Bland is Bland
This book not only lacks clear examples and good explanations, it is the most boring textbook that I have ever read.Paul Bland is very "bland" and does not write to a math student on a clear level.He certainly does not make anyone want to learn his subject.I use the book only to do the problems recommended by my professor, and I use Joseph Gallian's "Contemporary Abstract Algebra" for my actual learning and reference. ... This book had some great examples. The examples help me to understand abstract concepts. The proofs were very well constructed.

A wonderful text.
Concise and wonderfully coherent, this book isn't filled with "fluff" such as dumb examples and spoonfed advice.Clearly targeted for a mathematically inclined class of undergraduate modernalgebra students, you will find the immense amount of knowledge and theprice of this book to be absolutely pleasing.

A very good encyclopedia of Algebra
This is the book that I read in the University for the most part of my Algebra courses, and I own it. It's a very good book that has the most important topics in Algebra (Groups, Rings, Fields, Linear Algebra over Modules) and some other topics such as Category Theory.

Winking
Concise, clear and traditionally presented main ideas in abstract algebra (if you want something more modern in algebra field I would suggest Beta Algebra by Algirdas Javtokas - this book is a bomb). Maybe you will not find here long explanations and step-by-step proofs' schemas but if I need a quick reference I look just here.

Deceptively Wonderful
OK here's the truth:This book is an awful text when accompanied by not so great prof is teaching from it (e.g. one who delivers nothing but the text). BUT... once you begin to understand enough to know that the "trivial" "exercise" and "left to the reader" proofs are quite straightforward, the book is probably the best reference in Algebra you can hope for. ... Well Written and Presented
I thought this book was really well written and presented. It has really helped with my understanding of Laplace Transforms. I would highly recommend this book to engineers who want a deeper understanding of transforms. It is worth while reading up on Residue Theory and Cauchys Theorem before reading this book. I am sure that I will constantly reference back to this book for my work.
