4-0 out of 5 stars Binding Problem Resolved . . great book
I'm writing primarily because I bought this book anyway even though others were warning of the binding. My copy is fine--perhaps they fixed it.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good content, incredibly poor binding
This book contains a large amount of practical, useful and comprehensible information that should be valuable to any motorcycle operator who wants to ride safely. It covers areas from accident statistics, driving and operating tips, to strategy.
5-0 out of 5 stars Proficient Motorcycling
Highly recommend. A must read for inexperienced riders. It covers all of the points that are life saving skills! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An old timer not to be fooled with
This guy was smart. Not book smart but real world smart.A good read and as R. Merritt said the movie does not come close to capturing the complexity and realality of what this man did in his life.I'm inspired by this book but unlike the NY Times writer who said this story is "...just Seabicuit on wheels.." I consider this story a common mans tale of the human spirit

5-0 out of 5 stars If you want to know more about Burt Munro, BUY this book.
If you saw the movie, "The World's Fastest Indian", and want to know more about Burt Munro, BUY this book.It was written by one of Burt's closest friends and tells Burt's life story. It rambles some at times, but is full of information on Burt and has b&w and color pictures.

5-0 out of 5 stars More Proficient Motorcycling
This is different enough to Proficient Motorcycling to be worth buying. I like the overall emphasis on avoiding trouble rather than getting out of trouble. There is more emphasis on throttle control which I found helpful. I expect I'll be reading this for the next few years as I continue learning to ride and start venturing out onto the serious twisties. As with the first book, being based on magazine columns ther eis a bit of repetition and some overlap with the first but I enjoy reading it and find it very useful.

3-0 out of 5 stars General Info.
This book was also an interesting read.I was hoping for more technical information.Still, is good for new bikers and a good reminder for old ones.

5-0 out of 5 stars great read, clear explanations
I picked this book up by accident and was very impressed, and read it cover to cover in a few days.

Editorial Review

Lennard Zinn explains that it doesn't take special skills to learn how to care for one's bike, only "a passion for spreading new grease on old parts." Clearly, his ambition is to share with newcomers the Zen-like joy of bike maintenance. But it's seasoned bike mechanics that should be tripping over each other for a copy of this comprehensive and ambitious manual. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Still the best guide, but ...
If this the first Zinn MTB maintenance guide you buy, you'll find tons of useful info. If you own the previous version, you'll see most of the material remains the same. The major (and welcome addendum) is the inclusion of rear shocks. However, few models are covered. For front shocks, there is still major and extended references to old forks, which I am in doubt ifpeople still use them, and superficial reviews for new ones. There are a few new items added like tuning rear shocks, Stan Notubes, slime, tubeless etc - but this info is readily available inweb sites. Overall I give this book 4 stars average - five if this is going to be your first copy, three if you have already one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential
I have to say before getting this book I was a little worried it would be to advanced for someone so mechanically challanged to follow but it details just about every thing you would ever want to do on a bike that even someone like me can follow.
5-0 out of 5 stars Benefits for both Veterans and Rookies
As a rookie, I first checked out the second edition Zinn from the local public library - it taught me the basics of adjusting the limit screws on my derailleur and how to replace spokes on my rigid frame mountain bike.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Michael Jordan of Motorcycle Racing....except.
This kid is a moto god!He still has fun and unlike all the pro sports stars I know has no agnet or lawyer.Cares nothing for money.....who would at 29 million a year.He is funny, and focused, crazy and driven. At 50 he'll still be a kid which I think is what we all want too. This book makes you want to ask yourself the question "What if I never tried?"

5-0 out of 5 stars Straight into the mind and heart of the Valentino Rossi we know and love
This book brings us straight back to his days as a child, a teenager, and a motorcycle racer.. A great read into what goes on in his mind, although some of his life's choices that were mentioned seems a bit too forceful or unreal; perhaps a bit fake.. but again, he is a world champion and world champions have a record of knowing what they want to do from a young age.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book
If you're a Rossi fan, this book is just for you. Definitely different version from M. Oxley which is good too. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Ride of a lifetime
This is a good resource. It points out many good sights to see.I used it for a trip between Bloomington, IL to Edmond, OK.The directions going West are much easier to understand that the ones going East, but not written in a way you can easily follow them backwards. It was deffinately a help in finding the road, although we did get off track a few times. We copied the pages we needed and put it in a plastic ziplock bag with a map. That helped a lot.
4-0 out of 5 stars The Good Women of China
This was good read which will leave most people with a lot to think about.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Repeat Offender" Comments:
I agree with Bill Oakes, I too must have received a different copy of Kirk's book than Bob Ward.Kirk's book IS a time saver--if I have time available for research, I have time to be out on Route 66.As a "repeat offender" I have used Kirk's M/C guide several times (I wish it had been been available for the "Inaugural Run!) both Eastbound and Westbound and found it easy to use, as accurate as most sources available, stores in my tank bag (I wish Kirk would reduce the size--tank bags are not created equal!) and was especially helpful in identifying "must see" icons of the Road.No single website (IMHO) has as much comprehensive, organized motorcycle specific touring information as Kirk has in this book.In retrospect, if I had Kirk's book and the map series he provides to all "Mother Road Rally" participants, I would have made fewer u-turns my first trip.Although Kirk's book is motorcycle oriented (it lists dealers, campgrounds and state specific laws) it can be used by all manner of travelers. So if you're considering "doin' Route 66" Kirk's book is a "primer!" ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
The information in this book is just as relavant now as it was when it was written back in 1972.Physics is physics, after all.The book gave me a much clearer understanding of header theory. My only complaint is that Smith and Morrison obviously wrote this book for engineers, and I'm not one.I had to struggle to understand some of the concepts, particularly on tri-y header design; but in the end, it was definitely worth it.The exhaust concepts are equally applicable to carbs and fuel injection. The only things lacking were crossovers and merge collectors, but I guess those things weren't invented in 1972.This book will give you a basic grounding in header design theory, and will enable you to discern a set of well-designed headers from a useless tangle of pipes. If you plan on building a set of custom headers, this book is definitely required reading.

1-0 out of 5 stars In desperate need of updating!
Very outdated.I regret not having read the reviews here prior to purchasing this book. The last time this book was updated was 1972!There is nothing in the way of forced induction. Turbochargers are not mentioned and there is a single reference to superchargers on page 17!"Fuel Injector" is mentioned once.I am definitely sending this one back. Not the first time I have been disappointed with Bentley Publishing.FYI, 1972 was the year Pong came out.As I said, the book desperately needs to be updated.

5-0 out of 5 stars highly recommended if you...
I have designed race cars for years and I definitely recommend this book.I found information in this book that I have not seen published anywhere else.It explains how tri-y headers work.It explains the theory behindpulse tuning of exhaust and intakes. The intake pulse tuning is the basisof why Porsche created intake manifolds that effectively change betweenseveral intake runner lengths. These theories are even backed up by proventest results performed by engineers. There are even simple equations thatare directly applicable to designing an intake or exhaust. This book is"old" but then so is the 4-stroke engine and although today'sengines may seem "new" they are fundamentally the same as the"old" ones which makes the material in this book very worthwhile. If you want to know more than what intake or exhaust you should *buy* andare possibly thinking about creating your own intake or exhaust system, definitely buy this book.If you are looking for a book like this but evenmore technical, I suggest the 2 volumes titled "The InternalCombustion Engine in Theory and Practice" by Charles Fayette Taylor. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The history of Harley-Davidson, from one of the family
William G. Davidson, or as he is affectionatly known, Willie G., gives an insiders view of the history and near demise of an American institution. I drank the Harley Kool-Aide years ago, but it was interesting to get another viewpoint on the Motor Company. The historical pictures are fantastic, especially the old hill climb photos. This is a must have for any Harley owner, and a gotta have for bikers in general. Be forwarned, you will also drink the Kool-Aide if you haven't already!
4-0 out of 5 stars Great history recount
I would recommend this one to any cycle enthusiast; however I did miss:4-0 out of 5 stars A century in the life of The Hog

4-0 out of 5 stars the missing links
Great book, and even if only 10% of it happened, the average person would be crapping their pants in those situations. What I'd REALLY like to read is those thousand+ hours of tape transcripts. It would likely provide some of the missing links to further details as mentioned by other reviewers here.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, quick read!
Doesn't get bogged down in a lot of details; however, because of this, it feels a little 'bare bones'...but this is probably because of disclosure issues and confidential materials.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Bravery
Thank God for William Queen!!!I just finished his book -Under and Alone - and am amazed at what this man went through to get the bad guys. What a great human being!I loved that part at the end of the book where he writes about knowing that these were serious bad guys that needed to be put away - but there was another factor - after living with them for 2 1/2 years he had witnessed it, lived it, felt it, and understood the love that these guys felt for their brothers, him included. That gave me goosebumps. There was a thin line there for him.Not everything is black or white.Sometimes there is that gray area.I hope that he remains safe and can have happiness in his life.He certainly deserves it!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The bible for adventure motorcycling
I read this book and fount a wealth of information about how to organize travels - infos that I was unable to find on the web until I bought the book.
4-0 out of 5 stars Adventure Motorcycling Handbook, a must have for dual sport touring enthusiasts
If your planning a trip, this is a must have.Covers everything from bikes, upgrades to them, paperwork, riding gear i.e. luggage, clothing and how to pack it all in.Also what to expect while travelling through various countries.General maps of possible tours through 5 continents. How to handle border officials and what to look out for.Stories of travellers and their experience while riding.Even if your a seasoned motorcycle traveller you will still find it an informative and interesting read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Adveture Motorcycling Handbook
I found Adventure Motorcycling Handbook to be an excellent guide in helping me plan my upcoming world tour.Beyond the dos and don't of where to go, the "Equipment Checklist" and the pages with profiles of the Riders/Equipment/Adventures offered it oodles of information to help determine many of the factors required to take a safe and fun trip.I would recommend this book to anyone planning for such an adventure. It is also enjoyable for those who are in any way, shape or form passionate about world travel and motorcycling.Nice job Chris Scott! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Worth The Wait
I patiently waited out many Amazon "order delays" figuring the book had a high order rate after the movie was released. Finally arrived about a week ago. The book is very well written and gives a great amount of detail on this slightly "odd" but determined fellow.I have not seen the movie yet as it came and went in our town in about one week. The one character flaw that shows up for Mr. Munro is that in the pursuit of his goal he seemed to forget he had a family.Worth the read.Could use some more pictures......

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book
I saw the movie first and absolutely loved it. Got the book from Europe after two failed attempts to order in the US.

This is a "must-have" book for anyone who sells to the automotive industry. It presents the requirements of ISO/TS16949 in clear and easy-to-understand language, provides tips to facilitate implementation and offers pointers after each clause on what auditors generally look for during an assessment. This is a great resource.

5-0 out of 5 stars A message to kidmonk
Thanks for taking the time to write a review. I appreciate the sentiment, but would take issue with the point you make regarding the lack of US member inclusion. As you may know, the HAMC are a world wide club and as such, any 'snapshot' of the club could represent the club as a whole. With this in mind, I would encourage you to go through the book again, and see it as it was meant to be....a motorcycle club without boundries.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT PHOTO JOURNAL
THE BOOK IS A PHOTO JOURNAL THAT SHOWS YOU WHAT YOU SEE IS NOT ALWAYS WHAT YOU GET.

4-0 out of 5 stars not enough bang in a book about a subject that is pure fire
although this book features great and at times candid photography it is handicapped by attempting to deal with a worldwide phenomenon (the hells angels mc) through the eyes of only its UK members...the angels though now global are a pure american institution...they could not have been founded anywhere else in the world with the same results...so it is unfortunant that such a wonderful idea as using unbiased photography to bring the club to life was used in such a limited capacity...the hamc deserves a massive work in this vein...any attempt to bring the angels to the general public without including at least a glimpse of its american roots stands only to leave a sense of unfinshed business in its wake... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars wicked
Look this is not going to show you how to build a bike but it will give you some tips, some advice and imo some more inspiration. The pics are big and glossy, and it is easy to read and understand. Sure i wanted some more info but hey maybe its better not to be shown everything.

5-0 out of 5 stars Billy Lane's Book Rocks
This book was very informative on how Billy does his art of chopping. And was helpful in knowing how he does it and why. Also great listing of tools that are needed to pull this stuff off. I can't wait to buy his other book "Chop Ficition".Billy's book has definitely given me the drive to start chopping my own bikes. This book is a must for any bike builder pro or novice...
