5-0 out of 5 stars the best
It's a very comprehensive book and the tips it gives are really great and deal with real life. The LORs and interview sections are marvellous. The author hasan indeed deep understanding of the successful application process for a residency in the U.S. What might miss from this book: maybe how can IMGs find an observership in the U.S for which he/she wouldn't have to pay, just like it is possible in Europe!
5-0 out of 5 stars The best IMG book in the market
This is THE book for IMGs. Forget first aid and others. Nobody explains the finer details, the minutae that can enhance your competitiveness better than Anagh Vora. The book is a truly outstanding read and will help the readers in the process of obtaining a US residency.
5-0 out of 5 stars It's about time!!!
I would swear and curse with joy, but I shall hold back!

Editorial Review

The theory of evolution is regarded as one of the greatest glimmeringsof understanding humans have ever had. It is an idea of science, not ofbelief, and therefore undergoes constant scrutiny and testing byargumentative evolutionary biologists. But while Darwinists may disagreeon a great many things, they all operate within a (thus far) successfulframework of thought first set down in The Origin of Species in 1859.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Gould Unplugged
This book (Gould's last) is a behemoth. With over 1400 pages, it becomes a physically taxing task to read it.This task is not lessened by the verbiage (and verbosity) that exemplify Gould's style. That being said, this book emcompasses such marvelous theoretical views and includes such a thorough history of evolutionary ideas, that it would be a shame to allow its size and density to prevent you from reading it.Gould spent his entire life pondering the big questions of evolutionary thought, and his ponderings are here revealed with significant insight into the roots of the questions themselves. It is an endeavor to read (as it was a lifetime to write), but the rewards of such an endeavor are innumerable and priceless.

5-0 out of 5 stars Omits Evolution's astounding feat of social insects
In the weeks I spent poring over this landmark volume I don't recall any explanation of the social insects which have been heavily researched by others in recent years. Societies occur among very few vertebrates and the insects, the world's champs in mimicry including behavior mimicry, a possible clue.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother diggin' for Gould, it ain't worth it.
Nope, I'm sorry, but this guy's nuts. The fossil record is exhausted within a margin of error and there are no transitional forms.Evolution is dead.Gould's solution?Make something up.You know a Juwe is making something up when he waxes philosophical.Gould's faith, thus shaken beyond repair, he makes a blind leap of faith (typical of godless heathen) by postulating "punctuated equilibrium."

5-0 out of 5 stars Keep this book by the microscope
This is the book that tells you how to actually do effective microscopy.Keep a copy by the microscope.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Introductory-Level Textbook
Dr. Murphy constructs a solid foundation on the basic concepts of geometrical optics, light, and color, and then provides excellent introductory reviews of important topics in light microscopy. The book is very well written and complex phenomena are clearly explained without the unnecessary math that often confuses students.Illustrations are numerous and help support the text very nicely, as do the suggested laboratory exercises that accompany each chapter.Discussions of digital cameras and image processing are timely and provide the essential concepts necessary to tackle more advanced treatises. In the opinion of the Molecular Expressions microscopy website team, this book is by far the best entry-level textbook in the field.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well Written and Useful
"This well written text provides a clear, uncluttered overview of the principles and practice of modern light microscopy. It contains many helpful teaching exercises and diagrams. It should prove useful in a wide range of courses from the undergraduate to the postgraduate level."Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars DANFORTH'S OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY, 8TH
This book is not like an ordinary medical textbook. It is more like an intermediate type between a medical text and a medical periodical. It gives considerable space to progresses of many medical-scientific research and the names of their authors. While on the other hand, it provides extremely concise outlines of etiology-manifestation-diagnosis-treatment for many common diseases, sometimes even skip certain important topics. As far as I am aware of , the following common topics are not or barely mentioned by this book:physiological changes of pregnant women; rubella infection during pregnancy;breast feeding of mothers with mastitis; the route and rate of mother-child transmission of HIV; the differential diagnosis ofruptured ectopic pregnancy; contraindications of the use of IUD;forceps use in labor; APGAR;There are also quite a few mistakes in the rear index.

4-0 out of 5 stars THE "PEOPLE TRAIL" MADE EASY
This is a great book.King has written a comprehensive guide to finding information on anyone, especially if they are to play an essential role in your life -- doctor, attorney, lover, etc.I am particularly impressed with his chapter Checking Out Your Date, Lover or Spouse, which should be SOP for women today; and his chapter Checking Out Your Physician -- something most of us have not known how to do before now. These areas are vital to a woman's health and safety, and King supplies the means of knowing exactly who you are dealing with by presenting step-by-step techniques for investigating a person's backround and history.I think, in this day and age, everyone should have a copy of GET THE FACTS ON ANYONE.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fungal ID
It is a well written, and illustrated book for the idenfication of fungi, however, the inclusion of plates for appearance on media and more direct photos would improve the publication (and no doubt increase the cost) otherwise it is a good book for the identication of fungi in the laboratory that processes some fungi, as an offshoot to the microbiology department, a mycology department would include this in its library but would include other texts, and resources. In summary good at uni good on the bench, but would need suplementation in a pure mycology department.

3-0 out of 5 stars Its a good book for fungi identification
I have had very satisfactory experiences in the use of this book as a guide for the identification of Food Fungi, even though outside written forFungi of Medical Importance. It displays a very particular approach thatmakes extremely didactic, mainly for the novices in the subject or thatthey do not make fungi identification of routine. It presents first aclassification of the fungi based on the color of the colony and thecharacteristic formation of conidias of the fungi genera. In one secondpart of the book it makes a more detailed description of each one of theconsidered generas. And finally it makes an review of the main medias usedin the isolation and identification of fungi. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An exellent and a must read book
I participitated in the match last year and got 7 interviews(attended 6), but unfortunately didn't match due to lack of experience and inadequate preparation. When I read "The Residency match", noticed, the several mistakes that I made about my CV, personal statement and during my interviews were completely avoidable by following Dr Desai's recommendations. I believe he has done a wonderful job, I woud have memorized the book word by word if I had seen it before my interviews. I would rate this book 5+ Stars with no doubt.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waist of money
There is a reason this book is cheap. It is not the size (although it is tiny and thin). This is bok is basically a very basic checklist for preparing for MATCH. There is nothing about HOW to avoid the misytakes etc. It is just a marketing gimmic.

4-0 out of 5 stars It is not that bad
This is my first semester organic chemistry course. Even though I have been using another book for laboratory "Organic Chemistry Lab [...] by Charles E., Jr. Bell", this book helped me to understand the concepts better (many times the instructor quized us on the reasoning behind an experiment which Bell does not mention). 1-0 out of 5 stars A very bad book
This is one of the worst textbooks I have ever used. Luckily, we only used to for one week...I couldn't imagine having to use it for any longer than that. Unfortunately there isn't an option for zero stars.

1-0 out of 5 stars The worst book I have EVER had.
I have had some terrible professors, but I have NEVER had a book that was as insufficient and wholly undeveloped in its topic.Mayo et al. may know what they are doing in the laboratory, but they must know NOTHING of writing books to convey knowledge.Someone told me that this is the most widely used book for organic chemistry labs.If that is true, I hate to see the sad state of science in a few years when we start to see all the chemists it produces.Because of the overwhelming difficulty of the problems in this book, students are forced to concentrate on specific answers to the questions that are asked and not on the concepts overall. The result: for all the complexity and effort involved, the student learns NOTHING.The second half of the book outright states (in the intro to Chapter 7) that "the mechanisms ... are more involved and not generally developed at the introductory level."I am an undergraduate student whose second semester of organic chemistry lab far outstrips the two- semester academic textbook. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Review
I believe this e-book is a very helpful review. Not only does it give questions and answers, but it also gives rationale with references. I give it 4 stars. The only downfalls are that you cannot print the chapters/pages, and that the answers do not include the question...so if you don't remember the question, then you have to go back to look it up. Overall, it is a very good study guide and I would recommend it!

2-0 out of 5 stars TOO BASIC
This book was much too basic for my review purposes. Also, the questions in this book do not resemble the questions on the NREMT-P test.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great questions, bad software
I agree with other reviewers, the questions are very nice, good explanations and fair difficulty level. The software makes you repeat questions lots of times, you can't review the ones you got right on test mode, so if you were lucky with your answer, you will never know why.My software also failed a couple of times making me quit in the middle of test review.

5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC BOOK
I did fabulous on Step I- yet I was a mediocre student in the first two years. Here's why.During the first two years, I tried to read a lot of textbooks and not those silly notes handed out by the instructors...because they were poorly presented and often contained weak, 1:1 relationships.Reading textbooks really exposed me to a lot of highly varied material, and consequently, I was exposed to more knowledge than the other students. But when Step I came around, I decided not to do the Kaplan thing: I mean, this isn't "occult" knowledge, is it?No, so I relied on this and the other review books in this "white book" series...Fantastic results!!!And for pictures, pay *close*attention* to the pictures in First Aid. Best success to you all!

2-0 out of 5 stars What a waste of money...Do not buy!!!!!
First of all let me just say that the question you get on the book are repeated to you on the cd-rom, so for those of you thinking, like I did, that you're getting a total of 1400 questions, YOU'RE NOT. Second of all, the cd-rom doesn't have a save option so you'll be repeting questions each time you use it and you'll never do them all because of that. Third, the questions are either way to easy or impresively hard to find in your regular study reviews. And finally,to DAVE BROWN in Tempe AZ, the guy who wrote the first review on this book here: next time try and check everything about a item (book in this case) before you give it 5 stars, cause most people read these reviews and follow advise, and in this case yours sucked big time. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners
The back of this book says simple enough for beginners, but IT IS NOT!I think if you have been over physics before this book "could" be helpful, but not for someone seeing this stuff for the first time. The refresher part only states some facts about pre-physics material, but doesn't explain why it is stated. The tests after each chapter ask about material outside the book that is not even covered.I will be taking this book back for a refund and getting the "for dummies" version.

1-0 out of 5 stars Knowledgable author, horrible teacher
I have already studied physics, so I was able to follow this, but there is not a chance of understanding this without the previous knowledge. This is the kind of teaching strategy that is mostly memorizing and rote learning. You can "learn" what the book says, but you won't have a clue what it means. If you are only interested in spouting off physics facts to sound impressive, this book will do just fine.If you want to even begin to understand physics, you'll need to find a book that goes into the how and why of every phenomenon, rather than just stating that the phenomena exist.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dymystifies Physics without Calculus
This book uses intermediate to advanced algebra and some (very little) pre - calculus to explain physics. It's great how they break it down so much - they start with the "what is a linear function" lesson, and go over real and complex numbers and graphing in case you forgot. Don't let the thinkness fool you - the first 7 chapters are spent getting you up to speed with the math that they use for the rest of the text. The way they explain the math is SO easy. However, if you are looking for a study guide with CALCULUS based explainations, this is not the book you need. Easy read, worth the money. ... Read more
