Review of From Neurons to Neighbourhoods.
I purchased this book, because I am doing a Graduate Diploma in Maternal & Child Health in Australia. Many of our lecturers were taking quotes from this book and referring to Jack Schonkoff's remarks contained within, pertaining to new evidence on myelination and the importance of interaction and stimulation of small children and the relationship between this and brain growth. It is easy to read and I am confident that both the lay person and health professional alike will glean valuable insight.I find myself constantly referring to this book and know that this will have an effect on my future practice as a Maternal and Child Health Nurse.

Great resource!
An amazing breadth and depth of neuroscience and its implications for how we treat children.Must reading for anyone wishing to get beyond prejudice and rhetoric to the core of what needs to be done in public policy to protect and preserve childhood in modern America.Should be 5 stars, but now a little dated, although references are excellent and it's not hard to follow the themes into the most recent research.

excellent resource for teachers and to-be teachers!!
I am taking a class right now about the art expereinces of young children and this is the required text for the class. I must say the book is very impressing. It goes quite into detail about the vast benefits of art for young children and also the developmental stages and such. The great thing about this book is that in each chapter it has TONS of projects and ideas that you can implement in your classroom in the future. There are also lots of recipes for several types of playdough (edible, smelly, etc.) and other things. It's such a great resource...I'm not selling this book back! :-)

Tobin et al compare preschools in Japan, the US and China in a fascinating cross-cultural study. What makes this study so compelling is that you hear not only the authors' interpretations of what they see, but also the opinions of the teachers, administrators and the parents OF ALL THREE CULTURES. By having parents, teachers and administrators watch video tapes of the preschools in the non-native country, you get an eye-opening assesment of what each preschool is trying to do in its culture and how it compares with what other preschools accomplish. Decent Also-Ran In A Very Crowded Field
So many introductory early childhood education books exist for college classes!It reminds me of a excellent year for movie-actors:so many excellent Oscar-worthy performances that would get nominated/win in a less competitive year get shut out of the academy awards that categories face much controversy.

Happy mom of child in biting phase
This book was a godsend - both for the practical advice for parents, but because if the problem is happening at daycare, there's little a parent can do from work.This book is written from the point of view of childcare/daycare experts and provides practical advice for addressing the problem positively and gently from within the daycare (in partnership with parents).
