Great Shop Manuals...
Even if you just do basic repairs or routine service to your car, the Bentley manuals are the only real game in town. They are copied directly from BMW original manuals and are very detailed. When I first got my 528, one of the cup holders failed in the back seat. The manual showed me an easy way to remove them. I also chose to replace the center arm rest and trying to figure that out without the manual would have been impossible. With the manual it was a 10 minutes affair. These two items paid for the cost of the manuals and the manuals add to the value of my car when and if I sell it.
Good, but lacks detail
Needed to replace water pump, thermostat, belts and hoses on E39 530, details are lacking. Good source for general information, but most of that is available on the Net.

BMW 5 Series (E39) Service Manual: 1997-2002 (BMW 5 Series (E39) (2 Volume Set) (BMW 5 Series (E39))
It's a pity that the technical manual doesn't cover the BMW 525TDS or TD (Diesel versions).These Diesel-engine equipped E39-versions differ of course in the engine mechanics (i.e. a M51TU motor engine), but has also differences in the electrical wiring, hence making the details of the Electrical Diagrams almost useless (when it comes to the details of the connections).

heavy duty truck systems
this the 1st time me using this site so i don't have much to say, but i like what i need.i think its nice book for who just start how to work in shop or people who like to work with truck

A great introduction to heavy-duty truck systems
We used this book in our diesel technician class.The book gives you an excellent introduction to every aspect of a heavy-duty truck.I usually shy away from books written by more than one author because of lack of continuity or overcoverage in certain areas.In the case of this book, the authors have done a fantasic job of explaining the topics without any assumptions.The book does a good job in covering cluthes, standard transmission, torque converters, drive shafts, axles, and automatic transmissions.On the subject of brakes, I recommend Delmar's "Today's Technician:Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Brakes."If your thinking of buying a book on this subject matter, you can't go wrong with this selection.Be aware that a third edition has been released.

By far the most thorough resource on the subject
This is an excellent book for both the new guy and the veteran. At almost 500 pages, this is a very practical book that covers every aspect of truck driving and life on the road. In addition to basic operations, there is also plenty of detailed mechanical info on the inner workings of a truck. That will probably be of more interest to owner-operators than company drivers but it's good to know it's there in case you ever need it.My only complaint is that this book wasn't around when I started out. It definitely would've made for a much smoother transition into the 'industry'. Highly reccomended.

Great book for future Driver
If you have never driven a tractor trailer this is a great book. It covers everything from a drivers perspective. The truck itself including: Engines, Transmissions, Parts, Driving techniques, Hazmat, Airbrakes, Life on the road etc. What it does not cover in great detail is if you want to start your own trucking company, or authority. It touches on parts and mentions the D.O.T and FMCSR but mostly from the drivers interaction with those agencies, not as a trucking company. This book is for drivers behind the wheel on a day to day basis. Non-drivers will find it useful and insightful but if you are wishing to start your own company, It does not cover in detail the authorities you will need and actual details involved in doing so. The book never claims it does cover that information... this review is to let you know what is not in there in that regard. As a future driver, or someone interested in the actual day to day operations or the skills needed to operate a tractor trailer, this book is great and worthy of 5 stars.

Useless
Do not buy this book.It has absolutely no detail and states only what you can already figure out using common sense.I wanted help replacing the carburetor on my 1989 Honda Accord.The book says to remove hoses, connections and loosen the mounting nuts and lift out the carburetor and then install the new carburetor the same way the old one was installed---that's it.No help with hose diagrams or information about how to disconnect or reconnect anything.Also, the carburetor won't just lift out---it is necessary to loosen the manifold to get the thing out.The book doesn't even mention that.As I said, the book is useless.I wouldn't have given it even one star, but I had no choice.

confusing, no detail.... You cannot wirte a 276 pg book for 10 years worth of 2 different cars...There are no pictures and often little detail on what you are supposed to be looking at...Maybe a good, i mena good mechanic could use this book, but no one else...

Has its moments and applications
I own both the Chilton's manual and the service manual and I use them almost an equal amount when working on my '92 Accord.Yes, the Chilton's doesn't contain as much model-specific information as the service manual, but at times the service manual is too technical and difficult to follow.That's when I turn to the Chilton's manual.IMHO it's well worth the price. ... Worked for me - barely
Bought this manual so that I could do an engine swap in my 97 318ti.Nothing fancy, old engine failed at 192K and I had a salvage one to take it's place, no upgrade here.These cars can be somewhat complicated with a wiring harness that's a complete maze plus a lot of mechanicals shoved in a small area - there is definitely a specific sequence for assembly.The manual was very helpful for some disassembly and reassembly but was very vague in other areas and for specifics to my exact model.Could I have done my work without this manual?Probably, but it would have been more difficult.On the other hand, if I had to rely solely on this manual and not taken lots of pictures and had online assistance from a 318ti group I probably would have been in trouble.I'd probably buy again, but plan on a second or third source for help in any major work.Worth noting that manual does have a lot of info for areas such as sunroof or ragtop, plus many other areas that might present common problems to an owner.Also worth noting that the manual covers nothing on the lower end of any model - if you need to work on pistons or the crank, don't purchase this manual.

Bently's service manuals are one of the best sources of information you can get for your BMW or Porsche. Highly recommend any of their books.

Absolutely HORRIBLE manual
******One-star is NOT LOW ENOUGH******* 1991-99 Ford Explorer Repair Manual
In section 6 the information for the windshield wiper motor is not applicable to my 1996 explorer.Also, there is no information about how to remove / replace the windshield washer spray nozzles.Or how to remove the cowling along the base of the windshield.

Chilton's has lost touch with reality.
I purchased this book for needed factual, accurate information of which I got neither. I wanted to replace the lower ball joints on my '99 Ranger, so I bought this book. Take note: on page 8-4 it states specifically that the 1998-99 Ranger does NOT have coil springs. This of course is hogwash as my '99 most definitely has coil springs. In addition, it states on page 8-8 that the ball joint is an integral part of the lower control arm. This, too, is complete hogwash. Please be advised that this book is RIFE with erroneous information - including any pictures contained therein. buy a factory service manual
A serious do-it-yourselfer better buy a factory service manual for his/her specific vehicle from Chrysler.It costs $90, however, non-factory service manual is a waste of money for most of buyers.You just don't find information that you need to repair your vehicle.

Garbage, inaccurate, incomplete, misleading
This book is garbage, innacurate and misleading.Like frustration-then buy it.A jeep mechanic told me this book was a great source of customers for him. The Haynes book is no better. These companies just copy errors and inaccuracies from each other. RE-build it yourself!
Typical Chilton book, tells you everything about the car you could possibly want to know except the thing you're looking for.I recently bought an old (1988) Jeep Comanche; wanted to replace the speedometer cable...using this book I could replace the transmission, overhaul the engine, re-build the differential,but no where could I find any info on the speedometer.Line drawings are crude and difficult to interpret, photos are worse.The text is good and gives adequate instructions.When I go to grind the valves, I'll know how! ... Muy buen libro, simple, bién explicado, con buenas fotografías
Muy buen libro, refleja claridad de ideas y sus recomendaciones son de gran utilidad. A pesar de estar en idioma inglès, se entiende perfectamente. Las fotografías son las adecuadas para este tipo de libro y ayudan mucho. El autor hace recomendaciones de productos y herramientas necesarias para llevar a cabo los procedimientos descriptos. Me parece de lo mejor para llegar a reconstruir el motor del escarabajo. Bien redactado, aborda el tema sin caer en detalles superfluos. Lo recomiendo.

From a Porsche 914 Point Of View
My opinion of this very useful book is from a Porsche 914 perspective. This book is going to really cover the basics and give a good overview of what you're getting into. I really like the breakdown of the book and the photos. Yet, if the photos could be color it would be better - but the detail of the B&W give a fine detail of each step.Of course most 914 nuts are going to buy anything that will help them with any aspect of the 914. For a general book, I think it takes a good "how to" stand on each section of the engine rebuild.

This is a great one
Of all the vw books I own (a lot) this has been the most useful so far. I cant find the info for rebuilding an engine to stock condition anywhere else not even in the rightly fabled Bentley manuals. pitiful.this is a short intro to primitive psyc behavior on personal awareness for the road.if it has anything to do with trucking, i missed it.

More BS from a "wanna be"....(who could'nt take it...)
After reading this book (and surviving 29 years in the trucking industry) I am greatly inclined to agree with Mr. Pendergast's points of view. Too much is wasted on trying to fit in with a lifestyle that needs to change, not "be adjusted" to. Sweatshops on Wheels was the definitive book on the current "race to the bottom" of the trucking industry. Want poor wages (when you add up your TOTAL time put in) and NO life ? No real health benefeits or pension (if your non-union) ? Then by all means come join us in the trucking industry and completely throw your life away. Everyone TALKS about doing something to help the driver, but as usual nothing is ever done. Truck drivers are STILL the ONLY labor group in the United States NOT covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act. And this book still does'nt address that..

Think Twice Before Becoming a Trucker, Sonny
The author expresses genuine concern for the welfare of those who may be considering a career in what is the modern-day equivalent of indentured servitude. However, after surviving for many years in the trucking biz, I'd advise all but the most desperate job-seekers to steer clear of the cesspool known as over-the-road trucking. Now, if you enjoy being treated like an animal, enjoy being treated like a common criminal, enjoy surviving on a fat-laden junk food diet and enjoy living on 4-5 hours of sleep every day, then by all means, join up.

very little info for 65
if you have a older ford truck pass this book up.no info worth Gearheads, grease-monkeys and grannies unite!
So I'm covered in mud and (ouch) gravel--funny how those sharp stones can really stick to your skin. Anyway, I'm trying to resurect a half-dead 1965 Ford Pick up by myself, with very few tools. I'm what I'd consider mildlymechanically competent, but with the time honored tradition of ChiltonManuals I've managed to work on my own cars with very good results. Forolder vehicles you'll also want to get the original manual (usually not toohard to find.)Chances are if you're looking at this book you're alreadycomfortable working on your own vehicle, but on the off chance that you'rea novice, consider this. Getting comfortable with working on your ownvehicle and getting to know your vehicle is the best thing you can do. Itsaves you money in the long run and you'll feel empowered when you gap yourown spark plugs for the first time. i think the book is great and informative
i want to see where the starter is located on the 1989 toyota camr

Terrible choice!!!!!! I'll try to return it!!!!
One star is way too much for this book. I got the newest version three days ago and it was like getting a repair manual for a toy. I've got a Camry 91 with a v6 engine and this book had virtually nothing I could use.Not even a decent set of diagrams and instructions to replace the sparkplugs...!!!! Forget about anything else like a CV boot replacement or atiming belt replacement. I hope the publisher sees my review.

AWFUL! Do not buy this book!!!!!!
This must be the most useless book I have every seen on auto maintenance and repair. If you're looking for any info on your Camry, look elsewhere. Due to the nature of the book (13 years of camry), you will not find *ANY*specifics on your particular model. No part numbers listed anywhere in themanual. Diagrams are ambiguous at best. Bad Reference!!
This book is chock full of errors. I don't have any faith in the contents of this book. Color codes of wires are incorrect in troubleshooting areas, and there is poor coverage of all model years, especially newer ones. The book tells you what fault codes are but it does not tell you how to access them. I own two Hondas and I end up using the internet to get the information this book, more often than not, neglects to include. Purchase at your own risk -- it's too bad that it is the only book on the market for many Honda models.

Better than Hays
This is a fair book. Deffinatly better than Hays. Where hays explanes things in one sentence Chilton uses an entire paragraph. However it does not contain all the diagnosis I wanted and it is plagued with misprints andoccasionaly contridicts itself.

Poor graphics, lack of detail, poor coverage of all models.
This was disappointing.The "Total Car Care" repair manual had non-detailed drawings instead of photos leaving you with only a vague idea of where the part that you are looking for is in relation to the rest ofyour car.The text was about as good as the graphics... it could have beenmore detailed and/or descriptive.Another probelm was that the graphicsgave only a single example of the procedure being described (as shown forthe '84-'87 CRX... not very helpful to orient you to a 95 Civic).Comparedto the other manuals that I have seen (Haynes and Clymer mostly) this oneleft alot to be desired at about twice the price.This one will give you aballpark idea of what you will need to do to fix your Honda, but I wouldconsider purchasing a single-model specific repair manual at a cheaperprice. ... Incomplete
I am a professional mechanic so I work on my own vehicles, to save some money over buying the repair manuals offered by Dodge I decided to purchase this manual for a rear anti-lock brake problem I'm having. When I found the correct section of the book,I thought that I had it made, the codes were there, pictures of the componets were there, great, I thought. So I began reading the text on obtaining trouble codes to isolate my vehicles problem. It tells you how to get the codes by shorting the diagnostic terminal to ground then read the codes on the ABS light on the dash, cool! Where's the connector? And which terminals at the connector once you find it!!! No pictures or descriptions of where this connector is located what it looks like or how many wires it contains. So thought I'd go to the wiring diagrams and at least find the terminal numbers or wire color codes to the ABS computer maybe that will help, NOT! All the wiring diagram shows is the feed wire from the engine computer to the ABS computer with a block that says "to ABS computer"! Not even a diagram of the ABS system! Not much help!!! And very frustrating!! BUY THE MOPAR BOOK FOR 129.00!! Thats if your going to do anything past oil changes and spark plugs!! ... Read more

Chilton's Jeep CJ/Scrambler 1971-86 Repair Manual
As always, Chiltons manuals are one of the best for reference to a vehicle. They are usually on the mark for information and "how to" things. This particular manual is a little weak on the V-8 304 CID engine and I believe that there are mis-prints throughout on the numbering and figures that are drawn out. The electrical diagrams are the best there are but I think that the identifying the part that you are looking at could use a little more detail. All in all, the Chiltons repair manuals remain the best.

Get a Helms Manual
Get a Helms Manual....they're much more detailed!

Lacking
I purchased this book with the intention of having a thorough reference guide for my 2000 TL. I was quicklly disappointed and surprised when 95% of what I referenced was not available, or lacked so much detail that it offered no assistance at all. This book may be a gem for integra owners (most of the examples and instructions are integra focused) but TL and RL owners beware, and take a peek at it in the stores before you commit. You could be highly disappointed.
