gives a - sometimes critical - account of how the brand got where it is today. Readable!

Ultimate Bore
300 pages of BMW. It should be ultimate bliss for any car enthusiast. But it turns out to be a bit of a drag, like a car stuck in third gear, promises that it has the power to go, but just cannot deliver the power.
Nice history, boring read,
As an auto industry follower, I can appreciate this book as a sort of historical reference for someone perhaps doing research. But as enjoyable reading, it falls far short. The book goes into a painfully detailed history of company events. In fact, I felt the title was a bit misleading, since it made me expect some interpretation as to why BMW is as admired as it is. Instead you basically get a chronology of events.

Poor workmanship and limited insights
Despite his years of experience as an auto journalist, Kiley is a sloppy writer, doesn't seem to have a clue about the mechanics and history of automobiles, and provides little in the way of new insights into what has made BMW successful.

Good book, but not gospel
While there is a lot of good info in this book, I think the author is somewhat liberal in what he considers "fact".While it's an easy read and well presented, I wouldn't take everything for complete truth.

Not bad..
Certainly covered all the basics of combustion engines and introduced some key formulas to remember.It's a little European car centered, but engine basics are the same.It is a little dated now, first printing was in '88, so many newer technologies and recent advancements are not touched upon at all.Still an excellent resource.

A fantastic book for both beginning and experienced off-road drivers. Sheppard knows his stuff and he knows how to teach us. His British perspective is different from most of what you read in the US. Most of the technical information and the photos are specific to Land Rovers, but that's no reason to stay away. The lessons learned and the theory behind them apply no matter what you drive. He explains the basics like approach angles and driving gently then goes so far as telling us how to prepare for a trip across the Sahara. You will learn from this book and enjoy reading it. ... Essential is an understatement
ya, I gave it a 5...not because it is the only thing you'll need to read about your '78-83 911 SC, but because it is probably one of the most basic and the most critical.Having bought my old SC without much prior knowledge beyond some past SC driving experience, this book really made me feel better about my purchase, and also helped me prioritize what needed to be addressed on the car.If you're in the market or if you're a 25yr SC owner, you're going to find this book interesting & quite often entertaining!It covers all major functional areas of the car, as well as a history and a section on upgrading the output of your SC.Don't hesitate with this one.

Ultimate Sheet Metal Fabrication
Very good for the novice sheet metal worker. Good explanations on the how's and why's of sheet metal work. Great interviews with professional mechanics. Pictures also help alot, as the task is explained the reader can see the before and after of a given project. Looking forward to my first project.

Watch two Biker Build Offs on TLC you will learn more
about metal working than this terribly mis-titled book.Read the other low rated reviews.They cover the problems well enough.Only thing I can figure is all the 5 star reviews are friends of the author or something.
Useless for the amateur
This book should have been titled "Interviews with the masters of sheet metal fabrication" instead. Very little content to show the uninitiated how to achieve a particular goal or effect in sheet metal-work. It consists predominantly of interviews with different practitioners of particular approaches to sheet metal shaping, with the bottom line being: "You could do this w/ hammer & dolly, or any of several other methods, but this is the faster approach I prefer..." Using Aviation Safety Skills on the Roadways
We have all read text books, instructional publications or technical manuals that are just plain boring.This author's style of intermixing stories from his flying experience keeps the book entertaining and makes it easy to relate to real life experiences.This is not the standard dry, preachy, recitation of the same old driving rules.This book should be manditory reading not only for new drivers but anyone with a less than stellar driving record regardless of age.
