5-0 out of 5 stars Speech
I trully enjoyed this book, even though I am not a fan of text books. It has helped me develop stronger speaking skills, and I am not very good at public speaking. It's not a how to book, its simply a guide which offers tips and ideas on how you should present various topics.

5-0 out of 5 stars FINALLY, Someone who can teach public speaking!
As a college instructor of oral communication for ten years, I complained bitterly about the poor selection of books for beginning students--until now. This is the single best book of its kind on the market, bar none.In all my years, I've never had students brag on a book like this one: easy to read, well-organized, thoughtful, practical, visually attractive, and substantive. My best compliment is that I can teach three times the material in half the time just by using this text--and people understand it!I can't brag enough on the author's work. This is phenomenal.ANYONE who wants to master the basics of public speaking should read this cover to cover. The principles and techniques Mr. Gregory describes are effective, powerful, and described in a simple way.BRAVO!I'll recommend this to everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD!
I'm a student at a local college here in Jersey City. I found this book very easy to read but doesn't defeat the purpose to inform. I really wish I can have him as my teacher.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book - easy to read, informative
I really liked this SEO book. It is easy to read, entertaining (which isn't easy to do for SEO) and is laid out in a easy to follow, logical order. If you are a beginner or a professional this book will help you in your opimization efforts.

1-0 out of 5 stars Written only for the Marketing Department
If you're looking for actual instructions on how to improve your Web site's code or design to be better optimized for search engines, then don't read this book. This book is written for the Marketing Department of a middle- to large-size company. It should be called, "Search Engine Optimization; An hour of paperwork a day." It's all about how to track campaigns and other esoteric tasks that have no value for someone actually doing the work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for amateurs and professionals as well.
I have never purchased any book on SEO before as I assumed the content would be too dated.

Editorial Review

The largely blue collar citizens of Kansas can be counted upon to be a "red" state in any election, voting solidly Republican and possessing a deep animosity toward the left. This, according to author Thomas Frank, is a pretty self-defeating phenomenon, given that the policies of the Republican Party benefit the wealthy and powerful at the great expense of the average worker. According to Frank, the conservative establishment has tricked Kansans, playing up the emotional touchstones of conservatism and perpetuating a sense of a vast liberal empire out to crush traditional values while barely ever discussing the Republicans' actual economic policies and what they mean to the working class. Thus the pro-life Kansas factory worker who listens to Rush Limbaugh will repeatedly vote for the party that is less likely to protect his safety, less likely to protect his job, and less likely to benefit him economically. To much of America, Kansas is an abstract, "where Dorothy wants to return. Where Superman grew up." But Frank, a native Kansan, separates reality from myth in Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing book for understanding why "they" vote like that!
The book demonstrates with eloquence and grace how "values voters" are duped into voting for an economy they probably disagree with. The book points out how abortion, gay rights, family values, tv violence, rap lyrics and the rest are all tools that are used to "fire up the base" but they are NEVER acted upon, and they never WILL be acted upon in anything but the most lip-servicey ways....
5-0 out of 5 stars Must read for all Americans
Gives a very interesting view on how we got into this predicament and why people in general will vote against their own interests.

1-0 out of 5 stars A question the liberal elites can not answer
Frank as well as the liberal elites, just don't get it.That is why they are asking this question. Liberal elites are constantly mocking and discriminating against middle America.I am proud to be from middle America. There is no mystery as to why we vote Republican. We have not been tricked to vote Republican, we vote for candidates that have values, morals, love of our country and respect for each other; from life to death. There is more to life than how much money you have, the car you have or house you own.We are not impressed with wealth and power. These are the things that the elitist will never get.Kansas is beautiful, the people are relaxed, educated and extremely friendly. There is simply nothing wrong with Kansas.Instead, it should be a model for both the east and west coasts. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Accurate and informative depiction of Asian Americans
As an international Asian student majoring in Clinical Psychology, Sue's understanding of and advice for the Asian American clientele in relation to intrapsychic, interpsychic, and sociopolitical issues resonate accurately with my limited personal and clinical experiences.
5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT
Well written, covers a broad range of ideas and topics. An excellent resource for Multicultural Therapy. The language is simple yet comprehensive, easy to read but informative.
2-0 out of 5 stars They meant well
It is sad that the book used by so many schools to introduce therapists to the subject of cultural diversity is a collection of generalized stereotypes. The first few chapters are dedicated to showing white people how wrong, misguided, and privileged they are. They group all white people into one defined category of unintentionally delusional racists. Their argument is that psychotherapy, in its current state, works for white people and not other minorities.Though, in some aspects, this may be true, their tone implies that this is because the creators were racist. What the Sues fail to point out is that the creators were not necessarily racist, they were white, they knew about white culture, and developed theories based on their experiences. It is my hope that the Sues will change the tone of their book before its next printing as it can turn away people who do not feel like defending themselves against their stereotypes. If you have not been assigned this book for a class, you may be better off reading something else until the Sues are able to let go of their own racist biases. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
The world is full of experts at what is wrong with the things that we do. Dr. Carver has a rock-solid, well thought out suggestion concerning how to do it right. One reviewer complained that Dr. Carver's suggestions are not realistic. Right isnot often realistic, but right is always right. It's far better to start with an ideal and compromise from that point than to capitulate from the outset. Boards that Make a Difference is well worth reading.

2-0 out of 5 stars Idealistic
The carver style of governance is a tad idealistic and perhaps overly optimistic.I have read everything Dr Carver has written concerning this field and enjoy this material at an academic level. But when it comes tooperationalizing this model in boardrooms I've seen it fail time and timeagain. Not to say that the model is flawed because in fact the model isnormative and conceptually complete. However it doesn't capture thatelement of reality from which, in my experience, the model requires -practicality and real-world application.Dr Carver's notion that Boardscan do without Finance and Audit Committees is very naive.Mostconsultants from the chartered accountant genre are saying the completeopposite. In fact most government policy initiatives are moving towardmore control of financial affairs of organizations for boards from chartsof accounts to fiscal policy. So I don't think the elimination of Financeand Audit Committees is realistic nor is it a terribly bright suggestion. I guess my only crticism is that the carver model is far to idealistic andphilosophical for a practical application in the form Dr Carver suggests. Sorry but a hybrid model of traditional Board governance and the carvermodel may work given the commitment required from directors tofollow-though on everything suggested in that system of governance,

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have for not-for-profits!
This book was the core piece of a radical change in our board room. It led us down the path we knew we wanted to go but didn't know how to get there. His model for board room organization could revolutionize boards ofcompanies in transition, like those of the rural electric program inAmerica. It's a road map for where you already know in your heart that youwant to go. ... Read more

Covenant with Black America is poignant, practical and plausible. It lays out what matters most to Black Americans.More importantly, it shows ways to achieve our goals.
4-0 out of 5 stars Despite what you've heard, not all truths are self-evident...
The Covenant with Black America is a profound literary work that reveals the truths about America and its tenuous relationship with the African-American community. After an introduction by Tavis Smiley, leading authorities cover agendas that should be of major concern to all African-Americans: healthcare, education, employment, environment, etc.

4-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive book!
A book that has helped me so far in critically thinking about conceptual frameworks and theories! I highly recommend!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I thought this book was the exact opposite of "pedantic" and "verbose." In fact, the writing style is easy to read and, at only 200 pages with big text and plenty of tables and references, is not too focused on the details - no book can with that brief page limit. Regardless, this book was my first introduction to research design and it was perfect. The templates for writing qual., quan., and mixed methods papers were basic and simple, but yet thorough.
5-0 out of 5 stars Research Design: Qualitative, Quantitative and Mixed Methods Approaches. 2nd Edition
The book was well organise in term of topic and content. The author have a good ideas when try to make a comparison between each 3 types of research design. The quotation use from scholar writing as an example make a sense to me about all part in research design. So I strongly recommend this book especially to post-graduate student who intent to write research proposal in area of humanity, social science, and psyology as well as education. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference Book!
This book has been invaluable to me for years. In coming across an animal in life or in dreams, I have derived much insight from the lifecyle and meaning of the animal, and have applied the lessons to my own life.Whether it was a blue jay dying in front of me, or an elephant communicating with me at the circus, we co-exist with the animals on this blue planet and need to hear what they are saying.I also recommend "From the Horses Mouth" by Amelia Kincade, as the best book on animal communication I have read.

I have been clutching my copy of Animal Speak for many years now.I am coming today to purchase the workbook which I just discovered and wanted to write a quick review for this amazing book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Nature speaks to you through animal sightings.
I received this book as a gift after a red tailed hawk made a visit to me every day for a week.In this book, according to Native American traditions, animals relate to us because everything in the earth is connected. There are messages being sent to us by these sightings.A fox runs out across the road (and hopefully, you miss it) not once, but three times?Red tailed hawk sitting on a street light along the highway every day for a week? All of a sudden, a squirrel comes to your yard and does something that catches your attention that you never noticed before? All of that has a message to you and you alone.I recently purchased two of these books as gifts for my sisters. And, they have shared it with their friends who have had similar sightings.Sounds kookie, I know, but it actually will make sense to you when the message is meant for you. ... Although the book was helpful...it's been a few years now since I've read it, I still don't understand why my husband has to repeat himself all the time.Especially if someone wants to converse with him.If he feels he hasn't finished his sentance and someone tries to participate he will completely and a little louder start all over again.

Patricia Evans creates a roadmap and helps you see what you may feel but not recognize. My jaw dropped eith each page and I read it twice. 4-0 out of 5 stars A Dr. Laura Avoider
I have avoided Dr. Laura, her books, and her radio program for many years, fearing she would say something about me I didn't want to recognize.Ten Stupid Things did just that. How sad it is that women have such low self-esteem(though Gangi in her book explains this more as the lack of self-love)that they feel they have to settle for whatever and, more importantly, whomever pays any attention to them. If we would think twice, look in the mirror and truly love the person looking back, maybe we could lower the count from 10 to 1 or 2.

3-0 out of 5 stars Makes good points despite brute force style
A lot of the mistakes listed in the book are dead on.For women who continue to make the same damaging choices into adulthood, this book could serve as a good wake up call.I do think the "pull yourself up by your own boot-straps" kind of advice falls short .And her own life examples of "look at me, I just willed myself to be strong" aren't exactly edifying.Someone who needs this advice the most might be turned off by her initial unsympathetic style and then not take in the good nuggets. In other cases, it could be the exact style and message someone needs.

5-0 out of 5 stars IS VOTE FRAUD JUST A HARMLESS PRANK ?
NO CONSENSUS EXISTS ABOUT THE PERVASIVENESS OF CONTEMPORARY VOTE FRAUD or the frequency with which elections are stolen.A recent bipartisan report (U.S. Election Assistance Commission, May 17, 2006)tends to minimize the phenomenon ofvote tampering as insignificant or unsubstantiated.Consequently, the message seems to be that we should forget about it and roll our eyes when cranky complainers continue to harp about vote theft.
3-0 out of 5 stars Socialism has never worked...
This book was at my local library so I decided to read it because it has received such great reviews that say like yeah that is right Bush lied, people died. First off this book was highly entertaining. Mr. Palast writes in a sarcastic tone that the reader must adjust to. The beginning of the book was really easy to read. He does not blame Bush so much as he does the Saudis. The Saudis really run our country with Bush as their puppet. Palast never accounts for the poor intelligence that the U.S had in Iraq before the war. Palast does not understand that part. I did not agree with Palast blasting Thomas Friedman as the worst thing since Bush. I respect Friedman and the work that he has done.

5-0 out of 5 stars hitlers book
the reason ichose to recomend this book is because i belive it is the only one which tells the truth about nazi germany.its really not "racist propaganda" as the school systems would have you belive but an account of a man who loved his country so much,he tried to perfect it.its basicly just a philosophy book.remember ,hitlers allies in ww2 were a half black man ,mussolini and the japanese leader.so,if you want truth, read this book.if you want a bunch of tree huggin hippie bs,read any other book on the matter.this book was the most widely owned book in the world in its day.if you cant handle the truth, steer clear.if you want the german equivelant ofthomas paines's"common sense",then read it.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Terrible Beginning Indeed
This is a very difficult book to read, not only because it is the product of the hateful and ignorant mind of a man that seized control of Germany and plunged the world into one of history's most devastating wars, resulting in the ethnic genocide of millions of Jews, Slavs, gypsies, homosexuals and others.
5-0 out of 5 stars Putrid, but Important to Take a Look at
During the Nazi Era, this book was the most un-read bestseller in Europe.Lots of people purchased the volume, but very few took the time to read it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Military ripoff
If youspent 20 years on active duty, this book is accurate, but you got all of this information when you left the military. If you had combined active duty and reserve/Guard or just reserve/guard experience, this book is misleading at best and just plain inaccurate at worse.Unless you were injured on active duty, there are very few benefits for the reserve/guard until you hit age 60, which the book fails to tell you.Sure, you get to shop in the high-priced Exchanges and Commissaries if you live close to them, and there is a slim possibility of Space Available travel, but the inconvenience makes going commercial, even with security at the commercial airports, easier.
2-0 out of 5 stars Great if you're active duty or a potential recruit
I was somewhat disappointed by this book. A veteran of three military services (but not retired), I had hoped to find some information about Veterans' programs. Instead, I found about 90% of the book to be useful only for currently-serving personnel or young men contemplating a military career. For those individuals, this book is great. For those not currently serving, I found it lackluster and loaded with information any military man could find on base with little trouble. Would I recommend this book? Not really. Would I recommend the military as a career to most young men? Absolutely. Save your money. Enlist and talk with the on-base career advisors instead for much more current information.

Editorial Review

Celebrated economist Jeffrey Sachs has a plan to eliminate extreme poverty around the world by 2025. If you think that is too ambitious or wildly unrealistic, you need to read this book. His focus is on the one billion poorest individuals around the world who are caught in a poverty trap of disease, physical isolation, environmental stress, political instability, and lack of access to capital, technology, medicine, and education. The goal is to help these people reach the first rung on the "ladder of economic development" so they can rise above mere subsistence level and achieve some control over their economic futures and their lives. To do this, Sachs proposes nine specific steps, which he explains in great detail in Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars At least it got people talking about global economics...
I really wanted to love this book. It came strongly recommended by a good friend who is very interested in development work.Whenever I read a review I always try and figure out what angle the reviewer is coming from, so for the record I'm deeply interested in development work and I have a background in economics and environmental science, but mostly I'm just really well read.
4-0 out of 5 stars why we lost the poor
The End of Poverty is an excellent book. It shows how economic thinking can provide a better wealth situation in the underdeveloped world. Jeffrey Sachs describes his last twenty years on development economics. He is the driving force behind the mayor developments in Bolivia and Poland. The book contains his experiences in Bolivia, Poland and Russia. If you introduce economic measures in these countries you can take a big step to let the people help themselves. But if you go to Africa, it seams that these measures are really not the first aid you can give them.
4-0 out of 5 stars Historic Opportunity for Our Generation
Through clear illustrations and calculations, Jeffrey Sachs lays out a very optimistic and compelling argument that extreme poverty can be ended within our generation. Two major requirements of this plan are the rich nation's commitment to debt relief and their honoring of their promises to dedicate a meager 0.7% of GNP to Official Development Assistance (ODA). If properly invested in infrastructure, health, and education (a topic well covered in the book), these funds could put the extremely poor back on the economic ladder towards growth and development. Sachs sites numerous success stories such as the Marshall Plan and the eradication of African River Blindness and Smallpox where sufficient funding and dedication successfully accomplished development objectives.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite books of all time!
This book delves deeply into the heart issues behind many of our actions. In reading this book, I was most convicted about allowing my circumstances to dictate my behavior. Nancy speaks heavily on the responsiblity we each have to find our joy in Christ and not in our circumstances, which is something that's good for every women to be reminded of.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding book for all women
This is one of the most succint and direct books I've ever read for a woman who wants to live a Godly life.I loved it so much that I bought one for my mom and best friend. She is direct and clear with her writings and I felt that it applied to all Christian women who desire to truly walk the walk.Life applicable.
2-0 out of 5 stars Lies Women Believe
This book had a lot of extreme views.Demoss generalizes constantly.I felt she twisted scripture to explain her point of view.I did gleam some good out of the book.I am a fairly new Christian and I felt it was more harmful then good.I felt it could give a Christain women a feeling there are only absolutes to God's way, that we are not individuals.I felt it weighed me down more than lifted me up.I had to go back to God's word and study because at times I felt the study was toxic.I think Demoss is very biased and narrow minded.I would especially not recommend it if you are a new Christian.I also about group study I would only recommend it if you are with seasoned Christians who are willing to be objective about this book. ...
