I give quarterly supervisor training meetings with about 10 supervisors from our division. I use the activities in this book to help build communications and teamwork with the supervisors.

Creative Ideas
I selected this book in order to complete a required communications class assignment that I am presently enrolled in. The title of the book caught my attention. I am an Assessment Coordinator and I work with approximately 10 to 20 individuals at a time with a new group every three weeks. Several of the issues that I need to address that are a major concern with our clients are covered in Alanna Jone's book. These are issues dealing with self-esteem, communication, anger management, self discovery and coping skills. As instructors and parents we often find ourselves in situations where people are resistant to learning. The many reasons for this vary.

Worst writing I've read in a long time
You decide for yourself what you think about Mortenson.I think the subtitle of the book should be "How One Man Became a Dhimmi."
Put so simply...
No doubt this story seemed like an inspiring one. The question for me was, could the writer do a good job conveying it? The answer is- yes!! There are no words to describe how this story made me feel. I was moved to tears more than once. It's about time that we had something to read or listen to that speaks to the humanity of the majority of Muslims. Until now it seemed like we were given no option but to lump them all into the "fanatic" category. There was no one to speak up for the rest of the population. The story of the poor village women of Pakistan giving eggs to Greg to honor 9/11 widows was heart-wrenching. The speech by a supreme Shia ruler to a local village after 9/11 was equally gut-wrenching. Thank you to Greg Mortenson for shining a light on the region. His work building schools by working WITH tribal people of Afghanistan and Pakistan is incredibly brave. The effort taken to learn the local languages and customs is phenomenal. Thank you David Oliver Relin for bringing the story to us and for providing so much background information to help round out the story! This book helped fill so many holes in my understanding of the region. What the heck are the Taliban? Why can't Islamabad just take control of its northern region? What drives many people to choose death via "jihad" over life? I am inspired to read and understand even more about the fascinating people of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Is America more secure than on 9/11?
Besides being an exciting and courageous mission story, Three Cups of Tea is an effective alternative to Bush's so-called "compassionate conservatism" and "war on terror".

Excellent Teacher's Reference Book
A great book to help set up your class for "reading stations".

This book is very useful in setting up my Guided Reading program.It was one of the best books that I purchased for this program.It is geared more toward the actually usage of materials than to simply theory.I needed suggestions for actual activities rather simply theory.I would recommend this book to any teacher that is starting a Guided Reading program.

Tough Full Length Tests
I didnt intend to leave a review...I was infact looking for reviews of this because I gave two full-length tests and was surprised at how difficult the questions in both the quantitative and analytical sections were (Actually more surprised about my low scores). The section tests were comparitively easier.
A gud book to start with
This book is gud to begin with and also a gud book for a person who wants to get a crash course in GMAT preperations.
Kaplan is Horrible!
I got the book.Signed up for the website.Then didn't have time to study for a while because of work.When I finally had time to use the book and study, my internet access (where a lot of important suppliments are) was cut off because it was passed the assumed amount of time.I tried getting it restored, but Kaplan was no help.

Great step by step
I enjoyed this book, especially since I had a non-fluent English speaking professor we all looked into our books and read the complete, easy, and understanding chapters. this is one of the best math books I have ever had in my education experience.

Using for a class currently...
I just purchased this book brand newa few months ago.The only problem is very heavy and bulky to carry around.I appreciate Blitzer's no nonsense writing and by the way no highlighting necessary.All the key points are highlighted and pointed out.He also includes in-text exercises as well. I figure the book was worth my money but at least I understand what is printed.I also appreciate the mention of real-life applications indicated in the exercises and the sectional readings.I am not only reading the sections but appreciating all the bonus essays and definition boxes.

Hidden Gem!
I happened to find this book while browsing the teaching section.It has truly been a great resource that every (new) teacher should have.Unlike most of our teacher ed. programs, this book gives practical information about how to run a classroom.You won't regret buying this book, it is a wonderful resource!

A great resource for any teacher!
My school district gave every new teacher a copy of this book.The new teacher that I am mentoring shared it with me.After reading through it I was excited to find a book that focuses on instruction instead of some silver-bullet discipline plan.The instructional strategies are written clearly and consisely.Both of us bring our copies of Why Didn't I Learn This in College? and use them as we plan our units and lessons every Monday for the following week.I highly recommend this book to any teacher.

Good Foundational Book!
I really like the way this book is presented.It provides a really concise yet complete overview of the disabilities most commonly encountered.I also like the pages in the back of each chapter that give teaching strategies in respect to the disability discussed. This is a great book for general educators looking for some information on disabilities and for those beginning to learn about special education.This book gives a great foundation for all the other special education courses that follow it.Great book!

What I Discovered About Successful Student Discovery
This book must not be passed up by parents of students who enter classrooms and are already equipped with sufficient sensitivity, ability, motivation and innate self esteem to love learning and be successful without being discovered. I recommend it so that you may all cheerfully weather the process.Then pass the book on to your kids, parents.It is a must read for all of you.It would be an excellent required text for elementary students who are gifted in sensitivity, ability, motivation and/or innate self esteem or need for same.Ask them to examine and evaluate prize-winning teacher metacognition so as to better appreciate it and/or possibly get a leg up on it for their own present and future leadership development and advancement.Cut to the chase and involve students right up front in the shaping of the shaping of their shaping, so to speak.It is a fascinating study of the uses of power For Their Own Good and Our Own Professional Success.Every teacher and trainer of teachers should read this book in the highly likely event that their own future leadership development and advancement will be similarly shaped.Heads up!What's good for the goslings is surely good for the geese!Read it to your students and cut right to the social skills chase, why not, and stimulate some lively discussions about the meaning of success from a variety of viewpoints as well. Well-marketed fluff
The problem with American education today is not that we don't have enough teachers like Ron Clark.The problem is that teachers like Ron Clark are being presented as models of good teaching.As the posted customer reviews reveal, more and more teachers are emulating this model, and our national educational system continues its steady decline.What is this model?Clark's students have fun.They really like him.He's making "connections" with them, by taking them to basketball games, baking them cookies, playing with them during recess, and otherwise entertaining them.Sure, they're engaged in the classroom, but to what?That his lessons consist of a whim isn't important, because he puts on a darn good show.His audience - and that's what his students become - predictably comes to enjoy school.Thus he has fewer discipline problems, but probably not because of the rules he's selling here.(Aren't most kids well behaved when they're being entertained?)Some learning occurs, too, but unfortunately one of the greatest lessons his students must receive is that every gain in life ought to be loads of fun and every reward ought to immediate and tangible.For all his efforts to instill discipline, his students can't possibly have learned self-motivation.Whatever ability they have in the future to meet a challenge that involves real work and pays only in personal satisfaction will not have come from his instruction.Yes, his is an inspiring (and let's be honest, politically correct) story, and by all accounts he is a dynamic public speaker - perhaps the two essential elements in becoming Disney's Teacher of the Year.But what we have here is the same "style over substance" formula that has been ruining our nation's schools for some time. ... This book is not really helpful for teachers in methods classes. I was not impressed with the lay out, or the accessibility to information. I consider this book a waste of my money!

this books is acutally really bad and some of the people who commented here are phonies who work with Michael Lindeburg.
The book goes way over board with the material.There is such a thing as studying too little and studying too much.They are both bad.This book goes into too much detail.The actual exam is alot easier. True the gimick is "guranteed to make you pass or your money back!" but the truth is, this books covers absolutely everything and the normal person can't remember all that detail. To top it off, I read reviews here and if you noticed they're like advertisements. Good Job Michael Lindeburg for your marketing efforts too bad i'm not stupid enough for fall for your tricks. Also, Michael Lindeburg's associates wrote phony reviews to other Review Books. This dude is bad news and plays dirty. Don't buy any of his stuff. I seriously regret wasting my money on this book. And I'm for real cause I'm not mentioning another book, in fact I suggest any other book besides a Michael Lindeburg. Also, I have talked about this book with my classmates and they all feel the same way as me.
I am still waiting.....
I ordered this book on July 17, 2006 from Amazon. It has not been shipped yet. I have no clue when I am going to get it. Get your act together Amazon.

Very comprehensive review manual.Mostly consists of sample problems with solutions.If you have never studied some of the subjects, you will need other reference material than just this manual to understand them.It's a good book, but just don't expect it to be the only reference that you will need to prepare for the FE exam. ... Practical Traits
This book offers tons of practical approaches and practice scoring for the 6 Traits of Writing.It is written by a recognized master in the field and has been so helpful.

A Friendly Read
Spandel's book is an authentic, engaging, and encouraging read for those that teach writing, want help infusing writing, or want to enhance their own writing. It is written conversationally and is well supported with numerous examples. I found it visually appealing as a reader and insightful. (Another review didn't like the visuals because it isn't easy to lift examples "as is" for sharing in class. To that angle I agree, but as a reader the layout is very pleasing.) Highly recommended.

The book is great... I gave a bad review b/c of amazons way of charging me 6 dollars to read the book online when I never saw any print about that... I didn't want to pay for that, and there is no way they going to let me get out of paying it.I would recomend this boook to any one intersted in A+ certification, however buy the book from anyone outside of amazon.

A Must Have for those who teach Reading

I Read It, but I Don't Get It: Comprehension Strategies for Adolescent Readers
This is one of the most helpful books about teaching struggling readers that I've ever read.The strategies were immediately applicable to my work with learning disabled teenagers, and the book is written in a very clear and conversational style.It's like sitting down for a great discussion with a master reading teacher.Highly recommended.
