2-0 out of 5 stars All-Audio Spanish Basic-Intermediate
Before trying this course, I took the Berlitz introductory course and courses I and II by Pimsleur.I found both the Berlitz and Pimsleur courses better than this one.I agree with all the reviewers who didn't like it.This course is too heavy on discussing grammar and vocabulary and not heavy enough on practicing dialogue. It's easier to learn grammar and vocabulary from books. Audio tapes are more useful for practicing dialogue and pronuncation. The section in each lesson where you are asked to respond is too difficult for a beginner, and at the same time not very useful for an intermediate student, and it's much too short. Now I am trying Pasos 2 which at least has more dialogue to listen to, even though the speakers use slang and are difficult to understand.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good intermediate step toward learning Spanish
This product is good for someone who has had an introductory course and understands how Spanish verbs are conjugated. It is a little more advanced than beginner's course helped me learn more!

5-0 out of 5 stars I think it's Excellent
Having read the previous reviews of this CD set, I wonder if I'm the only one who has enjoyed it. What excited me most about All-Audio Spanish was when I had listened to all 6 CDs and restarted Disk 1. I had felt a bit frustrated as the CDs progressed, feeling, as some other reviewers apparently have, that it was really fast. But when I started CD 1 again, and was able to speak along fairly well for the first few lessons (there are 35 total), I was really excited. I just completed a 17-hour drive, listening to the CDs the whole way, which was enough time to listen to all CDs twice. While I'm not nearly fluent, I'm amazed at how much of the conversation in the CDs I can actually understand. Particular features I like about the set:Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Plain everyday wanting to write
I'm your plain everyday wanting to be writer. I found, 'On Writing' to be one of the best books I've read. Mr. King writes of his childhood and life in the first part of this book, then in the second half gives advice on how to write, which I have highlighted and marked up something awful. I was one of those teenagers he talks about in his book, that failed English in high school, and thought I was dumb, because of it. I did write as a child, only for myself, not like Mr. King who wrote for Dave's Rag. I loved the parts that spoke of his and his brothers dreams, escapades, or just having fun growing up. It brought back memories of me and my brother. I've read a few books by King, but I find I loved this one the most. I'm one of the older crowd, five years older then Mr. King. I wish he would write more books on plain everyday life, as he lived with his brother and mother, for me and others out there who don't want to read murder, mystery, etc. I'm not saying I didn't like Misery, because I did. I guess now in my elder years I'm just looking for a little less anxiety. I guess I'm what you call "old" and want to think of the world as a loving place and nothing more. I know I'm just dreaming about loving your neighbor, but I "do" believe that people are out there to love one another. I tried my hand at self publishing a book named, "Fears Flutterby", maybe if Mr. King reads this he can give me some tips.
5-0 out of 5 stars As Much of a Writer's Manual as a Riveting Tale Told By a Master Story Teller
I am not sure how I should classify ON WRITING. It is part memoir, part guide or manual, and part autobiography. As a reader, this book entertained me. As a writer, this book empowered me.
5-0 out of 5 stars On Writing, by Stephen King
So you've finally come to it: you wake up in the morning, and decide to heck with this nine to five job, bills, and a squinty-eyed boss that smells like old tobacco - you want something better out of life. You've decided to do what you always wanted to do; become a writer, and create worlds and whole universes for a living.

5-0 out of 5 stars Relevant, Insightful, Provocative, Life-Changing. A must-read!
Once again Peck's integrative approach (integrating psychology, spirituality (not dogma), and philosophy with practical experience) has produced a work of profound depth and value. In our times of "global war," the doctor's ideas about community making and peace are a prescription we could all benefit from.
4-0 out of 5 stars Peck Mixes Spirituality with Common Sense
Community isn't what we think it is.Peck does an impeccable job of explaining true community and why it is so elusive in our society.Though he mentions over and over that he is an idealist, Peck presents some very intelligent arguments as to why a community approach just makes sense. He isn't naive either. He says the road to community can be painful and extremely hard.

3-0 out of 5 stars A developmental model psychospirituality
After being catapulted to fame by his first book--the best-selling "The Road Less Travelled" --psychiatrist Morgan Scott Peck follows it up with another one on psychology and spirituality. The chapter that captured my interest without let was the one on his theory of psychospiritual development. He delineates four stages, each representing a more mature level of development than the preceding stage. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A revival of the series!
The previous years of the show has been a little dry. With Blackgaard dead, Jason off doing mission work outside the US, Jack and Johanne happily married, and Eugene and Katrina virtually Ignored, nothing was really happening on the show. Until now :) Kids' Radio is jammed with the singals of a Big Media Giant, someone breaks into Whit's End, a few kids run into a hacker on the Internet, and Jason returns to Odyssey. All of the sudden, things are ALIVE in Odyssey!! The series has abandoned the idea of split-episodes (the contraversial 15 minutes programs of the last few albums) and has started focusing on it's main characters for the last 13 years -- Whit, Tom and Connie. Plus, it's starting to sound fresh again...and few series, Radio-Tv or otherwise, can sound so alive and full of ideas after so long. So, hat's off to the new, Improved Adventures in Odyssey!! Keep it up!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Getting Better
Unlike the current trend of Adventures in Odyssey where the quality of the shows were going down, this album presents a small promise of a return to the normal Adventures in Odyssey writing. With the introduction of a new villian, and the start of some long term arc episodes, The Big Picture hopefully will mark the upswing in Odyssey writing. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars no regrets, but far from completely satisfied
Although I have no regrets about using Pimsleur Spanish II, I am not 100% satisfied. After finishing the Pimsleur series I have learned some Spanish but I don't think that I have learned as much Spanish as I thought that I would have learned. As a couple of reviewers already pointed out, Pimsleur does not cover as much Spanish as the FSI Spanish method (but I paid several times more).
3-0 out of 5 stars Bookchip version is better and easier to use,
Bookchip version is better and easier to use, ( 3 bookchips compared to 52 cds) I bought bookchips and cds, send cds back. Buy Bookchip (Audiofy Bookchip) instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars a bit pricey you say?
Other reviewers have already adequately listed the reasons for using the Pimsleur method. I did all three levels of Italian and have a excellent proficiency in the language (especially pronunciation).

4-0 out of 5 stars The Victors
From the very beginning of the book I was enticed.I thought it was very well written and an enjoyable read.It includes stories and things I would have never expected.I thought the relationship between Marshall and Eisenhower was most interesting.I had not learned much about Marshall and Eisenhower's personalities. They were opposites yet worked very well together.Their relationship was based on trust. It is inspirational to hear of all that our soldiers went through during World War II.As someone looking back it helped me to better understand what went on and what the soldiers experienced first hand.I thought "The Victors" was a wonderful book and spanned over a good period of time.I would highly recommend it to others as a World War II informative book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fighting in the cold
This covers the European theater from D day to the end. 2-0 out of 5 stars Sort of a best of Stephen Ambrose
I have read most of the books by Ambrose and the material in The Victors is covered better in his other works. It isn;t bad, but the only reader who might find it interesting is someone who was looking to get into Ambrose's WWII works.Anyone else but the completists will probably not enjoy this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Program to begin learning Spanish
By the time you're done with this program you'll be able to communicate confidently, but you'll also have only a handful of words at your disposal.
5-0 out of 5 stars It's ridiculous how easy it is.
I need to add something to this review which I wrote about a year and a half ago. Shortly after I wrote this review, I took a trip to Spain. What I learned was that I understood enough not to feel completely confused, but I would be delusional if I felt I could really speak Spanish. Since that time, I've used Rosetta Stone and I read and listen to the radio constantly. Possibly the best move was hiring a good private tutor. There are times when I understand things perfectly and other times when I hear a rocket fire procession of consonents and vowels.

This is a 20-CD set of ten of the best mystery radio programs of the 1940's and 50's.There are four episodes for each of the programs (two per CD).This set also includes a small 32-page booklet that gives good background information on each of the programs and the episodes included here. For programs where the emphasis in on a detective who solves a mystery, take a look at "Old Time Radio's Greatest Detective Shows" (another 20 CD anthology from Radio Spirits). Here's a list of the programs and the included episodes and airdates:

4-0 out of 5 stars Very useful
I have had good luck with Pimsleur programs in several languages, including Vietnamese. I've found them easy and better for learing basic phrases through repetition than other materials. Further, since the vast majority of the program is auditory, I was able to listen in the car or on a portable device and learn phrases without having to folllow in a book.
2-0 out of 5 stars Ok, but some mistakes... barely responsive customer service
I have purchased this item and the shorter version. During my studies I was told by several Vietnamese that some words and forms of address taught by Pimsleur were incorrect (and could be insulting). For instance, the word 'chi' should never be used to address a younger woman; you are calling her an old man. Although this thread runs through the course, most of it is OK... if you don't mind making the correct substitutions yourself. When customer service was contacted they said they would have a linguist 'get back to me'.Never happened.

4-0 out of 5 stars Skipping Across the Country to find History.
Since this is one of those special over-size books, I was expecting just a beautiful keepsake, a coffee table item. Its glossy exterior gives that impression. And yet the in-depth stories are chock full of historical facts and modern happenings as a result of what had happened before.
5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the time
Peter Jennings narrates this abridged series of interesting vignettes about Americans living in America and by doing so creating and recreating America. He examines the old tensions in our democracy like big or small federal government, corporatism versus individualism, and secularism versus religious fervor. In some cases he elevates historical figures too highly, like Jefferson, despite his seditious writings in the Kentucky Resolutions, and W E B Du Bois, despite his socialist rantings from early in the century. Jennings and Brewster would have done well to feature other more worthy people in their book. I enjoyed the profile of the Club for Growth using populist tactic against unresponsive Republicans, and the profile of CFG's mouldy counterpart on the left. The heart rending story of Gary, Indiana and its misinformed leaders is a cautionary tale to any group in America that expects to dwell for long periods at the federal trough, administrations and sentiments change, don't get too comfortable. I would have liked to have heard how outside threats have molded our country (aside from 9-11), because I feel that it defines a portion of thecore of our country. Start at the XYZ affair up to the communist involvement in the FDR administration and I think you have rounded out a view of America more fully. Perhaps this is in the unabridged version. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Murder, Religion, MormonsandFundamentalists
This is sort of "The DaVinci Code" of Mormonism. The difference though, is that Krakauer, unlike Dan Brown, does much better reasearch and is not writing fiction.Krakauer also reveals his personal biases in the author's notes at the end.
1-0 out of 5 stars Great works of fiction
I read the first 1/3 of the book, and had to quit, because it falls into my "great work of fiction" category. My major complaint with the book is with it's history of Mormonism.I have read the various official stories about how the gold plates were found, how the church was organized and other events from the LDS church.I have also read various differing accounts by detractors.
4-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Take on LDS Origins, Current Schisms and a Tragic Crime Spree
When I first read Jon Krakauer's INTO THIN AIR, I became fascinated with all things Everest.(All things except actually climbing the growing peak, that is.)So when this became a book club pick, my curiosity was piqued.(Glad I got my 'p' word quota out of the way this early.)

3-0 out of 5 stars Friedman's history is great, but "Flat" has its drawbacks
Friedman's substantial, "The World Is Flat" is a summary of the dramatic changes in the economy of the world in the first few years of the 21st century. The book is full of great stories from all over the world that shows how, while the geography of our planet hasn't changed, that geography is becoming less and less an obstacle for business. The author shows, in a fairly amusing way, how certain dates in history (e.g. 11/9/89 - When the Walls Came Down and the Windows Went Up) represent major milestones in the progress to a flat world. These events, called flatteners, helped usher in the new globalization (version 3.0), which is exploding and resulting in a new world economy where India and China are on the same production and creative level as the United States.
4-0 out of 5 stars The future is here, and it is starting to be evenly distributed
I have to admit I only read this book based on the fact it was topping all the best seller lists. I found it to be a worth while read. Even though I follow technology closely, I wasn't really aware of some of the points that the author made, so hopefully many will pick up something from this book. Many parts of the book I had difficulties relating to, but the new insights it provided were defently worth it.

1-0 out of 5 stars How to destroy the United States 101 - What the book should be titled
It's a shame that US leaders have based a lot of its US policies on this book. It's like they want to make the US North Mexico or some Third World country. Really it's traitorous.
