Not worth your time!
I found this book totally worthless. While I am not a professional mechanic, I do have many hours of experience and this book was filled with mostly 'general information'. The electrical drawings are no where near accurate and caused me many hours of misdirection.Read more

Great detailed history of AC Cars and the Cobra's origins
I loved this book!Ok, so I'm a diehard Cobra enthusiast, but I found the details of AC Cars' history to be fascinating.There are also excellent details about Carroll Shelby and how the deal came together between Ford, AC Cars, and his own fledgling company, Shelby American. Factually complete, nice pictures, but dull.
This is a great book if you love the subject, but it gets tedious at times. Good information about the heroes and the villains (Ferrari), especially the early days with Carroll Shelby. However, the endless recitalof race results gets boring. Only one chapter about the Daytona Coupe.Wraps-up nicely with a "where are they now" section. I would haveliked more about the races and the drivers who built the Cobra legend.Still, if you love Cobras and like to drool over pictures of the originalcars, this book is for you. ... Read more

A brief summary of BMW.
An interesting book with nice photographs and printed on good quality paper.Bit light on for detail.If you like plenty of colour photos and something to read then this book is okay.

... Mostly unenganging, poor on historical details, and basically your boring coffe table book about BMW. I got the feeling while reading this book that this must be your standard issue info book at BMW's musseum in Munich. (I got as close as the Olympiad Colisseum so I cannot testify to that personally.) Read more

Great read, Lots of Info, Slightly 'Pro-War'
I am a big Hummer fan and hope to own an H1 someday soon. Halfway into the book I was getting a bit tired of the pro-war rhetoric. Lots of background info though. Well researched. A must for every true Hummer fan!

ATrip Back in Time
This book brought back many memories as well as answering a lot of questions that weren't really important but that I had always wondered about over the years. In 1949 when I was 17 or so and building an A/V8 roadster in Iowa, I ordered a dual manifold and heads from Edelbrock and they showed up in a plain box and wrapped in the LA newspaper. My decision was based on what little information I could glean from "Hot Rod Magazine" and the "SCTA News". Vic Senior's stuff seemed to be the best available and I was well satisfied with it's preformance. This book only reaffirmed this belief and proved that Edelbrock still stood for product quality and an honest business enviroment. The only criticism I have is that toward the end it was beginning to sound like an "infomercial" but since Edelbrock was paying the bill, I understand. This book brought to life my many "Hot Rod Heroes" whom I always wanted to know better but never could. Getting to know the Edelbrock family life story was a bonus too.

Marion equipment
This book was full of helpful information and great photos of the equipment.The photos showed the full machine, from the end of the boom to the ground.The captions were explicit and informative, including such items as how many were constructed, boom length, bucket capacity, years of production, and weight.It's an easy read and a marvelously helpful reference.The photographs were in no particular order, but this turned out to be only a minor negative because of the index at the back of the book listing the model numbers and the page. ... The book of big chrome
Certainly a neat idea for a book: to see how Detroit created car sales with ads brimming with extravagant headlines, copy and visuals.I bought this book years ago and this is a timely reprint but I doubt I would have bought it now.This is because of the production, all the lovely ads have just been copied as whole originals without taking the trouble to separate the color graphics from the flat color headlines and copy.Doing it this way means that none of the photos or illustrations sparkle and frequently the ad copy is very light and not too readable.
Poor Quality Production
If you're looking for vintage car ads, pass this by. The reproduction quality is very poor. Many of the ads were cropped badly, and much of the text is not readable. It's obvious that many of these must be amateur scans of magazine ads and not the original source material. I'd love to seea professional-quality re-work of this subject matter.

Nifty 50s Reference

Strong Design Rescues Chrysler (Again)
Modern Chrysler Concept Cars illustrates how concept car designs spurred another business recovery of Chrysler during the 1990s. The storyline is how Tom Gale's daring cab-forward and retro design concepts (again) rescued Chrysler from post-Iacocca business doldrums. The book gives a great birdseye view of the business value of pushing beyond current design boundaries through the voice of Chrysler design honcho,Tom Gale. On this basis alone it should probably be required reading for students of car design.Buy this book for its business lesson about the business power of design and for its great photos of handsome cars, not for revelations of the visual keys to car design.

I thought this book would be the usual pointless gushing, with lots of pictures and no information. Well, there's lots of pictures, all in color, along with sketches.
