A good book, but you may need outside help or supplementaion
I've just completed this book as part of a correspondence course. I found most of the explanations clear and to the point, but there were places in which the author lost me completely. Much of the theory, which should haveclarified the topics under discussion, only gave me more reason to ask,"Why?" The solutions provided in the back of the book onlycovered the odd-numbered exercises, and there were absolutely noexplanations. Techniques of solving problems is the very foundation of thecourse. I'd like to see more of this included in future editions.

Is a great book if you want to learn the "fundamentals"

Logical and/but Expensive
This book costs way too much. It is a scam; because this book is required for College Algebra courses they can pretty much charge whatever they would like. I love math, don't get me wrong. But I don't have the money for acollege education and I wanted to teach myself Algebra and this was ahighly recommended book. Unfortunately, I simply cannot afford it. I could write a better algebra book!
I bought this because I've never been great at math, and wanted to refresh myself before I go back to school.It's the WORST book I've ever bought! The answers in the back don't match the questions you're supposed to be answering!What's up with that!?How are you supposed to know if you are doing this right if they give you wrong answers??

Finally,I Understand Algebra!
Algebra has never come easy.I do not think it is meant to be so.After using the above textbook in at a community college Elementary Algebra class I now have a clearer understanding of algebraic functions.The textbook at first appears to have excessive practice problems, but these worked out for my benefit as I worked every single one of them.Remember, "practice makes perfect" and the more you practice at this level the better it will be for you in future algebra courses.Read more

IntroductoryAlgebra for College Students
We ordered the Third Edition and received the Second Edition. I would like to return this book for the Third Edition of Introductory Algebra for College Students.

Would give it a ten if I could
I have to confess to a certain degree of academic snobbery when it comes to books on science and math.That is, I tend to look for books produced by PhDs in a specific field who teach at prestigious universities or for collaborations of them.I do, however,pride myself on giving credit where credit is due, and this volume is certainly an example.According to the text's introduction Robert Blitzer, the author of Introductory Algebra for College Students, has a BA in math and psychology with a minor in English literature, an MA in math, and a doctorate in behavioral sciences and teaches in a local community college in Florida.That's quite an eclectic vita.In this case it is an ideal vita, that of a teacher dedicated to student comprehension of his subject.Read more

This book saved my life
I studied this book, and it was fantastic!When I picked this book up, it had been awhile since I'd taken a math class.I was going back to college, and I didn't want to have to take Algebra all over again, so I reviewed Algebra extensively, using this book.When I took Precalculus classes, I encountered subject matter from time to time that I hadn't seen for quite awhile.Often, my recollection of such material was shaky, so I'd review it in this book again, and get back up to speed.I got an A in both classes. ... Forgotten Algebra
I concur with the last review.I purchased the book b/c I plan to take the GMAT this summer and I wanted a supplement to my Kaplan review material.The book is very clear with good definitions and explanation without being redundant.Very good review of the subject.
