Finite Mathematics for Business Economics, Life Sciences and Social Sciences (10th Edition)
They sent me the wrong book. I ordered theFinite Mathematics for Business Economics, Life Sciences and Social Sciences (10th Edition)by Raymond A. Barnett and received the solution manual. I feel very disapointed with this purchase.
NOT USER FRIENDLY!
I am using this textbook for my Math for Business and Economics class and it is terrible.This book is not written taking into consideration the audience "Business Majors". Concepts are better explained in the Chapter review than under the sections they are being presented.There is only 1 example for each new concept and definitions are written using one or two definitions of new concepts within it.If this book is intended to take the student from the abstract concept to the real world it sure doesn't do this.I understood the material better in my Intermediate Algebra class than I do now.

Sound choice for a finite math textbook
This is a very sound choice as a textbook for a course in finite mathematics. The coverage is appropriate, the level suitable for the non-math major, the explanations are excellent and the authors take the title seriously. Read more

Better than the one I use, but not by enough to change
I recently evaluated this book as a possible textbook for the finite mathematics class that I teach. A great deal of space is devoted to the use of technology using a TI-83 graphing calculator and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. Images of the calculator and computer screens are used to demonstrate the solutions. While I don't use either technology in my class, the presence of the technology solutions had no affect on my opinion of the book.
Great Choice
I was very satisfied with my results and the sender got my book sent to me extremely quick.

Wow.This book is bad.I have to use this book -- chosen by the department -- for a class I'm teaching.The fact that the book is a bad choice for this class is not the fault of the book -- I was given the text with instructions to teach chapters 1 - 4, 10, and 11, and then to use extra material for topics not covered in the book -- clearly, this text does not fit the class, and either the course should be redesigned, or a different text should be chosen.

I love this book!
I can't imagine my learning process of FEA without this book.It's really good and comprenhensive.It is nice to read and it provides clear explanations to difficult topics.I believe this is a must have!

Fantastic intro to FEA
This book provides a great intro to FEA in general befor eit actually starts ANSYS Tutorial. The book is strictly for beginners .It contains very less details on Batch files ,nonlinear problems etc.

Good intro, but does not go far enough
I bought this book hoping it would make my job of developing a finiteelement model using ANSYS easier. But I did not learnmuch of anything newfrom this book. I was already familiarwith finite element theory and alsotook the intro to ansyscourse offered by ANSYS. I had hoped that thisbook would gobeyond what was offered by these two sources, but sadly itdoes not. Good Elementary Book
It is a good primer book for the newby in Finite Element Analysis. It has good and clear simple examples

Schaum's on FEA Needs to be Updated
Schaum's Outline on Finite Element Analysis was a valuable and important source at the time it was first published in 1995.However, in the intervening 11 years, this field has advanced rapidly, and the material in Professor Buchanan's otherwise excellent outline is now seriously dated.
Don't waste your money with other books
Don't waste your money buying those hardcover books on Finite Element Method. If you wanna learn this subject soon this is the right book. Beside it you should study the book "An Introduction to Finite Element Method" by J. N. Reddy. ... Read more

A collection of papers at best
I am a graduate student of solid mechanics and I have read quite a few books on FEA. Of all the textbooks I have read-this is clearly the worst. The authors don't spend any time to make the material coherent and organized. They seem to have published this book just for the sake of establishing their names in the field. It is basically a collection of research papers on the subject. The worst part of the book is that the authors use excessive verbiage to describe extremely inportant concepts with little or no mathematics. This leaves the readers confused and disoriented. This book is not for those looking for an introductory text and is useless to even those experienced in the field. Avoid this book.

Not an undergraduate text....
This book was used to 'introduce' us to finite element analysis.To say the least, the book is very had to follow.For an undergraduate text book, I don't recommend it at all.The problems are very difficult and assume you have a lot of knowledge on other subjects.Also there are close to no examples.This would be a great book for graduate classes or those seriously interested in the theory, but not for the intro introductory class, unless you have a super great professor.Because of my bad experience with the book, and how I found it difficult to grasp, I give it only three stars.

Typical Serre, concise, clean, clear.
This is a an excellent introduction to the subject.The book really breaks into 3 distinct parts.The first 5 chapters are a rapid introduction to the basics, similar to what one would get from any indroductory text.They are most notable for actually going through the details on D_n, S_n cyclic groups... The second section (chapters 6-13) gives a more graduate level presentation of the material.Starting with a discussion of group algebras, moving onto inducted representations Artin's theorem (the existence of virtual characters) The third section is Brauer Theory. The book is by Serre so it goes without saying it one of the best if not the best book on the market.His failure to deal with the additional complexities of the infinite group case (which he indicates in the title) is a small problem.He could have spent at least 1 chapter addressing how the results of the book could be extended.The index of notation is a fantastic asset for a subject where notation plays such a large role. ... Great condition
This book was only used for one semester.It is in great condition looks brand new.I bought it brand new and kept it in the same condition.

I recommend this book
I took an online class over the summer and used this book. Eventhough the teacher was not helpful, the book was. All the exercises were extremely helpful and the text was simple and easy to read. I would recommend this book for any who has to take this class.

It passes the test for adoption consideration
As a reviewer and educator, I encounter many textbooks that can be used in the lower level classes such as basic statistics, algebra, precalculus and finite mathematics. Since the material to be covered in these classes has been established by consensus, it is a rare occasion when there is a significant difference in coverage. In addition, there is a natural order to many of the topics, so the differences in sequence also tend to be minimal. All of this leads to a routine sameness of the books, especially when examined by someone experienced in the topic.

An all time classic
From the masters of the finite element method, this may well be the best book ever written on the subject. In this book, the authors come across as the sages of ancient India preaching what they know is the best, guiding us, and setting a stage of research for the years to come. This is a monumental piece of work in the history of engineering.

The milestone in FE analysis
This book is really THE milestone, the only one I really enjoy. A page-turner, a must for all people into FE stuff.

Excellent book for starters in the field
This is the ideal book for beginners in finite elements, though the approach is slightly more theoretical. If you have a good background in linear algebra and are comfortable with matrices etc, you should have notrouble finishing this one. A comprehensive, excellent introduction to FEM
I was advised to use "Concepts and Applications of Finite Element Analysis, 4th Edition" by Robert D. Cook, David S. Malkus, Michael E. Plesha, Robert J. Witt as my text and reference during my graduate course in FEM. However, using the book left me with millions of unanswered questions-some very fundamental in nature. If you are a student who wants to understand the physical interpretations of the principles of the Finite Element Method beyond the mere mathematical manipulations, this book is for you. This is the most comprehensive text book on this subject. It is also very well written and can be assimilated with some effort. I can't recommend this book enough.

a very good book
I learnt FE from this book. It is clear, coincise, full of well-worked examples. It covers almost all of the aspectes of FE programming. The book contains two educational codes, thought both are FORTRAN77 code, one can easily understand what's going on, so as to rewrite it in C or, say, FORTRAN90. It is one of my best list.
Just completing his second and third chapter in FE formulation, you cannot deny Dr.Reddy's ingenius in FE. His solid background in Variational Calculus will enlight you the real nature of Finite Element approximation and bring you understand how can fomulate FE statement from BVP. Don't be bored in his mathematical written styles, because you could not understand FE in other ways.Absolutely, this book is one in my best list of FE textbook. Take your time
I bought the book for a class I'm taking and it's proving a bit difficult to read, the text is small compared to most books, I'm assuming to save paper. The flow of the text seems to be a bit jumpy, as I read I have to refer to pictures and graphs which aren't on the same page, which makes keeping track of ideas a bit difficult when you're constantly flipping pages to find the correlating graph. Another item is that unless you know a little about the subject, then realizing key points is difficult, because they're not easily referenced. I suggest Bold typing or using the side margins to emphasize key points would help the introductory reader. So, as an introductory text the book is hard to read because the book is written more for the seasoned professional who is looking to brush up on some finite analysis techniques.

really good math book
I don't know why someone said this book is full of mistakes. I really studied through the whole book and couldn't find a single mistake. I am an international student from germany and so english is my second language. This book explains problems step by step and has a lot of exercises with anser keys in the back for all odd problems as well as a review test for each single chapter. I also really like this book, since my math instructor doesn't know how to explain things, so I had to read this book in and out. It is good for self study.

Not a book to use for an On-line class
This is not a book to use for on-line classes.Does not read well and does not show step by step instructions that are easy to follow.I aced my last 2 math classes, but am having difficulty in this one.Not because of the material, but because the way the book reads.

Infinite Mistakes

Nothing to differentitate it from the other finite textbooks
I am always trolling for a new and better textbook for my finite mathematics class. In my search, I have found a repetitive sameness to the books that are available. The only constant and real differentiating factors to the books are the order of the material and the quality of the writing.Occasionally, a book will cover a topic that the others don't, but often when that is done; it is a liability rather than an asset.
