Interesting Book, Available Online
Interested readers should be made aware that if a person does a net search for "Herbert Wilf's Home Page", and then goes to that site, the author has this book (and a number of other things)available for FREE downloading.That might be a great way to preview the book, even if you later decide to spend the money to get a nicely bound traditional copy here.
A good introduction
A wonderful book; sometimes it isn't so much formal as requested for a mathematical exposition of the subject. It does not contain so much about analytic combinatorics (study of G.F. according to complex analysis), and hypergeometric functions. But it remains a good book for everyone who never saw something about this subject. It presents to the reader a great variety of manipulating techniques for combinatorial sequences (and not only); I think it is a must-have (also must-read) for everyone who wants to start working in combinatorics; you must read it at least two times to master all the techniques.
Best Math Book on the Planet

Excellent Text, all around
I learned pre-calculus from this textbook, and now I've been with a youth math program that uses the book for 3 years. This pre-calc book is excellent and is the first book that was of actual use to myself when learning new material.

This book not only includes the state-of-art image processig techniques using math methods, but also provides very good numerical schemes for these methods. May Be The Best Math Functions Book Around The World
(First of all, excuse my english, is not my mother lenguage)
Abramowitz and Stegun - a required tool box item for the math techie
If you work in mathematics, physics, engineering or economics, this reference work should be in your tool box. It is simply invaluable if you go anywhere near special functions, or would like to have a reference for standard trig, exponential, logrithmic definitions and extensions. It's still the classic.

Needs a CD version
It has been 40 years since Dover released this book. Its virtue has long been the extensive tables of somewhat obscure functions, like the hypergeometrics. In its time, many scientists, especially physicists, have used it as a well deserved standard reference. But times change. Nowadays it would be far more useful to readers if the tables were accessible in the form of a CD or DVD.

Besides having the capability to produce the most popular "chaos" pictures discovered, this should read program accompanied by book. The more sophisticated the readers knowledge of non-lineardynamics, the more powerful this program becomes. This does not mean thereader needs to know C++ to work it (thank the fractal gods). This set upis a must for beginners in non-linear systems. The learning curve is about2 hrs. and is easier than most window based applications. While most of thecomputations and graphs can be done in Mathcad (Matlab etc.), some of thespecial application functions would be very time comsuming. The bestfeature for this reader was the "add your own functions fortesting" which has a significant file of reader's previous work to beanalysed. excellent text
This is an ideal introduction for mathematicians and applied scientists.Written in an easy to understand style and full of good relevant examples.I guess only the more mathematical will be able to digest the last chapter.

This textbook tries to strike a balance between the "toolkit" (how to use it) approach (supposedly) desired by engineers and the more rigorous mathematician's development. Speaking as an engineer, I found itnot as intuitive as I had hoped (I'm more mathematically-oriented than mostengineers) However, the book is clearly written and develops the argumentsin small steps. still one of the best
After 30 years of its first publications, this book remains one of the best. It treats all the elements of a graduate course in analysis thoroughly. One of the few books that actually goes through construction of the real number system (in Chapter 1) and products of infinitely many measure spaces (in Chapter 6). There is plenty material to choose from, and all the standard topics are covered. In a very few cases notation is a bit cumbersome (or obsolete), but this is no big problem. Highly recommended to all graduate students in mathematics.

Excellent real analysis reference
In many applications today, such as PDE or harmonic analysis, it is crucial to have a really good grasp of the Lebesgue integral and absolutely continuous (rather than continuously differentiable) functions. Many real analysis books shy away from these matters. One of the best references on the subject
This is the kind of book I appreciate the most: one that's always got the information you need. This meticulous text covers thoroughly just every topic from elementary set theory up to product measures. It developscarefully all topics that should be included in standard analysis lectures(set theory, topology, Lebesgue integral, Banach and Hilbert spaces,differentiation, product measures) at such level of abstraction that thebook turns out to be suitable for introductory courses, advanced courses,and later reference. The only one shortcoming I see is that the bookincludes no bibliography.Read more

TI must have cut Mr. Hornsby a big check
I'm taking a precalc class that uses this text as a refresher before beginning an undergraduate degree in Physics. In the early 90' I'd taken Algebra, Statistics, Precalc, and even a few Calculus classes (over 10 math classes in all). Out of all the math texts I've used, this is by far the worst. The examples are so poorly explained, I ALWAYS end up having to refer to one of my old texts. The book was written to be used with TI calculators, only problem is, no key stokes on how to perform a particular operation are included. Normally this should be the realm of your trusty owners manual, but if a math text is geared for a particular brand of calculator and the faculty at your college are forcing that brand of calculator down the students throats, then the book should offer some instruction on the calculator. I'm actually thinking about finishing my math at another college that does NOT use this text. If you're just looking for a reference book for precalc, look elsewhere. ... Read more
