A thoughtful, pleasant read
I too enjoyed this book immensely. If you are looking for the answer to life or a big philosophical revelation-you probably won't find it here though. The tales are short, simple and very reflective of the life of regular folks and the things they have faced. I thought it also gave a very good look atolder"folks". So many times they are relegated to having no particular importance or nothing to say inin today's busy world of the young. Here folks talk of sorrow, triumph, love, joy and regret -the emotions that span a lifetime.

If you don't like it now, you will once you are older
I think those who gave this book a poor review did not give it a deep enough reading to see depth in this book. What's worth knowing addresses mundane topics, but that is the point. Some people go through life looking for what isn't there, missing out on what is. Those same people finding something missing in the book. This book won't tell you the cosmic answers for how to live your life. It will show you that there aren't any cosmic answers, just simple ones, and different ones for different folks. And the book shows that elders are just folks, regular folk in older bodies. This book is a valiant effort to combat ageism.

A new cultural war for the 21st Century
Gullete's observation that "We are aged more by culture than by chromosomes" piqued my curiosity enough to buy the book...and then WOW!When I started to read it I couldn't put it down. It is scholarly,informative and clearly articulates the reality and pernicious nature of what our culture does to "aging"....and what we do to ourselves by buying into this cultural ideology. Forgetting Is the Worst Part...

Fast-paced, Compelling, and Educational
I found "Is Your Parent in Good Hands?" to be extremely well written and a compelling story of one man's struggle to protect his aging father from elder abuse.Mr. Carnot's personal story was riveting.And I learned a wealth of information, including Medicare and health insurance considerations, tips on finding a caregiver for a senior citizen, and suggestions on how to help elderly people remain happy and active during their golden years. I couldn't put it down!
Edward J. Carnot's book, Is your parent in good hands? is riveting. Once I picked it up I couldn't put it down which is something that is more usual for suspense novels than for works of non-fiction. Using the story of what happened to his father as a framework, Mr. Carnot mixes suspense with solid information that will be helpful to anyone responsible for elderly relatives, whether they live nearby or across the country.Read more

Sue E, Meiner is a nurse practitioner in private practice and has taught nursing. Annette G. Lueckenotte is a gerontologic clinical nurse specialist. There are 22 contributing authors. Only one was apparently a contributing author to the last edition. The contributing authors for the previous two editions are listed.
Good reference for use with nursing the elderly

Way over 50!
I couldn't give this book 5 stars because, although it looks like a great book in and of itself, it should be titled, "Fitness Over 65" since most of the quotes, stories and photos are of people well over the age of 50, and more like over 65. Keep in mind if you are 52, like me, that with very little current exercise you might be better physically fit and beyond the simple exercises in this book. It's VERY basic. But if you haven't done anything beyond sitting on your couch munching chips and watching the tube your whole life, this book would be a perfect way to break into beginning to get fit.

This book is chock-full of speciousnonsense,employingsuperficial and misleading use of statistics,worst-case scenarios, and outright horror stories more designed to frighten and divide different elements of the American electorate for crass conservative political purposes than it is an objective and useful text about the subject at hand. What neo-conservative apologist Mr. Pete Petersen and the think-tank (isn't that an absolute oxymoron?) he's associated with doesn't want you to know is that our heroes in the U.S. Congress have been systematically frittering away the 'surplus' money all we aging soon-to-be-seniors have been contributing since the late 1960s in order to hide their own profligate and irresponsible spending agendas like STAR WARS and the new missile defense system that can't tell a warhead from a drone.
