Absolutely HORRIBLE manual
******One-star is NOT LOW ENOUGH******* 1991-99 Ford Explorer Repair Manual
In section 6 the information for the windshield wiper motor is not applicable to my 1996 explorer.Also, there is no information about how to remove / replace the windshield washer spray nozzles.Or how to remove the cowling along the base of the windshield.

Chilton's has lost touch with reality.
I purchased this book for needed factual, accurate information of which I got neither. I wanted to replace the lower ball joints on my '99 Ranger, so I bought this book. Take note: on page 8-4 it states specifically that the 1998-99 Ranger does NOT have coil springs. This of course is hogwash as my '99 most definitely has coil springs. In addition, it states on page 8-8 that the ball joint is an integral part of the lower control arm. This, too, is complete hogwash. Please be advised that this book is RIFE with erroneous information - including any pictures contained therein. I have lost all faith in Chilton's ability to present the correct information on ANY automobile. ... Read more

buy a factory service manual
A serious do-it-yourselfer better buy a factory service manual for his/her specific vehicle from Chrysler.It costs $90, however, non-factory service manual is a waste of money for most of buyers.You just don't find information that you need to repair your vehicle.

Garbage, inaccurate, incomplete, misleading
This book is garbage, innacurate and misleading.Like frustration-then buy it.A jeep mechanic told me this book was a great source of customers for him. The Haynes book is no better. These companies just copy errors and inaccuracies from each other. RE-build it yourself!
Typical Chilton book, tells you everything about the car you could possibly want to know except the thing you're looking for.I recently bought an old (1988) Jeep Comanche; wanted to replace the speedometer cable...using this book I could replace the transmission, overhaul the engine, re-build the differential,but no where could I find any info on the speedometer.Line drawings are crude and difficult to interpret, photos are worse.The text is good and gives adequate instructions.When I go to grind the valves, I'll know how! ... Complete study guide for automotive student

i ordered the book on September 6th 2003 and recieved the book normal frieght within the next week. I'd definately buy form this seller again. The book was allmost like new, there were a few minor things wrong with it but it was used so nothing you wouldnt expect.

Couldn't put it down
This is a great book for those interested in the subject.It was light enough to be able to read through in just a few hours, but detailed enough to be able to build practical biodeisel powered systems and processing equipment.It's a great resource.I gave it 4 stars because I believe the author glanced over details regarding deisel particulate emmisions and the clear bias toward Gaia.

Well Worth the Stink!
This is a very valuable book with very easy to follow directions to help you get free fuel at your local chinese restaurant or wing-stop.I've been able to provide two of my boys with free vegetable oil based fuel for their Nissan 4*4 turbo diesel pick ups. We filter the oil ourselves and despite the stink, it is a very rewarding venture.We have recouped our expenses and have put away over three thousand dollars between the two of them with the money that we saved.Life is fun!This book will help you with all you need to know.I only gave it four stars because I also greatly disagree with the authors Gaia earth worship global warming propganda, but if you can get past that, the meat of the matter is great.

Nao espere muito deste livro
Se voce esta procurando um livro que ensine como montar um "gaiola" ou "dune bug", esqueca este livro. Ele fala muito sobre motor, freio, etc. Sobre a estrutura, ou "frame", so da algumas dicas de como procurar para comprar. Ridiculo ne !

Great for Beginners!
This books starts with laying out the steps needed to build a buggy from parts, including a list of tools and some idea of the time it will take to complete each step.Not all the choices he made will be the same as my project, but it did break it down in terms of what order things need to be assembled, and what sort of work would go into that.It helped convince my wife that the project was reasonable with the skills and tools I had.

Excellent book
The information in this book is just as relavant now as it was when it was written back in 1972.Physics is physics, after all.The book gave me a much clearer understanding of header theory.My only complaint is that Smith and Morrison obviously wrote this book for engineers, and I'm not one.I had to struggle to understand some of the concepts, particularly on tri-y header design; but in the end, it was definitely worth it.The exhaust concepts are equally applicable to carbs and fuel injection.The only things lacking were crossovers and merge collectors, but I guess those things weren't invented in 1972.This book will give you a basic grounding in header design theory, and will enable you to discern a set of well-designed headers from a useless tangle of pipes.If you plan on building a set of custom headers, this book is definitely required reading.

In desperate need of updating!
Very outdated.I regret not having read the reviews here prior to purchasing this book.The last time this book was updated was 1972!There is nothing in the way of forced induction. Turbochargers are not mentioned and there is a single reference to superchargers on page 17!"Fuel Injector" is mentioned once.I am definitely sending this one back.Not the first time I have been disappointed with Bentley Publishing.FYI, 1972 was the year Pong came out.As I said, the book desperately needs to be updated.

I have designed race cars for years and I definitely recommend this book.I found information in this book that I have not seen published anywhere else.It explains how tri-y headers work.It explains the theory behindpulse tuning of exhaust and intakes.The intake pulse tuning is the basisof why Porsche created intake manifolds that effectively change betweenseveral intake runner lengths.These theories are even backed up by proventest results performed by engineers.There are even simple equations thatare directly applicable to designing an intake or exhaust.This book is"old" but then so is the 4-stroke engine and although today'sengines may seem "new" they are fundamentally the same as the"old" ones which makes the material in this book very worthwhile. If you want to know more than what intake or exhaust you should *buy* andare possibly thinking about creating your own intake or exhaust system,definitely buy this book.If you are looking for a book like this but evenmore technical, I suggest the 2 volumes titled "The InternalCombustion Engine in Theory and Practice" by Charles Fayette Taylor. ... GERMAN PERFECTION
Let me confess right off, I absolutely love cars designed by Porsche, I have always found the car to be sexy and elegant.When i see someone pull up next to me in a Carerra with the top down, I just sit and stare with envey.As for this book, it is quite simply fantastic, it is easy to read and well researched, almost scholarly and the images are crisp and well placed throughout the book.You see the evolution of the automaker and get a real feel for what has made the company so successful.If you have any interest in Porsche or just cars in general, then I highly recommend this book...pricy yes, but well worth it...the car and this book.

I bought this book as my main reference for a paper I am writing about Porsche for business class, but my use for this book will not end there.I found this book not only informative, but interesting, and insightful.The pictures were plentiful, but not over done, beautiful, and well described.I will undoubtedly have this book for the rest of my life, and is a must for every car-enthusiast!!

Muy buen libro, simple, bién explicado, con buenas fotografías
Muy buen libro, refleja claridad de ideas y sus recomendaciones son de gran utilidad. A pesar de estar en idioma inglès, se entiende perfectamente. Las fotografías son las adecuadas para este tipo de libro y ayudan mucho. El autor hace recomendaciones de productos y herramientas necesarias para llevar a cabo los procedimientos descriptos. Me parece de lo mejor para llegar a reconstruir el motor del escarabajo. Bien redactado, aborda el tema sin caer en detalles superfluos. Lo recomiendo.

From a Porsche 914 Point Of View
My opinion of this very useful book is from a Porsche 914 perspective. This book is going to really cover the basics and give a good overview of what you're getting into. I really like the breakdown of the book and the photos. Yet, if the photos could be color it would be better - but the detail of the B&W give a fine detail of each step.Of course most 914 nuts are going to buy anything that will help them with any aspect of the 914. For a general book, I think it takes a good "how to" stand on each section of the engine rebuild.

This is a great one
Of all the vw books I own (a lot) this has been the most useful so far. I cant find the info for rebuilding an engine to stock condition anywhere else not even in the rightly fabled Bentley manuals. Excellent
An spectacular book, with amazing photos and very quality printing. It became fast part of my car books collection.

The Car Design Yearbook 4
This volume continues the format and quality of volumes 1-3, with the same strengths (beautiful photos, appealing coffee table appearance, etc.) and weaknesses (commentary isn't always helpful; every car gets about the same depth of coverage, whether it's a production-ready Fiat or an amazing concept car). If you liked the earlier editions, you'll enjoy this one too.

The Car Design Yearbook 4
This is one of the coolest yearbooks around, especially if you like to stay updated on cars that came out last year. These books are excellent reference for years to come.

A great book with the right stuff.
I've read Corky Bell's "Maximum Boost" and this new book by Warner is far superior.Where Bell includes a lot of personal opinion and unsubstantiated information, Warner sticks completely to the facts.Better yet, Warner's book is much more up-to-date, with current information on components, EFI, and tuning.It's a model of clear and precise writing.Anyone seriously interested in turbocharger systems should get this book.

Excelent for learning about the turbos with the last information available
I think that this book is meaby the best in the market in the Turbo Area that it is selling today , and if you add that is was release anly at june 2006 , you can notice that it have the last information available in the tech area.
I liked it.

Makes drivers more human
For Nascar fans like me Poole takes us behind the scenes and gives us some idea of what the drivers are like. Beware that the stories arent all comical or anything like that. But if you're into racing, it provides a depth that humanizes the drivers, warts included.
Too funny!
A fun read for all NASCAR fans!We definitely recommend it for non-serious reading!!

Cover art & title are a little misleading
This is a pretty good book, but not if you're expecting stories from the current era of NASCAR stars, for example, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.Most of the stories relate to the older stars, and that's fine, but considering the cover art and the lead in for the title, I expected a little more of the "new" and a lilttle less of the "old" stories. ... How To vs. Can Do
My purpose for ordering this book was to gain the knowledge of how to do this type of work.While the "how to" is limited, the advantage to me is to learn what can be done and this book covers this well.Overall, I am pleased that I ordered it.

This book paid for itself at page 3 and has continued to do so ever since. Why no 5 star rating well its because I cant afford some of the equipment and he provides no poor mans alternative.

This book was written in the early eighties, and it shows. There is some valuable information, but it is aimed at the sheet metal shaping world- for instance, how to put compound curves into metal.
