Near Perfect
This book is excellent. The material is presented clearly and concisely. It makes the subject matter accessible and interesting. I used it as the text for a one-semester graduate subject. I completed all of the exercises, so it is well-paced for this kind of study. I started with only an introductory knowledge of group theory, so it is self-contained. The only drawback is that there are no solutions to any of the exercises. If it had this, it would be a perfect bok.

Good introduction for representation theory.
This book has 4 chapters.Chapter1 is about general theory of representations of finite group.Chapter2 is about representation of symmetric groups.chapter3 and 4 are about combinatorial topics and symmetric functions. Though I haven't read all of the book,I highlyrecommand this book because this book shows us introductive part ofrepresentation theory with easy words.I think it is worth to read for allwho are to begin the study of representation theory.

A Nice Introduction to Representation Theory

Representations and characters of finite groups are a classical subject, with substantial developments well underway a century ago.As a result there has been gradual refinement and polishing of the field. The beauty of this subject is shown well in this book.The style is clear and order of exposition excellent.Moreover, the authors write with great patience, both in respect to presenting calculations in detail and in providing the steps to proofs.This is not to say the book is easy, but rather that the distance from step to step is very well suited for advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students. The book is highly mathematical in its outlook, except for the final chapter, which deals with normal modes of vibration of a molecule.There are some real gems.In a certain finite group, is it possible to find an element of order two and one of order four whose product has order three?The answer may be found in the chapter, "An Application to Group Theory."The presentation of the Frobenius Reciprocity Theorem is a exceptional delight.As for prerequisites, a good grounding in general group theory at an undergraduate level and a reasonably good acquaintance with rings and modules should suffice. ... The only group theory book for the advanced reader.
This book is, I suppose, the most authoritative and comprehensive text on group theory. Text is quite succinct and self-contained, proofs are elegant and rigorous. Only few sections of the first chapter cover undergraduategroup theory. Therefore I do not recommend it for the one that would preferan introductory text rather than a serious reference text. It is also astrong self study text, the example questions are well-chosen and generallydemanding. Though its name begins with `A Course...', I think it containsenough material for more than 3 courses, a semester each.It is definitelyworth its value, a must for a mathematician's library. ... "Undergraduate" in the best way
The material in this book is not usually considered "undergraduate": Noether normalization, spectra of rings, discrete valuation rings, and more. But this book makes them very clear. It is more geometrical, and has more motivation, than Atiyah and MacDonald INTRODUCTION TO COMMUTATIVE ALGEBRA. It is briefer and more surveyable than Eisenbud COMMUTATIVE ALGEBRA. If you go on in the subject you will certainly need Eisenbud's book. This is a very good starter, and a good companion to Eisenbud if you are learning the material on your own. ... Read more
