Simply Stunning
Sandman is such an obvious choice for reprinting in the Absolute format, I'm surprised DC took this long to think of it. Previous reviewers have hit all the right points: the full leather binding, the extra heftiness of the volume, the glorious new look to the color. Nothing seems held back. I'm already salivating over the future volumes. Here are some questions DC should consider answering: Will the final volume include the two Death series? Will any volume include the 7-page story that appeared in a DC Sampler, and was later reprinted in the Fables and Reflections HC?
Well worth your hard-earned cash!
Frankly, I've thought that most of the "Absolute" editions were overpriced and a little too self-aggrandizing. Sometimes a good comic book is just a good comic book. I think that's enough. It doesn't have to be a seminal moment in the history of Western literature.

Worth every penny!
This is a georgeous folio book.Frank Miller at his best.Dark and vivid.This book was out of print for a while, and it is an absolute treasure to own.

Herodotus meets Sin Cityand gets whacked.
I was hoping that Miller would turn his talents from the dark side and we would see how well he could reproduce a Classical Epic.What we get is a blood splattered "300 Lacedaimons in the Hood".The Spartans are presented to be a buch of Homo erotic Rastafarians.The Persians rather than the Noble Middle Eastern Autocrats presented in their Art are drawn by Miller to resemble African American Gangstas with piercings and Skin art everywhere.I was looking for Xerxes to have a grill and whitewalls on his chariot.
I will always think of this as 'Zoo.'What can I say?I'm special.
But do not miss this trade paperback.The story is as fine as you'll ever read, a tale as old as time.And the artwork is fantastic.

Excellent value, significant improvements
I have not gamed in years. Actually since shortly after the 2nd edition rules came out. The 3.5 edition greatly simplifys the game and improves the balance. This 3 in 1 collection is a great value and provides all the basics you need to start playing or running a game.

Fantastic Deal
This is great, you get three books for the price of two.All three of the first 3.5 Edition Core Books.Seeing how the Player's Handbook is necessary to play, and the Monster Manual is almost mandatory, you might as well get the DM Guide for free.

Good stuff, except....
I've been playing D&D for about 20 years now.I stopped playing in 1996, then a couple of years ago I reunited with a few of my old gaming buddies, who introduced me to version 3.5.

A refreshing change
I have all but given up on the so called "Vampire Hunter" books (there is no hunting only sex), but this book was why I first started reading her work in the first place.She can weave a great story, and leave the reader on the edge of their seat waiting for more.Everyone changes as time goes on, and I can appreciate that but they say when you are lost look to your roots.Maybe there is hope for Anita yet.No sex, just wonderful short stories that prove Hamilton can do it.

Ouch.This was pretty painful.Oh, Goddess; where to start?Okay, first:If you are totally stoked about the December release of Mistral's Kiss, DO NOT read this book.Most especially, do not read the introductions - at least not if you'd like to continue to think of Laurell Hamilton as a nice person.I was totally stoked about the December release of Mistral's Kiss, and now I'm wondering if I will read any more Hamilton ever.

She can write and excellent story (stories) without burying it in endless creative sex. These stories are a collection of various places in her very creative worlds. No Merry Gentry story but two Anita stories an early one and a more evolved later one. And some stories from the world of Nightseer. Ms Hamilton has a very good grasp of how short stories work and an excellent ability to make them pop. The pacing is totally different. The difference between a sketch and a painting. She does it well. Now if we could just get her to do this with the Anita novels: more story, less paint. ... Read more

Other than Kenyon, awful compilation
I didn't like one story in this book other than Kenyon's, and even that wasn't her best.The book was actually so bad that I resent the money I paid for it.And to add insult to injury, the other book I bought that was a compilation including Kenyon was even WORSE.Just a total waste of money.Two of the stories are written in the first person -- and come on, are you a 12 year old writing a story for composition class? -- and all of them are hokey and, to be blunt, lame.

severely disappointed
Severely disappointed is the only way to describe my reaction to this anthology.I ran right out to buy this book because of all the positive reviews.Save your money and buy it used.

Some are silver and the others gold, but all GREAT!
To say that I was looking forward to this book for the authors that I already know and love is an understatement.I couldn't wait to read L.A. Banks' story and Sherilyn Kenyon's.However, I have to say that I not only enjoyed the stories from the authors that I am already familiar with and love, but I enjoyed the stories from the authors who were previously unknown to me as well.What a great introduction to something new!I am definitely going to be broadening my book collection with some new authors and of course will continue on with the ones I love and know already.This was a book filled with interesting, romantic and exciting tales and I would recommend it to anyone.KUDOS to these writers for a capital accomplishment.

The politically correct shall inherit the earth
Mr. Bradbury's prophetic work has come to pass in the politically correct world of thought controlled by political expediency and special interests.
Thought provoking, but not amazing
What made me pick up this book in the first place was everyone's fixation on how "thought-provoking" and "different" it was. I read it, and found myself agreeing with some aspects, confused by others, and downright bored by some.

Avid Reader
I usually read one book and then open the next one without a thought. I finished this, sat down and had a good cry (which i never do) and spent some time leafing back through the pages to find out what touched me so much. Turns out it was the whole book and the intricate way the author painted a love story.

I'm not very fond of fiction but after a recommendation from a bookstore employee, I decided to give it a chance and I am just GLAD I did. I totally loved this story. It's so unusual yet touching that you will not want to put it down.
Worthy of Re-Reading Every Now and Then
I've a copy of this one in my bedside table because every now and then I like to get it out and read a few pages, because it makes me feel good.

A prett decent Pratchett effort
Terry Pratchett has been a bit hit amd miss for me of late, but I do always enjoy the Tiffany adventures. This is definitely one of his best efforts of recent times. It's better than A Hat Full Of Sky (which I did like) but not as enjoyable as some of his darker efforts. This is an easy read full of Pratchett's trademark wit. I preferred Thud in terms of story and tone, but for an easy read Wintersmith can't be faulted. It's not too heavy going and will probably go down as the wittiest fantasy read of 2006 along with The Book With No Name. There's nothing particularly straying away from the tried and tested formula, but if you know what you like about Pratchett, then you should already know if you're gonna like this.
Crivens! Another one!
I love the Tiffanny Aching Adventures, so I was really glad when my brother gave me Wintersmith for my birthday. Now would probably be a good time to tell you that I am writing this on my father's account. My name is Charlotte Moore and I think that Terry Pratchett is a genius. I have read his equally good books A Hat Full of Sky, The Wee Free Men, and The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents.
More Than a Boffo Book
It's hard to understand how he does it, but with each book he writes Terry Pratchett out does himself. Each book is even better than the last. And this is certainly the best book of the Tiffany Aching series.

This is no Little Prince
I feel like I am pushing against the tide, but perhaps I can warn others, like me, who agreed to read this book because of comparisons to St. Exupery's classic, The Little Prince.It is too late to warn off my book club.Others expecting anything remotely as charming, disarming, witty, and downright delightful as Le Petit Prince should look elsewhere.I have read St. Exupery, Mr. Coelho, and you are no St. Exupery.
Very Confusing Text!!!
I'm in an eighth grade honors class, and had to read this book for an assignment.Unfortunately, I found the book vey boring and extremely hard to understand.The text was very confusing, with all the different lessons, all being learned at the same time.I do not recommend this book to anyone under 16.

Outstanding paranormal mystery
Harper Connelly and her step brother Tolliver have been invited by Dr. Clyde Nunley to demonstrate her power for his anthropology class.She can find the dead and determine how they died and their names.He has an old graveyard at Bingham College which hasn't been used for 50 years and recently the records of the old church have been found giving the cause of death for those buried there. The records have been sealed so he is sure that like others he has invited for demonstrations he can show that she is a fake or at least not reliable.Good characters, good plot nicely done and some humor as she spooks the class and Dr. Nunley by being right all the time and by finding Tabahia's body double parked in a grave. (She had been hired to try to find her when she disappeared a year ago from her home in Nashville, Bingham is in Memphis.) And more humor when she weirds out the corner. I still like her southern vampire series better but this is very good and a little better than her first book in the series.

Harris never disappoints!
Harris never disappoints and Grave Surprise is no exception. Harris's prose is both quirky and smooth as butter, and these characters really grabbed hold of me. Made me laugh, made me tear up, made me turn the pages faster and faster, and sigh when I reached the last. It's wonderful to read a writer who knows her craft as well as this. I can hardly wait for her next!

Lightening Can Strike Twice
In this, the second in Charlaine Harris' Harper Connelly series, we learn oh so much more about Harper, her paranormal ability to sense the dead and how they passed, Harper's childhood, and most tantalizingly, her relationship with her stepbrother Tolliver. Solid SW Book
First off, if I could, I would rate this a 4.5.
Absolutelly oustanding!
I finished it last night, and I'm fascinated with it. The story of Darth Bane and the dogma of 2 sith "one to embody the power, and another to crave it" is amazingly explained. You can also see that the Jedi Order was much different (arrogant) from the one we know (Yoda's Order).
Sweet Dark Side Read
Awesome.Des' trip from abused miner to one of the most powerful Sith Lords ever is full of betrayal, intrigue, and good-old-fashioned lightsaber fights.Bane truely lives up to that name.He rejects the watered down Sith teachings at Korriban's academy and learns from only the best: Darth Revan.

Infinite Crisis is here....
I hated the original Crisis on Infinite Earths. It was too long, too convulated, the conversations bordered on cheesiness etc...the only redeeming factor in my opinion was that it cleaned out the multivese and set foundations for a more coherent continuity. Fast forward 20+ years and the Crisis has returned. This book has a lot going for it and has foundations based on many previous events. The plot is not simple but I will try my best to provide a synopsis.
Awful
I gave this two stars only because I got to see some characters I haven't in a long time. The writing is disjointed, poorly characterized and the art was so bad in the original that they had to fix or finish it here.
Felt like a Marvel story, but then again...
There is no perfect Earth.

A very good read - the series continues
If you are a Terry Goodkind fan, you will have little trouble liking this book. Sure, the story line is somewhat played out, and many fans just want the final confrontation to resolve itself. But Goodkind has committed to taking us on a trilogy ride in the battle between the Richard Rahl side vs. the Jagang side. And guess what? Kahlen is in the middle of it. Again.

if you're like me, you're reading this book because it's the second to last and you just want to finish the series.because the series started out as amazing books that had non-stop action without all the nonsense and unrealism and lecturing that we get to deal with now...one more to go and then richard and kahlan can live happily ever after.yay!

Loved it
Ok I have to admit I wasnt expecting the "old" Terry to show up in this book but he did. It was interesting and exciting and enjoyable -It left me really looking forward to the next book and wishing it wasnt going to be the last.It is true that the word "phantom" is mentioned too often - and there is some of the usual lecturing that comes in all of Mr. Goodkind's books but it is no where near the last one or two.In short I enjoyed it from cover to cover .... now when is the next one being releasted? ... Great addition to the series
But what is wrong with this guy?Why is he taking so long between books?Another 3 or 4 year wait is NOT worth it.He will lose the fans he's got for no reason other than his procrastination.5 star book, but 2 points off for the delay. And yes, I bought it the first week it came out along with everyone else, that's the only reason he was on the best-seller list, not because of any 'staying power' in that list.
What a loss...
Other reviewers here are worrying that Martin has entered Robert Jordan territory with this volume, but you have only to visit Martin's web page to guess what has really happened: he's badly distracted.Maybe that's why this book reads like unedited backgrounder draft.No editor worthy of the name should have let this go to print, but I'm sure the publisher finally gave up on the wait and insisted on something, anything...and what we get is this...mess. Honestly, it is WORK to read this book and, after the pure pleasure of reading its predecessors, a bitter disappointment.

A Passing Wind
A lot of build up and fluff. You can speak that this is only 1/2 the book that Martin wanted to publish but with such a time gap between books and no substantial story line, all the characters and individual story lines are vanishing from my memory.To me, this book was a waste of both my money and time.I wish I could have skipped this book and since I probably will not lose any important story line information since I am starting to forget it anyway.I will state that the first three books were amazing and I am hoping the next book redeems my faith for what Martin has done in his first three books.My recommendation, skip this book ...
