This book is a part of a 3 Volume Reference to Lie Group Analysis. Especially helpful in the applied sciences and engineering for theoretically oriented research on differential equations. This book is intended as a short concise overview of the theory of complex semisimple Lie algebras. Inspite of its small volume, this text is far from being of easy lecture, since it assumes the knowledge of some basic facts concerning Lie algebras, as well as associative algebras. Indeed the first chapters are a r�sum�, without proofs, of some basic theorems of Lie algebras. Recreational but no-nonsense.
An off-hand account of algebra by one of the best authorities of thesubject. Recommended as a "serious" pass-time.

Modern Mathematics from the viewpoint of Algebra.
The author explains not just the definitions but also the 'philosophy' of algebra with highly non- trivial examples from geometry,analysis & topology not to mention algebra itself. Examples motivate the concepts and show their usefulness. There islittle number of formal proofs, but theorems areusually supported by natural 'explanations' whichmay be even more adequate. Frequently a single example in this book can replace a substantial theory of the corresponding subject. For example, about axioms of projective geometry. A reader with no knowledge of modern algebra cantry reading it ,but it would be more interestingif familiar with subjects of undergraduate mathe matics. Then an undergraduate reader will get some ideas how modern math uses sophiscated tools from algebra to understand other subjects. oh my gosh
Have you ever started to read a book, only to finally look up from it and realize that you have missed two meals?This is what happened to me when I opened up Weiss's book.It is a masterwork, so drenched in intellectual heft that I swear I saw some dripping off the paper.Humanity has rarely produced a more gripping 160 pages, and I only wish there were more.His next instant classic cannot come too soon.

At long last - proof of Theorem 4.1.2!
I knew it would happen- but never expected to read such a clear and concise proof.Weiss does not skimp on the reasoning.A thorough and excellent approach to this topic.
