5-0 out of 5 stars Insightful and educational
This book was excellent, despite it's slightly cheesy title.Winner is smart, witty, and incredibly honest about her spiritual journey.I learned so much about Judaism, and definitely thought about my own Christian faith. This book is refreshing and thought-provoking in its honesty and intellectualism.

2-0 out of 5 stars The Self-Absorbed Christian
This book has gotten a great deal of good press, and to be sure, Winner is a talented prose writer. But her journey to Orthodox Judaism and from there to Christianity simply isn't enlightening -- her faith journey seems all about what makes her feel special. It's ego-driven. She does not mention the ethics of either religion, and for such an educated woman, the intellectual content of the book isminimal. It all seems to be about her comfort. She treats sincere Orthodox Jewish friends, people who literally treat her like family, as if they are disposable. Her reasons for leaving Orthodox Judaism are flimsy (a few people didn't like her as much as she wanted) and her attachment to Christianity comes off as capricious and even silly. Christ is like a giant Candyman in the sky. After the first third or so of the book, I wanted to say: please, grow up. There's a whole world of people out there. And I speak as a liberal Christian.
4-0 out of 5 stars Spoke to me
This book was a Christmas gift from my boyfriend, who grew up Jewish, to me (from a Christian background). Since we have recently joined a congregation where we both can worship, this book really struck a chord with me.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is NOT a Jewish book! Do not be fooled!
This is the clever work of a "messianic jew" (ie: an evangelical christian) to attempt to confuse young and/or new Jews. This is not new. It has been produced in a thousand different ways over the years. If you are a christian, go ahead and buy this book and pretend you are learning something about Jews and the Torah. You certainly won't learn anything like that. If you are Jewish, or genuinely interested in learning about Judaism, please pass this by. It is not Jewish in any way. There are hundreds of Torahs and books about Judaism on respectable websites such as those of the Union for Reform Judaism, the national Jewish websites, etc. It's a shame that evangelical christians feel compelled to try to convert Jews. What harm do we cause them? None at all. If you see something called a "Jewish Bible" and it speaks of jesus, then you are reading an evangelical christian book. Plain and simple. "Messianic jews" are NOT Jews at all. Please don't be confused about this.

4-0 out of 5 stars My Humble Opinon
I'm a baby Christian, beginning to understand my grafting to the Jewish roots. Well, I own a KJV, an ASV, plus this Bible. When I couldn't grasp the message in the KJV (old english can be hard to read), I'd go to the ASV, but sometimes that didn't help either. I have read thru a few other versions, like the NIV and such, but they were so choppy to read, God's Word was being butchered.I've probably had this Complete Jewish Bible for a month or so before I cracked it open.Wow, I love it.In the beginning, I'd bounce back and forth between it and the KJV or the ASV to see how close the message stayed intact.I find it faithful. It is so readable and understandable that I will perhaps make it my "main" Bible.I have the hard back edition, because they hadn't come out with the leather bound edition at the time. But what I wish they'd do is make a leather bound in large print soon!

4-0 out of 5 stars Best in its class!
I have been a practicing Messianic Jew for many years and can say this Bible is an invaluable resource.I'll agree with others that it is not word-for-word, but that is not always the best way to most accurately convey the meaning of a foreign language anyway.

3-0 out of 5 stars And Next.. A Girl talks to Bhudda
Girl Meets God is a bodice-ripping tome on religion, or rather, religion-lite.It titilates, confesses, talks of food, sex, drink and,top it off, a little "Electra" thing going on with Daddy- Ms Winer wrote a little fairy tale for spiritual seekers- Jew or Christian- lost in the big woods, etc., etc. all egos are attended to.
4-0 out of 5 stars A very easy book to relate to.
This book is a quick read and well as an interesting read.I read this book for a church book discussion group and was very glad we chose it.I felt that even though it's about her struggle with Judaism and converting to Christianity, it is so very applicable to me as a Christian who did not convert from anything. It reminds me of the basics of being a Christian and the struggles that we all face. The reason not for 5 stars is that even though there is a great deal of information from the author about the 2 religions, it was not a challenging book to read - but that's just my preference.

5-0 out of 5 stars Page Turner
It is not often a person can say a religious book is a edge of chair page turner; BUT, Lauren's book was just that. I read it in three evenings, and quickley ordered her book Mudhouse Sabbath, and can't wait to read it. Lauren's religious "travel" from reformed Judaism to orthodox Judaism to Episcopalism was both insightful and thought provoking. I highly recommend this book if you are searching spiritally, or want to learn basic tenants of Judaism and christianity from a person who lived both. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book despite current family/business problems

1-0 out of 5 stars The Author's Daughter Responds
My name is Ann Telchin and I am the daughter of Stan Telchin who authored the book 'Betrayed!'I am mentioned in the book by name and I have serious reservations concerning the substance of the book.Any reader upon completing the book would assume that we are a Jewish family who converted to Christianity and lived happily ever after - after all, that is the distinct impression my father leaves the reader with.Unfortunately, this could not be further from the truth as the Telchin family is and has remained for many years divided over the story my father has told in 'Betrayed!'While certainly the book serves for a good and inspiring read, I simply cannot affirm the substance of the book and the general over all depiction of our family as being accurate today. It is not an accurate description of our family today and while I and others have raised our concerns to my father many times over the years, he has chosen not to make any response.I would urge any reader or prospective reader of 'Betrayed!' to approach the book as simply a good story but remain cognizant of the fact that I cannot affirm the book as being entirely accurate.

1-0 out of 5 stars Questionable Veracity - Is It Really A Truthful Story?
Our Sunday school class was given Betrayed! as an assignment to read only two weeks later did our pastor tell us to throw the book out.It turns out that Mr. Telchin's description of his family in the book is questionable and not entirely accurate. One of the family members mentioned in the book has stated in public that the book does not accurately reflect the family. Also, Telchin apparently has been exposed speaking in public many times making statements that have later showed not to be exactly accurate.Last year, The Messianic Times Newspaper in the U.S. ran a lengthy article about Telchin and his position regarding Messianic Judaism. The daughter of Telchin wrote an interesting letter to the editor of that newspaper which was published in which she came out and seriously questioned Telchin's veracity. There are many good books to read and while Betrayed! is certainly a good read, well, so is Alice In Wonderland. But a book being a good read does not make it truthful. Our pastor directed our attentions to a website that Telchin's daughter has put up explaining her positions regarding Betrayed! and other matters.I would encourage any reader of Betrayed! to just be careful and not to necessarily accept it as fact and I would also hope that nobody ever passes the book to a Jewish person in hopes that that Jewsih person would read it and convert to Christianity and then later find out that the book has been called publicly into question. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Post-Missionary Messianic Judaism a Challenge for Jews and Christians alike
Dr. Mark Kinzer has written a groundbreaking book that cannot be simply overlooked. His conclusions of Messianic Judaism, and its reprocussions on Christianity and Judaism are innovative and based on solid schoarship. Many well known scholars have already begun to take notice.

5-0 out of 5 stars A maturing Messianic Judaism
Dr. Mark Kinzer's well-thought, carefully argued presentation of what he has coined "Postmissionary Messianic Judaism,"is a must read for all theologians and pastors.Relying not only on his own biblical scholarship and exegesis, but on that of many other scholars as well, Dr. Kinzer presents the reader with a form of Messianic Judaism that retains faithfulness both to the traditions and teachings of Judaism, and to New Testament theology.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful & joyful introduction to messianic dance worship
If you have ever been curious about the use of dance in Biblical worship, then this is the book for you."Dancing for Joy" is a delightful survey of Biblical and historical examples of dance worship. This is not an exhaustive treatment, but enough to demonstrate the principles. The author also includes a number of helpful tools, such as a dance step glossary, and few examples of dances.

5-0 out of 5 stars ~Edifying and Insightful~
This is a must for anyone who wishes to add to thier collection of devotionals and commentaries. I own and read several devotionals including Spurgeons Morning/Evening,My Utmost for His Highest and a Calvary Chapel Pastors Devotional, this Messianic perspective on the Scriptures add some salt to my collection. The Messianic perspective has much to add and is a blessing to the reader in building him up in his faith through edification, conviction, humor and praise of our King Yeshua. Don't miss this one !

5-0 out of 5 stars The Voice of the Lord Messianic Jewish Daily Devotional
This is a must for those seeking understanding for their daily walk with Yeshua. It is a refreshing light with great insight and a good way to share the Word and the Good News. It is the way that our day starts and the words carry us through with a longing for what is to come the next day. It is a must for the Messianic believer.

5-0 out of 5 stars A little gem of a devotional!
This is a little gem of a devotional!Twenty-two contributors (equivalent to the number of letters in the Hebrew alphabet), representing a "broad spectrum of the Messianic Jewish community," have shared their insight into various Scripture passages, giving the book a decidedly unique perspective compared to other devotionals I have looked it.Although each day's commentary is only a page long, each devotion is packed with punch, often giving Jewish background or customs to each reading.Key Hebrew words are sprinkled throughout with the English translation included in parentheses. The Jewish calendar is followed, however Western dates, six years worth (beginning in 1998), are included so the reader can easily follow throughout the year. Each page has a side-column that shows the stage of the moon on that particular date. Also listed are any important biblical events that have occurred, as well as the traditional Jewish holy days and observances that are celebrated. A small section in the column is left for personal writing or a "prayer focus."There are three appendices that cover the biblical festivals, the traditional Jewish observances, and a synagogue reading cycle.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Thesis on Stan Telchin" Book
Peace be to all. I finished reading Stan's book about a month ago. I have to say it was quite insightful. I've been studying the Jewish/Messianic Roots of the Christian Faith for almost 6 years now. I used to go to a Messianic Congregation, and the emphassis seems to be is trying to fit into the Jewish community, and not at times trying to follow the Messiah (Jesus). I think the leaders of the Messianic Movement need to read what Mr Telchin says. He has some words of wisdom from a man who knows alittle about Jewish evangelism. Only By lifting up Christ, and Him alone, can draw people to him. Whether it be Jew or Gentile. Its a good book, and I recommend everyone who is in the Messianic Movement to read and take some of Stan's words to heart. Shalom(Peace) be to all.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dangerous and Unbiblical Book
This book has to be one of the stupidest books I have read in years.I could not believe how poorly researched it was and how poorly argued it is.Telchin is by no means a theologian of any sort.He is not even ordained and holds no leadership position in the Messianic Community. He seems to have written a book to take the opportunity to rant and rage against all things Christian and Messianic. His positions are so remarkably poorly argued that this reader could only conclude that Telchin took on subject matter way above his head. While Telchin writes under the cloak of "calling for unity", this book actually serves to divide one Christian from the other and does so contrary to the fundamentals of sound biblical doctrine. The book is so confusing and anti- Jewish and anti-biblical, that I wonder if Telchin had a more deeper and sinister reason for writing the book. The book leaves Telchin looking like he is anti-Semitic.
3-0 out of 5 stars A More Thorough Theological Critique Required
Having read Messianic Judaism by Dan Cohen-Sherbok and absorbed his evaluation of the place of the Messianic movement within Judaism, I eagerly awaited Mr. Telchin's work on the same subject from a Christian perspective. While I expected a thorough argument against Messianic Judaism's inclusion in the broader Christian tradition (based on the title), instead what was proposed was something theology of why Messianic Jews should not establish independent congregations.Though thorough in scope and interesting in logic, I will admit that I was disappointed by what seemed to be Telchin's need to trash Christianity. While it's important not to deny Christianity's anti-Judaic past, its also important to understand that past in the process of not denying it.He blatantly paints all the Church Fathers as anti-Semitic (which they were not) and the majority of Christian theology as being based on a need to "put down" the Jews (it was not).Still, Telchin is to be praised for his thorough elucidation of the problems endemic to the Messianic congregational movement, particularly as they relate to Messianic relations (or lack thereof) with other Christian communities. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not What I'd Hoped For
When I picked up this book, I expected that it would be a thorough theological elucidation of the merits and dismerits of Messianic Judaism from the perspective of Christian theology and that it would present and even-handed evaluation of that movement.Sadly, that was not what I found.

4-0 out of 5 stars Focused on Jesus Christ:The Theme of the Bible
Jesus Christ is the only Redeemer of sinful man.Jesus Christ is the only full revelation of God, as revealed in the Bible.History is utterly dependent on Jesus Christ, who He is and what He is doing. So this book will take you a long way in focusing your interpretation of scripture on what, or Who, scripture is about. Here is a book that is excellent for one wanting to start studying more in depth the MANY attributes and works of Jesus Christ and how all of history revolves around His sovereignty.Mr. Lockyer does a great job and will get you started, expanding your mind beyond the "milk" theology in which so many Christians remain. But be careful. He bought into the very young doctrines of premillennialism and dispensationalism, so you will find his doctrinal explanations as related to the return of Jesus Christ to be "newspaper" theology rather than biblical theology.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great critique of all the specific and symbolic prophecies
This the best book on the Messianic prophecies that were attributed to Christ! It goes into unprecedented depth in the symbolic messianic prophecies which not too many authors chose to go into. This is anexcellent book from an acclaimed author who was beyond 80 years of age whenhe wrote the book. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars There is no "Bible code"
One of the foundational qualities of the Bible is its clarity (sometimes called perspicuity). That means Scripture's main teachings are plain enough to be understood without the need of special expertise or church-sanctioned interpretations. 3-0 out of 5 stars A Bit Dissapointed
I have read several books on the Bible Code recently, and this is my least favorite to date.
