4-0 out of 5 stars A useful resource...
Linda Bowman, author of the FREE Stuff and Good Deals series of books, has cobbled together a fine resource for seniors in this book. The book is chiefly a reference work. It is loaded with information on low-cost entertainment, active lifestyle ideas, travel resources (the section I enjoyed most), financial and legal tips, senior learning tools, and health related information. Some of the resources and sites that she referred to will be added at ElderHope.com! FREE Stuff is a book of references and ideas and, as such, should serve you well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Should be titled "For Folks Over 65"
This is a very good resource for seniors, but the title is rather misleading. Most of the deals are for the over-65 crowd. Too many don't specify the age requirement, and it can be frustrating to call or write, only to find you don't qualify. I would highly recommend this for anyone collecting Social Security; those younger will find themselves in the unusual position of wishing they were older.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific ideas!
OK, who wants to admit they are over 50? But its a great resource for busy people who don't have time to do all the legwork themselves. One deal and you've made back the price of this book! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Grown-ups
Actually, this is edited by Pat Thane. It includes essays by like-minded, somewhat creative, social historians. This is more of a coffee-table book, with some scholarly tendencies. The images are high-resolution, well-chosen, and beautifully printed.the layout is fabulous. In terms of content, there's nothing spectacular or innovative here but the research and analysis is solid.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have book for your library
I purchased this book for my philosophy class--Philosophy and Old Age--and have not been disappointed. The art work is extraordinary and allows one to not only read about the historical views of aging but to also see old age depicted throughout history in the art work from the Greek and Roman worlds to the 20th century. I have to say this is one textbook I was assigned to buy that I have not regretted paying the price (and it was much less than a textbook, I might add!). It would be perfect on the coffee table and should be somewhere that others can pick it up and browse through it. No matter what age one is, this book will grab the reader from the beginning, will make one think about his or her own life, will enlighten with its well-researched info, and will stay with the reader long after the reading ends. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars The 'Cheerful' Side of Aging
Betty Friedan wrote The Fountain of Age as a journey to redefine age, and to demystify the age mystique. Each chapter stands alone as an essay, exploring the many tribulations of old age.She allows us to follow her on this journey, which she starts at the age of 60 with her own fears and denial of aging, and ends with the celebration of age.5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read!
I'm only forty and was drawn to this book because of what Betty Friedan has created for women in this century.I was delightfully surprised tofind a book about "aging" was engaging for me.Her wonderfulinsights and perspectives have forever changed my outlook on getting older, and the examples and studies she cites have challenged not only mystereotypes, but allows me to challenge those of friends, families anddoctors! This is a must read, REGARDLESS of your age!Perhaps even, theyounger you are (to an extent!), the more profound these realities will be. I really enjoyed the audio book, which she reads herself, and plan topurchase the hard copy to have on hand to read again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not too popular a book
The fact that there is only 1 customer review on this tome of a book does not diminish its importance. It simply validates what the author is saying about people denying they're getting older. My zen book comforts me: Forthe ignorant, old age is winter; For the learned, it is harvest.Sincethis book was published Friedan has written yet another book, anautobiography. I am impressed with her vigor and intelligence. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ready To Tell It Again
I wrote this short story, as I am disable, but working. It's been 14 years since the accident, and my life changed forever.Without words to match the feelings, words are the tool's of thought's and believing that I can do it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ready To Tell It Again
I wrote this book, as I am disable, but working. It's been 14 years since the accident, and my life changed forever

5-0 out of 5 stars Especially helpful and filled with new perspectives.
This is the first (and only, so far) book that gives the perspectives of everyone involved when someone has a debilitating stroke. It is a surprisingly well-organized collection of essays from individual doctors, medical prsonnel, caregivers --through to the stroke patient, himself. Perhaps the best essay is is saved for the end of the book.It is writtenby the editor, Dr. Wallace Sife.He explains the two sides to healing:medical and spiritual.Nobody had ever written about that, and it is soimportant that it be addressed.Dr. Sife has given enlightenment and hopeto his all his readers. This book is especially helpful for the strokepatient and his loved ones. They are scared, and need this kind ofpractical explanation, which is put into easily understandable, non-medicalterms. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Comforting & Practicle Info
After checking this book from the library, I purchsed a copy as a reference. The author gives practicle activities which enable the caregiver and the patient to survive dementia with dignity.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not helpful if you're looking for practical activity ideas
I'm an occupational therapist looking for specific ideas for activities that will interest dementia patients who can't participate in bingo and the other activities offered by a poorly run activities program in a typical nursing home. The dementia unit described in this book sounds wonderful, but not easily found in a long term care setting. Once again, I've found a book with great ideas that are impossible to carry out in the real world of long term care.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a helpful book for family caregivers
It would have been useful to know, before purchasing this book, that most of the activities it describes are for use in group settings. As caregiver for a family member with dementia, I was hoping to find more material suited to one-on-one situations. While some of the activities can be adapted to the needs of individuals, the book as a whole doesn't provide much help for those living with a person who suffers from dementia.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down
Great book.I couldn't put it down.Very inspirational. Each of the stories were only a few pages long which made it nice if you didn't have a lot of time on your hands at one sitting. The author gives you complete freedom to come to your own conclusions as to why these special people lived so long.I never write reviews, but went on-line to buy another book like it and just decided to brag about it.It is a super book to put in your on your coffee table or guest room.

4-0 out of 5 stars Earth's Elders: The Wisdom of the World's Oldest People
I enjoyed the book very much. The essays in the beginning of the book were outstanding and reading a short bio of each of the supercentenarians was fascinating.Though they were from all over the globe, they all shared many of the same habits and spirituality. And since the book was edited by a photgrapher, the pictures really captured the essence of each elder.Overall, a very life affirming, positive and spiritual book.

4-0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable read.
Very good book. Worth the read but I had hoped for more. I would have liked to hear more insights on what each wished they had done in life (regrets), what they were glad they had done, maybe more advice to pass on to us. I realize many were failing in health but still maintained their spirit. I suspect interviewing subjects "over 90" instead of 110 may have offered us more. Good photographs. Again, worth the read and touching at times. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Erin Hits Homer Again!
Ms. Sullivan's latest book is the one you've been waiting for whether you know it or not!
5-0 out of 5 stars Erin has done it again!
As a Professional Astrologer myself, I have a very high standard when it comes to Astrological literature that is put on the market today.Erin Sullivan is by far one of the best writers out there. Every book she has written stands as a classic on its own, this book is no exception. Her contributions the field of Astrology via this book are too enormous to fully write about. This is a must for anyone going through mid-life transition that is seeking to understand more fully how the energy of that cycle can best be utilized and navigated, especially within the backdrop of larger socio-cultural evolution.5 HUGE STARS from me.Every Astrologer should have this book!
