5-0 out of 5 stars Unleash your creativity . . .
To be blunt, I was highly skeptical, but as I listened to the tapes over this past weekend, I began to appreciate their value. The exercises seem deceptively simple; at times, you want to throw down you pen and bang you hand on the table and proclaim, "what the hell is this about."

5-0 out of 5 stars The Messianic Era
I first read these books when I was in high school and although
4-0 out of 5 stars Good idea competently realised, but...
Not surprisingly this is a second reading - I first enjoyed this classic about twenty years ago.
3-0 out of 5 stars Romans in Space
I like Foundation because it's a solid piece of sci-fi from olden days.(George Lucas's stealing of Asimov's city-planet for his Coruscant - tsk tsk, Georgie - amazed me most.) Foundation does have peculiarities.People hundreds of thousands of years in the future speak like us.They use phrases like us. They also have the same atomic technology as people did in the 1950s.Asimov got a bit lazy here; he could've imagined something cooler than nukes. The galaxy is a metaphor for a crumbling Roman empire.Perhaps Terminus is Ireland. As for A's style, I found his use of long adverbs rather funny. In sum, a good book if you can ignore this stuff. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Essential...if you know how to use it.
This is actually a review for more than one product (Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone)
4-0 out of 5 stars It gets the job done...
I live in Japan and have used these CDs to study basic conversation.I listen to each lesson twice while driving to and from work. After a month or two I find that I am able to communicate much better than before.I highly reccomend these CDs, though I would suggest suplementing with other study methods.

4-0 out of 5 stars An overall good intro to spoken Japanese
I have used more the one audio coarse of the last several years in my attempts to learn Japanese. Most are what I would call parrot tapes, they give you a phrase in English then have you repeat it a couple of time in Japanese and thats all they do. While that might work for simple phrases that a tourist might need in a pinch when they can't find a English speaker it doesn't really teach you the language.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good job
Overall it's very good. I have only done just over a half of lessons.
5-0 out of 5 stars Finally! An Arabic instruction book with a clear plan
I've been self-teaching Arabic for over a year now, using many different types of sources (Pimsleur CDs, Arabic newspapers and texts, many other books and tapes) and this is the first and only "textbook" type of instruction that has a clear and well-constructed plan that can be used by a beginner or novice for self-instruction.It comes with two CDs that are very well prepared, also.I've used "Teach Yourself Arabic", "Al-Kitaab", "Living Language", "Instant Immersion (THE WORST!)", etc., and this is the only text that is clear, well-thought out, and plainly builds on previous instruction.I HIGHLY recommend it--along with other aids such as the Pimsleur CDs, Awde's "The Arabic Alphabet", Wightwick's "Your First 100 Words".Since I mentioned them above, I should point out problems with two particular series:The "Living Language" series is OK--but NO ARABIC SCRIPT!That's a huge fault."Instant Immersion" (8 CDs) is nothing more than a recitation of words and phrases with their English equivalents--no more helpful than attempting to memorize an entire book verbatim by having someone read it to you.Get "Mastering Arabic" with the 2 audio CDs--Wightwick and Gafaar have done a wonderful job with this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Book
I like Jane Wightwick's books. They are pretty good and thorough and easy to understand.I have this book and her beginner's Arabic book. I think if you learn the information in that first book this other book would be a review for you and a lot more, so you would come away with more. The Dec. 2004 version also has 2 Cds which are very helfpul for learners of Arabic. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Joy of Educational Remediation
This is one of the books I wished someone would write. My knowledge of science past and present was wanting and yet there wasn't a single book written for (and by) someone in the same boat.Bill Bryson has written such a book and brillantly over-achieved in the process. In the spirit of full disclosure, I like nearly everything Mr. Bryson has written. He can be pedantic and peevish when describing the less than admirable characters and circumstances he encounters but he's always very funny.Having said that, this physically ponderous tome made me wonder whether he could sustain his humor while at the same time educating the reader over all those hundreds of pages.Miraculously, his choice of anecdotes and pacing is spot on.It is extremely readable and there are wonderful factoids and "ah ha" moments on nearly every page.Life is short and this book is not but it's absolutely worth the trade-off.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and engaging history of modern science
Well written and fun to read.Bill Brysons style really creates a nice true story, complete with the quirks and oddities of the charecters depicted.Highly recomended if you are interested in the history of science, or if you just enjoy a fun and educational read.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Read for the Basics
This is a good book. And, like all Bill Bryson's work, it is wonderfully written with such a sense of humor! Bryson is very good at finding facts as well as funny historical anecdotes and idiosyncrasies.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide to comprehension of bin Laden
This is the third book I've read on terrorism and was the best by far. Not only does it take the reader through the important points of bin Laden's life and the historical events that surround them, but the author also analyzes the larger context within world politics. I particularly enjoyed the analysis of the strategic importance of Stinger missiles in the past and the future.
1-0 out of 5 stars Know your facts before reading this book
Warning, before reading this book make sure you are well schooled in the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, US involvement with Somalia, the Persian Gulf War, and Islam. The more you know about these subjects the more you will realize that Bergen interjects his political opinions throughout the book with side comments; by selectively adding some facts and leaving out others; and by the clever arrangements of facts.Bergen is biased against the US and eerily; the net affect is some sort of weird admiration for OBL.
5-0 out of 5 stars This Was Good....But Bin Laden's Mistress
This book had a lot of technical stuff, but I still really enjoyed it.

5-0 out of 5 stars DeMille Does It Again!!!
Nelson DeMille is one terrific writer!!!He is also a superb analyst of social order as he has demonstrated in other novels. In this superb book, he tells a great tale while educating the reader on the history and sociology of Long Island's Gold Coast, the mafia and the FBI.
5-0 out of 5 stars Engaging, disturbing and stimulating novel
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading and re-reading this book several times. I've read other books by DeMille but this one definitely tops them all in my opinion.
5-0 out of 5 stars Another Hit for Demille
This was an excellent story mixing the benefits of and downsides to the notion of what old money brings to a relationship. An interesting twist evolves with a Mafia don moving in next door and the FBI investigations that are inherent to that lifestyle. Excellent reading . . .I couldn't put the book down. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "The Way that can be spoken of is not the constant Way..."
TAO TE CHING is ascribed to Lao-Tzu ("The Old Boy"), an approximate contemporary of Confucius, who when asked to summarize his own philosophy, produced this incredible little volume before vanishing into the trackless wastes of central Asia. Long considered by Westerners to be the very essence of Oriental inscrutability, TAO TE CHING attempts to quantify the immeasurable and speak the ineffable. The Old Boy is far less opaque than he is accused of being; it is simply that human language is too limited to concretize the ideas of TAO TE CHING. Many people have attempted to describe the Tao (pronounced "Dow" or "Taw" depending on the local dialect). No one has yet succeeded. The mere act of description is a delimitation. Conceptually linked to flowing water or a candle flame, Tao is the natural order of things (but even that fails to suffice). The Tao, like Quantum Physics, must be grasped intuitively.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the possible alternatives to a religion.
Tao Te Ching is not only a philosophical outlook on life, it is also a religious philosophy. Written around 4th and 5th centuries BCE, Tao Te Ching gives us the glimpse of the ancient non-Western philosophy, with D.C. Lau's in-depth introduction, it is a very inspiring and eye-opening read. The translation captures the essence of the work and gives the reader the ability to truly appreciate it. One of the main topics of the Tao Te Ching is the idea of non-action. "One who knows does not speak; one who speaks does not know", it is kind of an intellectual trap trying to write this review with the Tao philosophy in mind. If you know then do not teach, if you are ruler then rule as less as possible, if you are warrior then do not fight, etc. These examples are all representatives of non-action attitudes presented in Tao Te Ching. The best way to appreciate this work is to stop reading this review and purchase the book and be amazed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Translation (uncertain about author's introduction though)
I'm not into Eastern philosophy to the point where I take visits to Buddhist temples and practice meditation on a daily basis. However, being a Westerner, I do believe Eastern philosophy is very interesting, intriguing, and very applicable to aspects of everyday life, especially in the life of us "hustle-n-bustle," constantly-on-the-go Westerners. A lot of Eastern philosophy just makes sense, as much as it is common sense.

Being a self-studier of Greek using the Reading Greek series from Cambridge Univ. Press, I heartily welcomed this tape which corresponds to the reader from the series with an excellent introduction to the individual sounds.3-0 out of 5 stars like a play you could not hear

5-0 out of 5 stars Best I've Ever Seen!
I can't say enough good things about this bible/tape set.It isn't boring, droning on and on.It's lively enough to capture (and hold!) the attention of little ones.Contains 100+ Bible stories from every book of the Bible, with lovely illustrations, 70+ songs with printed music, and easy verses to memorize. The tapes aren't only of the songs, but of the full text of all 432 pages.
5-0 out of 5 stars An essential part of your child's Christian library!
This is the best children's Bible out there. It has a story and a song for every verse of the Bible, plus memory verses for each book.If you have a child who is an auditory learner he/she will learn 66 songs and 66 verses! The dramatic reading and the flow of the stories is done very well.My kids have been listening to these CD's for four years (starting at age 3) and they still love them!In fact, we're on our second set--we wore the cassette tapes out!

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful Children's Bible/CD set
My three year old and two year old love listening to these CD's they are a little young to do the read along but just the CD's are so worth what this Bible costs! There are Bible verses set to music as well as the stories! Some of the spoken parts are read by Max Lucado, Larnelle Harris, Rebecca St. James and Joni Eareckson Tada! The Bible itself has beautiful illustrations!Highly recommended!!!! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Olives, Sheep, and Nicotiana
How to write a domestic horror story and gardening book in one. Terror so subtle it could happen to you, olives so ripe you'll be picking in no time:5-0 out of 5 stars A fascinating and entertaining read
This is a lovely book, a really honest and heartfelt description of aphase in Dirk Bogarde's life that was both wonderfully happy and crushinglysad. It could be a very depressing book, but somehow it reads delightully. As an aside it is also a lovely insight into the delights of Provence, sowell portrayed by Peter Mayle in his Provence trilogy.I highly recommendit.

5-0 out of 5 stars An extremely intelligent, heartfelt account of a man's life
Mr. Bogarde has written a book that is so personal and engaging, the reader feels as though he is peeking into a private diary. Each sentence is exact and necessary. There is no flowery narrative, no swanking, no attempt to remind us that he is a film star.It is a simply written, glowing example of a man's desire to share a deeply private part of his life and of himself.Any reader who has enjoyed Mr. Bogarde's prior works will not be disappointed. 5-0 out of 5 stars what a marvellous piece of entertainment!
well, here is an interesting piece of work.I was a bit hesitant at first to write a review, because most of the reviews that have already been written by readers are quite well done. But,however,I have notice that there are gaps and pieces of this hugely chilling book that were not mentioned. So,writing this review now,I am going to explain what I could about the story, but from a different angle to that taken by the other reviewers.
5-0 out of 5 stars You'll Lose Sleep Over This One!
GUARDIAN was the first novel by John Saul that I read. I don't remember who recommended this author to me, but I'm very grateful for that advice, even though it cost me a few nights of sleep!
3-0 out of 5 stars Easy read, but the story lacks substance.
I've read quite a few of John Saul's novels and I have to say I think I'm growing tired of him. This book just doesn't do it for me. His storytelling skills are remarkable but the plot of this book lacks intensity, interest, and believability. I know Saul can do better than this. If you are looking for a better JS book try God Project or Nathaniel. I give this 2.5 stars. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Well Written
This book was suggested to me ater recently being diagnosed with ADHD. Anyone who has a brother, sister, child, mother or friend with ADHD should read this book. Because it is so well written it gives the reader real insight into how the ADHD mind intereprets and responds to everyday activities. Books like this one will help to dispell the myth that ADHD= "hyperactive, over drugged kids who refuse to pay attention" and "lazy, irresponsible adults looking for excuses".

5-0 out of 5 stars This should be required reading to get a prescription!!!
It's simple, any parent filling a prescription for any ADD medication for thier child should have to first read this book or any other written by Dr. Hallowell. My son was diagnosed 9 years ago and I knew I connected with him better than anyone else but I didn't know why. Since 1 year ago I was diagnosed I started to understand but until I read this book and a couple of others (I think I have close to 15 ADD books) and realized what A.D.D really is I didn't get it. I'm not sure someone who is not gifted with A.D.D will ever really get it but if they read more books like this one maybe they would at least understand a little more and minimize the damage created by trying to fit the child into their small world.

Adler is obviously a very learned man and a very successful teacher. I found his argument that listening and speaking were critical skills left ignored by most educational institutions to be very well structured, and, as confirmed by my own experiences, very accurate.3-0 out of 5 stars A Fabulous Teacher
I was hoping that this would be the only book I would need as a guide to developing my knowledge and skill as a public speaker.Rather, the book is about the oral communication process in all contexts. Thus deliveringprepared speeches, in particular the lecture, was just one element of it. There is considerable emphasis on the listening component--rightfully so,given that Adler argues that listening well is the component of verbalc
