Based on the advertisement at Amazon this was the book "In Search of Excellence.It was not the book but an interview about the book.I was very disapointed.I still want the book on CD but feel it futal to try ordering it again on Amazon as it is a nusance to order and return.If you can help, I would love to purchase the actual book on CD.Thank you.
Inspiring and informative
Tom Peters is a gift to this generation.He has taken subjects that have been blown out of proportion and brought them to manageable levels.By doing this, he has created an environment where the common business person can provide and take advantage of exceptional products and services.
International Bestseller
"In Search of Excellence" is an interesting book to read which was an international bestseller when it was first published in 1982. The book was written for the general public in simple and easy to understand language and explores the art and science of management used by leading companies with records of long-term profitability and continuing innovation. However, the information presented was not based on hard data (or based on faked data), which was its main weakness.

A Good Basis in Dutch
I recently moved to Belgium for my wife and I used this course to get me familiar with the basics of the Dutch language and it does an excellent job of that.It won't by any means make you fleunt, but it covers enough "survival" Dutch to get you by.I do wish they had had a comprehensive 3-level course, but I was very happy with what I learned and the ease of doing so.I would recommend going through this course before continuing with the more expensive Rosetta Stone.
Excellent as far as it goes.
This is a short introduction to useful phrases inDutch.It was very helpful as far as it went, but it would be great if Pimsleur were to do a full 3 course series for this language.I've used Pimsleur for one other language and they are the best tapes I've used.Pronunciation is very clear andunmistakable.This course was worth the money, but I wish it would have gone further.

Great as far as it goes.
I used this course intensively prior to a trip to the Flemish-speaking part of Belgium, and found it very useful.Like all the Pimsleur abridged sets, this course is tantalizingly brief -- it leaves you wanting more. Nonetheless, what these courses do, they do well, and that is to inspireyour confidence to open your mouth and speak the language.I wascomfortable exchanging polite pleasantries in Dutch and ordering meals anddrinks in restaurants -- no mean feat where people are only too happy tospeak to you in English! ... So Far I'm Impressed
My German is very rusty. I'm not a beginner but chose to start at disc 1. The pace is good, the lessons varied and its not too tedious. Grammar is covered but in such a way that its not overbearing. I wish there were a few more drills at each section but I realize they can't do everything. I've only finished 2 discs and for me while there is much that is already familiar, there is still enough new to keep me interested.
Good starter tapes!
This was pretty good, listened to it in my car for a few weeks before I went to Germany for my first visit. It is an easier way to learn. Just pop it in and learn. Won't make you an expert, but very helpful.

It Works!Slow But Sure!
I listen only when I drive, but it works. I didn't try to understand everything at once, but more to first understand the dialogues which were entertaining. Each time I replayed I heard things (grammar points etc.) I hadn't noticed before. At first I understood such points only in the context of the specific lesson. After going back to the CD's after a break of a few months, I realized that I was now understanding the grammar in a general sense and cross-referencing automatically with other lessons. Read more

Michael Riera is the high school counselor many of us wish we'd had: he's smart, non-judgmental, and respectful of kids. This excellent book is chock full o' advice for parents that sometimes goes against the established grain but makes utter sense. For example, don't give advice even when asked, embrace estrangement (it's part of your teenager's development), and take a demotion and move from "manager" to "consultant." Read more

Making sense of it all
Most of us spend our entire adult life trying to figure out our own childhood, so it's no wonder that raising a child can seem confusing, challenging and at times scary.This book saved me.It taught me (or atleast reminded me) that all teenagers go through enormous physical,psychological and social change in the high school years.While thespecific behaviors will vary from child to child, there is a common threadrunning through it all -- and it makes sense.This book reassured me thatmy child wasn't abnormal, that I was right in being confused and sometimesappalled by their behavior.And it let me take a step back and not take itso personally.After reading this book, I bought a dozen copies to give tofriends and business associates who were struggling with teenagers (or soonwould be). A good mind opener
I am a father of two boys and I came across this book by searching on Amazon for books that could help me improve my parenting skills. I love my boys and I consider my parenting as a full time job. I read other readers comments and I did some research before I purchased a couple of books, Raising Cain being one of them. My main motivation in buying these books is derived from the frustration that I experience when I know I fail to understand my son on some issues and also from my worry that I do not understand what is going on in a life of a young man in today's world.
excellent insight
I appreciated the insight in this book and have recommended it to everyone I know, and most importantly to the women in my life so they can understand me a little better when I do that male "thing" that confounds them so.As others have done I also read Reviving Ophelia and I would recommend these two books be read in tandem.

Must read for parents/caregivers
This book provides a fascinating insight into the emotional development of boys.I am only on Chapter 4 of the book and already it has provided answers to some fundamental, why-does-he-do-that questions that I've had about my son.It should be required reading for teachers and administrators.I definitely recommend this book to any parent of young boys. ... Italian in a harry
I have found this proudect very usefull in helping my learn another language.
Not for students of Italian
This is not an audio course for a beginner student, or any student for that matter.Had I not had Italian lessons in my past, I would have not been able to use these lessons to speak the language.The initial sounds are clipped so completely that the true word is not audible. I absolutely do NOT recommend this program to anyone interested in learning this beautiful language.

Very good, but...
I got the set recently and enjoy it very much. I bought it, after listening to the German Learn in your car version, which I found very useful. I like the (mostly) clear pronounciation, the vocabulary and the double repetition which is helpful, if you did not get it right the first time.

Different for Ambrose
Ambrose normally gives much detail to popular history when he writes, but this book was a very different approach. Some historic details were given, most of which can be found in his other books. The thing that was different about this one was the brief glimpse of Ambrose's personal life. We heard much of his relationships with other men. These are manly relationships, the kind we all need. It dealt with his two brothers and how they were close as well as some of his best friends through life. The most inspirational was the chapter that told of his relationship to his father. I wasn't deeply moved or anything, but I did appreciate the personal side of Ambrose. You will enjoy this written picture of proper male bonding.

"Comrades" is Stephen Ambrose's reflection on male friendships. He explores relationships among people he has known or whose biographies he has written.
Great Idea But Uncertain Execution
I so wanted to like this book.I had the right expectation.I knew it wasn't one of Ambrose's usual war stories.I didn't expect a lot of psychological jargon either.I knew that Ambrose was a man's man writing about fathers, brothers, comrades in arms and other fundamentally male relationships.But I was disappointed.There was no lesson.There was little inspiration.I met several men, great (Eisenhower) and small (Ambrose's brothers), but I really didn't get to know them or learn much from them.I didn't expect sentimentality, but I expected some meaning, some synthesis, some higher purpose.But this is just a nice little book about men and with a portrait of the friendships of several famous people interspersed with a few Ambrose family stories.I like the stories, but I didn't learn much.What was the father's life lesson he wanted to pass on?We aren't told.What is the great secret of male friendships?There are some hints, but not much.What can I teach my son about what it means to be a man or how to earn the respect of men?We have a few tentative conclusions and little that's new.The reader will enjoy meeting the men in this book, but its all about male bonding.The deepest lessons are left unsaid. ... So I went Franken on Franken and did a little checking of my own with a LexisNexis account and I have to say that he is right almost all of the time.Good for Al to tell people the truth.I felt connected to Al in so many ways greater than just a reader.I felt as if I were sipping coffee with the man and listening to his political tirades and family anecdotes.
A call to action
I was a little disappointed with Franken's last book, Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them (A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right). I thought it was too jokey, too silly. There was plenty of important stuff in there, but it was wrapped in a marshmallow coating of humor that prevented some people from taking it seriously, and allowed others to dismiss it outright. Not this time.
A brilliant piece with a ray of hope for our hijacked nation
This was the first Al Franken book I had ever read. Honestly, I didn't know what to expect. I'd heard of him once or twice, but I'm just a teenager, so I thought he was just another political writer. This book changed all of that. I am an avid reader, and I tore through it in one night's read. When I was done, I thought about what I had read, and went back to read it again.

Clear, understandable, logical, and exciting!
Although he is a university professor, Dr. Hahn's explanations of each of the sacraments are crystal-clear and understandable to us "ordinary people" -- he speaks as much to the heart as to the mind.He gives lots of Scriptural references along the way in case the listener wants to look anything up, and it's fascinating to see the logical context he shows for each sacrament, so that everything falls into place as a cohesive (and very beautiful!) whole.I would recommend this for anyone who would like to know more about the Sacraments, the reasons for them, and/or would like to get more out of them.It is a great way to learn to see and love one's own connectedness with God and neighbor -- especially when feeling alone. ... "Duck Feathers And Flapdoodle!"
"False dawn" is an atmospheric anomaly which causes the observer to believe that sunrise is about to peek over the horizon---at 3 AM. As a metaphor for illusion, Paul Levine could have picked no better title for this, his third Jake Lassiter novel, in which nothing is as it appears.
There's much better out there
This isn't a very good book.I had received it as a gift a few years ago and left it on the bookshelf for a while.I grabbed it on my way to the beach one day....should've left it gathering dust.
Not Levine's best- but his average is better than most!
Paul Levine kicks butt.He's just plain a great author, and his characters and places stick in your mind.Read more

Very useful for digging into certain Cold War negotiations
When this book came out it caused a bit of a stir.However, as the editors note, a careful review of the material actual tends toward moderation.Supporters can see a bit to criticize and the critics can see things aren't quite as black as they had supposed.I found the transcripts to be fascinating because we get to read conversations that were the subject of much debate and speculation for the past several decades.
Fascinating
Although much of Burr's analysis leaves a lot to be desired, this book is a must have for a first hand look at Kissinger's diplomatic legacy. There is still much information that has not been declassified and therefore _The Kissinger Transcripts_ presents only a partial picture at best, but Burr's compilation is well worth the effort to see Kissinger's many different diplomatic faces show themselves as he deals with different characters such as Mao, Brezhnev, Zhou Enlai, Gromyko, Deng Xiaoping and others. It is truly fascinating to examine the different rhetorical tactics employeed by Kissinger to suit his particular audience. Incidentally, this bit of genius appears to be lost upon Burr, and others too, who view these many Kissinger faces with a seeming lack of understanding and even think of it as somewhat contradictory. The guiding theme when examined as a whole, however, is that Kissinger worked toward the improvement of the position of the United States in the world power structure. There is no doubt that the opening of China, coupled with Kissinger's deft Middle East diplomacy, did just that. These transcripts shed some much needed light on the operations of perhaps the United States' greatest executor of foreign policy.

Essential reading on Foreign Policy
The lengths to which Kissinger went to recruit the Chinese on the American side in the Cold War are instructive to those who believe that America played its cards well on the international arena in the Cold War. Much of the story that William Burr has pieced together--quite admirably in my opinion--is sad reading from the American point of view. Less so, of course, from the Chinese perspective. At points, it is easy to forget which of the parties was the superpower, and which the third world nation rising from internal turmoil, economic collapse and a severely hostile international situation. It is particularly instructive to read this book in context of the question of dealing with China, a problem which America has grappled with fitfully over the past two decades. The roots of Chinese suspicion of "peaceful evolution" and "engagement" lie in their recollection of the avid wooing of China in the 1970s. Read more

Pimsleur's Croatian Compact
Excellent pronunciation of the language in pronunciation booklet, and good review of conversations on discs for all 10 lessons. However,a booklet of new words in Croatian with English translation used in each lesson needs to accompany each spoken lesson dialogue.

Good but no cure all
A word of note on the Pimsleur technique.Essentially it comprises three speakers; a narrator, a male speaker, and a female speaker. The course is split into 10 half-hour lessons.And, if the recommended timeframe, of one class per day, is adhered to, should take you 10 days to complete.You will no doubt review the lessons at least once, and therefore the commitment each day will generally be a solid hour of listening.
A taste is all you get
I have to give Pimsleur Croatian program five stars for the excellence of the product, but as good as the course is it may not be for you. The Pimsleur method is the only self-taught system I have ever used that actually works.The method of verbalizing, constant review and slowly working in new words and grammatical uses is effective and enjoyable.The pronuciation lessons are so good that my Croatian friends were amazed, although they quibbled that I was learning a Slavonian accent instead of a Zagreb accent. Within this excellence lies a major problem with this one-volume set.It is not nearly enough.The Pimsleur method, as is any really effective method, is time consuming.The ten half-hour lessons only add up to five hours of instruction.Repeat every lesson and still you only have ten hours.This barely scratches the surface.At the end of this course you will really only know a few words and phrases, not nearly enough to even communicate on a survival level.If you are looking for a course so as to learn enough Hrvatski (Croatian) to communicate basic travel needs, it's not here.If you are looking for a course that gives you a solid understanding of some basic Croatian words and grammar as well as excellent, contemporary pronunciation, then this is the place to start.But I guarantee you will be left wanting more.Read more

I Read a Lot of Relationship Books, and this is a Top 5-er
I absolutely recommend this book. It has helped so much. The philosophy that you can change the dynamic of your relationship only by changing your behavior which will thereby change your partners responses, is the best way to go. Take responsibility that something in your behavior is affecting the relationship. Yes, of course something in your partners behavior is affecting it, too. But most people don't take responsibility for their end. It's easier to see other people's flaws than our own. That's where the genius of this book comes in. Once you are willing to take responsibility, RELATIONSHIP RESCUE gives you the tools to evaluate, become aware, and exchange your unconstructive behavior for constructive.
It can do what it says if you let it....
Dr. Phil's self-congratulatultory writing style aside, the actual nuts and bolts of this book are exceptionally insightful and helpful.It will force you into a phase of honest appraisal of you and your partner.It's not a "quick fix", nor should it be.It requires that you actually read it and do the exercises within to find it's reward.But personally, I think it may very well be one of the best self-help type of books out there. I also purchased the accompanying"Workbook" but think you can buy yourself a ruled notebook to the same effect.

Every couple should read this book
I bought this book after being dumped. Not with the idea of getting back together with my ex, but to really understand what went wrong, or more accurately what I did wrong. This book helped me. Not only his myths about relationships helped me to understand what real relationships are about. But also the different attitudes we ( men and women) can have or behave that destroys a good relationship. I could find myself in several ones. And also what positive attitudes you should have in a relationship, is something you should write down and stick on your fridge's door. So a great book even if your single and you wondered what went wrong. I wished I knew these things before my relationship. We all think, I guess, that love is easy and as long that we love one and other things will work out, but they don't. If you don't know what your doing wrong, how can you know how to fix it? i found these tapes are decently good. they became like my buddies. i enjoy listening to them. most of the words are very useful in day to day life.

This one's fun! Great vocabulary;entertaining stories with good acting; and the best format for reinforcing words I've heard so far. (I just ordered a copy for my niece and nephews.) Learn to distinguish spoken words
I've searched and searched, read reviews of products after products.I then tried SmartFrench and it was exactly what I needed!Just amazing.
