5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent value, significant improvements
I have not gamed in years. Actually since shortly after the 2nd edition rules came out. The 3.5 edition greatly simplifys the game and improves the balance. This 3 in 1 collection is a great value and provides all the basics you need to start playing or running a game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Deal
This is great, you get three books for the price of two.All three of the first 3.5 Edition Core Books.Seeing how the Player's Handbook is necessary to play, and the Monster Manual is almost mandatory, you might as well get the DM Guide for free.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good stuff, except....
I've been playing D&D for about 20 years now.I stopped playing in 1996, then a couple of years ago I reunited with a few of my old gaming buddies, who introduced me to version 3.5.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book got me interested in D&D again
I have not had much D&D experience. I only played the game a few times with friends when I was a kid. Now as an adult out of college I am revisiting my childhood games.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for D&D players
I have only recently started to play D&D and I have found that having a copy of the Player's Handbook has made playing much easier. This book provides most of the information that is essential for players to start out with.Information covered includes the basic races of D&D, classes, skills, feats, equipment (non magical), combat information, adventuring, magic, and spells.

5-0 out of 5 stars 3.5 or 3.0? That is the question.
If you have never played D&D this is the edition you want to pick up. It has all the basic information you need to play or run a Dungeons and Dragons campaign/adventure. Of course more books won't hurt either, but this book is all you need. I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons for about 16 years. I've played first, second, and 3.0 editions. 3.5 is by far the best edition to date. This edition is really easy for a new gamer to pick up and play. This edition is also complex enough to peak the constant-gamer's intrest. The difrence between 3.0 and 3.5 is not that big, but what difrences there are are good changes to a great edition. I will say that by the time you read this review Wizards of the Coast will most likely have a new edition out, and we''ll all have to go upgrade again. Until that happens though 3.5 is the best and most recent edition to date. All of the new material that comes out from WOTC is 3.5 so you might as well join in the fun of discovering the difrences between 3.0 and 3.5. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Oh. My. God.
Calling this dragon incredible just doesn't do it justice. The CRD is a beautiful master piece of work. Calling this thing a "mini" is just silly. I would recommend this sculpture to anyone who likes dragons.
5-0 out of 5 stars Colossal Red Dragon is Magnificent
The Colossal Red Dragon is nothing short of magnificent. The translucent red wings drape over the sides of the 6" x 6" colossal base. The dragon stands poised and ready to breathe well-sculpted resin flames down upon its miniscule prey.It stands over 13" tall from top of base to top of head spikes.
5-0 out of 5 stars Colossal Red Dragon - D&D icons
Simply put: WOW! This is one of the best figures I have ever seen. It's huge with a lot of detail. The flames could be better designed but that is my only negative and a small one at that. Amazon had the cheapest price I have seen for this figure. It is nothing less than amazing, even if you don't play the game! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best minis set yet
This is the best set the miniatures team has come out with to date.If you like dragons, and most people do, then it is a great buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars The perfect follow-up to GoL
Giants of Legend (GoL) was the previous "huge" expansion, and it's clear that Wizards learned from their previous run. This set has an excellent balance of huge and regular minis with some amazing sculpture and surprisingly good paint in most cases. The translucent minis are especially breathtaking, and I leave the huge and small fire elementals in the middle of my table while gaming, just for effect.
4-0 out of 5 stars Renewed Vigor for DDM
I'm very impressed with this newest set of miniaturs from WotC.If you're a person that's picked up previous sets, you might have been put off (as I was) at the quality of the last set. These pieces have washed that horrible taste from my mouth, and helped me rediscover my love of this product line.

4-0 out of 5 stars One Sexy Book...
I highly enjoyed the content of this book.I wanted at least 2 base classes, but the Dragonfire Adept will do for me.This class is like the Dragon Shaman and a Warlock put together.Poor BAB, 2 good saves, d6 HD, 4+on skills...it is very solid, and very good (if you include the other abilites). The book contains new player options so anyone can enjoy the abilites of the dragons. It also contains the standard bonuses too (new spells, innvocations, ETC).One of things I liked most about the book is the new feats. The book redid the Heritage feats for the 3rd time, and made me wanting to play a Sorceror again. The best part of the book is that is has content for ALMOST all other accessory books (Incarnum, Complete Series, Psionics, etc)Though this book is not as good as the Tome of Battles: Book of the Nine Swords, it is still a must buy for all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sell Your "Races of the Dragon" and Pick This One Up
If you're running a dragon-based campaign, the Draconomicon was an ideal book for the DM.Then along came Races of the Dragon, which gave Kobold-lovers something to work with, but offered little else interesting to the casual player.Dragon Magic makes up for what RotD failed to bring to the table. As with many new books released, this one doesn't require other sourcebooks, but certainly makes use of them.It is expected from a dragon-related book, but as a warning, this book is very Sorcerer-intensive.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's fluff, yes, but that's the point.
The PHB2 is mostly "fluff."This means that there is more focus on the role playing aspect of RPG's, not the mechanics of the game. Many folks are quite upset about this.I think that's silly. Many veteran gamers will remember the "Complete" books for all the races and classes in the days of yore (or, to be more precise, 2nd Edition). Those books all had tons of fluff and very little fluff, but few complain about it.Anyway, this book is essentially made to help develope your character's personality, not his stats. This is a great idea, in my opinion. There are a few additional classes, and the Beguiler (mage/thief) and Knight (tank) are sure to be favorites at many a gaming table.Think is basically the DMG2 for the player- the first helps DM's run a better game, and the PHB2 helps players play better in that game. Not every 3.5 book needs to have tons of new feats, spells, and prestigue classes. This is a fine example of a book that has tons to offer without adding more crunch (mechanics) than truly necessary.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
This is one of the few books to come out as of late that I have genuinely liked. The classes, while a bit odd, such as the dragon shaman, seem well balanced when comepared to the likes of the monk or paladin. The feats are the real meat and potatoes for me. They have things that my friends and I have been debating about for years, such as why one can simple hold a long spear differently and use it as a short spear and such. All in all, a good book.

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent collection of fun new core classes and options for any D&D game.
Player's Handbook II brings a variety of fun options for all types of characters. New classes, feats, spells, and character build options give players even more to choose from. Unfortunately, much of the material in this book will not be useful to the average D&D player. While it is an excellent choice for a person new to D&D who wants more character options, the information presented ranges from simplistic to advanced. Finally, methods for rebuilding characters were promised to be included in this book and were a marketing focus. Unfortunately, those methods amount to little more than "do what you think makes the most sense." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars D&D Spell Compendium
An excellent resource for gamers - more spells for arcane and divine casters.Note that druids, always a force to be reckoned with, are now quite formidable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I've been playing dungeons and dragons for nearly 8 years and i own a plethora of tomes regarding this subject. This is by far the best out of all of them.I give it full stars because i'm not big on specifics of where the spells were located from and which book, but more on how to make the best possible character.I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone, espically those just starting out.

3-0 out of 5 stars A let down.
I should start by saying that I believed this product was, infact, a compilation of pretty much every single spell from all the books and dragon magazines of the last few years. Thus, I bought it to use as a quick reference for ANY SPELL.Unforunately it is not. While it does update some 3.0 spells, and gives some descriptions of some of the spells in the core books, it does not, infact, present most of the core book spells again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Anime-style combat - is it right for your campaign?
I got this book at the recommendations of one of my players. While the styles are fairly well-balanced with the rest of the game, to me the main sticking point of the book is whether it really fits your campaign style or not.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Pleasant Surprise
I must admit, when I first saw the previews on Wizards I was skeptical at best. I hated the idea that none of the manuevers were available to anyone outside of the three classes, and that the book was off base, and that it would be a pain to change it around. After buying the book I've come to the realization that actually this book is pretty darn close to perfect. The classes presented are balanced, the maneuvers are awesome, the (few) monsters are excellent, and the story line to the book, while it won't be used by me in my campaign, is a good one as well.
5-0 out of 5 stars Breaths New Life into D&D Close Combat
I have to admit I was a bit skeptical about this product when I first heard about it.I generally like my games to have a lower power level, and I haven't bought many "splatbooks" in the past.Plus, over the top fighting styles usually don't excite me.However, as I read some of the promotional material my interest started to peak.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet, but i need the others
I only have this book because my Hobby shop had this, I love it, and have been making Dungeins and spells since i got it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Does a great job!
This book really lays out a good foundation for running a game of Dungeons and Dragons. While it gives you the essentials you need for runnig a game, I would also suggest that you buy the follow up, DM Guide 2.Think of this book as the epidermis, and the follow up as the muscle.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just a warning
Just a warning to all of you thinking of buying Wizards' products from Amazon -- I ordered this book thinking I'd be getting a brand new copy, but I was sent a first printing which had undoubtedly been lying around on a shelf in Amazon's warehouse for the past three years (seeing as it was first printed in 2003).

4-0 out of 5 stars Funny Face
I'm quite happy I have this guy, but he is not really worthy of 5 stars. He looks good on my shelf, he suffices for game play, but he just has a goofy face.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great macro-mini, but not for everyone
First, the obvious. This miniature - though it seems silly to call it that - looks splendid. It stands about 7 inches tall, and has a wingspan of about 9 inches (both rough estimates). The level of detail is excellent - the scalework is finely done, the horns are appropriately wicked looking, and even the plating down the back and the barbed tail looks nasty. This mini is definitely a centerpiece.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good supplement
This book is a useful supplement for DMs. The new magic item traits and the magical events and locations can really spice up an otherwise stale treasure hoard, and the specialized example NPCs are pretty cool.
2-0 out of 5 stars A bit disappointing
It took me Dungeon Master's Guide II to find out that I had bought too many D&D books already. I am used to flipping through a D&D book and sorting things that I like and might be useful from things that are a waste of space. I didn't find anything useful in this book. If you're an experienced DM, you won't either. Here's why:
3-0 out of 5 stars When it MUST BE REAL...
This book is for everyone who absolutely must fleshout every single little detail in a town. It puts the DnD world itself under a microscope. This is for advanced DM's only. Literally, unless players are going to explore a town until they find every last thing, and interview every craftsman, peasant and worker to find the exact details of their life, then you don't need this book. Go buy several published adventures. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Well Laid Out Though a Bit Thin
I have only a couple of points to make, so I will be brief.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good addition to the Monster Manual line.
Monster manual IV is a decent addition to the Monster Manual line. However, half the contents deal with the spawn and minions of Tiamat. If you are wanting a larger variety of creatures, then this is NOT the book for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good
Alot of the things said so far is over what isn't in the book. I don't see how that helps the people who are buying this, so I'll review what is in the book.

2-0 out of 5 stars hugely disappointing but essential for d&d 3.5
I was hugely disappointed with this book. While some of the new 3.5 rules features are nice, those familiar with its 2nd edition predecessor, the Monstrous Manual, will find the more aesthetic aspects of this book lacking.
5-0 out of 5 stars A review from my son, the dungeon master
It's better than any Monster Manual I have ever used, and I've used three or four different ones.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest Monster Manual Ever!
I really like this version of the Monster Manual. Primarily because the monsters, my friends, have had the major upgrade they have always needed. Any monster, from the lowly kobold to the most powerful dragon, can become more powerful. You can create a 28th level goblin rogue, a 48 hit dice ogre barbarian, an enormous 30 hit dice dire bear, etc. Any monster can be upgraded to match the skill level of your campaign. Each monster is basically a template from which you begin. Party having a little too easy of a time with the orcs? Have a squad of 10, 4th level orc fighters run out of the cave. This book tells you how to upgrade all of the monsters.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just another Monster Manual
While it doesn't score gold in my book, the MM3 is a decent monster manual. After perusing the book, you quickly get a sense that the monsters within were not drawn from mythological origins so much as niche encounter fillers. From Arcane ooze to Cadaver Collectors, I really feel that the MM line is running out of juice. While most of the creatures are solid challenges for games, they mostly feel just like that - obstacles thrown in the way of characters and not creatures with a history and sense of purpose in the game world, despite the attempts to tie them down to specific worldsets.

2-0 out of 5 stars These Monsters Are Preposterous
This book simply throws ideas out that are simply ridiculous. I think I'll be lucky to make use of more than 2 or 3 of these monsters. The only ones that are remarkable are the new giants (and seriously you'd have to plan a whole campaign to make these fit somehow). Unless you like to throw random monsters at your players (which is a lame way to DM and is even more boring than fighting the same monsters again and again) this book is just too bizzarre. I'm agonna avoid MM4 too. With this trend, the new monsters could be nothing other than preposterous.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect
I enjoyed this book greatly, but it had some flaws.First off, It didn't have information on how to turn most of these monsters into PCs.Second, In place it had said, "Cadaver Collecters in Ebberon".SOME of us don't stage our dungeons in Ebberon, Faerun, or Greyhawk!.But apart from that, this book provided detailed information on how to run the encounter, beautiful pictures, and SWEET monsters! All in all, this book rocks! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars I find this book miserable.
I know many will disagree with me, but this is simply my reaction as a player.
3-0 out of 5 stars average
the book is average containing only one interesting class and an interesting campain for arcane users but the mosters abd the spells are disapointing

4-0 out of 5 stars Those whom essentially play Arcane Casters
I first have to say that I was impressed with the book. Lately I have been finding that Wizards has been publishing some books which have been pretty moderate in quality. Secondly for the reduced price that you pay for the book on Amazon rather then buying it in the store makes it worthwhile. Though the book is filled with helpful aswell as new information, its not worth the cover price. It does offer some very unique character classes such as the Warlock and Warmage. Both very unique and useful. Lastly if you play alot of arcane catsers and are looking for something to give you a bit of an edge as well as a very decent read this book is worth it. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Overrated and sexist
I cannot fathom why anyone would want to give these books four or even five stars; and as to those who say "it is the best book I ever read", I can only assume they haven't read very much.
5-0 out of 5 stars 100% great fantasy
If you like R.A. Salvatore this book will make you like him a lot more, but, you might want to read the Icewind Dale trilogy first
