Just get it if It's required....
It's the same as Dugopolski's book, except since I got Dugopolski's teacher edition, it helped a little bit more to understand the material.

Not in good condition
This book wasadvertised as in good condition, I picked it up and the cover almost completly tore off! Thats not exactly good! I bought another book that was labeled as good condition and it was ten times better then this math book.

Very Helpful Book
This book is very helpful because when someone helps me in Algebra 2, they can read me the problem out of book then I can work it out and they can tell me whether my answer is right or not or else it would take a much longer period of time because they would have to work out the problem and then tell me the answer and it may be wrong. Book needs more explanations and less fluff
Book needs more explanations on problems and less "Study habit reminders" and other fluffy stuff that I just skip over. What student has time to read the "extra optional stuff"?
Sometimes complex
This book covers many problems but lacks descriptive solutions. I could not get a good concept of how to solve the problems because most of the solutions were broken into several sections. This book does give some of the answers but again it does lack descriptive solutions.

I can't wait to get this book!
In my pre-algebra I and II classes, we used Martin-Gay's books.They were wonderful!They're easy to understand and follow with plenty of exercises.I was looking forward to using her books for Intermediate Algebra.I was extremely disappointed to find that the college switched to a different book...one that isn't helpful at all.I'm planning on using Martin-Gay's book along side our college textbook we now have.Hopefully, the lightbulb will be going on much quicker! ... Algebra 1 or Calculators for the Stupid?
This book pretends to be an Algebra 1 textbook, but is more of a calculator instruction manual. A child who completes a course based upon this book will be highly proficient in the use of his or her calculator, but will not have gained an iota of mathmatical skill or knowledge. If you are considering this book, I suggest you pull the instruction book from the box your calculator came in, it is just as useful and not near as heavy.On the upside, the book has lots of pretty colors.

Perfect Reminder
I took Algebra in college after taking classes like Calculus 3 and Probability and Statistics. It may seem strange, but it was one the smartest things I ever did. Out of high school it seems like there are a lot of rules involved with algebra, but after reviewing those rules with this book, I realized that there were only a few rules that are responsible for all the intricacies of algebra. Having this new grasp on algebra really made classes like Modern Algebra and many computer books seem very intuitive. I no longer struggling figuring out how to simplify, factor or deal with irrationals. I also have a great reference whenever I forget how to deal with inequalities or anything else for that matter. This book is great for someone trying to remaster algebra again of just as a course textbook. Be careful not to buy the extra workbook that comes with this - it isn't really that useful, as the book provides amples of exercises and solutions. If you think you are too "good" to relearn some algebra, I guaruntee that recovering the basics will improve your abilities to do math 10 fold - it worked for me!

Excellent book for self study
I returned to college after 15 years.Before taking the math placement tests, I studied Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 - I placed into precalculus and received an A in this class.I credit the books for giving me theseresults - prior to this I was a poor math student.I have just finishedcalculus (1st class) with an A.I really recommend both of these books. They helped me enormously - and I have regained confidence in my mathabilities.

As a seventh grader who took algebra 2, I can say Iknow math. This textbook is a wonderful apporach and gives real life applications for seemingly useless algebra. Great book! If interested in algebra, buy it!

good self-study book
first off, i'm not rebecca stack, but we use the same account. i am self-studying at home using this book. addison wesley were completely and utterly unhelpful when i asked for assistance when i first purchased the book and solutions manual. as for the book itself, i'm very happy with my purchase, although if you have no normal class/teacher resources, i would say it's essential to buy the solutions manual.
THis is a misleading title
THis text is the annotated instructors edition, which is great. (Unless of course you are trying to learn)

The workbook was not required, but I don't think you coulddo the work without it. I wish the college would get a different book. Having been a home economics major in High School 27 years ago, the last thing I needed in my struggle with college was assistance from Ms Kaseberg! This book is needlessly confusing, unorganized, and a poor showing for MsKasegerg's 30 years of experience. The chapters deal with various topics,but the exercises at the end of each chapter seem to have nothing to dowith the material covered. The book's goal of teaching problem solvingskills has failed miserably. The student is left with a different set ofproblems than were discussed in the chapter and with no clue as to where tostart in solving them. Problem solving skills may have been overlooked orminimized in mathematics education thus far, but this book does not addressthe tools needed to solve problems--it simply leaves the reader lost in analgebraic vacuum without a compass. To make matters worse, after using thisbook as a trial for Algebra II (which was a dismal failure), the Mathcommittee at my university decided to inflict equal torture on Algebra Istudents the very next semester. Publication of this book is bad enough,but it is a sad state of affairs when such a product is actually adopted asa teaching tool. I was in grammer school during the 'New Math' fiasco ofthe late 60's, and I view this approach with similar contempt. This is by far the worst Algebra text book that I have ever seen.The text is very unclear and the author seems to be very unknowledgeable in her field.There are no explanations to how she came up with the answers thatshe got and that makes me question if they are correct.There are noinstructions available, even to the instructors.This book is a waste ofnot only money, but time also and I am ashamed that the math department atTMCC in Reno actually approved it. ...
