Great history of the 911
Although it doesn't have the technical details of Frere's "911 Story", I think for most of us this is a better overall book. I also recommend Leffingwell's "Porsche Legends". If you are a Porsche 911 fan, this is well worth having.

5 stars but...
..only if you are interested in a pictorial evolution of the 911. The pictures inside are awesome and they are not to be found on the internet. The supplementary text is comprehensive and very informative and the book is readable throughout.

Supercharged!
This book is really supercharged for those who are developing their own stuff. Filled with reasonably easy understood formulas to calculate the specifications and enginerequirements, this book makes things a lot easier instead of relying on guessworks. Great Book!

fantastic for most applications
This book was perfect when I wanted a basic introduction to the theory and practice of supercharging. It does re-use alot of material from his Turbocharging book but that is good because that book was fantastic as well.
Awesome Book
This is the first time I'm going to tune an engine.....I'm 39 and have a background in thermodynamics, electrical and mechanical design from operating nuclear power plants. Granted, I don't have an engineering degree, but have made all the calculations to properly size a supercharger for my Audi A8 4.2 liter motor.

E-30 Bentley Manual
The manual was recommended by other BMW E-30 owners and so far it has been pretty helpful.Without it I would not have been able to troubleshoot and find out the problem with the windows of my car.The pictures are black and white and could use many more to show the steps to follow.The electrical diagrams are good.I recommend you buy it if you are going to start working on your car but don't expect lots of pictures.

BMW Manual
This is a very thorough book with a very useful troubleshooting section. It has plenty of detail though because it appears to be BMW backed it refers to the use of BMW special tools and doesn't give many alternatives

I'm a bit prejudiced but....
When my editor and friend Darwin Holmstrom proposed this title, I jumped on the assignment. Several years ago he and I had discussed the idea of looking at the auto business from the perspective of how each car maker motivated the other. It's not exactly copycat engineering. Our book dug deeply into the stories behind the products and the motivation behind Detroit's anxious and enthusiastic adoption of what had been the chief influence of hot rodders: the unfulfilled need for affordable speed. Detroit found it could make the cars, market them, warrantee them, sell them, and reap the profits from them, and for several years - and again now - we all enjoyed a Golden Age. This book puts this particular niche of high-performance, no-compromise automaking into the context of the times and the competitors. Darwin and I worked our photographer friends David Newhardt and Mike Mueller (and there even are a few of my images in there,) to exhaustion finding and shooting rare, significant machines in interesting locations.

Best Muscle Car Book Ever
I've bought all of Randy Leffingwell's muscle car books. The first muscle car book I ever bought was his "American Muscle," which was also one of the best. I even bought his recent book "Porsche 911: Perfection By Design," even though I am not that interested in foriegn cars. It's a great story, with great photography.
I couldn'twait and bought this from Autobooks in Burbank
I'm a cheap bugger and almost always shop at Amazon to save money, but I found a copy of this book at Autobooks when I visited Burbank over the weekend. Owner Doug Stokes said it shipped early. I was going to order it from Amazon, but it looked so great I couldn't wait and bought a copy at full price. It was worth every penny. The photography was so stunning that if you looked at it too long it might burn the corneas of your eyes. Best of all, it included tons of photos of rare and important but seldom-seen muscle cars, images unavailable anywhere else. The text was as good as the photos. In his foreword Jim Wangers calls this one of the best books ever written on the subject. As usual, Mr. Wangers is correct. A valuable guide to restoring Mustangs.
This is a great book.Its not about restoring ANY car it IS about how to restore Mustangs.Plenty of photos(all black & white photos)of various Mustangs in varying degress of disassemble.There's enough information throughout each chapter to get the general idea on how to restore a Mustang.For the do it yourself mechanics,etc this book is a suitable guide.
Useless and pricey
This manual is useless for a 6 cyl mustang as far as any engine restoration. It is nearly useless for frame restoration especially and floor work.

Mustang Restoration Handbook
I purchased this book along with two others; Chiltons service manual for early Mustangs and the parts interchange book. As a package they are three volumes one must have if doing a restoration project.

NO MORE CHILTONS!!!!!!!!
I had hoped that with the take-over of Chiltons by Haynes, that the manuals would get better. This one is still a piece of garbage! I'm replacing a water pump, and this manual is simply of no help to me! If I could get my money back for it, I would! Not much help.
We were trying to replace the heater core, the instructions were foggy to say the least.Further repairs or maintenance just as foggy, its a good book if you have a lot of experience with repairing the vehicle and don't need a how to.Amazingly the "Ford Tempo Mercury Topaz 1984-94" book by Mark Christman, which is by the same company, was a lot better for repairs and maintenance.But neither book helped with replacing the heater core, we eventually used other resources for more ideas on how to actually get to the heater core to get it out.

Limited scope, sometimes wrong.
I've used this book for nearly three years now, and keep wondering why I go back to it. (Actually, it's because it's the only Tempo/Topaz book I own.)I have found several major errors in the illustrations, usually due to showing a 2.0 engine setup as a 2.3 or vice versa.Some instructions, like how to change a water pump, are just plain wrong. Electrical schematics, particularly of the instrument cluster are sketchy to the point of being useless when troubleshooting anything other than a hard failure. I suspect that much of the text in this book was a quickie cut-and-paste job of info that pertained to these same components as installed in other Ford products.It really doesn't do justice to the model-specific problems of navigating the limited space of the engine compartment or tracing an intermittent electrical circuit.Proofreading was spotty at best.It's better than doing a repair job blind, but not by much. ... This will light the 66 flame for you
I purchased this book in it's original printing.Since then, there's been a fire inside me to travel Route 66.This book is like taking the trip.You'll feel you've actually been somewhere when you stop reading.
Route 66 rambles on
While interesting and informative, this book tends to ramble without really giving you a tight narrative of a trip on "The Mother Road". While perhaps appropriate given the disjoined nature of todays remnants of the famous road, I would like to have seen the state by state commentary accompanied by a start-then-now map of the road with the highlights/attractions indicated and located.

Easy to understand in plain english!
This will teach most (non-electrician by trade) people many useful things that will make their trips more enjoyable.(reduce operator error).

Easy-to-understand information for do-it-yourselfers
Bought book to help plan an RV electrical system upgrade and it more than met my expectations. Found the book fairly easy to understand with a wealth of specific information about the "whys" and "wherefores" of wire, fuses, circuits, batteries, battery charging, electrical loads, etc. Author also includes a wealth of technical info for tech types who want greater detail.

Moeller's "RV Electrical Systems" a Live Wire!
As the co-author of "RV Boondocking Basics--A Guide to Living Without Utility Hookups" (available on Amazon) I not only have read, but keep on my active RV bookshelf the Moellers' tome.It's thick, but covers a wide variety of important topics that all RVers, not just "do it yourselfers" need to be aware of.

Thunderbird Restoration Guide 1958-1966
Book pays to much attention to the "top of the line" Models.
Excellent starting point for the restorer
This book isn't a detailed step by step guide in the specifics of restoring an old T-bird but it does give the new Bird owner a good idea not only of what he or she has, but what it is worth.There is a lot of very good info on the history of the 58-66 T-birds as well as an excellent section on the rare M-Code T-birds of 62-63. This is THE book if you are in the process of restoring a 1958 - 1966 Thunderbird. This book goes into every detail. I mean, they even give thespecifications of the M390 engine, right down to the cam lift andduration! This book goes into more fine details about the classic 4 seatTbirds then any other book I have ever read. This is a must have if you areeven thinking about buying or restoringone of these classics. It haschapters for every year from 58 - 66, and talks about every model for everyyear. Such cars as the 62 and 63 Sports Roadster, the Princess MonacoLandau, the 65 "Special Landau", and the 1960 sun roof are evenincluded. This book DOES cover the AllTrac models
While not the best (compared to the Factory Manual, aka "BGB" (Big Green Book)), it is better than the Haynes manual for the ST16x and ST18x celica models because it covers all the models, including the rare AllTrac (AWD Turbo) models, the ST165 and ST185.The Haynes covers the FWD Celicas only.This is an important point to make, as I have an AllTrac and the Haynes does not help me at all.Also, this book has a lot more information than the Haynes-- even the thickness (page numbers) comparison should tell you that.For a maintenance/DIY manual, this is something you want to have, especially considering that the next best manual is the official factory manual (BGB) which will cost you about $100 and possible waiting for special order from the dealer.

Good manual
Has all the info I need, haven't found any inaccuracies yet. Some information is not TOO easy to find but it's hard to think of things that are NOT covered. Especially has a complete set of wiring diagrams, although an index for those 220 pages of wiring diagrams would have been nice! I made my own, after getting tired of browsing every time.

Chilton's Manuals are genrally better than this...
I have bought 3-4 Chilton's manuals for my Hondas over the years and was very impressed with them. This Chilton for our VW Cabrio was VERY poor. Luckily I bought mine used for $7. Manual gives ALOT of general information, little of specific to the Cabrio or Volkswagen. No relay layout and no specific cruise control information at all - two specific points of interest for me right now. This book will walk you through general topics like timing belts, brakes, and oil changes.
Incomplete and contradictory
This is a poor manual.In many cases, the instructions given even on basic repairs are incomplete (torque specifications missing, for example).It also contradicts itself - the text will say one thing, and the captions on the pictures say the opposite.For example, the instructions for replacing the air filter say that you don't need to disconnect any hoses or wires from the housing in order to remove the housing, but the pictures show you exactly what hoses and wires to remove.Regardless, I was unable to get the air filter housing open at all with these directions; I'm by no means a mechanic, but I think I should be able to change an air filter with a well-written repair manual.Also, the information about the rear washer system isn't detailed enough - I can't find the rear washer reservoir where this book says it is.Perhaps they left out some Golf-specific details and the description of this system only applies to the more-popular Jetta?Hopefully I'll find out soon, because I've returned this book and ordered the Bentley manual, which costs three times as much but will hopefully be complete and consistent.

Haynes repair manual

Super history of the nation's most beautiful highway!
If you were ever interested in finding out more about how highways were built before the Interstate system, this is the book for you!The Merritt Parkway and its extension the Wilber Cross Parkway remain marvelous designs to this day and are still enjoyable to travel on during every season.If you are from Connecticut or nearby New York, this book offers a wonderful historically perspective.The photographs are large and clear and the pages of the book are a good weight.In addition to being a good read, this book promoted a lot of family converstion about the history of the road.My great-Grandfather, for example,was the first person to ever drive over the Sikorsky Bridge built to connect the Merritt Parkway to the Boston Post Road in Milford, CT.This made the book seem all the more personal to me knowing that my family had played a part in Connecticut's history.Read more

Bought this book as a reference to assist with troubleshooting and
not for the beginner
Like many Chilton's manuals, these are more for someone with a bit of experience beforehand. If you are not familiar with working on cars in advance, this book might give you just enough information to start screwing stuff up before you end up taking it to a garage anyway.

The edition of "The Data Book" that I own has all of its text--what little there is--in Japanese. The book is almost all pictures, all of those line drawings, and most from the late French illustratorDaniel Rebour, the best technical illustrator that the bicycle world hasever been blessed with.I am a professional bike mechanic and an amateurcustom frame builder who reveres French machines of the 40's to the 60's. For owners of sick Minis
My Mini was in horrible shape and had been sitting around unused for 3 years. When my welding equipment finally arrived my father decided to get this book to help us with our restoration. In my case the front end of my car had been smashed by a previous owner and getting the original shape back would be almost impossible with my bodyworking skills. The book shows how to do this although I would really prefer more close up pics of EXACTLY how the front can be cut off carefully in order to preserve it. Sometimes you can buy a used Mini and chop off the front for less than it would cost to buy repair panels. This is especially true in countries far away from the UK where it is much easier and cost effective to buy brand new Rover replacement panels.Read more
