5-0 out of 5 stars One for your Personal Library
Here is a book you can refer to forever.Good stuff to know.
4-0 out of 5 stars Become an Informed Driver
This book was very knowledgeable on the ways cops obtain your speed as well as the faults in the types of ways they obtain it. Along with using correct and "street" terminology, it talks about the different types of radar used to pick up your speed and how they obtain your speed by pacing you. There are MANY faults and this book just confirms my prior thoughts that tickets are purely a money making scam not only for the police but for the insurance agencies as well. If nothing else buy it to be prepared when you do get pulled over as it gives you good tips on how to get away from a ticket at this early stage to. 4 out of 5 only because it does not list laws from every state just some laws from some states.

4-0 out of 5 stars Advanced Vehicle Stop!
This is a good book. It clearly tells you how to do a safe vehicle stop and the different approaches/sides you can do it and also how to do it safly. You have some good tips. It covers approaching an SUV, car, Trucks and Busses. The tactics are good. The book also cover high risk stops which cover Verbal commands, Moving occupants from Vehicle, Clearing the vehicle (not SWAT style), Clearing the trunk. Like someone elses was saying it get littlebit repetely against the end but a clearly 4 star it is.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very good, but uneven book
I first considered giving this book 5 stars, but then decided 4 would be more appropriate. The book is written in a clear and easy to read style, with some drawings and photographs. The first half of the book covers low/unknown risk stops, and the second half focuses on high risk stops.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If you must have a day in court, make it a good one!
Reading this book and following the steps gave me a VICTORY on my day in court. This book, a great list of questions for the officer about my particular infraction (from the web), and the vehicle codes, were the only materials I used.I felt comfortable presenting my case and beating the wrap.It was awesome. The judge said he believed that I was indeed driving safely that day, "case dismissed".And I now *know* that I was truly not guilty.Using what I learned, I also assisted my mother in getting out of a Jaywalking ticket!I definitely recommend it for it's straightforwardness and simplicity and it's thoroughness.

2-0 out of 5 stars A SO-SO Book.
This book is not too bad. It is full of great tips and tactics. But alot of it is common sense. If you really want to beat a speeding ticket and want to learn all about the equipment the police use to nail you, I suggest you buy the book called The Educated Guide to Speeding Tickets by Richard Wallace. He is an ex cop and who knows more about radar, speeding tickets than a cop. He has written a great book. His book helped me beat 2 speeding tickets so far. You can buy it right here at Amazon.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad
The author suggests a lot of common sense ideas on how to deal with police officers and with the court, such as being polite to the police officer no matter how rude or how evil thier tactics were to catch you.It also gives some really good suggestions on what to say and what not to say to the officer or in court.I can't say it works cuz since I bought the book, I've also bought a radar detector and that has saved me more than the book.Simplicity and the ideas written in this book are the basis of my rating. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Your best option is to fight it!
First off, everyone makes at least a couple of traffic mistakes (most of them harmless) every time he/she gets behind the wheel. It is just the unfortunate ones who get caught and receive tickets. This is why I believe no one should ever just pay an expensive ticket without knowing the options available.
5-0 out of 5 stars My case was dismissed!!!
My case was perfect example when this book really shines. I got a ticket for "unsafe turn", didn't violate any posted limits and it was all based on cop's subjective judgement. My first intention was to pay a fine and go to traffic school to clean up the point, but I didn't feel I was guilty and I was looking for some way to prove it. The problem was I didn't know what to do.
5-0 out of 5 stars Realistic and Empowering
This is a very time consuming process. However, I have been burned so many times by overzealous cops, as at the time I was only able to afford older used cars that were cop magnets.I decided enough is enough, and I decided to fight back, and I never regretted the effort. After you go through the process once, you can use similar techniques with ease.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Advice for Newbies and Veteran Freedom Fighters Alike!
Lets face it. Its NOT about safety. Traffic citations - especially seatbelt citations - are about money. And power. And stripping back the constitution. If it were about safety, they wouldn't put so much focus on citations so much, they would straighten dangerous curves, force property owners to cut back brush that causes blind intersections, install traffic control devices where needed and work harder to get the most dangerous class of drivers - those who drive while intoxicated - off the roads and into jails.3-0 out of 5 stars Beat Your Ticket
The information was good for the most part, however, some information is outdated.... for example, the book states that only 3 states consider laser an "unqualified legal seal" for determining speed. This information is outdated according to the Judge in Oregon Court today!!!5-0 out of 5 stars Very Useful for lawyers & nonlawyers
The author's description of defenses to speeding tickets is very clear and detailed. He describes the classes of speeding laws and the procedures for dealing with each class. Both lawyers and nonlawyers will find it veryuseful. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars terrible writing but good advice
This book is excrutiatingly poorly written, with painfully unfunny sarcasm as well as a misplaced or missing comma in every other sentence. While this distracts from the advice the author gives, the usefullness of it outweighs the obnoxious writing. Anyone who speeds, which is basically everyone, would do well to read this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time
Very poorly written book with very poor advice.Things like -- show some clevage, cry a lot, etc.

2-0 out of 5 stars Written in 1990
This book, somewhat wordy, was written in 1990.There have been advances in technology in the past 13 years. There's no mention in his book on LASER devices or Ka band radar.Easy reading, yet not current.Look for another book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Only 1 out of every 50 traffic tickets are disputed
Police officers know this statistic and that's one reason why they write tickets that they know wouldn't hold water! That's one of the points in this book. But more importantly the author explains clearly exactly what vehicle code you've been accused of and how you might benefit from disputing it.For example: the most common vehicle code violation in California is Section 22350.Do you know what that means? The author explains it in an easy to understand way. There are something like 5 conditions that have to be met to prove your guilt (I don't have the book right in front of me at the moment). He also explains that ALL of the conditions of Section 22350 have to be met in order for you to be found guilty. Not one or most of the conditions, but ALL of them.I found it pretty easy to get out of one of the conditions and the judge had no choice but to dismiss the charge.
3-0 out of 5 stars Well organized and written- but you'll probably lose your case
I really liked the way the book was orgnaized and written. There is a lot here yet it is easy to read. On the other hand, parts seem to conflict with what the judge and a lawyer friend told me. In particular, the book implied to me that without intent to break the law or negligence you have a chance to win. But apparently this rule of law does not apply to traffic cases. Whatever, I figured I was going to lose my case (I did, but with a slightly reduced fine) but I enjoyed learning about how the system works.
5-0 out of 5 stars excellent resource in california
this book was very helpful in educating me in how to argue my case, it has little tips on how to throw off the officer's rhythm, and make you come across as knowledgable.Just realize you need to buy the book early, and do your research. If the judge sees an unprepared idiot who is just trying to pull a he said / she said game, you will have to pay. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it
Out of 112 pages, only five deal specifically with what to say in order to talk your way out of a ticket, and the rest of the book deals with general common sense explanations of why officers are people too, all the instances where you CAN'T talk your way out of a ticket, and very brief explanations of some courtroom defenses. While the author has good intentions and provides some basic information, this book will NOT show you how to talk your way out of a traffic ticket unless you just have dumb luck. Check out the Internet for better "scripts" and ideas. ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Eliminating tickets
I don't know how to write a book review, but I do know that this book has been worth every penny to me and my husband. We have each avoided getting a ticket on two separate occasions. It has also really opened our eyes aboutthe sensitive issue of drunk driving and how a policeman feels about it andwhat he will be looking for when he stops a car and smells booze on yourbreath. Whether you are a new driver or have been driving for 30 or moreyears, please read this book!

2-0 out of 5 stars outdated
This book is outdated.there is no more than three paragraphs on laser/lidar and the information is not helpfull. The book does have many good points ,but it is outdated. The author should write a second edition on laser and lidar.I would buy it, but this book is not helpful with todays technology.

2-0 out of 5 stars A Good Introductory Title, But Shouldn't Be Your Only Source
Beat the Cops is a good book to introduce yourself to the art of beating traffic citations, but the publisher gives themselves far too much credit by billing this title as a one-stop information shop. This book doesn't even cover courtroom procedures such as objecting to improper testimony and the information concerning the circumstances under which radar can be inaccurate is wholly incomplete.2-0 out of 5 stars This book is OK but there ARE better out there...
I bought this book along with An Educated Guide to Speeding Tickets by Richard Wallace a former cop and I gotta tell you, this book by Alex Carroll is ok at best. It covers some good points but it still leaves you hanging in some areas. I found the Educated Guide much better and full of helpful information. There was even a chapter on how to speed without getting caught. One tip was speed at shift change, when there are no cops on the road! I loved that one. All of these books help people fight back at the greedy states out there and that is great. I just found the book by Mr. Wallace much better. But glad these books are out here for the novices like me who know nothing about the equipment the police use and how the courts work. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars NOT A BAD BOOK
I have had my fair share of speeding tickets. With the help of this book and my favorite, the Educated Guide To Speeding Tickets by Richard Wallace, I beat almost every ticket in court. Both books help prepare you for court. The Educated Guide even has a chapter on how to avoid getting stopped and ticketed in the first place. Also, the author Mr. Wallace is a former cop and he even returned my phone call to him, imagine that! These insider information books really help people fight back at a greedy system designed JUST to make money for the governments.2-0 out of 5 stars The Educated Guide Is Better...It's Written By A Cop!
I got another speeding ticket in Connecticut, with the help of the Educated Guide to Speeding Tickets, How To Beat & Avoid Them written by an ex cop, Richard Wallace, I beat my case in a court in Connecticut. I loved the book, it really helped. Well, I got another speeding ticket, and was checking around on Amazon.com for other books on speeding tickets, and found the Traffic Ticket Defense, it looked interesting, so I bought it. The book is OK, but not great. It contains alot of info but alot of comes from common sense stuff, but the book is not as good as the Educated Guide, which is down to earth, written by a cop who tells all, it is well written, full of useful information. I just believe an excop over other people. Mr. Wallace has a website, and even returned my phone call. He has a toll free number. Anyway, enough free advertising for Mr. Wallace's book. The Traffic Ticket Defense book should be bought AFTER you buy the Educated Guide To Speeding Tickets. Together, they work well and you will win in court.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for it's intended purpose - winning in court!!
This book is great for it's intended purpose - winning your case in court. In fact, that's what the ENTIRE book is devoted to.Unlike similar books, there's no information about different types of radar/laser devices or getting out of your ticket when you get pulled over, but there is LOTS of info on how to prepare and win your case once your court date rolls around. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Decent Book, Liked it.
This book was not bad. Good stuff inside. Useful stuff. Not the greatest tho if you get a speeding ticket and want to beat it. For that, I would recommend a book by Richard Wallace called An Educated Guide to Speeding Tickets, Beat/Avoid Them. That book is very easy to read. The guy who wrote is was a police officer and knows his stuff. He wrote a very useful and helpful book. I liked his better than this one. I used this book to help a friend here in Rhode Island beat a ticket in court so I know it works. ... Read more
