Great research tool, questionable organization
This is an absolutely invaluable resource for dating old photos. Don't expect much gearhead content- this is strictly a spotters guide, mostly compiled from sales art.

A Bible
This book is so complete and exhaustive that it could be called the Automotive technology Bible! But remember, this book is for the serious reader, not for the occasional reader! Buy this if you are serious about the subject.

A must have for any level Auto Tech Student
I've used this book for my Auto Tech classes and it is the most comprehensive auto tech manual out there. Very informative and highly detailed. Get the accompanying Tech Manual for hands on lessons and projects. No dissapointments!

Race Engineers bible
I think i've bought this book a bit too early in my learning curve!
Excellent Source of Vehicle Dynamic Information
Milliken lays down the fundamentals and advanced topic of vehicle dynamics as applied to racecars.The text is not for beginning or nontechnical readers in the slightest manner.Milliken points out many subtle and difficult areas to understand, which take hours of studying to fully grasp.For those seriously considering a career in this field or to the extremely interested reader, this text is the source of information.

heavy duty truck systems
this the 1st time me using this site so i don't have much to say, but i like what i need.i think its nice book for who just start how to work in shop or people who like to work with truck

A great introduction to heavy-duty truck systems
We used this book in our diesel technician class.The book gives you an excellent introduction to every aspect of a heavy-duty truck.I usually shy away from books written by more than one author because of lack of continuity or overcoverage in certain areas.In the case of this book, the authors have done a fantasic job of explaining the topics without any assumptions.The book does a good job in covering cluthes, standard transmission, torque converters, drive shafts, axles, and automatic transmissions.On the subject of brakes, I recommend Delmar's "Today's Technician:Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Brakes."If your thinking of buying a book on this subject matter, you can't go wrong with this selection.Be aware that a third edition has been released.

I got everthing I needed here
This has been money well spent,I am happy I got it and everyone who cant leave their car alone should own it. Not for the faint hearted or old fashioned fuel injection systems.

A good read, with a few shortcomings.
Overall this was a worthwhile book to read, especialy for someone like myself trying to learn a little more about engine tuning in general.I thought the author jumped around a bit on different topics, it could have flowed from one topic to another in a more logical order.There was also a bit of repetition, as though topics were pulled from previously written articles.I found the cases studies to be worthless - one or two would have sufficed.The font could also be a bit larger.Those nit pickings aside, I learned a great deal from this book, which was what I was hoping for.

Holy Cow Why Didn't I Find This Book Sooner?
I have a few books from the "Motorbooks Workshop" series and I am happy with all of them -in fact I'm kicking around the idea of building a library of them for myself, as they are all instant reference books full of valuable information. I could waste a weekend away just thumbing through them.

The 'Gold Standard' history of PMCC...
Simply the best, most comprehensive history of the Packard Motorcar Company, it's products, and it's creators.Lavishly illustrated, including many archival photos, full specs on all the models, and intricate details of the products and company...all the info anyone really needs on these fabulous cars, and much more than the total of all the 'Other' Packard books combined. A substantially sized book which befits the aura of the Company as well.My only concern in an otherwise well researched effort is the largely inaccurate reporting of the intentions behind the Studebaker merger debacle...something the excellent James Ward book covers quite well (and accurately). Still, a 'Must Have', and a relative bargain, especially since it's first printing sold for $75. ... Read more

Few as good as this one
"Going Faster" is surely one of the best books ever written about the fundamentals of driving.While focusing on handling a car at speed on a track, each of these lessons applies to general handling in all situations.Situational awareness, looking ahead, picking the best line through a corner, understanding the car's grip and why smooth inputs matter so much.Everything is here.
Excelente Libro
Creo que he contado con suerte al seleccionar este libro como mi primer libro sobre conducci�n deportiva. Existen muchos libros que tratan el tema pero me dej� llevar por el buen nombre que tiene la Skip Barber Racing School y creo que hice muy bien. El libro cubre, creo yo, todo lo que en teor�a se deber�a saber a cerca de como correr en un auto de carreras, despu�s del libro s�lo queda poner en pr�ctica todas las cosas que se aprendieron, algo que obviamente es muy complicado, pero por lo menos al haber leido el libro ya te sientes con confianza de que no est�s actuando como un ser irracional al frente del volante de un auto de carreras. Yo aconsejo que lo compren y adem�s si tienen la opci�n de hacer el curso (yo no la tengo) lo hagan, creo que es uno de los m�s completos que hay en el mundo, lo digo porque he investigado el asunto por largo tiempo.

Good solid book
I'm not a mechanical engineer and I have been able to follow the book well. It goes really in depth in some places, so you have to know when to skip a few pages. But it is fine for a final year undergrad course, and I'm sure it would work for a grad course as well, but if you don't have a good math and science background (ie engineering), then just research www.howstuffworks.com and then subscribe to a few car magazines. There is a lot of practical info in here as well, but don't kid yourself, most of this is theoretical backround. I am an electrical engineer who wanted to get into hybrid vehicles, and I think if you are like me and want to just buy one book on ICEs, this is it.

A really scientific approach to the engine practice
This book is my Bible. It does not explain you how to add 2HP to the engine, it explains how all that works and why, with theory, numbers and serious real world tests. the Bible for engine related study and research

not what i expected
i bought this book thinking that it would be a good refrence and guide for doing repairs and maintnence on my79 300d. in reading the reveiws on amazon i got that empresion. not exactly. it is collaberation of articles in a mecedes magazine. yes it may have some helpful info, and some tecnical gudance, but it is not necessarly going to have your spacific problem. if you are lookiing for a complete guide to repairs and maintnece this is not your book.

Wonderful
Even though my model wasn't covered very much, the Companion had a lot of pertinent information. I would recommend it for anyone who has an older Mercedes and likes to do their own work.

Totally Clueless
If you read, or are at least amused by, the lunacy of San Francisco newspapers, then you'll understand the title to this review.Ms. Prange is a regular contributior to the Letters to the Editor page.She lives in an alternate universe where reality has no meaning.However, consistent whining, paranoia, and conspiracy theories abound.I can't imagine anyone following her advice or that of her husband based on their irrational logic.And you want to get behind the wheel of a car designed by them? I believe Ms. Prange's latest project is constructing a house that resembles a pair of Birkenstocks.

Its a start, but.....I want to convert my car to hybrid
Conversion to electric cars is a step in the right direction, but even an electric car has to be charged. What does one do when local electricity costs are sky high? While electric cars have their place, more immediate and practical methods may better inspire society at large to consider and implement ideas of fuel efficiency and sustainability.
A Classic
Having built and developed several electrical vehicles and prototypes, I put this book up there among the classics as a good introduction for anyone interested in building an electrical conversion vehicle.I worked on my first vehicle in 1989 and I wish that I had some of the helpful hints that are provided in this book to asist me along.By the way, ironically, possessing two PhD,s ; one in in Electrical Engineering, I have been struck by lightening twice. Good Intro to Vehicle Dynamics
Most dynamics books are kinda hard to read or dont give adequate examples/problems.I found this book to be useful and easy to read.It covers nearly every topic of the automobile from tires to ride and handling, braking conditions and aerodynamics.All pretty concise but worthwhile.The $100 or so will definitely be worth it.Makes a great reference book for any basic auto dynamics needs.

Fundamentals of Vehicle Dynamics
Thomas Gillespie is able to explain the fundamental principles of vehicle dynamics in his book.For those new to the subject of vehicle dynamics, this work will lay the foundation for more advanced reading.Those with science, math and engineering degrees, or those familiar with technical literature, will find the reading easy to understand in comparison to some other works.This allows the reader to focus their attention on understanding the "big picture," and not getting lost in particular formulae.However, for those doing research in the field or pursuing this as a career, there are more advanced texts available.

EV reference...has all the ins and outs
This book is a great reference for anyone interested in the trade offs when creating an electric vehicle.
Electric cars rule!
This is a very informative book that can tell you pretty much everything you need to know when it comes to electric vehicles.If you want a good fiction read about electric vehicles, try 'The Wilson Concern', by Will Alan.I found it very entertaining and informative.

My first referance in my Q8 - EV

Useless
Do not buy this book.It has absolutely no detail and states only what you can already figure out using common sense.I wanted help replacing the carburetor on my 1989 Honda Accord.The book says to remove hoses, connections and loosen the mounting nuts and lift out the carburetor and then install the new carburetor the same way the old one was installed---that's it.No help with hose diagrams or information about how to disconnect or reconnect anything.Also, the carburetor won't just lift out---it is necessary to loosen the manifold to get the thing out.The book doesn't even mention that.As I said, the book is useless.I wouldn't have given it even one star, but I had no choice.

confusing, no detail.... You cannot wirte a 276 pg book for 10 years worth of 2 different cars...There are no pictures and often little detail on what you are supposed to be looking at...Maybe a good, i mena good mechanic could use this book, but no one else...

Has its moments and applications
I own both the Chilton's manual and the service manual and I use them almost an equal amount when working on my '92 Accord.Yes, the Chilton's doesn't contain as much model-specific information as the service manual, but at times the service manual is too technical and difficult to follow.That's when I turn to the Chilton's manual.IMHO it's well worth the price. ... I Built One!
Great book, made the process straightforward and understandable. If you simply follow the steps in the book you will end up with a really good little sports car. If you also incorporate some information from Caroll Smith and Allen Staninforth's books you will have a car that will beat the pants off a Caterham.
This is the beginning
I know how to weld, cut metal design and tune suspensions from scratch adapt junk to something useful the list of things I can do seems endless sometimes. Before I got this book I could do none of these things THIS is the book that gave me the bug which bit me and inspired me to learn to do all these things and to search for knowledge online in books etc. It all began with this book. This book has forced me to take back all my sarcastic cynical remarks about actually building your own car when my wife bought this book for me. It is not a perfect book If it was I wouldnt have learned half of what I do now about suspensions etc since ford cortinas are not sold here But that is part of this books charm its hook is in getting you off your back side and into the pursuit of your own personal sports car. Its been a fantastic ride and I hope you buy a copy too

The title does not exaggerate...
There are two types of 993 owners...the driving enthusiast and the poseur.For the latter group, this book would be a waste of time. For the former, however, this is indeed an "essential companion."Whether the owner's interest in his car is the history, the esoterica of 993 numerology and variation, and/or owner-maintenance and repair, this book covers the ground with alacrity.This is the Porsche equivalent to John Muir's well-known VW book, and as such is an important part of the 993 enthusiast's reference library.

A well written document covering most of the elements a 993'er would be concerned with but a little underwhealming in terms of photos/graphics quality.
