I got everthing I needed here
This has been money well spent,I am happy I got it and everyone who cant leave their car alone should own it. Not for the faint hearted or old fashioned fuel injection systems.

A good read, with a few shortcomings.
Overall this was a worthwhile book to read, especialy for someone like myself trying to learn a little more about engine tuning in general.I thought the author jumped around a bit on different topics, it could have flowed from one topic to another in a more logical order.There was also a bit of repetition, as though topics were pulled from previously written articles.I found the cases studies to be worthless - one or two would have sufficed.The font could also be a bit larger.Those nit pickings aside, I learned a great deal from this book, which was what I was hoping for.

Holy Cow Why Didn't I Find This Book Sooner?
I have a few books from the "Motorbooks Workshop" series and I am happy with all of them -in fact I'm kicking around the idea of building a library of them for myself, as they are all instant reference books full of valuable information. I could waste a weekend away just thumbing through them.

Totally Clueless
If you read, or are at least amused by, the lunacy of San Francisco newspapers, then you'll understand the title to this review.Ms. Prange is a regular contributior to the Letters to the Editor page.She lives in an alternate universe where reality has no meaning.However, consistent whining, paranoia, and conspiracy theories abound.I can't imagine anyone following her advice or that of her husband based on their irrational logic.And you want to get behind the wheel of a car designed by them? I believe Ms. Prange's latest project is constructing a house that resembles a pair of Birkenstocks.

Its a start, but.....I want to convert my car to hybrid
Conversion to electric cars is a step in the right direction, but even an electric car has to be charged. What does one do when local electricity costs are sky high? While electric cars have their place, more immediate and practical methods may better inspire society at large to consider and implement ideas of fuel efficiency and sustainability.
A Classic
Having built and developed several electrical vehicles and prototypes, I put this book up there among the classics as a good introduction for anyone interested in building an electrical conversion vehicle.I worked on my first vehicle in 1989 and I wish that I had some of the helpful hints that are provided in this book to asist me along.By the way, ironically, possessing two PhD,s ; one in in Electrical Engineering, I have been struck by lightening twice. helping me understand how a car operates
I changed jobs and became a parts delivery person.The knowledge I have received from the book as helped me in knowing what my customers are talking about and thus can relate messages to the sales staff.For my job and personally, I like knowing what the function of the parts are and where they are located. I am so glad to have the book. It was well written and made learning easy.

Too much old crap and unnecessary info!
The diagrams in the book where nice, but man this guy isn't an author. You can tell he knows what he is talking about but he just uses a lot of lingo. Thankfully, there is a glossary, but it takes too long to look up every word. He just tells you the different parts in mechanisms. He doesn't really explain how anything works. By the way, he has like 5 nicknames for every part. If you are a beginner too complex, if your an expert you probably know this stuff. If you have the money and your an amateur go ahead. If none of the above I wouldn't suggest this book.

No good
The author is an owner and operator of a tutoring center. He is not an expert in auto mechanics.As he points out on the back cover the pictures and the concepts were for teenage boys and the accompanying graphics are of poor quality.

A Cook-Book of Mathematical Formulae
I cannot imagine that this book has been written by Van Trees. I was a fan of him after studying his 1st and third volumes during my MSc, but taking a course on Array Signal Proc. and Adaptive Array Sig. Proc. in the next one, i was ehgulfed in mathematics and only mathematics, with no intuitional background at all. The author only has given mathematics, not have grip on the theoretical concepts or may be he has failed to convey them. I will never tell anybody about this book for this course, its for sure.
Great academic reference - Practitioners: Use with caution!
This book is the fourth book in Dr van Trees' series "Detection, Estimation, and Modulation Theory". It relies extensively on volumes I and III (but not volume II), and the reader of volume IV will want to have volumes I and III available. Read more

Not a Good Book For Canadian Built Cars
This book is very good if you have a US built Chevelle. Has no Info on Canadian Built Chevelles. You can find more info on the web than what's in this book.

Great for Everything!
We have had this book ever since we restored a 1970 ElCamino.We are currently in the middle of a 1971 Monte Carlo, and although some of the information is different, much of it is accurate for the MC as well.Ourfriends borrow this book so often we have to sign it out to them. Currently it is invaluable in researching a 1975 Nova.As with the MC,most of the information is the same (paint codes, etc.).I highlyrecommend this book to anyone researching their car!

Bemtley Saab 900 16 Valve Official Service Manual 1985 through 1993
It is a great manual and is what I've come to expect from all Bentley publications.

Strictly for the pro
As the description clearly indicates, this is the service manual for professionals. Period. It's as dry and detailed as as you would expect prose written by swedish auto engineers to be. There is nothing to read, no anecdotes nor unofficial tips or fixes. Use it if you are a black belt in mechanics or keep it in the trunk for the day a mechanic who doesn't know your car has to work on it. Nao espere muito deste livro.
Se voce esta procurando um livro que ensine como montar um "gaiola" ou "dune bug", esqueca este livro. Ele fala muito sobre motor, freio, etc. Sobre a estrutura, ou "frame", so da algumas dicas de como procurar para comprar. Ridiculo ne !

Very good book, a lot of very valuable information on SB and BB chevy motors. Saves you time and money running to the parts store to run the casting numbers. If your a chevy lover or in to building SB and BB Chevy motors I definately recommend this book.

Old is GOLD! Remarkable collection of topics and problems...
Van Trees, Part I (together with Wozencraft/Jacobs' Principles of Communication Engineering, and Gallager's Information Theory) is a must read to establish a solid background in detection/estimation theory and form connections to applications such as communications engineering and information theory.

Great for a beginner, nearly worthless for more advanced readers
Another book that I had high hopes for, only to be let down. I was looking for some real insider secrets from a leading engine builder. I spent 10 years in the engine rebuilding business and now do it only as a hobby. I am always on the lookout for great books on the subject. This book is not one of them. Smokey Yunick's Power Secrets is a much better buy, although it doesn't talk about fuel injection. If you are a beginner in the engine building world, then by all means read this book, then read Smokey's Power Secrets.

This is the Chevy small block book I was looking for.
Finally, someone wrote a book for me. The book "John Lingenfelter on Modifying Small-Block Chevy Engines: High Performance Engine Building and Tuning for Street and Racing" is the book I have been looking for.

Wow, where do I begin? John Lingenfelter is like the god of small block Chevy's. I love his approach of bigger isn't better. It's how everything is in tune with every component of the car. Outstanding and thourough
This book is exceptional and details all the finer points that you must know when thinking about, or have purchased one of these fine cars. Take the time and read through this book and it will give you years of knowledge. The book will also educate you as to the correctness of the Chevrolet you either have, or are looking at. It also will help verify myths with acctual facts and documentation as tho the true nature of the cars and their history.

Chevy by the Numbers 1965 - 1969
By using this book, I figured out what year and model the block, heads and assembly date were for the motor in my 1956 Chevy Nomad. I new nothing about the motor. I now know what I have.

Tire Traction Contents
I am an engineer qualified to carry out a technical review of the tire traction portion of this book. Mr. Haney is mostly wrong about tire traction. He has not put forward a scientifically based explanation of how it works. I have informed SAE International, in detail.

Any information about tires is a treasure!
The tire is the most important part of an automobile, and the least covered by the literature. That's why any information about tires is a treasure. Thecomplexity of the structure and behavior of the tire are such that no complete and satisfactory theory has been propounded. Books on vehicle dynamics are available but they are mostly written by academics who emphasize mathematical rather than clear explanation of how things really work. The tire might be the most useful and complicated device humans make, but the tire manufacturers provide no useful information to their customers. People are forced to buy tires mainly on the basis of price and company reputation. Even race teams get tire data only sporadically, and that data is pretty useless anyway. Tire performance is necessarily highly dynamic, but tire data comes mainly from testing under static conditions.
A technical book that you can't put down?
Beleive it or not, this technical book had me glued to its pages like a great work of fiction. Haney is an excellent writer, and the 'meat' of the text is intertwined with great real-world stories and examples from motorsport. Interviews with Mario Andretti, Dan Gurney, as well as other less famous but no less competent vehicle dynamic experts are included. Read more

Excellent reference for building a performance Mopar
I'm not quite sure what other reviewers read, but this is not a book for standard rebuilds. This covers performance work only, and would not be a guide for the first-timer. It contains info on building up circle-track,drag, and street/strip cars, with general advice and specific part numberand machining spec's.The book is written with a heavy factory-slant, asmany of the parts and suggestions concern Mopar-sold parts. There's nothingwrong with that, as a lot of fast Chryslers run Mopar-brand equipment. Thethank-you list in the front reads like a who's- who of Chrysler racinghistory, and some of them work at Chrysler to this day, so this isn't someguy out in left field telling you to slap a 800 CFM carb on your 1978 LeanBurn 318 and go Corvette hunting- he and his advisors know small blockChryslers better than almost anybody else I can think of. I've known orworked with several of them, and they've turned out an impressive pile offast engines over the years. All right for LS1 novices
First off this book is very basic.The author reveiles some performance combos that can be beneficial to the novice crowd, but for anyone has researched the great gen. III small block, this book is a too redundant.My advice to anyone who wants to learn more about the LS1 should look it up online for free. Chevy LS1/LS6 Performance....misses the mark.

The ideal guide for rebuilding small block ford engines.
Before you read up further,this book doesnt cover the 351 Cleveland engine.

The BEST Available..
I've purchased almost all Ford SB Windsor literature.. this particular book is absolutely the Best I got.I'm not saying it's perfect, but still is unique in a way that it illustrates how to carry out performance assemblies step by step.. such as building a 347 cid stroker, porting a head, installing force induction stuff, timing a cam or tuning a carb (I use EFI but it's good to know how).This book is not another performance parts catalog in the shape of a "book"!This one is very similar to what you can find on the tech pages of websites such as FordMuscle.com, CarCraft.com, MustangandFords.com ... I Returned This Book
This book is not at all what I expected.It is a *really* basic approach to how this stuff works.No real theory at all.I decided to return it within ten minutes of receipt.I like Watson's style, but I did not likethe book. It would be good for a newbie who doesn't know anything yet.Abetter title would be 'General Information on Really, Really BasicPrinciples of Automotive Operations:With EFI' or 'Induction for Dummies:When to Use a Dual-Plane Intake'.The book is mistitled; I'd give it 2.5stars, but the title gets Zero stars.

Watson's book is quite informational, though I have to admit I did not read it cover to cover.I assumed that the book was written for hints and formulas to custom fabricate intake manifolds and exhaust headers.I wasincorrect, the book explains several different types of intakes, and such,covering carburetors, forced induction, emissions, exhaust, and the likes. Unsatisfactory
Amazon indicated this item was in stock when I ordered it more than a week ago.I got an Email today telling me it hasn't shipped yet, but is "in process" and I will get it 23 Feb (2 more weeks).They also say I can't change my order now since it's "in process".I figured it's because they probably don't really have it in stock, so I went to the order page and they say there that it's in stock and would ship in 2 to 3 days (same as when I ordered).I'll never place another order with Amazon.They can keep the book and my money.They don't offer a link, phone number, or anything to contact their customer service, so I used this forum. I don't like being treated this way.

Best book for you newbies
This is by far the best book on rebuilding big block mopars for novices out there. Step my step instructions tons of pictures and information. If you have never rebuilt an engine before i recomend this book

Some Things Just Make You Smile
Great book-I love things that make you feel happy.Books like this do that.It is FUN to research information from the past.This book is on car parts research and is a great help to all that enjoy original.I love books like this.
