Editorial Review

Dr. Ruth Westheimer giving advice to grandparents? Yes--the sexual relations expert is now a proud grandmother of three, and she's got plenty of grandparenting information, advice, and resources to share with families. Areas of discussion include, but are not limited to, common concerns (spare the rod and spoil the child?), the developing relationship of grandparenting, choosing your grandparenting style, grandparents and divorce, and the ever-changing definition of "family." With intelligence and wit, Westheimer "offers valuable insights into a rewarding and complex relationship that unites generations." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Reading
Janet Weinbergs book "Still Going Strong" is wonderful. Very much worth reading. Each womans poetic verse or story is an insight of her life and emotions.
5-0 out of 5 stars i love this book
I am 82 years old and was feeling pretty down about it--until I read this book.I can honestly say it was life-changing.Not that the book says everything about getting old is fun and games but the wonderful collection does affirm what it means to be a mature woman and made me appreciate what 8 decades of experience have given me. Besides that, it was a pleasure to read.Every selection is so different, it's like a kaleidescope of views of aging.

4-0 out of 5 stars Does life go downhill after 50? NOT!

5-0 out of 5 stars '...throws light on the pathways which lead to homelessness.
This is a remarkable book, based on Maureen Crane's many years of acquaintance with homeless older people. It throws light on the pathways which lead to homelessness, and should be required reading not only forpolicy makers in this field, but all those interested in the vicissitudesof the human life course.

5-0 out of 5 stars 'a definitive scholarly work on homelessness...'
This definitive scholarly work on homelessness among the ageing will be of use to practitioners, planners and academics in the United States as well as United Kingdom. Synthesising current literature on homelessness andhomeless elders from America, Europe and Britain, the book complementsavailable research on the poorest, most vulnerable, and marginalized amongtoday's elders. Using dispassionate social science this ethnographic studyargues for more compassionate treatment of a group of ageing people barelynoticed in public policy.

5-0 out of 5 stars 'a book that will be of immense value...'
Drawing on 10 years experience of working with the elderly homeless, Maureen Crane, has produced a book that will be of immense value to those who wish to understand more about this growing social problem.Regardlessof the many and varied reasons why some older men and women becomehomeless, Maureen Crane's book demonstrates that the pathways out ofhomelessness all involve basic concepts of social justice: namely that theelderly homeless are entitled to access the same levels of housing and agedcare services that the rest of the community takes for granted. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting and varied
This book consists of a collection of papers about people's images of home. The volume is divided into 4 parts: Changing images of the ideal home; Betwixt and between: homes in transition; Anxieties and risks: homes in danger; and Changing perceptions of home. The first part, changing images of the ideal home, focuses mainly on British homes and British attitudes towards home.Much of the remaining material, however, could easily be generalized to cover Western attitudes towards housing and home.Tony Chapman's paper "You've got him well trained': the negotiation of roles in the domestic sphere is a particularly well-done exploration into sources of social attitudes towards sharing housework.Overall, this book provides some extremely interesting vantage points of many different aspects of domestic life, especially in 21st century England.Anthropologists, sociologists, and feminists will all find something of interest in this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Humor and Laughter Happens
Nardi Campion, a prolific NH writer, gives the aging process a light and humorous observation as she ages.On the other side of 65, I laughed my way through the book because I can relate to what Nardi tells us.She is enjoying her later years in a beautiful community, most familiar to a lot of people--Lebanon near the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Hospital. Her abandonment of driving gave me ideas to apply to my mother-in-law who is 90.She is feisty and determined to do everything she can without help, if possible. The opportunities are endless when one way to do things no longer work. The episode of her hitchhiking was too much. Perfectly sane in that area of our state. She describes aging as the epitome of living.I highly recommend this book if aging is of concern.Marion E Cason, Reviewer ... Read more

So helpful, so much I didn't know, so easy to read, such a needed book, loved it, refer to it constantly. How are we all going to get through all the years of care-giving that are ahead of us Baby Boomers?!
